On screen time of only 7 minutes, but 4 hours unplugged ? That basically means you haven't used the phone much at all. When I am unplugged for 4 hours, I easily have 1 hour on screen time. Lets see your battery life then ?

Agreed. Only 7 minutes on screen is nothing.

I'm using a CM9 Kang and can contest to much improved battery life. From 8am it would be dead by 9pm. Now I have like 30% at midnight.
Galaxy Nexus - 4.0.3 CM9
Asus Transformer - 3.2 Revolver

What makes you think its CM9 ROM? It could be the Franco kernel. I'm using franco kernel on AOKP and battery life is pretty amazing

I get that stock rom and kernel on a f'ing bad day.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

yeah, i'm getting on average 18 hours of battery life on just stock revolution 2.1.2.
best so far was 17 hours and i was only at 68%. and that was with about 30 minutes of phone calls and maybe an hour of screen on time.

uhh you had the screen on for 7 minutes.
Use it for a few days then come back with a normal 1 day of use.

Its not CM9 its Franco's kernel... I'm running his new 7.1 with Bugless Beast and its amazing battery life

LOL why do people post "amazing battery life" threads and it clearly shows no use. I been seeing these threads pop up, even with the extended battery someone claiming 24 hours. C-Mon guys, I love my Galaxy Nexus but lets keep it real. I'm not doubting CM9 will improve the battery life but these exaggerated battery life threads are getting annoying.

I think OP and the rest of ppl responding regarding Franco's kernel is standby battery life has significantly improved. Check out the AOS thread...some ppl were losing 3-5% per hour on standby!

Standby time?
That cannot beat my stock kernel and stock rom.
Battery down only 3% from 22:30 until 06:00 in the morning, 7 and a half hour!

3-5%/hr on an Android, even in standby, is great. That means you're getting somewhere between 20 and 33 hours of standby. That's far better than any Android phone I had in the past.

Are you kidding? 2 Gmails syncing and light usage gets me insane battery life on a standard battery.

Over two hours of screen on time and 49 hours on. I actually had to burn the last like 15% so I could get it to die as you can see in the graph. I should of actually pushed it to see how long it would last onto the 3rd day...

Not sure if serious....

wonshikee,
what are you rom/kernel are you using if any?

What about this with stock cyanogen kernel and 2hr on screen?
Kang Build 29

IMO the thing we should be concerned with getting down is battery drain while screen is on. I'm completely stock and if I hardly touch the phone (10 minutes of screen on) I can have 85% battery after 12-14 hours on 3g with Bluetooth on (no wifi and I'm on att). But if I calculate my screen on time it's about 3 hours before the phone is getting close to dying, which is pathetic. If we could use some magic kernel or something to get 6 hours of screen time, then I think that's something to be happy about. But unfortunately I don't think that's possible without a giant 3200 mah battery which Samsung probably won't ever release.

not gonna happen. you cant change how much power the screen draws. maybe from 3hr->4hr, but thats it. dont pin your hopes on that.

[Q]Who gets 16+ hours of hard core use with battery?

So who gets 16 or more hours of battery life with hard core usage?
What Rom and Kernel are you using?
Hard Core I mean having 4g on all the time. Surfing Know and then. Playing Games. Having sync on all the time and more.
Me! I am running stock with bullet 2.7b kernel. It wasn't like this in the beginning. Took a while (about a week) of keeping this rom and kernel combination before I can now get 20 hours with pretty heavy use. And even this is at school where I barely have signal. Last time I had this battery was on ip4

Whoever gets 20hrs+ isint using their phone with heavy usage. Mines usually last 12-14 hours with abut 5 hours on screen time on 4G. ****...I can leave my phone at home and not touch it and I can get like 30 hours. The point is 20 hours is BS if your on your phone like I usually am. I happy cause I got a extra battery or bring my charger to work. I'm on Juggernaut with stock kernel which I know definitely eats less battery than the custom kernels. The custom kernels do a great job when in deep sleep but when you are using it, it drains faster than the stock kernel.
Oh Cause Im looking for a combo that gives me 16 hours or at least an entire day with heavy usage...
Cm7 rom and kernel. overclocked with smartassv2. 19 hours. 6hours 48minutes screen on. playing games all day and texting and quite a few phone calls.

batt drain is realy fast with all custom roms. all roms are bad. not enough developers.. because they sell it only in usa..so after 10 days with my t989 today i hve sold it. im happy now waiting reduce price of nexus for buy..

"Hard Usage" is very relative. Screen on time is a much better metric assuming that you are actively doing something with the screen on and have a short screen timeout or manually turn off the screen.
Having said that I get 3-4 hrs of screen on time with Bullet 2.9 and Jug3.69 "hard usage" with 25% brightness.
Just 3-4 hours. Wow. That is bad.

I thought it was pretty good actually. That is 3-4 with the "screen on" utilizing 4G network. Total battery life is in the 15-20 hr range.
By comparison my Mytouch 4G could only barely do 3hrs and my Amaze 4G could hardly do 2-2.5 hrs. You can't really compare battery life between multiple people as their usage pattern is different. What really matters is battery life for yourself across different phones.

New original battery + Full first time calibration = 4h15 of screen time

I just bought a new battery this weekend ( original 1750mah ) and i did a first time calibration ( charging for 10h without unplugging and drain it all until my phone closes by itself). Now i have a freaking awesome battery life with mid-heavy usage. 4h15 of screen time with 50% brightness, wifi on all the time, gps, auto-sync, franco kernel #11, XDA for few hours(white background), youtube, about 250 txt messages, 30 min of talk time. I just beat a new record submit your best screen on time.
**next step : 5h of screen time ( 30% brightness, no facebook app)

If you search here, someone made an experiment. He set to airplane mode and set the screen to display all pure black with lowest brightness. That resulted with about 10 hours 40 minutes.
So, that's max screen on time with standard battery.
Here my battery life with extended 2000mAh GSM battery
Granted, I don't sync and I set to brightness at 10%. But that's enough for me. Mostly I use my phone for web browsing, fb, g+, xda, games, etc. The stats below include Sygic GPS navigation for about 20 minutes.
At 61 hours stand by with 4 hours screen on time, I am very happy

I've gotten 5.25 hours as my record. Was strictly a wifi data run. I've also got 4.75 twice, HSPA data, but your 4.25 is probably more impressive if your background is that and the other stuff mixed in. All 1750 mah. Just got my 2000 mah yesterday.

I am getting about 5 hours of on screen time with my gsm Galaxy Nexus with the 2000mah extended battery from simshop, wifi on,100% brightness always & none of my settings are focused on saving battery life. Here is a screenshot of the wallpaper I usually use, sometimes I throw a lwp on.I also for testing purposes put Netflix on at 100% battery and streamed until the battery got to 5% and ended up getting 4 hours 23 minutes with the same settings as I wrote above.I am running 4.0.1 stock deodexed rom.Stock kernel.
Maybe this will finally be the thread where everyone actually shares the relevant information like Rom & Kernel,GSM/LTE,Extended or Stock battery, Screen Brightness,Sync on/off,Wifi/Data,Static or LWP.On screen time as opposed to just how long the phone has been in idle & even possibly the technique used to calibrate the battery.

Using redemption rom with stock kernel. Yeah I have wifi on the whole time I'm home. Which is usually from 4- til I plug in. I am on the extended battery. But I don't notice much of a boost from the normal battery with it. I also have gtalk signed in all day and use that almost constantly. Although today I haven't. My phone also always stays cool. It never gets warm.
Also I have everything on normal sync. Gmail,fb,twitter. And auto brightness.

Which kernels besides franco give good battery life?
If you're getting 1.5 hours battery life then you're NOT using your phone, period. This is a smart phone, if you can manager more than 1 hour then you probably should have kept your StarTAC.
Edit: read a few more posts, wasn't troll bait it turns out.
As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, wakelocks are one avenue to explore. Install Better Battery Stats and follow the instructions/procedures, etc... from its thread here on XDA.

If you are on 3g/4g and a verizon nexus on stock battery...2 hrs screen time is normal. Get used to it. Sorry. My wife's on stock 4.0.2 does exactly that. Pathetic. We bought an extended battery. Still might get in the 4 hour range. I love the nexus but damn the battery is terrible. I get 6-7 hrs screen on time on my maxx using 3g/4g. Today she got close to 4 hrs but it was a 4g/Wi-Fi mix.
Verizon nexus on 3g gets around 2 hrs screen on time if you actually are using data and keeping everything synced like a smartphone should be able to do.

Jellybean batt life observation

Seems jb batt life is pretty bad. 2%/hr idle. Alot of wake locks also from maps and networklocator. :Im assuming all from google now?
Noticed that over the last 24 hours battery life was worse than usual while I was on jellybean. Think you are probably right that Google now is the culprit, I really hope that it gets better before the ota but at the moment it just doesn't seem like it will be worth "upgrading".

Well, it must be Google Now. I turned it off and my battery is relatively the same as it was before. When using background location update, you can expect it to drain battery a little. Google Now uses your location data quite a bit.

I have yet to flash JB, but one thing concerns me. Is this not just a dev preview and not the final product that will be pushed out mid-July? Not to sound harsh, but I don't see why complaints are being made about battery life at this stage of JB. Just my 2 cents, fyi...

If you are getting bad battery life and wake issues, check your apps. I've heard LightFlow was causing wakelocks b/c it isn't optimzied for JB yet. I've deleted it until they can get it updated. So far, my battery life hasn't been great b/c I can't keep my hands off of it
Yeah, I would agree that battery life seems pretty good. It seems a little worse on Franco.kernel than stock, but hey, it's a new kernel and he is still trying to get all the kinks worked out. Also, no wakelocks on Light Flow, but I hope they update it soon, lots of my notifications stopped working.
Ehh I don't think its terrible at 2% an hour. Better than 10% an hour. I'll take a little drain for the beauty of JB
Sent from my JellyBelly Gnex
IMO I think it's draining a little fast, but I think that's because I keep flashing kernels and add-ons which reboots and causes the battery to drain super fast... and I've been messing with apps a lot too. So I'm gonna give it another day or two for a definitive answer.

I'm completely stock and my battery is almost the same. Think it's a bit early to tell yet, we've all been playing more with the new rom
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I am under the impression that the drain is slightly higher than on ICS, I am now 5,5 hours after charging, with 88% left (and a screen time of 18mins). On ICS I would be around 90 to 93% (with the 2000mAh battery). But nothing really to worry about.
Having said that, I did have lightflow installed and it did show in the wakelock screen, so I uninstalled that to see if the next charge gives me even better endurance.

Unimpressive battery life

Anybody else not terribly impressed with the battery life? Last night my bar Terry was at 87% and I pH Fayed about 30 minutes of of riptide and finished at 52% Rooted Running slim bean ROM, stock kernal. Not sure if this is normal but seems like it isn't as efficient as my former iPad 2.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I played Riptide 2 with 80% brightness for 1 hour and it only drained around 15-20% if I remember yesterday and I got my tablet yesterday as well so the battery hasn't settled in yet.
No complaints about battery life here. It's outperforming any expectations I had previously.
At the beginning, my battery drained heavily after a few hours with the screen off! After a couple of days however, battery life is the greatest than on any device I have owned. Perhaps it takes a couple of days. Overnight idle, only 2% battery drain.

I'm using Carbon rom with Elemental kernel, and my battery life is awesome. Try a different kernel, and you might get better results
Stock Rom + Jassy 5 Kernel
1d 7h 45min run time (51min screen, with gaming RR3 for 9min) Gives me still 78% battery life left.
No fancy settings.
On stock Kernel, i was getting roughly 2 1/2 - 3 days battery with 4 hours of screen time and 60-90min of intense gaming.
So I think you might have a rouge app or its the rom/kernel (yes its stock to the rom but is it modified in any way?)
Just plugged my n7 in this morning to charge, was at 6%. 6d12h uptime, 7h20 screentime (90% reading in Google Play Books). Stock, rooted, wifi set to off when idle.
Gonna have to mess around with some of the settings. Just watched a one hour show and battery went from 97-76%

I'm getting about the same battery life as the old one streaming Netflix. But if it's just regular browsing is a year better

Might want to see how stock does first? then maybe try a rom.
I had terrible battery life too, even on standby. Turns out it was a faulty unit.
Try it stock then compare. I got awesome battery life on mine stock better that OG N7

Are you guys having the battery drain while plugged in and watching Netflix? I feel as if this isn't normal. I even had lux installed with brightness at -50%

I think the problem is that you're comparing the battery life to that of an iPad. iOS devices are going to blow most Android devices out of the water when it comes to battery life.
Having said that, my new N7 seems to have better battery life than the 2012 N7.
I have been out of the loop with recent android updates, and my most recent exchanged device has very high Mediaserver usage-56% used, 10h kept awake and my battery is currently at 54%. Neither of the previous N7s I had showed this same issue, and I have used a very minimal amount of time actually using music/pictures apps. Disabling the stock media apps (gallery, play music) did nothing to stop it.

According to Aanandtech Nexus 7 2013 mini review, N7 2013's brightness is 86% brighter than N7 2012, 43% brighter than ipad 4, 54% brighter than Ipad mini, hence why when all are set to 100% brightness the N7's battery life will be substantially worse. Be more conservative with your brightness levels( 54% N7 2013 brightness =100% N7 2012 brightness) if you want battery life that is similar to Ipad2.
I've actually been very impressed with my 32GB battery life. I had the Nexus 7 (2012) 16GB and it would go dead running AOKP if left off the charger (no actual use) for like three days. I have stock 2012 32GB and have been using it heavily (same apps) and it will definitely get me through the day even with what I would consider very heavy use. If I know I'm going to be hanging out at home playing a game with bluetooth and max screen brightness I always plug mine in though.
Overall, in my opinion, a definite improvement over the 2012 version, and I have no complaints.
Edit: I was also going to suggest getting the app "Battery Drain Analyzer". It provides some cool features the default battery drain section of settings does not. It includes a percentage drain/charge per hour, estimated battery life, some charts and stuff too so you can see what is using your power.
I'm getting 10+ hours battery life.
Compared to my iPad Mini's battery life, yes my nexus 7 battery does not impress me. I guess I shouldn't expect great battery life when I play games. Maybe it was a bug but once I was playing Dead Trigger and turned the screen off but the battery still dropped VERY quickly
L. Ive also noticed that playing some games, like SVZ Defense 2, pretty much keeps the battery level constant while charging.
But other than gaming, I find battery life adequate. It's not great, but good enough for my uses. Once I take the time to do some research I hope to find a ROM that will increase my units life.
But yeah, DO NOT compare battery life to an iPad's. You will not be happy. Oh well, at least these things are better in ever other regard!
