Unable to install or update apps via market - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

As of today i have not been able to download any apps from the market.
when i click on the "accept and download" button an error message pops up saying, "******" could not be downloaded due to an error. (-101).
I noticed that the apps look as though they are downloading but with a blue bar continuosly scrolling on the My apps screen.
I have tried clearing cache and data from "Download manager" but this has not helped.
Any advice please?

i guess you are rooted and running AOSP ROM
try clear the cache from CWM and fix permissions through ROM manager. if it wont work reflash the GAPS mate.

Interesting... I'm stock on 4.0.2 and just started receiving this about 48 hours ago too, I'm not rooted either.
Exact message: "Application Name" could not be downloaded due to an error [-101]
I did a bunch of searches and haven't found many solid responses or anything that's helped, some people said "it's a quota error" but that doesn't make sense since I haven't downloaded many apps in the last few days, others said to clear data/cache and that hasn't helped either. Also tried on both 4G and WiFi and that doesn't matter.
I've done reboots, etc. as well and nothing - even swapped batteries so "batter pull" will not be helpful either.
FYI - This is my 4th Android device and I've never seen this before.
Thanks for anyone that has any input!

Yes, did nothing.
I found this thread too:
http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/17505/how-can-i-fix-error-101-in-the-market
Just like this guy, my phone also isn't showing up in the online Market, it's showing my old ones but not my current (and it was there last time I checked about a week ago).

****, this appears to be happening to A LOT of GNexus users right now, if you check the first page in the Google search for this:
https://www.google.com/#hl=en&sclie....,cf.osb&fp=6f96d00fb0093b18&biw=1440&bih=802
Almost all threads point back to GNex users. Not cool...

Fixed it!!!
Here is what I did:
1. Settings
2. Personal: Accounts and Sync
3. Selected my Google account
4. Once within my Google account, clicking on the context menu/settings menu I selected "Remove Account"
5. Once the account was removed it prompted and asked for a new account, I entered the credentials for the same account and then rebooted
6. Once it rebooted I went to the Market, accepted the EULA and downloaded Google Gesture (I wanted to try a free app first) without any issues!
FYI - the account I deleted was fine, there were no issues in how it showed up but deleted it anyway.
I hope this helps people out! Good luck!

[Q] How to fix android market? (error processing purchase)

Some days ago I flashed a ICS Rom, all went good but the only thing that i noticed was that my phone name had changed to lt18i in the market. Today I decided to go back to my previous GB Rom so I restored it from my nandroid backup. Now my phone is still identified as a lt18i and cannot download anything from the market. I tried to wipe the app data of the play store app but didn't do anything. Also the remote download from the pc doesn't work at all.
What other things I could try? I really want to avoid a factory reset if possible.
EDIT: Found a solution, i moved/deleted the /data/system/accounts.db, wiped the app data from the Play Store and restarted the phone, added my google account again and the market updated my device name and the downloads are working again.

I just tried this solution for my HTC Incredible 2 and it worked flawlessly. I'm currently running ICS 4.0.4 from Aeroevan's CM9 build. I tried clearing the data from the market and download manager as well as trying the "killall drmserver" fix, which has worked before. This here did the trick. I wonder if removing and readding the accounts from "Accounts & Sync" would've worked as well? I'll try that next time if it happens again.
Thank you.
Thanks! This fixed my ICS ROM'd Play Store problem

Just got the purchasing error from market and tried removing my account from Accounts & Sync. Phone gave me this warning:
This account is required by some applications. You can only remove it by resetting the phone to factory defaults (which deletes all your personal data.). You do that in the Settings application, under Privacy.
This worked for me too after changing around my apns. My market started giving off that error. Then I did your fix and now market/playstore is perfect again! Thanks! By the way you have to do the whole fix! You cant just delete your account in accounts and sync settings cause that doesn't work I tried.
Awesome!! I was starting to get pi$$ed... This was saver!

Now, on my phone I tried to find /data/system/accounts.db in astro & other file explorer but couldn't find it. Not in root or SD. I see a data folder in root, but there is no folder in it.
I also don't see the option to remove acct data in play store options. I'm getting relatively better this stuff but I can't find the options detailed.
A bit of elaboration please?

I just ran into this problem, hoping it will work on my tablet. When you say you moved the /data/system/accounts.db, what do you mean. Where did you move it to? Or do you mean you removed/deleted that file. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I figured it out. Deleting the file did the trick. Thanks again
I actually resolved this issue simply by wiping cache and dalvik from recovery, and rebooting.
Btw yes I'm rooted but nothing there. I'll check again later though. Thanks.
Thanks. I have been searching for a fix. This worked for me!
Unfortunately this process didn't work for me. The various market fixing apps on the market don't work either (it's hard enough just trying to find their .apks since I can't download them over the market) and my CleanRom lost its keyboard and launch buttons thanks to trying this method. Looks like I'll have to wipe the device tonight. *sigh*
Edit: Dalvik and cache wiping fixed it for me.
This problem arose for me last night.
Fixed it by reinstalling 3.1.5 Market update.
Cache wipes did not help in any capacity.
Downloaded Market update file from www.arctablet.com/assets/apps/Android_Market_v3.1.5.apk
Probably a million places to find it but hope the link helps someone out.
I fixed this issue by making sure I was logged into Talk. The app wouldn't open so I uninstalled the update and then it ran fine, and the problem went away.
OP
your fix worked like a charm for me. CM9 on Motorola Photon. thanks!

You are my god! Worked

[Sprint] How do you turn off automatic system update?

I am getting ready to root my SGS3, and so I went to update the latest PRL and stuff before doing it. When in the system update section, there is no longer an option (that I could find) to turn off Sprint pushed updates. I don't want to lose root or have to re-root every time Sprint pushes out an update.
Does anyone know how to turn it off? Am I just missing something really obvious? On Gingerbread, there was a select box for "allow automatic updating", but I don't see anything like that on ICS 4.0.4. (at least, not the Sprint ROM).
A little help?
You should be fine. On my epic touch, you would get an update notification and then you would have to accept or deny it.

If you open up Titanium Backup, there's an entry called System Update. I just froze that app. Let's see if that blocks the update.

I changed my mind, my advice causes problems. Although this stops the update notification, it seems to keep the phone from sleeping once you get a notification. So your battery will be OK for a week or so.. and then all of a sudden your phone will not sleep. If you undo the above, then wait a few hours, you will see the update notification pop up. Then you can accept or decline it and your phone will then be back to normal (it won't burn through the battery.)
accept it and it should take you to recovery once you get to recovery it'll ask if you want to install unknown file do not go any further just reboot the phone and the notification will temporarily go away for while
Use rom toolbox to change build.Prop file to current build number. There are 6 or so entries. Reboot....

Download System tuner then select the startups menu option. Once in the startups sub menu go down to Google services framework and select it, do not un-check it just click on it and go into sub menu. Once your in un-check the update.systemupdateinstalldialog box and that should do it. only un-check that box.
Nothing like reviving an 8 month old thread . Good to know though, I've never tried it that way.
I'm happy to say there is still some life left in this thread! Thanks for the tips, guys.

[Q] Dinc2 can't talk to Google - i think Google hates me

Perhaps someone out there has a suggestion for what i can do to fix my phone...
Ok, so I rooted my Dinc2 last spring, then that phone died, and i got a replacement Dinc2 and rooted it. It was working fine until it apparently heard that i got an iPhone for work, and now Google won't talk to me.
Or more specifically, i can't get my phone to connect to Google servers. I can't add a new Google account, sync my e-mail, connect to YouTube, or pretty much ANYTHING involving Google, at this point.
In searching for a solution I've seen various instructions from "delete/clear data/cache for Gmail' (now it just says "waiting for sync"), to 'do a factory reset' (um... not if i can help it)...
One suggestion i saw involved removing the Gmail account and re-adding it... unfortunately, i can't add a different one, so therefore i can't remove the one that's already been added.
I've also seen suggestions to edit your hosts file - and I am running the Magnolia 2.1 ROM, so it has an ad-blocking hosts file (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509997) . I figure that could be the issue, however i can't change it.
You see, after Gmail started acting stupid, i was trying to get into Google Play to re-load/update/something the app, but Google Play also wouldn't connect, so i attempted to refresh that by un-installing the updates (thinking it would auto-upgrade back to the google play, but with a fresh install)... so now i have Market, but it won't connect to the google servers.
What does that have to do with the hosts file? i dont' happen to have a terminal app on my phone, and now i can't install other apps, because, well, Google.
I suppose i can check out the Amazon appstore for a terminal app, but at this point, i'm over my head as far as deciding a good course of action from here, and was hoping someone would give me some advice (or a solution, other than re-installing my nandroid backup that's a few weeks old...) *twitch*

Thanks everyone... reflashing makes more sense... :silly:
No i haven't tried a different rom, this one worked fine for 8 months - then i had to move it onto a new phone - which (once i got the tacoroot to actually work) was also working for two weeks even after i swapped phones, and did a recovery restore of the whole thing...
then it stopped working for some reason.
So, i gave up last night and did a recovery restore - but just a cache wipe/davlik wipe and restore didn't work -- so this morning I did a factory reset and then the recovery restore and it seems to be working again... hopefully it will keep working...
Now all i need is to restore my sms that i backed up before trying the restores...
I'll be back if it stops working again...
Er... i thought it was working... at least now Gmail and Play don't instantly crash when i try to open them...
but after 5 minutes, gmail still hasn't gotten any new mail....i'll try removing the account and re-adding it... *sigh*... this is how it all started the first time it broke...

Yeah, I did that much --
The issue is that the phone won't talk to Google... as in, Google play can't connect, adding a new Google account to the phone can't "establish a reliable connection", manually syncing gmail does nothing...
and, apparently, flashing GApps didn't help...

Sorry for misunderstanding you on the reflash!
In any case, here is where i am - tried recovering the ROM + Apps (using a recovery backup) to what used to work the beginning of Jan... didn't help - in fact gmail and play crashed when i tried to open them.
Did a factory wipe and recovered again -- this time they open, but they still do not connect...
Flashed the GApps... still no connection (but also no crashing - so that's something)...
Where i am -
Internet works (can get to www.google.com and searches work)
Google search bar works
Gmail just sits there
Google Play tells me connection timed out (regardless of how many times i "retry")
Google maps works fine
Accounts & Sync - "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly"
Add New Account - Google - (sign in to existing...) hangs for a good LONG while then says "Could not establish a reliable data connection to the server." (and in smaller print) "This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Costumer Care"
x 1000
Other errors: Activity Google sign-in (in application Google Services Framework) is not responding (force close/wait)

Both - i did a restored backup after a factory reset (which got it so i could open the google applications that had previously been crashing), then i downloaded gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip and installed it... which didn't help.
see my response to Prototype7 as to where i am at the moment as far as errors...

You're on a different rom than me, but try this:
Go to Manage Apps, find google services framework, clear data.
then go to google play store (or market), clear data.
Reboot.
If that doesn't work, I really don't know what to tell you.
It doesn't sound like you have done: factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe system: flash rom and gapps and start from scratch setting up your rom. Only restore the minimum from titanium, especially until you have figured out if it is running stable.
thanks...

The Manage Applications / clear google crap broke it the last go round -- (well, clearing data didn't, but reverting to market from play screwed it up)... so i think my only hope is start from clean rom and don't do any Titanium restores of any Google-made apps... especially since all my titanium backups are from after the issue presented...
I guess this means i can pick whatever ROM i want now... since i have to start from scratch anyway... maybe i'll finally go to an ICS one...

CyanogenMod 12 Discussion and Bug Report thread

This thread is intended for discussing CyanogenMod 12 by @arco68 for our Galaxy W:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...cyanogenmod-12-0-20141230-unofficial-t2988830
NB. Read the installation instructions carefully as its quite different from previous ROMs.
NB. The first boot can take up to 50 minutes during which you'll see nothing but the boot animation.
NB. This ROM is still in its infancy, and many CyanogenMod features have yet to be included in upstream.
Huge thanks to arco68 and Christopher83 for making this ROM a reality.
Well, devs saddle up, end users rejoice...but this is certainly a huge amount of work done in a short time period, given the amount of differences.
...I'll miss Xposed until it's updated. Hoping that V4A will still work.
I've been using it for a couple of hours now, and I'm really surprised at how well its working!!
Most of the bugs I've run into are non-device-specific, and are due to the infancy of CM12 upstream.
Whats really funny is that not even my Nexus received 5.0.2 yet :')

Yeah, plenty of upstream bugs and feature limitations.
Hoping to get some magically unsecret things sorted out with CM12 in an effort to test various new things.
Seems like Performance option not implemented yet on settings. CMIIW
So, any idea how to get translucent status bar without changing build.prop?

I think the only way is editing build.prop for now
Everything has gone fine until I install a "smartkeyboardpro" offline apk. After the apk installation finished, the screen went blank and i didn't see any display responses on the screen. But when I pressed and hold the power button, 'shutdown' and 'reboot' options appeared so I just rebooted my phone. The phone then rebooted and there came up a 'android is upgrading' followed by 'android is optimizing 1 app'.. but it seemed to take forever that I decided to re-wipe and re-install the rom
On the second boot, I got optimizing 3 apps message too. Took about 15 minutes.
Subsequent reboots are all fine.

yeah it took so long and i never thought that it would last like 15 minutes..
I'll try to install offline apk again and see what happens..
The optimizing apps on second boot is TRIM running. Google changed this in 5.0.2, so now it is run automatically once a day. Either during the night while phone is charging or after you reboot.
After I log in to my google account, google ask me to backup data and apps or not
Then I choose yes and just select 5 apps (total around 80 Mb)
Then it says restoring...
It is so long waiting. So, I reboot and I cant bypass to launcher. It still says restoring after I reboot. Im still waiting now...

that's because you've select to restore your applications that synced on google play (backup) service, So you have to wait until all apps installed.
I was select as new device, so I have to install one by one from play store again.
encryption unsuccessful ,how can i fix it;? please help
I don't think encryption on a phone like ours is a good idea. (single core, 512MB, very slow MMC)
It slowed the hell outta my new Nexus!!
Any ideas on what to do with the .img files inside the zip if I, say, wanted to edit the system contents before flashing so I can remove/replace applications?
I found strange black screens inside folders gallery, all black screens persist for every single picture on gallery, and make looks like cheese board pattern

So I reinstall and select nothing. It works. I dont know what is the problem anyway. If I watch youtube, the restoring is just less then a minute then it jumps to launcher then continue to download selected apps. In my case, it stucks at restoring...
Other question: Gesture typing is not working on AOSP keyboard, I have enabled gesture typing in setting. Is it just me or not?

This is fixed with latest CWM 6.0.5.1 fresh install from here. For flashing details see first post at CM12 Mr. Arne thread, especially CWM section. I also have been updated my CWM few months ago to apparently "old" 6.0.5.1, but there was no option "format /data and /data/media" under "mounts and storage" menu. Only "format /data". Good Luck!

"com.android.providers.downloads.ui" causing performance issues

Hi
Recently I bought an A5 (2017) cell phone, but I'm facing terrible performance issues (lagging, delays, crashes and noise during sound playback).
Additionally I get the message that com.android.providers.downloads.ui is causing performance issues. (unfortunately I'm not allowed to post screenshots.)
Interestingly when I use the "Device Maintenance" in Setting and clean the RAM, the problem is gone. I tried to close the apps one by one to find out the one that is causing the problem, but I wasn't able to do so.
I tried freezing com.android.providers.downloads.ui by cmd appops set <package_name> RUN_IN_BACKGROUND ignore and the problem was solved, but when I wanted to use Play Store, it said that I had to enable Downloads app.
Any help would be appreciated.

As I said, I can freeze the package, but when I open Play Store it says that it needs Downloads app to be enabled.

Thanks for reply.
I did wipe cache and it seemed to fix the problem but after a while the problem was back. I can't root my phone and there is no option for wiping dalvik in recovery mode.
About last option, does flashing stock ROM delete my apps and data? And where can I download stock ROM?

Flashing the ROM won't delete anything on your phone.Visit SamMobile and look for your model to get the correct ROM(Instructions can be found on the site)Also click thanks!?
You have been deleting things. This has caused the "com.android.providers.downloads.ui" error. Use Odin to flash your firmware to restore everything to normal. When you flash the firmware, choose home_csc to avoid deleting your data. Otherwise you will lose everything

I don't know how you got that I've been deleting things, maybe because of my bad English, but I haven't.
Actually, I started to disable (or freeze) the Download Manager after I received the "com.android.providers.downloads.ui" error many times.
I really prefer not to flash my phone, because it's really hard for me to install the apps again.
It will be great if you could suggest a way to overcome the problem without losing my apps or data.

Sorry....I see you are not rooted. That's fine.
Option 1....downgrade Google Play Services - locate in apps and uninstall updates. This will revert to an earlier or factory setting.
Test it and let me know

That's wrong actually you just flash the ROM,I did it multiple times and no he can't delete system stuff in order to cause those errors otherwise phones would have been complete trash.I really don't know why it's trash since it's brand new though?

I mispunctuated my reply earlier. No big deal.
I was on the understanding that if the CSC is flashed as part of the main firmware installation everything goes however, if HOME_CSC is flashed, data remains.

There is no such option as "uninstall updates" in Google Place Services in app section. And the disable button is grayed out. I googled, and it seems I need to root my phone to be able to downgrade Google Play Services.

Hi. Sorry - just seen this.
Okay. In Apps section, tap the 3dots at the top right of the screen and select "Show system apps".
When loaded, scroll down to "Google Services Framework". Tap it. Tap Disable.
Reboot. Repeat process to then enable. Reboot. See what we have.
It's just a case of diagnostics now, if you want to avoid the flash route (we'll try and keep that as last resort - but you will not lose data using my method above)

I downgraded the Google Play Services, but unfortunately it didn't work. The problem is same and additionally Media app (containing Downloads and Download Manager) is draining my battery too.

It's driving me crazy!!!
When I disable MTP Host the battery draining and performance issues are gone, but of course some the other necessary features would be out of access too.
I was wondering if there is any way to update or replace MTP Host!?
