Hey Epic Touch owners I need your help - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I had an Evo 3D and honestly didn't really like it. So I "downgraded" to the Nexus S 4G. I like it a lot more and am excited about getting ICS soon but truthfully the thing I really really miss is the bigger screen. I also missed the other core, as scrolling and pinch to zooming is pretty bad on Nexus S 4g. I am a bit of a display snob though, I dont like the WVGA resolution on the Nexus I prefer sharp text and sharper browser pictures like the Evo 3D had (but like the colors of Super Amoled). Anyway, is the Epic Touch 4G the way to go? The phone looks sexy and 4.52 inches of screen is awesome, I'm just concerned that the WVGA stretched out even more will look worse.
What is the difference between Super Amoled and Super Amoled+? The only Sprint store I have has the Epic Touch in the worst possible spot, right in front of a window and the glare makes it tough to compare.
-Phone is mainly for texting, listening to music/podcasts, web browsing, and youtube viewing.
Also, I plan on buying this off contract and I don't make a lot of money so this will be my phone until my upgrade is up in 2013.
Thanks for any input it is much much appreciated.

Personally I love the screen of my phone but I wish it was HD like the galaxy nexus or the iPhone.
Here is an article that may help u understand the differences between super amoled vs super amoled plus.

I am running an ICS ROM with a custom kernel that has voodoo sound and color support on my NS4G. It greatly improves the sound and the colors on the screen. I have both phones and while the Nexus is nice, the ET4G is simply amazing! The speed, smoothness, battery life, camera, etc are definitely a step up on the Epic Touch. Here's a screenie of the NS4G with custom voodoo color settings. The colors are much more vibrant than on a stock setup
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium

Yes I love the voodoo sound quite a bit, it made me invest in a nice pair of headphones and its worth every penny. I actually like the stock colors just fine, I absolutely love the colors of super amoled what I don't like is the resolution. I would keep my Nexus S 4G as an MP3 player if i get an Epic Touch just cuz the sound chip with voodoo is so beast.
Thanks for the article an Super AMoled vs. Super Amoled Plus. Im gonna get to reading that, from what I understand Super Amoled + is sharper and less pixelated, that is my biggest problem with regular Amoled so that would be awesome. Those HD displays on the other carriers are so tempting, but if Super AMoled Plus fixes the pentile issues, the Epic Touch would be rocking a 4.5 inch screen exynos monster and that's just tough to beat.

I moved from the Evo3D to the E4GT. I am not looking back. I love that it has a larger, more vibrant display and that it's lighter. I DO miss the solid feel of the Evo3D, and the grippy back. Sometimes the slippery back of the E4GT makes me feel like I'm going to drop it, so I just have to remember to hold it tighter than I normally would. I know I could get a case, but that takes away from the sexiness of the device IMHO. I guess I'm not too worried about damaging it since I can get new phones anytime I want. I'd say, it's a no brainer. Go with the E4GT, you won't be disappointed.

My girlfriend and I are on a shared plan. I had been waiting on the GS2 to hit sprint ever since the phone first debuted internationally. Just recently I got her to trade her evo 4g for a Nexus.
I would agree with you about the sound DAC on the Nexus s, it's beast if you have voodoo sound. But the GS2 isn't half bad either. I stream google music every day at work and with a decent set of headphones (for reference I use altec lansing backbeat titaniums, they are out of production but pretty much the best in ear buds you can get for under $50) the sound is quite good. It doesn't get as loud as the nexus due to a weaker headphone amp, but it gets the job done. (haha I can't say enough good things about voodoo, if you turn that headphone amp all the way up with good earbuds, you could pretty much blow your eardrums...)
Also, the whole 720p screen deal is really overrated. I checked out the Galaxy Nexus at a verizon store and honestly I still prefer my ET4G. And don't even bother comparing the Evo 3d's screen the the GS2, that would be a straight up insult. After owning an ET4G for a few months, all of the HTC screens just look like garbage. I would easily sacrifice resolution for quality, and any GS2, ours included, really delivers on quality.
If you were gonna buy off contract, it doesn't really matter when you buy I suppose, but the sooner the better I suppose. By the time this phone is truly obsolete (it's hard to say when, because phone tech is really becoming more advanced overnight) I would imagine that LTE will start rolling out on sprint and you could step up to a good LTE phone.
Also, the white version hits sprint early next month. Might be worth waiting a week or two to see if the white version is your cup of tea.

Yeah Evo 3D screen had washed out colors and horrific viewing angles. People praise super lcd for color accuracy but on the evo 3D certain colors weren't very accurate. The lime green on the ANdroid Market looked awful, using my laptop as a reference. I did love it for its sharp text and resolution for video playback.
My original plan was to get an iphone 4 due to resolution while also keeping my NExus S 4G and switching back and forth periodically. And then buy the SG S III since that's gonna probably have an HD screen with Super Amoled, not to mention spec'd like crazy. But if the 4" screen of my Nexus gets on my nerves, the 3.5" on the iphone and looking at an app drawer all day would drive me crazy.
Epic Touch it is, im curious about the white one. I imagine it will look super slick. The white skyrocket is beautiful, im just worried that getting in white would be a bit girly.

Evo screen quality vs. droid/others

For all those who have the Evo now. How does the screen look, as far as resolution goes, compared to the droid's screen? I have a 3GS and my g/f has the droid and her screen blows mine away. Just wondering if the Evo's screen will look as good as the droids.
Screen
The screen looks amazing because of it's size... But it has a lower pixel density than any other phone I have tested (nexus, droid, desire, legend)... And the screen is not AMOLED so the picture is not as vibrant... It is very similar to the iPhone... Check out my youtube channel or website TeensTechReviews I will post a few videos with a comparison of all the phone screens.
it is teh awesum. I love the size, it's one of only a few bigger than my previous phone, the HTC Universal
The screen is amazing, and the size is awesome. I had an old iPhone 3G and now when I go to pick up that one, it feels like a little toy with a tiny screen. If you are upgrading from a 3GS, you won't be disappointed.
Screen size is awesome and I like it but when I hold it next to my Nexus one it is so much more vibrant than the Evo. The Evo screen looks a little washed out but not real bad. I sacrificed the more vibrant AMOLED screen to have a larger screen size and I don't regret it.
The EVO has the same screen resolution as the Droid, but stretched over a larger area. So in short, it should look just as good as the Droid, which is way better than the current iPhone.

actually, it has the same resolution as the nexus and incredible. the motorola droid has a couple extra pixels on it.
the size of the screen is nice, but compared to a nice OLED screen, it looks totally washed out. if you had a nexus in front of you to compare, you'd be sad looking at the screen on the evo, i kid you not.
honestly, if i had my druthers, i'd want a screen the size of the evo's, but OLED, or AMOLED for quality. it wouldn't hurt to have it at a higher resolution either, given the increase in real estate.
i'm not disappointed that i got the evo, but i do miss my nexus. i don't however miss the fact that TMO's coverage is the suxxorz in my neck of the woods. i have only had one dropped sprint call, in my apartment, where TMO is totally radio silent. it being a phone and all, being able to use it as such makes a big difference, lol
Lol i had a g1 and my girlfriend had the droid. screen was SO amazing on the droid, i loved just taking it from her and using it.
i have the evo now and her droid doesnt even look as good in comparison. the evo next to her screen in terms of color is mostly the same but the screen size of the evo makes the evo look SO great. the big icons, web browsing experience, its just really hot. the droid looks puny compared to it.
and the g1 and my ipod touch? forget about it...it annoys me to look at it, seriously. lmfao
I really like the Evo's screen/display. I just wish it showed up better when I'm outside. I can barely see the screen, even when the brightness is turned all the way up. Thats one thing I loved about my BB Curve. It could be a super bright day in direct sunlight, and I'd have no problem seeing the screen.

Buy a G2 or wait for the mystic Nexus S

So I sold my beloved Nexus One today. It had started to show its age.
I'm trying to decide between a G2 and the unannounced Nexus S.
Why did you opt for a G2 instead of waiting? What would you suggest?
Thanks for your help.
I would definetly go for the solid, metallic feel of the G2 rather than samsung's plasticky offering. And I must say that after having seen a super amoled screen in person that they're not all they're cracked up to be unless oversaturated color is your thing.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
BUY THE G2!
That nexus crap is a IPHONE ripoff. and samsung ripped off all their customers with the galaxy series. Its just one big SLOW crap plastic. PERIOD!
I feel special having rhcp agree with me lolz...
Note to rhcp: I assume by "nexus crap" you mean the nexus S only right? I was under the impression that the nexus one was a pretty good phone...
Just wanted to add that the G2 has a trackpad which does come in handy quite a lot for me, and don't forget the physical keyboard of course (I don't THINK the nexus S has a physical keyboard, although no one's really sure of course
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
Yes the nexus S. made by samsung!
The nexus 1 was a great phone and still is. Made by HTC!
+2
I agree. I just love the construction. Though I'm not sure how much of the keyboard I would use, I'd still like the fact that I have one.
So, I might be making my trip to the Bell Store today! How do I get this thing unlocked? Any websites you have in mind?
I got my wife the G2 after I had already purchased the Vibrant for myself. The G2 is a way better phone. While it is true that benchmarks aren't the whole story they are at least a big part of the story. Benchmarks with the G2 are better out of the box. It is just works and works fast. I am about sick and tired flashing various beta themes/roms for the Vibrant just to compensate for a crap file system and a laggy battery sucking phone. Of course I came from the MyTouch which was/is light years behind either phone.
Typical Vibrant user, "ROM x is the best ever all you have to do disable all of your running apps, wipe all of your data including SD cards, and stare at a black screen. The battery life is amazing after that. Yeah I know that I know that my internal SD card is no longer readable but ROM x is sooo fast." Well guess I am one of the those users and I am stuck with it for now. I think the best it ever ran was with the setup in my signature. Still I wish I could talk my wife out the G2 .
sold my vibrant for the g2 done. i would do that on any galaxy s or samsung s phones.
i think galazy s is pretty cool guy, he made of plastic 1ghz and doesnt benchmark anything.
best thing about the g2 is the feel, you really feel like you have 500 dollar piece of equipment in your hand. not some crappy piece of plastic.
i wouldnt hope with samsung either.
imo the only thing the g2 is missing is a tv/hdmi out.
oh god i would love an hdmi out
<--- Had an Epic4G with sprint.
It blows. Advertised having 512MB ram but your only allocated to like 300 so the phone always slowed down for any little app.
Don't get me wrong, the AMOLED screen is gorgeous (yea its over saturated) but it is also a battery killer form my experience (regardless what others say)
The cheap plastic feel the phone had was horrible, the G2 feels 10x more sturdy and its sexy.
Samsung really needs to up their phone cause the galaxy S line is garbage from my experience.
My wife runs the nexus....and me the G2.
I came from the G1.
Go with the G2!!
You won't regret it.....unless your a hopeless iPhownd myself user.....
I still never understood why Google went with Samsung this time around.
ohh come on!
g2 vs samsung nexus s!??
first thing first!
HSPA+ nexus s dont have that. supercar(g2) vs TURTLE! (nexus s) :] lol
METAL against Plastic!
g2 doesnt have front face camera, i had a mytouch 4g which prove that its NOT useful at all!
physical keyboard! ahh samsung only swype.
trackpad ohh damn no trackpad for nexus s!
g2 OWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
only thing holding me back from getting a nexus s is the lack of hspa+
i miss amoled screens

You miss crappy displays? I'm sorry... but for someone with great eyesight, the look of amoled screens is terrible. They have these pixels that are spaced out very strangely giving the screen this pixelated diagonal look.

LOL @ all the fanboys....
The G2 is a great phone. It does everything I need, and its maybe 4x the speed of my old G1. 3D graphics are amazing, I was playing quake 3 with someone else today on my school network and my G2 was constantly going 55-60 frames per second while his DROID was at 20. The keyboard is amazing and the build quality is great, albeit it does come at a price: ITS HEAVY!!!! I alaways notice it in my pocket and its tiresome holing it up for a long call or something. That said, it has the best CPU available on the market and everything is smooth as butter.
The Nexus S on the other hand, will be much lighter and will come with stock android, and I don't think google will let them use their ****ty file system on such a high profile device. It will be lighyears faster than the vibrant. The SAMOLED screens are amazing; it is saturated, that's my only complaint, but the screen on my uncle's vibrant is really good. The colors are great, contrast is great, and have you seen the cool shutdown effect from gingerbread? Guess what, it will only work with SAMOLED displays. Why? Because of the way that the screens display black; it actually turns the pixels off. It will be bleeding edge and I really believe the build quality will be wayyy better than the vibrants. Just look at the design, the curves on the the S just screen sex to me.
Final call? It's you choice. The G2 is amazing and will not let you down, but don't let samsungs past mistakes stop you from considering the nexus S. Both are stock android, so luckily OS isn't a desiding factor. I guess the biggest question is, do you prefer a keyboard or a slim device?

Photon switchers: a few questions

Did anyone here come from the Photon?
I am hesitant to switch because I am wondering if the speaker is as good, and if the call quality is as good. Also it seems like the epic touch is a lot bigger than the Photon.
Any thoughts from previous MoPhos?

So far the call quality has been good. The speaker might not be quite as loud but its good. It is bigger but much lighter than the Photon. The Photon had a good camera but this camera is amazing. I'm glad I switched. Its so fast...no lag.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA Premium App
I did. The speaker on this epic is not a high quality if the Photon your sure. Now it isn't terrible but its a notable difference.
Call quality is more closer. I can hear great. But won't beat the Photon with the three mics active noise canceling. Reception is the same, but stronger 3g data on this epic for me.
Go ahead and switch. All the pluses of having this phone you won't look back.

Is the speaker blocked or muffled if the phone is sitting on a table?
Also do you notice a warm tint like the nexus had?
Had the Photon for 30 days, and got the Epic 4G Touch yesterday. Call quality is very nearly as good. Signal strength is equal. Overall the Epic is a way better device IMO, the screen is about way way better than the Photon and the Camera is also substantially better. I have absolutely no regrets about switching from the Photon to the Epic Touch

The tint is adjustable of warm, cool, or normal.
The speaker is not as good as the Photon. My Photon's speaker never felt strain but sometimes the Epic Touch does.
My Photon's radio reception is much better than the Epic Touch. I was at my sister's home and making perfect calls with my Photon but the Epic Touch was roaming.
If I don't watch so much videos on my phone I would have kept my Photon.
After having a MoPho for about a month and a half, I love the MoPho. That said, I really, really like the Sammy too. The screen is SO much better than the MoPho and it is hands down much faster. The bootup on the Sammy is literally less than half the time of the MoPho and all comparisons whether by quandrant, linpack, surfing, playing games etc... the Sammy is noticeably faster.
The things I miss most are the kickstand, the speaker and the shape. The Sammy is thin and big. A bit bulky and hard to get used to coming from the MoPho. The Sammy is solid though, like the MoPho. I think getting a case of some sort will definitely be needed to prevent from dropping and maybe even one with a kickstand.
The speaker quality is good. Like above, I have heard the speaker strain here and there where I never heard it on the MoPho. Overall quality is good though. Even sounds good laying on table, or in hand.
Overall I think it is a good choice for now. I started with a 3vo3d, then moved to MoPho, had that for a while and am now trying out the Sammy. All have had they're pros and cons with my favorite thus far being the MoPho, only becuase thats what I had the longest. That said, the MoPho has a couple little bugs. Apps causing random reboots and two of my faves I know of wouldn't even work. The silent call issue was a problem but that got fixed.
In conclusion I am extremely happy with the Sammy for now. The screen is fantastic, the phone is a speed demon, audio is good, wifi is good, 4g seems to be pretty good, havent really had any issues with it yet but, I've only had it for a day. I do miss the MoPho, but it seems to be easing up as this thing just amazes me more and more. Will see how it goes. My last experience with Sammy was with the Moment and I'm sure there are a few of you out there that know exactly what I mean by that.
Hope this helps any on the fence.
Lots of useful information here, thanks.
Just swapped a couple of minutes ago from the Photon...My first impression is that the screen is gorgeous compared to the Photon. I do miss the qhd resolution however. The Photon was fast but the Eptouch is faster. Typing is easier. Touchgiz 4.0 like the new Motorola User Interface ha ha is less obtrusive than previous versions . Haven't benchmarked yet but you can look at everyone else's videos for that. Another thing that brought me over was the camera and video recording ..The Photons cam was ok, but Sammys cameras are the best imo other than Nokias . Let's face it, when was the last time you saw a cdma Nokias?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium App
I just handled an Epic Touch for about 20 minutes - my first reaction is that it might be too big for me, and the photon felt more responsive when I was doing the same tasks side by side. Also on 4 g the photon consistently load pages faster. I'll have to try another Epic Touch when I have time and test it again.
I just exchanged my evo 3d for s2. absolutely love it. The screen is just amazing and I am getting better out of the box results than my rooted&rom'ed evo 3d. The loud speaker is louder than evo 3d. and the battery last longer.
Yeah the 3d does not compare to either of these phones in my opinion. ( Had one and sold it)

HTC evo 4g lte vs GS2 e4gt

This is not a real review just an honest one from a real person cause i feel most of the time these phone makers pay these companies to make the phones just seem better during reviews like when iphones always get the better reviews on every much better android phone its only what i and 7 of my friends think that jumped boat from the gs2 e4gt feel about the new evo and i don't expect anyone but the gs2 e4gt owners to understand this:
Screen:
*CONS-I really like both of these phones but when i got my evo yesterday and compared it to my gs2 on youtube videos and pics i could not help but to notice that the gs2 still has much better colors and just looks better period i still like the evo screen until i see them side by side then the evo looks as if its color has been washed or faded.in my option the gs2 e4gt wins hands down but i still like the evo,i tried different brightnesses as well but still so so.
*PROS-The evo has a much sharper picture due to being HD and all but not always noticeable.
Camera:
*CONS-i have seen so many reviews and commercials on how this camera is so great not the case im not trying to be the one to spoil this but if you came from the gs2 e4gt you would notice it right away,i used my micro sd from my last phone and seen some of my older pics from the gs2 e4gt and they look amazing and then i took at least 20 pics with all types of high settings and lighting and these pics are grainy and just not as good when compared hands down.
*PROS-This camera i has pretty good quality for the speed it takes the photos in.
Overall Phone ui:
*CONS-None so far
*PROS-The ui is clean and fluid much more than the gs2 e4gt because it was real zippy but never fluid so the evo wins this.
Dude Evo LTE beats the GS2 in every department. Your also comparing last years flagship phone to a 2012 flagship phone. The only con I'd say would be the bootloader.
e4gt bettar
Every phones better in its own ways.. Also this depends on each person preferences..
Even flip phones can be better lol.. You can throw one of them damn things against a wall and get a chip or two.. You'd need an expensive case on ours to not shatter the screen or something.

I think the SGS2 still looks better than the Evo. And saturated colors on the E4GT are much more enjoyable to me. From everything I have seen comparing the screen of the Evo to the int'l SGS2 and the SGS3, I can say I much prefer saturation over "accurate colors". The SGS3 screen also looks sharper than the Evo's. Not to mention, holding the E4GT at a normal distance still leaves me unable to see pixels. Until I hold it closer, like 6 inches away, I can't see them.
You really can't say the Evo beats the SGS2 in every department. Your grammar doesn't lend any credibility to your statement either.
And for last year's flagship, the E4GT is still an amazing phone. The only ones that "beat" it are the One X and the SGS3, and they have yet to be widespread. I personally can't wait for the SGS3. The screen looks amazing, and that Exynos shreds everything in its path. Hopefully Sprint or AT&T come out with a sexier version.
I think you should get a replacement for your new EVO, your screen is defective. I have a E4GT and an iPhone 4s, buddy just got a HTC One X...You can't even put them in the same ball park. Seriously it looks like those paint on displays they put on phones at radio shack. Everything is so bright, crisp and clear it almost looks like the icons are above the glass. Best display I have ever seen on a phone hands down and pretty much every Android or technology review site agree (pocketnow Engadget slashvear theverge ect ect). S4 is vastly superior soc, VASTLY. Im sorry Im not trying to be a jerk but you might be a fanboy if...you get the rest.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
If this is only about specs, then the new Evo definitely has our E4GT beat. Then again, what do you expect? Our Phone is significantly older than the new Evo. If the Evo wasn't beating old tech from last year, that'd be cause for serious concern.
My Wife Got her Evo in yesterday. I like it. I specifically like the screen size and that it is specifically a HD Screen.
Personally though, I would rather Touchwiz over Sense any day. For how lightweight the new sense is, I noticed a small amount of lag on occasion. It wasn't a significant issue, but enough to notice and think "I guess it is not as fast as they make it sound."
My biggest gripe though has to be that the USB/Charging port is on the wrong side if you are to using the kick stand! What were they thinking?
Besides that I really like how it feels in the hand and it seems significantly easier for me to type with. Although if it were dropped I definitely foresee dinging the nice metal that lines the perimeter.
That's just my initial impressions from playing with it for about an hour.
The kickstand can support the phone on either side in portrait mode. Flip it over.
I like this new evo but after coming from the gs2 i feel like my new evos screen has no soul and colors look so blan, someone would have to pay me to say this screen is better than the gs2 screen.

I couldn't find the evo LTE, but I saw the lg nitro HD with the IPS screen yesterday. The screen is nice. The pre loaded HD video content was unreal. Looked so good it looked fake, too good to be true. You can see the detail on the smallest of objects. But outside of that, it really lacks contrast and blacks. Overall makes the screen have no advantage over samoled.
How often are you going to watch highly optimized ultra HD content?

You really can't say the Evo beats the SGS2 in every department. Your grammar doesn't lend any credibility to your statement either.
And for last year's flagship, the E4GT is still an amazing phone. The only ones that "beat" it are the One X and the SGS3, and they have yet to be widespread. I personally can't wait for the SGS3. The screen looks amazing, and that Exynos shreds everything in its path. Hopefully Sprint or AT&T come out with a sexier version.

OK thanks I'll work on my grammar to add more credibility to my point. I didn't think we still had Grammar Nazis on XDA. The first thing I noticed when I first saw the one X was how much sharper the screen looks, my GN beats the ET4g screen hands down also. These phones made me realize how low resolution the Epic Touch screen really is. Also, you CAN still see the difference with the phones two feet from your face, its that obvious. I'm not talking about looking for pixels with a magnifying glass.
Oh and by the way, since I had my replacement phone for the past three months it already has discoloration where the status bar is. I took special care because the last phone had screen burn in as well. That doesn't sound like a superior screen to me. I was quite disappointed in that.
I do agree the S3 will kill the Evo LTE once its released.

My friend has a One X, and yes the One X screen kills the ET4G. You cant hold both phones side by side and seriously tell me the Evo One will not have a better screen over the Epic Touch.
I haven't seen any lag either, trust me I'm one to notice lag and imperfections. I ditched the 3D because of the crooked screen and photon because of the lag. Y'all need to get your head out of your asses.
I took a Gnex and compared my epic to it, not much screen difference I liked my screen better even with brightness up on the nexus. However the One X just murdered my screen hands down, made me wanna switch to AT&T
Truthfully I even found at times my photon killed my epic's screen, I miss pentile and my photon. I couldn't see the pixels unless I facepalmed my phone lol
That being said everyone sees colours differently so its all in the eye of the beholder.
If you look at the galaxy s vs the s2,that was a huge generational leap. Going from the s2 to the evo or s3 will be much more incremental in my opinion.
After seeing what 2012 will hold for new high end phones I bought this epic touch off contract. I came from an og epic and this thing has a significantly better screen, is literally half as thick, WAY faster ui, much improved camera, etc. I just don't see this year's phones as killing the epic touch.
This way, when the next nexus or whatever killer phone comes out I'll be off contract and ready to go.

[Sprint] - Time for upgrade. GSIII a worthy upgrade? Or hold off...

I am due for an upgrade, now. I am coming from an OG EVO. I have not been keeping up with phones lately. Obviously this is a GSIII sub forum, so I am expecting biased answers. I asked a few other places as well.
Check out a couple of in depth reviews.
If your going Android. (which i presume is why you asked) you will not find a better device. The only one that comes close would be the HTC ONE X, But no expandable memory, removeable battery, etc.

Depends on your preferences... the two obvious choices would be the GSIII or Evo 4g Lte...
I used the Evo for a few days before getting the GSIII and the deciding factor was pretty much the poor multi tasking and the lack of a removable battery on the Evo. It does boast a superior display imo and a slightly better camera. I find I'm getting the same battery life on my GSIII probably a little more. I would suggest going to a store and use both for a few minutes, you should be somewhat familiar with HTC sense but Touchwiz isn't that horrible.

I thought the Galaxy line was notorious for having AWESOME screens. You're telling me that the EVO LTE's LCD2 is actually slightly better?
How do these screens compare to the Iphone 4s?
I don't own a GSIII..I'm really just here to see how LTE is looking for GSIII users in Dallas. I own a EVO LTE and here's what I got for ya
iphony is right . Multitasking is a little off...meaning, you go from the browser to the music app and the music app reloads. Go back to the browser and the browser reloads. Kinda annoying. The update for the phone kinda fixed it but not really.
Dev scene isn't as great so you're really gonna have to be satisfied for how the phone is right off the ****. The devs have managed to fix the multitasking issue but I don't know to what extent. I'm still on stock and I'm happy with it.
The screen is pretty damn sweet. I came from an iPhone 4S and I haven't really noticed a difference. Still seems like a retina display to me, just a bigger screen.
The big plus for me is the beats audio EQ...because that EQ plus switching the beats audio mode to urBeats puts the audio quality on par with the iPhone. Audio sounds real good.
Other than those things...you'll probably get the same experience. It all comes down to the little things the phones do that you like- so you're really just gonna have to play with both them.

I saw you posted this a minute or so before mine so I'll just repeat what I wrote..
going from the 4s to the EVO...it felt exactly the same. It seems just like the retina display..the only difference I can see with my eye is screen size. So it's pretty much a bigger iPhone 4s screen. It's gorgeous. Unfortunately I have my phone in an otterbox so the quality is degraded
And another thing about the screens...
The 4s, idk what it uses for its screen, but you don't need a screen protector. There is 0 smudging...it's like it cleans itself or something. The EVO 4G LTE is not like that. idk about the GSIII...I've yet to get my hands on one.

The screens are both great, the screen on the evo just stands out more to me, while the GSIII has a more natural looking colors. That being said I went with the GSIII because it's a better overall phone and I tend to prefer Samsung phones, but a few things on the Evo did make it a hard decision.

The S III uses a pentile display, meaning images aren't as sharp as the Evo's and you'll see some pixelation or the "pentile effect" if you have good eyes. The E4GLE's display has warmer and more "realistic" colors than the S III's "saturated" and cooler colors. It's also a little sharper and you can't see the pixels, or at least I couldn't. I also found that the S III's screen was a lot dimmer in sunlight than the Evo's.
That said, I still stuck with my S III because of the massive development that will happen in the coming months.
As for the iPhone comparison you would have to get that from someone else, not my cup of tea.

The EVO LTE screen is sharper but the GS3 has all the benefits of amoled displays (darker blacks, beautiful colors). The EVO LTE is also going to be hard to put custom software (roms) on because it's bootloader is locked and any exploits are patched.

Love my gs3...but screens...lmao...
LCD kicks any version of amoleds ass all day long.
You can make the "oooh but the blacks are so much better ...." well that's great but everything else is garbage.
Don't get me wrong performance wise the gs3 is full of win, and fanboys will start whining how they like the galaxy screens, but there's not even a fair comparison as the lcd2 is far superior to any Samsung screen.
The fact of the matter is the htc rezound STILL has the best screen of any of any phone on the market. Slcd2 screen of the 1x comes close.
Sammy is so far behind in screen technology its ... strange.
BUT I will say the gs3 is a different and refined version of the samoled screens and its tolerable.
People who say the gs3 screen is better don't have a clue, and obviously its merely a personal preference, and not based on facts.
S-amoled(yes even pluss) is VERY saturated, whites are just omg horrible.
Also this gives the false pretense of how your images are from the camera.( which btw is neck and neck with one x)
BUT the pros out weigh the cons and the gs3 IMO is the best phone on the market.
If htc ups the aentie , which it appears they might I will probably go back.
But .... its iffy.
No removable battery
No removable storage...
Deal breaker for me
I really like having tons of development, and everyone here is pretty cool. Although I'm sure ill be called a troll for my truth about the screen FACTS. RRAAWWWRRRR!!!!

Much to the dismay of the salesperson I spent literally two hours playing with the Evo 4G and the SGS3 side-by-side at the local Sprint store a week or so ago, and this after reading every review and comparison I could find. Choosing between the two was VERY tough IMO. I ultimately went with the SGS3 and couldn't be happier.
Re; the screen being better on one versus the other... I think it largely comes down to your eyes. I've personally always loved the AMOLED screens, exaggerated colors and all, but my eyes aren't what they used to be so for me that brightness and saturation is actually a big plus. When I compared the two phones side-by-side I frankly couldn't tell the difference for the most part. It seemed like in some apps one would be a little better, and in some it was the other way around. Also, the whole pentile thing with the SGS3- again, my eyes being what they are, I can't resolve the pixels at all anymore no matter how much I squint, so for me that's a complete non-factor.
In terms of performance, all I know for sure is that the SGS3 is without question the smoothest experience I've ever had on any Android phone. The HTC seemed perfectly comparable though. I've seen various benchmarks that put one on top of the other (and then other benchmarks that reverse things) so, to me, you're probably talking about a relative wash here.
Build quality and feel.. .this one is weird because I've seen a few people saying the SGS3 feels cheap and not made well and that doesn't match my opinion at all. Yes, the chassis is plastic, but it feels like quality to me. There's definitely no bowing or creaking or any of that stuff. It feels solid and well-made to me for sure. Oh, and FYI, mine has been dropped from roughly 4 feet on a kitchen floor already with no ill effect, and no case or anything, so at least to a fist approximation it's sturdy (hopefully I don't test it any more than that! LOL) The HTC also feels like a quality device. Again, to my sense I'd call it a wash. The SGS3 I believe is a little thinner and lighter, which I sometimes find myself wishing it weren't, but most of the time not. The HTC does have that little kickstand, which is a nice plus, but come on, I don't know too many people that would consider that a deciding factor either way.
I like having the replaceable batter for sure, that's always a nice thing. Historically I've used extended batteries in my phone so a replaceable battery is required, but I'll tell you, my SGS3 has so far given me stellar battery life and it doesn't seem necessary. Still, nice to have the option. Similarly, being able to swap in a bigger SD card is nice too (although I have everything I can imagine ever wanting on my phone and it's only half-filling my 32Gb card so I'm probably done there... if the 32Gb model had been available at the time I would have gotten that and just not used a card frankly).
Samsung has also, in my opinion, done a good job augmenting Android without wrecking it. TouchWiz isn't terrible, but I don't run it myself... but aside from the launcher, some of the added features they've given us are nice. Sure, some are a bit gimmicky, and some aren't winners, but there's more good than bad, and they've done it without diverging immensely from stock Android. I say kudos for Samsung this time around, I think they nailed it and haven't gone too far either way. Some will still prefer a stock ICS experience of course, and I hear ya on that, I was running Cyanogen on my Epic before I got my SGS3, but in this case I don't at all mind and in fact LIKE the changes.
One other consideration is that historically Samsung has been pretty slow getting Android updates out to us (partly them, partly carriers fault). We don't know if that will be the case this time around, although I think it's worth noting that we've had already two OTA updates on Sprint so far I believe. Yes, minor updates, but still, that's in only a few weeks' time. I think this bodes well that Samsung may be set to do a much better job getting us our updates faster than in the past. Remember, they managed a nearly simultaneous multi-carrier release for the first time and have a top seller on their hands, I suspect they may not want to ruin that momentum getting us Jelly Bean at a minimum sooner than later. HTC, on the other hand, has historically been good with updates, better than Samsung certainly, so that's something to consider.
I think the bottom line, what I concluded in the store that day anyway, was that I was probably going to be very happy no matter which I chose. They're both great devices. Is the SGS3 worthy? Abso-fraggin'-lutely! Is there a better choice? Possibly, but it's a tough, tough call IMO.

But this is their first flagship that has the same hardware and build across all US carriers. And they also threw in 2GB to "future proof" it for Jelly Bean, so Samsung is definitely getting serious.

The Amoled of this phone is a step back from the Super Amoled Plus which I believe was a choice by Samsung made for ease of manufacture. I read something along those lines. Plus, on the home screen espescially, the screen if dimmer than what Galaxy line users are used to. The European version already got an update to address this issue, who knows when it will arrive over here. The dimness issue is fine for browsers and other applications that you are able to set individually. Of course I can't find it now, but there is a tips and tricks thread that lists it. I love this phone but I won't lie, it is fragile. Already dropped mine just 2 1/2 feet and the screen shattered to hell. I was on my way to buy a cover when it happened. Plastic bezel recessed below screen level offering no protection at all unlike my old Vibrant. That phone could take a tumble. Definitely worth to buy, but select you cover in advance!!!
I like my GS3 so far its a smooth phone! But My reception just flat out sux and I live right in the middle of dallas! There is a few bugs like the brightness sliding thing with the pull down and worst of all when im on google and I go to type in a search and the predictive searches show up below, it will let me touch it but it wont load! I HATE THAT!!! It was either this phone now or wait another 6 months! Soooo...
I just wanna know when we step into the present and recieve LTE like we are paying for!

I shall attempt to be polite.. but it's not an opinion, regarding brightness. It is objective. Yes you may prefer an AMOLED Screen. But the fact is, it's much, much dimmer. Compare EVO or HOX by S III Screen. S III is half as bright. Then of course PenTile on S III is blurry. And Black crush was visible to me in 5 seconds...all details of gray are lost. THen there are the tints, ink marks, etc. But again the worst thing is how DIM it is. S III is half as bright as a droid. Pathetic!
I am going to use my S III for 14 days. I don't think I will be keeping it though. For me anyway, AMOLED is just crap. And the bright colors? I'm sure they could do that with a filter on LCD too. It's a gimmick. Oh gee, Sammy cranked saturation. They mucked with the color table. Gee how clever Samsung. Anyone could do that. It causes Black Crush and colors are simply not accurate.
Not impressed. At all. S III Screen:: SUCKS.
So return it then, nobody is gonna line up behind you and do the same.
