When in the dialer and I enter the first few letters of someone's name, it sometimes only allows me to only select the default number, it does not give me the option to select other numbers for the specified contact. Is there a way to fix this or am I missing something?
Thanks.
what rom and theme are you using?
I think that's a touchwiz thing to be honest. I can't say for sure though. The only way I've been able to go around it is by hitting the 'contacts' button towards the top of the dialer or to go into the actual contacts 'app' and choose from there.
Jm, having u tried doing that right from ur contacts instead of the dialer?

That's not his question. It works from contacts.

Yes, I know it works from contacts.
I am currently on RandomRom Thunderhawk 3.3 but I do not think it is ROM related as I have experienced it with other roms.
Ok..I'm going to try what u did with the rom I'm on and see what happens...

the weird thing is that it does not happen all the time, sometimes it gives me a choice and other times it does not
Ok, I tried it. Press the letters of the contact, u will have a little arrow next to the contact, press the arrow, it will bring up that contact on a small separate window. Press the number again and it should display the other numbers for that specific contact. If there is only one number, that's all its going to show as the end result.

Ok, just to clarify.. my issue is choosing numbers belonging the same contact
When you start typing name, if you select contact before hitting drop down arrow it will only match the default number. To choose non default number you must hit arrow before tapping the contact if it is the 1st result.
Thanks.

Perhaps clear the defaults for the contacts in question. Setting one number for a contact as a default is likely causing your dialer to DEFAULT to that number. For contacts without a default number the dialer will ask you which number to use.

That's why I stated the particular method.

my gf has two entries in my phone book; her name, and also ICE (in case of emergency). but whenever I get a call it comes up as ice,. is there a way to control this behaviour?

Go to your gf's contact with both numbers displayed, press and hold the one you want as the default number. When the option menu comes up select 'set as primary number' option.
That should work.

ah, no, other way round. Same number, two contacts. ice always comes up but I want her to come up instead.

I had this too - does her the first letter of her name start after "I"? You might be able to change her name to "A"+ her name ???

No, her name begins with A already! For some reason ICE always wins.

weird! Is ICE all in caps? Try changing it to lower case???
Surely you don't have to select them one by one.

which mail app gmail or stock? if stock check the ones u want then there is a down button at the top right and it says mark as read
The quickest way I found is to either select the check box on each day, which checks all emails for that day at once. Or you can long press the day bar (the blue bar labeling each day) , which collapses them, and then select each day without having to scroll. It's much quicker.
Then just pull down the menu and mark as read.

Is there a known issue with area code being left off of a number. When I go to recent calls to text a number that is not in my contacts. When I select the text message icon the message that opens up doesn't have the area code attached

That's weird. I suggest re-flashing or updating to a newer nightly if you aren't on the latest.
I was going through my mails and I wanted to copy some part of mail to send it as sms.. I found that I couldn't do it by pressing screen for long. It used to be so on my earlier phone note 2 but I am not sure if the feature doesn't exist or is it that I am not aware of it..
So anyone encountered similar problem??
Is there any workaround or built in feature for the same???

It works for me in email and any other area with text available for selection. Long press will give you the ability to move the selections "controls" around how much text you want to select. Once selected, a few icons will pop-up (I know one is for Copy and another is for Find)
For email it is working after pressing for sometime but let's say you want to copy the phone no. from the contacts..you go to edit and try the same and it won't work

Hmm for me a simple 2 second long press on the phone number itself( after pressing edit as you mention) results in a pop-up with a selection to copy

Same here, takes me a while to figure this out...
how do you make the phone dial an extension automatically? instead of just hitting the contact and the phone dialing the number and then you have to punch in the extension, is there a way to have it dial the extension along with teh phone number?
I know in aosp, when you're dialing a number, you can press menu and insert a two second pause. I'd say insert a couple of those, then put in the extension.
TW should have similar options.

TW does.... this is pretty common in cell phones for quite a while now.
Oh oh. There is. Dang but i forget how
Google search maybe? "creating contacts with phone number extensions"
