[Q] Unable to use UMTS Mode (ONLY GSM WORKS ) - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hi all
I just recently acquired a INC 2 Love the phone by the way and am located in INDIA
I'm running a r1 rom which offers full GSM functionality
SIM: TATA DOCOMO
The issue I have is
I can connect to GSM only Mode , but when I try GSM/UMTS or UMTS Only , the phone cannot cannect to a network.
The phone is SIM unlocked and in GSM only mode I can call/sms/data fine
My service provider uses the 2100 mhz band so obviously the INC 2 supports that, I have searched and lot and have tried various ROMS, but unable to narrow down a solution
i have tried the *#*#4636#*#* mode and even there only GSM ONLY works
NO GSM/UMTS , WCDMA or anything
Basically I cannot connect to 3G
Any suggestion guys

Had the same problem, couldn't find a solution. Bump!

Have you try manually entering the APN (access point network) for your carrier? That might help.

Yes I have, pretty much tried everything.

yes the APN is the same for both GSM and 3G
It just wont connect to a 3G network... only works on force 2G ie GSM

That is kind of weird. Does Tata only uses 2100 mhz? Maybe try updating the radios? Does the stock rom also not picking up 3G?
I'll be traveling to Hong Kong in 2 weeks and there uses 2100 as well. Let me see if I can get 3G and will let you know. It's hard for me to test UMTS on my DINC2 here in US coz I could only get EDGE from TMobile or AT&T.

All Indian networks use 2100 ... Yes it did not work on stock either ... I'm wondering if band unlocking is needed ..

3g in argentina please help!

hi, i have a brand new rhodium t-mobile version, flashed with the nrg rom feb 1st.
when i use the data connection the phone connects to the edge network, while the same sim card connects to 3g/H on a motorola milestone. i read on google that 2 or 3 users (the phone isn't sell in argentina) that have the same problem...
the 3g network in argentina works in the 1900/850 band, so i have it configured that way but it doesn't work.
does anyone knows how to solve this, please?
thanks in advance

3G with the T-Mobile version (RHOD210) works on the 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum. You will not be able to use 3G on your network with this device. There is no fix or work around. This is a hardware limitation.
EDIT: You should have gotten the Tilt2 (RHOD300). This is the AT&T branded version that has radio hardware which supports your network.

ok, last question, why in the band section it has the option to use 1900/850 Mhz?

that´s what i thought that it would work..

If it truly does support switching bands, as the link you posted would indicate:
http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm5...5611&navtypeid=6&pagetypeid=7&prevPageIndex=5
Then, I would recommend flashing the Stock ROM. Then see if you can get it to work with the stock T-Mobile ROM. If you can, then it probably is possible to do it using an Energy ROM as well. But, I don't think it is possible.
I am not that familiar with T-Mobile phones, since I use an AT&T Tilt 2. It seems unlikely that this would work, since in the United States even the T-Mobile HD2 doesn't get 3G when SIM unlocked and switched to use the AT&T network with an AT&T SIM.

That band switching feature is to set network preferences for your carrier outside of the US. The radio hardware does not support UMTS 3G. You will only be able to get EDGE speeds at best from this device on your carrier. You need the RHOD300 (Tilt2) to get 3G on your network.
that´s a bummer

Does CDMA galaxy nexus work with GSM

Someone has brought me a Galaxy Nexus from Bell operator in canada, I wonder if there is anyway it can work with GSM?
you should know that returning or exchanging the phone is not an option here. Im stuck with this phone as it is
This phone will NOT work on anything other then a CDMA & LTE network.

Regardless of what others are telling you about where this thread belongs ... a little research shows that Bell Canada retains a CDMA network but it's primary focus since 2009 has been it's HSPA GSM network. Please refer to the docs IN the box your phone came with .. if it is indeed an HSPA ie. simcard having GSM phone .. go grab an AT&T or TMO account an have fun.

[Q] LG G pro 3G issues

I have Korean LG G Pro F240L
everything works alright except that it doesn't fully use it's 3g capabilities
I live in an area where 3G signal is not that stable, usually 2-4 bars, signal can drop for a few seconds every now and then, I use telstra in Australia, which use 850Mhz/2100Mhz 3G network (850 in most areas, 2100 only for extra coverage)
I set the network preference as Auto, the trouble is that most of the time the phone sticks to 2G/GPRS with small icon on the top showing "G",
and if I want to use 3g I have to go to the network setting and change it from auto to "WCDMA only", the network will change to 3g (icon on top showing 3g) with signal strength about 2-4 bars
obviously with unstable 3g signals I can't keep it "WCDMA only" all the time, so I have to change it back to auto.
once it's in auto the phone will not revert to GPRS straightaway, it will keep going with 3g for a while and then if there is a drop of 3g signal it will then change to 2g/gprs and stay that way.
is there anyway to set the phone in "3g preferred" state where 3g is utilized automaticly whenever the internet is needed? (as far as I know, no such option exists).
do you have any trouble with your 3g settings? please share, thanks
I have discovered something new
in the hidden menu-WCDMA service menu-GSM/WCDMA band, when you click on WCDMA 1900 and WCDMA 2100, it shows success, whereas when you click on WCDMA 850 it displays fail
it seems that the phone is not using the stable 850 band at all, rather it relies on the 2100 band, this explains the erratic signal strength
I did a bit more digging
the band frequency for korean providers are
SK (S) 2G (CDMA) 800, 3G (UMTS/HSPA) 2100, 4G (LTE) 850/1800
LG U+ (L) no 2G, 3G (CDMA/EVDO)1800, 4G (LTE) 850/2100
KT (K) no 2G, 3G (UMTS/HSPA) 2100, 4G (LTE) 850/900/1800
also
telstra 2G (GSM/EDGE) 900/1800, 2G (UMTS/WCDMA/HSPA) 850 (main 99% population) /2100 (minor), 4G (LTE) 1800
AT&T (E980) 2G(GSM/GPRS/EDGE) 850/1900, 3G(UMTS/HSPA) 850/1900
strange that there doesn't seem to be direct connection/conflict between telstra bands and the LG U+ bands, i.e. if my F240L is able to use GSM and WCDMA 2100, why not WCDMA 850
I believe G pro is a global phone that supports all communication standards
I am unsure about the root of the problem, is it the matter of settings (i.e. can be solved by tweaking the service menu), or the problem of incompatible radio (hence can be solved by flashing appropriate radio)
also is there anyway to tell the band frequency the phone is using? I did my search and nothing yielded, I believe there is no such solution
my question comes down to how to enable/unlock 850 band on this phone?
If you use AT&T and have a korean phone, do you have similar problem? (as shown above AT&T partly relies on 850 band as well)
also if i guess right the problem is not limited to LG G Pro, any LG Korean phone potentially will have similar issues, I tried search optimus G forum but nothing turned up.
Same problem, korean phone wrong band

I have since learned that basebands are all hardware encoded, at least for LG phones, and there is no way to enable WCDMA 850 band if it is not originally supported by the phone, flashing the radio will not change the hardware capability of the phone
The Korean LG G pro supports only
2G : 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G : 900/2100 MHz
4G, LTE: F240K - 900/1800 MHz (Band 8 & 3) F240S - 850/1800 MHz (Band 5 & 3), F240L - 850/2100 MHz (Band 5 & 1)
I have since change the network provider (who provides 3G on 2100 band), it's not ideal but it's the only solution for me
pls correct my if I am wrong
i have LU6200
inside my house 3G is suck, so i use GSM Only mode, but i only get G signal which mean GPRS i think and it is very slow. How to enable 2G/EDGE so i can get faster internet than GPRS?
Hi, I have F240k the 3G over 900 Mhz band is imposible.. I dont know if my phone is broken or I need flash with any new Kernel or something.. if any one can help to me would be very apreciate

I tried most of the methods described here without success (flashing Telcel and Korean rom after, E988HK baseband, changing every setting in the service menu)
Which baseband do you use?
I can't use my new phone and I'm so desperate ;/

AT&T 2G/3G WorldWide [SOLVED]

Guys,
I bought an E980 (AT&T) and brought to brazil, unlocked it and its working great except for 2G/3G, just doesn't connect, I checked the frequencies and it's a match, my mobile operator (Claro) uses GSM 850-2G/2100-3G, are there any configurations/tests/flashings I can do for it to work?
G Pro - http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_g_pro_e985-5254.php
Thanks.
Sorry, meant to post in Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting.
One correction, my operator uses 1900 while AT&T 2100, but E980 is capable of 1900, I think it come disabled, can I activate it somewhere? Thanks.
AT&T doesn't use 2100Mhz. They use 850Mhz and 1900Mhz. 2100Mhz is mostly international like Asia and Europe. Check APN setting and also check *#*#4636#*#* if you're able to switch to HSPA/EDGE.

Thanks for the answer cpro, but the solution was actually alot easier, I was configuring the APN as a VPN, after gotting it right it's working like a charm, 5MBPs downlink.

Issue connecting to 4G

So a mate has a P2 and can't seem to get it to connect to 4G. The SIM card and network is Vodafone UK.
What I know/have tried:
- SIM in both sim slots will connect to 3.5G (HSDPA) on Vodafone network
- A different SIM (Three UK) did connect to 4G in the SIM slot 1 (did not try SIM slot 2)
- Settings says 4G preferred network is selected
- By typing *#*#4636#*#* into dialer and going to phone info displays LTE is selected as one of the preferred networks
- The same SIM (Vodafone UK one) connects to 4G in his old phone and has done in all his old phones
- APN settings are correct, verified by Vodafone support plus myself looking online
So he talked to Vodafone support again today who said try speed tests in 3 different locations and report back. He has done 1 which is 14mbps down and 3mbps up which is slow for 4G (I get 64mbps down and 24mbps up, different network but shows his is slow and likely not 4G). Similarly we we know the device can connect to 4G from using the Three UK SIM.
My gut instinct is it's a network issue, all device settings seem okay, nothing is screaming out of place. The issue though is that the SIM has connected to 4G in his other devices so confuses me.
So, I'd love your thoughts and inputs on this. Any suggestions welcome that may help! Thanks!

I dont know the device or network specifically But I know that the device has to support the same lte bands that the carrier broadcasts in LTE in that area Just because the carrier broadcasts say 900mhtz in LTE, if the device dont support 900 in lte then it wont get it. I have had cases wher 3g is the same freq as 4g it still wont pick it up If you get what I am saying. May be a issue or not.
to further add he might take one of the old devices and use a signal catching app to see what lte bands are broadcasted in his area then compare to device
Thanks @TheMadScientist, all suggestions welcome still. I'm gunna continue to keep an eye on this, research answers and send him a link to this so he can test anything on the device.

We get this issue a lot using sprint phones unlocked international gsm. A lot of carriers seem to not use the same lte bands.
Then naturly verizon devices come gsm unlocked but verizons radios are crap and do not pick anything up half the time. My veriz g5 can get lte next town over cause they use a supported band and no towers near me use it. So i get 3g. And a lot of h h+ i ise lte discovery as the app on mine.
Just hope this isnt his issue as its a harware compatibility .

You should check the manuals if there is support for 2600 frequency on phone.
Maybe the phone supports 800/1800(cos 3 is on 1800) and you don't have 800 band in area.
You will have to contact Lenovo and ask them to change baseband or whatever...
or Perhaps get a new phone with support for 2600
Had the same problem using a LG G3. I tried this App to trigger LTE only. Then the Phone connect to the LTE network.
