OK so I'm done with poor battery performance on my rooted stock rom evo.
I have tried elite 3: Bluetooth wouldn't work and some market apps wouldn't install and various other things were buggy. Liked the battery and feel though.
CM7 was OK but I use groups for my dialer too much so that was out.
So I'm looking for a good battery sense rom were things work. Netflicks, GPS, 4g... well all of it really.
I'm thankful for the developer's work but isn't there a rom that just works without all the little buggers at this point? I don't care about boot animations if I can't use the phone as its built.
Yeah I'm *****in but still.
Any thoughts?

Flame away I guess. Ill keep plugging this thing in and wishing for the unreasonable.
I really liked elite3 a lot. But like I see in so many posts about every rom I had to go. Don't developers get that?
Its kinda like getting great looking motorcycle that's fun on the weekends but can't really rely on to go to work.

Try Dr. Ryder's Eternal Prophency v5.9 or Calkulin's EVIO 2 v1.8 with the 150mV undervolt if your phone can handle it. Both are low on theming with above average battery life with everything working.
Try anything gingersense or gingerbread, you notice a significant battery improvement. Only thing Netflix don't work with gingersense but im sure we'll see something pretty soon about that.
Also turn off your mobile data when your not using your phone, Or find an app that turns it off when while the phone sleeps. That'll help too.
I second that on eternal prophecy too, if you need to stay on froyo.
Seriously man, just look at the star rating next to the ROM and start flashing and figure it out yourself. I'm sure you can read a list of what works and what doesn't on any ROM. If you didn't like ES3 or Cyanogen, you may be a bit picky and should probably download dsixda's htc kitchen and bless us with your perfection.
Done preaching, I have run SalvageMod 1.2.1 for a month straight without any problems and I demand more out of my phone than 99% of the people on XDA. If you don't like the AOSP dialer, download a different one from the market.
Salamander. (Alaman I had to leave this auto correct cause it makes me laugh)
Anyway. Yes I'm picky so get over it. I checked the market and tried some things. Not to my liking.
Regardless I just had to post. I can see star ratings just fine. That's why I tried a couple of roms. I had an og Droid with cm6 and that was neat. Still like that phone too.
There is nothing wrong with me asking for what I'm looking for.

Calkulin's Evio 1.8 won't let you down if you want full function from 2.2 and sense
salamander is cool, I got alaman from a misspelling
You know something alaman. Why did you even bother? That's exactly the reason I haven't posted before because I do read. For a couple months now and tried some things.
If you want me to bless you how this... suck it hard baby.
I specifically posted my thoughts and what I'm looking for and didn't slight anyone. Simple criticism is all. I love design and neato stuff these guys do. I see potential in it and desire more. Why not? HTC built sense to make android better for whatever market they saw fit. Fine and dandy. I like to use my dang ol evo they way I want and would like to see these things happen.
If my post bothers you and you are complaisant with your phone then go on dude. Ya prick.

I have been running Elite III since it was released and never experienced any issues. Apps have always installed. Bluetooth is flawless. I use bluetooth heavily as I connect to both my car stereo and my computer. Really haven't had any issues with it at all. I love it.
I re-rooted my phone and am using the latest stock rom. I'm getting really good battery life. I can go all day on a charge with normal use. I turn my 3G off when not using it. That's all.
Have you done the battery calibration? It's a pain in the ass but I would swear by it. It's a loooong one time process but worked great for me.

Htc evo rom virus rom
if you want a rom thats amazing for the HTC Evo try Virus Roms there the best i think
my favorite as of now is VR Kingdom and its got 4G and Sense 3.0 with is amazing battery life is good to an extent depends on what your doing at the time but keep in mind the rom is huge like 350MB+ but you wont regret flashing
Hello all,
I am looking to move to a different ROM. I am currently on Cyanogenmod 7 Nightlies and have been for at least 4 months. Prior to this, I was on Myn's TwoPointTwo, but development seams to have stopped on that, although it was not bad when I was on it.
I would like a ROM that is mostly Gingerbread AOSP without a lot of mods. CM7 is nice, but I can't stand the WyContacts dialer/contacts/history app. I like them separate. I do like ADWLauncher, so that cooked in is fine.
I don't know if this is a CM7 problem or not, but WiFi Hotspot interferes with Bluetooth. Causes my calls to cut in and out like crazy.
Any suggestions would be great.

My 2 cents is deck 1.2.1 with tiamat 4.0.6 with sbc. Blazing fast with regards to overclocking, not to mention a lot if free internal memory and available RAM. Battery drains quickly overclocked. Capable and stable at 1.226ghz (i think that's the setting) using Android overclock from the market. Also has built in advanced settings, similar to cm7's. A lot of nice tweaks in there. Just my experience. Hope it helps.

Thanks! I've just flashed to Deck.
However, the first thing I noticed is that it still uses WyContacts. Any way to go back to Gingerbread dialer/contacts/history apps?

+1: the gingerbread-evo-deck has been my favorite AOSP ROM since it was released; currently at 1.2.1. I like the Go Launcher and Go Contacts so I've switched to them. Added Link2SD to utilize my Ext3 partition for apps, and that's about it. Throw all my apps on there, everything works and works great!
If you're interested, also works great with custom kernels by Savaged-Zen and Tiamat (currently using SZ 2.2.1). There are many great options, but IMHO you can only get different, not better.
Good luck, and thank you for your time.

Your post count is over 100 and you've been here for a year, and you could have just skipped over this thread completely after reading the title. So, the only reason that you opened this thread at all was to chastise the OP. So as you question why he committed the mortal sin of posting in the wrong area, you should also be asking yourself why it was so important for you to slam him with obscenities for it.
Personally, I'm far more annoyed when someone posts, "What's the battery life like?" in a thread with 500 responses including 60 responses to that same question that has already been asked 10-times in the same thread.
Yes, this was posted in the wrong area, but in my observation you get much better responses to such a question here than you will in Q&A because many users, myself included, rarely if ever go into the Q&A area. I'm not supporting posting in the wrong area, but I do understand why a question like this was posted here.
Thank you for your time.

I have been on gingerbread-deck for almost 24 hours now. It is definitely fast.
That said, it still uses WyContacts. Do nearly all AOSP ROMs use that? Does Gingerbread not have it's own dialer and contacts apps?
If a ROM doesn't have ADW Launcher built-in, is the standalone version the only option or is there a way to kind of integrate it with Gingerbread? Any advantages to this?

This is my first rooted phone as well and I notice big differences with roms. I was using Jugs4.1 for a while and my phone was way faster and had better battery life. Along with the quick toggles and ability to change the battery icon i felt like it was a very different experience. Right now I am trying out bombardier rom and the battery life is AMAZING!! I consistently get 20+ hrs and I am a pretty heavy user. Id say just try out different roms and then go back to stock and you should see the difference.

Also search for mods in Themes and Apps for a thread with "morph" in the title for full customization.

Welcome to jelly bomb domination!...once you complete a full battery cycle and compare to other roms you will not mind the theming. Read/search the thread for how to mod it. You can get rid of the pull down graphic, slider and even the subdued background image that appears everywhere in v.8.0. At first I wasn't liking some of these either but now I barely notice them.

The answer to your search depends on whether you want to keep Touch Wiz or not. The upside to Touch Wiz is that you can still use S-Beam etc.

I would just flash for yourself and see what you like best. Different phones react differently to ROMs so what works for some people may not work for you. It seems that most people here are using Jelly Bomb, Wicked Sensation, Paranoid Android, CM10. Try them for yourself, but be sure to give it a few days to settle before you make any decisions on battery life, stability, etc.

idk.. the jelly bomb drove me nuts.. to much theme.

I'm in the same position. I upgraded from my 3 year old EVO 4G and am looking for where to start. This is a whole new learning lesson for me after being so use to roms and upgrading on the EVO. Are there some stable stock roms that have the sprint applications removed already? Which recovery is preferred as well. The EVO pretty much had only one recovery that worked well and Clockwork wasn't it. Not it appears there are 5 or six. TWRP is looking pretty good.

I'm new to Android. I made a few posts on here making that abundantly clear (lol). I am just wondering, what exact part of the OS is the kernel? For example, I'm using LiquidSmooth with the default kernel that was included with that. If I were to flash the ktoonsez kernel, what changes would I see? Also, could someone point me to a site where I can download the KT kernel for LiquidSmooth 4.2.1 JellyBean Beta 2? What other kernels are there? What are the advantages of using them? And finally, where can I find them?
I'm looking for a way to conserve battery life right now, but not take away from how my phone currently looks. Sorry for asking such a stupid set of questions, but I'd like to know about this since I plan on sticking with Android. And if that's the case, I wanna learn all about the neat things I can do to make my phone customized, sleek looking, and effective.
Thanks in advance for helping out this new comer to the Android scene
The kernel is the interface between the devices software and hardware. Its basically a bundle of drivers and code to tell the hardware and software how to communicate. All computers use a kernel from windoze to OSux and Linux. Android is based around a modified version of the Linux kernel. You won't see any visual changes when you flash a kernel. And you can find em here in the development or original development sub forums

Cool thanks for the detailed explanation. I never really took the time to look up the exact purpose of kernels in an OS but you just explained it to me perfectly.
So, are there any kernels that are better for say battery conservation and performance?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
That all depends on your settings and usage. Theres no one way to get the best battery and performance for your usage, mostly just trial and error trying out different settings and tweaks til you find what works for you. For a good battery performance balance undervolting and overclocking work well. For instance I'm on a note 2 and im overclocked to 1.8ghz and undervolted by 75mv across the board and get almost identical battery to stock, however I still gain in performance without sacrificing battery. Now if I drop my clock rate back to stock and keep the undervolting I get same performance as on stock but my battery life increases by a few hours.
