[Q] Dust under screen? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I have a pretty rediculous amount of dust under my screen down at the bottom. I got my phone used so I don't have a warenty but I was wondering if anyone might know how to get it out or if there is somewhere I can send it to get cleaned. Thanks for any help.

Try Craigslist or online for how to take the screen off

That sucks, I had that problem with 2 of my OG Droid Inc's, never was able to find a way to clean it since the screen has a mild adhesive between layers and that seems to be where the dust resides. I've been lucky with my Inc2 and not had that issue though. Best of luck and if you find a solution please post the findings here for others future reference.

Well it turns out my mom is getting me the gnexus for my birthday on the first . Once I get it I will try to take this one apart to clean it and share the easiest way if it is succesful. Thanks for the help.

[Q] Bricked my Evo (a REAL brick!)

Okay guys, I need some help from some genius hacker out there! I bricked my Evo... I know what you are thinking... Yes, it is a REAL brick!! the kind where your phone does not respond to anything at all!! It doesn't even charge or connect to the computer, the screen doesnt even come on.
I was updating the radio and it went to the white screen with the green android. When that happens you are supposed to let it sit, its loading or whatever, i rushed in and took the battery out, and that's where i screwed up! I knew i wasn't supposed to do that but at the moment i didn't remember that part!
Some help would be greatly apreciated, if you can fix my problem, I might be able to pay back with some real information about boost+evo!
Thank you

If you pulled your phones battery during a radio update your phone is now a paperweight. If it won't turn on there's nothing you can do. I hope you have insurance bud. Sorry
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Nevermind.
If you pulled the battery before the radio update finished and it wont respond, its pretty much a sure thing that its done man. Sorry There isn't anything anyone can do. Have you tried charging the battery for a while or a different one?
Edit: Damn y'all fast, lol.

Unfortunately, you are correct. You now have a REAL brick and there is nothing you can do about it. If it's under warranty, take it to sprint and see what they say.
That is the one way to guarantee making a brick out of an Evo...pulling the battery during a radio flash. Sorry for your luck.
EDIT: We all replied at the same time. Nice.
Yea, that's what I thought, but maybe, just maybe, someone came out with a solution... But yea, i have 2 batteries and a charger for them... I have done sooooo many worse things to this phone and this is the one thing that actually screwed it up... LOL
I wish i could take it to sprint, but i can't.. LOL don't ask why please...
Oh, well, Thanks anyways!

Haha, I'm going to ask anyway, WHY??? Does it have something to do with your boostmobile comment in the OP? Or for some other reason you don't have Sprint service? Bad ESN? I don't really care, I'm just curious. But yeah, as everyone else has said, you're hosed. You might be able to get $50 on craigslist as a non-working parts phone. Or, call up HTC and see if they'll do a warranty replacement without involving Sprint. No idea if this is even possible, but it's worth a shot. Unless the ESN is bad, then you're probably on your own.

Best bet is to sell it for parts on Craigslist or eBay. If all of the hardware is in good condition, you may be able to get some money for it.

Have to send phone back to tmobile for warranty exchange...

I have read the guides about returning s-on and going back to stock. But from everything i read, this does not apply to gfree. How do I get s-on with gfree? There are many a people in the remove permanent root thread that have complained of the same thing. Can someone help me
Edit: Seems I need to use gfree in conjunction with the steps outlined in the remove permanent root topic. Problem is, when do I use gfree to turn s back on? After I install the original pcimg, after the ota update, or before all of it?
Edit again: Seems all the info needed is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision
Would still like some advice on if you think they will give me a hard time on the problem below...
Also, the reason i'm sending it back is because i'm STILL not done paying this phone off, and it has a VERY VERY small hairline crack at the bottom of the screen, it is barely noticeable and honestly looks like a hair if you really look at it. Do you think they will catch it and charge my account! I really hope not!!! The phone itself does not have a scratch or dent anywhere on it other than that. I see other people sending back things in way worse condition hardware and software wise, so i'm not too worried, but just want to tap into others experience with this type of issue.
I'm with ya on this. I gave up on my exchange because the hex editor didn't work. Plus the guides seem to have small holes in the instructions which make it hard for me to complete
If its a really small crack they won't and shouldn't say anything as long as its small. I had a G1 back when it came out and got a replacement which already had a crack in it. No matter what they tell you, you are getting a refurb. After a few returns they end up offering you a new one...but it takes a lot of returns or you threatening to leave. If you are a long standing customer with good history the retainment department can do a whole hell of a lot more that the customer service/tech support department

build number is 4.22.651.2
I know ill get into trouble by posting this here but oo well at this point I dont care
Take the OTA. Should root it and give you admin powers to all the worlds nukes. :-D lmao! geeze. there isn't even a reason to use the search. the answer is right on the main pages!
BUT really. not joking about the OTA. just wait a few weeks. Sure HTC will submit an update for sprint to send to us. oh wait, sprint would NEVER let us have that update. haha they would make sure we couldn't root it. Well, search temp root for the evo.

Look man, I usually don't post replies like this but seriously this question if getting annoying. Look at this point there is no ROOT for this OTA that also includes a temp root....its really right in your face and plastered all over this forum. If you just checked Q&A section or even General section you would find it. Or even if you searched this forum itself you would have seen people like yourself post the same exact question.
HTC will be adding magical powers to the next OTA update. :-D
HOWEVER, WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET HTC-signed files. BOOM ROOTED!
There is no Easter Bunny, over there that's just a guy in a suit!
Run unrevoked one click while your phone is in the microwave.
This next step is very important, the microwave must be in the "on" position

If the microwave on trick doesnt work you can always try what I did to get S-Off.
Simply climb a telephone poll and plug your phone directly into the power line. Once you do that you need to flap your arms six times and screem "I'm a pretty birdy" as loud as you can so thst the voice to text on your phone can pick it up. Once you do that unplug your phone and you will have s-off.

Go to radio shack and get cool with the service guys. Have them call u when someone swaps a evo with 2.2 for for evo3d. Then swap your phone with there's. If it means anything to u really to be rooted get a 2.2 evo off Craigslist and then sell your evo back on it. Sprint wont be allowing no more unlocked devices if its up to them. They not stupid, I'm sure the techs troll these type websites. When the next firmware update arrives they gonna do it again. If it means that much take it upon ya self to get a rooted device or 2.2 evo. At this point late in the game you gotta pay to play.

To achieve root with the latest OTA simply shove the EVO in your anal canal. This will confuse the phone and force it to root unrevoked style. Once you relieve yourself of the anal obstruction you will be fully rooted. Try it and see!

[Q] will replacement require extra work??

Ive had my baby Evo for 10 months (the best phone Ive had ever) but recently (due to some accidents Im guessing) the touch (digitizer) is sometimes being not responsive, some times it gets all crazy and doesnt work or chooses options without me touching the screen. I tried different roms to see if a rom or app was the problem, but it kept happening. my Q is, if I replace my Evo for a new one at a Sprint Store, will I have a hard time rooting it? Cause Ive heard of ppl replacing theirs and being unable to root or having to do some wierd procedures to get root... any help is appreciated!!
I think that depends in what hboot is sent to you and then I think you have to use htc unlock, you can see if a sprint repair store can replace the screen (i heard it can cost $35 or more,if they'll do it at the closest repair store)
Tapa away from a galaxy far away
A new evo will probably come with Android 2.3.3 which means that the only way to root is to use the revolutionary root method. Googling revolutionary root should bring up some guides so you can decide if you think its worth it for you
Swyped from my synergized best friend
ok so if I had to get my phone replaced (I rlly hope not) then I can still root it? also would it be best to have the screen replaced at Sprint or buy it somewhere and replace it myself?
Yes you should still be able to root. a lot of people got stuck unrooted because of the 2.3.3 update but revolutionary root works on that Android version now. And if you have insurance then the sprint store might be the safer way to go. Just make sure you unroot first just in case
Swyped from my synergized best friend
To answer your second question, no, you will have no problems rooting, as any version is rootable with Revolutionary.
However, since your evo is 10 months old, you will not get a brand new one. You will get a refurb.

The digitizer and screen are two different parts. If you are having touch problems, thats the digitizer, and can usually be replaced in a sprint store.

[Help] Data Recovery

Coming to the well of knowledge:
Sooooo, in the time I was trying to find that "perfect" case, I managed to drop my phone and crack the screen, which doesn't respond to touch anymore. My phone is pattern-locked, and stupid me turned off USB Debugging. I am rooted but not unlocked and don't have a custom recovery.
Through ADB, I was able to copy off my SD card partition which I was really stoked about, but my Titanium Backup is about 2 weeks old. Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions to acquire my info from /data/data.
I know without USB Debugging on, as well as being pattern locked I'm pretty much fubar'd but just wanted to see if anyone smarter than me can think of something.
Thanks for reading and any and all suggestions.

Awesome idea, Adriel!
Though the software in the link you provided didn't work for me (common issues with it), I was able to find another remote program (MyMobiler) that worked perfectly! Screen lock off, USB Debugging on, brand new backup created and saved it to my desktop. Now I'm going to wipe my phone and wait for my replacement coming today (I hope it's not a refurb).
Once again, thanks much for the suggestion!! :good:
