I have just recieved my Epic 4g Touch and its awesome
But i have a question on updates. If i update android officially will it update the modem? And if it does does it limit my rom selection here?
Im not new to xda its that i jumped from the optimus t and ive never needed all the odin and modem updates to root or update. Just asking

If you take an ota then yes it updates your modem. The modem does not have any effect on the rom. That means you can have any modem and it wont effect your kernel/rom choice. For an example I am on an el13 rom with the el26 modem. You can change your modem by either flashing it in cwm or flashing the tar file in Odin. Welcome to the epic touch.

Here's a complete ROM for those that don't want to go through the hassle of reverting back to EG30 just to get the update
BIG THANKS TO VIPERBOY, CHRIS41G AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT HELPED PULL THIS....
This ROM is completely stock with exception of root/busybox added and it uses the repacked EK02 that Chris41G posted so that you keep CWM
Stock Rooted EK02 ROM (v1.0)
Thanks Caulk!

umm ek02 good i need the files.. Thanks man
awesome... thanks Calk!
Can I just ask what is the benefit of this EK02 system?
Is it a step towards getting ICS working?
Can we even revert back to EG30? I'm on EG31...

I'll post this question here as well.
I still have a EG30 nandroid backup from when I was on stock, now I'm on EG31 everything. If I restore the backup will that put me back on EG30 modem as well?

Modem is not backup by recovery, the only way now to update to the EK02 modem is when the full modem.bin is released in the update tar like the one for EG31. Once the update is released and the sprint stores get the tar, someone will post it like they did for EG31, so I'm not too worried.
ROM is up now...
I want to clarify something about this install. If we only want the modem update but we have already flashed the EG31, we need to flash this rom. That part I understand. My question is after we flash this rom and are updated, can we then flash a custom rom like yours or restore a nandroid since the modem isn't backed up by the nandroid and still be running on the newest modem but with our own custom rom? Or will we be stuck with this rom until the modem file can be extracted at a later date?

calk, thanks for the update and rom.
I installed your latest rom with eg31 yesterday and its running great. My question is can I run your wipe all zip and then flash this rom? If so do I get the ek02 benefits? (if there are any?) will I have any issues?
thanks in advance
sorry if its been stated, but this rom flashes the new radio too? i dont have to flash it thru heimdall? im on eg31 atm
Wow big night I see

as far as i know anyone on eg31 is sol. this eko2 is an update to eg30 and therefor can only be flashed over eg30. if you have anything but eg30 you need to wait until the official update comes out and the eg30 modem can be pulled. if you have eg31 nothing you can do will allow you to load ek02. no back up even nandroid or any rom, restore nothing, sorry.
anyway to find out which modem you are on?
also what does 3KO2 actually give us?
So anyone that has flashed EG31 cannot flash anything from EK02 at the moment?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
yes. Just wait till the official release/leak.
You will be able to flash once we get an offiicial tar.

Kernel or ROM, yes. Modem, no
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
You cannot flash the ek02 MODEM update. You can flash the kernel and ROM. The easiest way to do that at this point is flash Calk's EK02 rom over in the dev section. This will give you everything except the modem.
Just to be clear, you are not waiting for the OTA. The full OTA has been extracted and posted. You are waiting for the tar, which comes around the time of the OTA usually. The tar is given to the Sprint technicians and one of them usually leaks it here. The OTA modifies files, it doesn't install a new modem or system, it modifies the one you have. if you don't have the files it is attempting to modify, the update fails.
Think of the OTA as a windows update and think of the tar as the windows installation cd.
So after flashing a gingerbread Rom, it still looks like my modem is EC05. Do you have to flash a modem with ODIN? If not, what would be the easiest way to get to the gingerbread modem and is it worth even changing modems in the first place? I'm running legendary 2.2.

So I would have to flash back to froyo, upgrade to gingerbread, re-root my phone, and then flash a custom ROM? Is it even worth the new modem?

No... there is a delts flashable zip that you can flash in cwm to take you to ei22... search for it its around here somewhere...
Edit- I happened to have it saved... here you go... http://db.tt/XLHkG7QC flash in cwm and it will give you the ei22 modem... you have to be on the ec05 modem for it to take!!! So if your not odin the ec05 modem and then flash that in cwm

We really need a single stock flash that pre-roots with CWM and the latest modem. Anyone know if this is being worked?... or if it ever will?
Doubt it its not hard to odin el30 and root it. Just more steps but elimnates what 2-3minutes top...
I'd do it myself but have no idea how to xD
Not sure a file dump would be sufficient

Can't happen at the moment (well the modem anways). They have not released a full tar for the modem yet... which is why we only have delta flashable modems...

It doesn't flash a modem... only a rom... the only way to get the el30 modem is to flash it in cwm... and to answer you fully, I consider it a rom... it doesn't contain a modem... odin the ec05 modem and then odin that rom... guess what, you're still on the ec05 modem... that's what I consider it...

EL30 Odin package sans modem. Should be good enough for now. You just need to Odin the EC05 modem, found here. Then flash this delta to update to EL30 modem, found here.
3 steps isn't that bad to get to current stock, given the fact we don't have that official .tar file.
You are in the wrong place. You should post this on Samsung's website. You can have this after Samsung relases a tar. All the money in the world won't get it here.

I got the impression from the OP that what he/she wants is a pre-rooted stock ODIN tar. Can that be done without the modem?

Yes without the modem, not a problem. Toadlife already gave us a stock tar without the modem. It would probably be easy for him to make a prerooted version.

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of prerooted EL30 (with modem) + cwm + root. But a 2 step wouldnt be bad... if all one had to do is flash the delta right after odining the rooted EL30 with CWM.

Hit up Toadlife to throw a recovery and superuser into the tar he made then put a link to the modems thread in the OP with it.

well im not sure what you mean by that do you mean the fb15 modem? or the fb15 unnoficial update? bcuz el30 is different than fb15 you can have both haha and kernel wise just go ahead and flash one its just a kernel it cant hurt anything it just wont boot ive never bricked from flashing an incompatable kernel
probably not
it sounds like you're asking about the FB15 modem, with EL30 roms and kernels.. modem has NO impact on the rom or kernel you are running.

This!!!!! You can run any modem on any Rom
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
you flash any el30 theme or kernel to an fb15 rom. just back-up everything b4 to flash and for the theme mount system b4 flashing an el30 theme.
This is what's in my mind
Flashing fb15 stock tar with the modem
(If not rooted then root it)
then can I flash any el30 rom? Cuz I know when I did it with el30, ei22 roms didn't work for some reason

Why Odin a leak stock tar just to revert by flashing an EL30 or EI22 ROM? They will delete and replace everything but the modem anyway. So your answer is yes you can but don't know why you would want to.
