Hey all,
I watched all the videos/read all the reviews, and I couldn't find my answer.
We know that the "What's new" feed in both People and Pictures aggregates facebook stuff, but what about Facebook Inbox? What about notifications?
Could some one enligthen me?
Thanks!
Id say therell be a Facebook app for that
I like the inbox idea. That would be useful. But the rumour was that FB was developing 'Project Titan' a mail app to become more email like, so perhaps integration would come when FB updates this.
As an aside, I know MS has a 5% stake in FB, but too much integration might be too much if another Social Network becomes popular quickly (akin to FB killing My Space).
Somehow I don't see that happening, Facebook is here to stay,Myspace was too late to change the game when FB came along. FB is now akin to Google in the sense its here to stay or at least imo.
or maybe FB will be integrate directly in WM7...

??? It is integrated into WP7 however not all of the Facebook features fit into the WP7 model. For those things, you'll have to jump into a facebook app. Maybe they'll be able to integrate with the various hubs (namely people) so that you could, for example, hit a button to send a FB message to someone and it would open the facebook app directly to do that?

Actually, I can see the FB inbox happening (has another tile with, kinda like Gmail, Outlook and WL Mail). As for notifications, they could drop from the top, like for Messaging...
What about Facebook friends requests ? I don't know how it would fit into WP7 model, i guess the FB app will be needed at some point
To have all the options of FB you'd have to use app anyway..
That's why I hate all those default integrations.
Hello, Newbie to Android world here - receiving my HTC Desire, hopefully, next week.
Just wanted to share some information regarding an application called "LiveProfile" which will soon be released that incorporates BBM for Androids, if im not mistaken.
Anyone heard of it?
Just looked it up and from what I can see its a replacement for bbm. It will work across iPhone, blackberry and android. Basically MSN messenger for phones.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I've been using a BlackBerry for practically 2 years now and I have to say perhaps the only application that has the BB stand out among its rivals is the BlackBerry Messenger - now with LiveProfile, I'm very excited for the upcoming release of this app.
What's the advantage of this over WhatsApp or PingChat? Those are both multi-platform already, and with WhatsApp there's no need for a user name as it uses your phone number, so anyone in your contacts with the application is automatically in your friend list.
Yeah, why another one? ... PingChat is OK.
I know, competition is good.
But for this kind of app, I just want ONE ...
It seems impossible.
Wait until someone created multi of multi IM of multi IM ...
PingChat is a good one.
MJwitter: well, quite frankly, i believe there is one prime advantage over iphone's Whatsapp in terms of privacy. With "whatsapp" you do not necessarily have to have the contact on your list, just as long as he has your number he is able to send you msgs - which a lot of people would find annoying (you could probably ignore them, im not sure, but its a terrible feature initially)
gogol + lukehluke: i have never heard of ping chat before. i'll have to google it. However, as i have mentioned earlier i believe this application is intended to merge bbm, whatsapp and so on all under one roof - again I am uncertain of this information; however, hopefully this turns out to be the advantage of LiveProfile.
Nonetheless, thank you for sharing that information.
I just checked it out; however it seems to display an error when i clicked on "Join Now." Is this application not yet released?
there are quite a few BBM replacements available. They will never connect to BBM Contacts but provide the same functionality.
1. PingChat
2. Cnectd
3. LucidMessenger
4. Pmessenger
those are all i know of atm.
I'll try ping chat on HTC, just as soon as I get it by next week.
I heard about Pmessenger, but the reviews weren't very good.
Is WhatsApp ever coning out for android?, ive tried to convert a few people over to ping chat but they all use whatsapp
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I'm confused. Help me. What is the differences between pingchat, whatsapp and IM messenger such ebuddy, fringe, and nimbuzz?
LOL try to be patient, my friend.
Ive been trying to do that for the past 24 hrs too. fortunately, a few ppl installed it.
however, they dont need to "convert" to pingchat, ask them to install it and they could use both ;D

Pingchat and Whatsapp? call themselves 'SMS Replacement' apps. Wherein they act like BBM so you can send a message whether a person is online or offline. These apps can only be used between their respective clients i.e. Pingchat-to-Pingchat, Whatsapp?-to-Whatsapp?
IM clients connect through AIM, MSN, Facebook &c.
Whatsapp Beta works. Google up Whatsapp android beta and youll find a download link on a facebook page. Install it and then you may get authorization error just wait like 1 day and try again and it will work. Been working well cant find any bugs with it yet.
I tried what you said but only info seems to say the beta is only available for people living in san fansisco and whatsapp put the app on your phone from there office?, cant seem to find a download link or apk file, if you have a link can you post it or reply to me with a pm to the link please, thanks.

It installs fine but doesnt seem to work as you need to register to be a beta tester.

yea like i said install it it will fail just wait and try again tommorow and it will start working. lots of people have reported success after waiting a while
Cool, i'll update in a day or 2 if its working, did you email them to request to be a beta tester or just try it after a few days and it worked without emailing them?

Cool, its started working.
Ok, my quick review - pingchat vs whatsapp
Its alot faster than pingchat in terms of messages being delivered, sometimes pingchat lags a very long time and also pingtchat soelmetimes doesnt give notifications unless you open the app, so whatsapp wins on those two.
But pingchat has a MUCH better look and feet to it, and it works on phone numbers & ID's so you can use either, but whatsapp only works over phone numbers, so unless i have the persons phone number i cant message them on whatsapp, but on pingchat you can just use there id and dont need there phone number so pingchat wins on that.
So both have goods & bads, ping chat is free though which is a plus, if you check in the account info in the whatsapp beta, it says it expires in November 2010, so i asume thats when it goes live in the android marketplace, it also has an upgrade option so it will definatly be a paid app when its released and have a limeted free use period
More people use whatsapp so its better "at the moment", but pingchat has a much better feel to it, so hopfully more people start using pingchat.

I know there's already a IM+ thread but by posting there some people might miss the information.
v1.4 has been submitted to Microsoft and should hit very soon. It adds the following features:
- Significantly improved contact list scrolling and overall application performance
- Push-to-Email option allows incoming messages to be forwarded to your email
- Autoreply feature will instantly notify your contacts that your are in Push mode
- ICQ / AIM / AOL / iChat group chats
- ICQ contacts can now be added into your AOL/AIM/iChat contact lists and vice versa
- VKontakte and Yandex IM services are now supported
However Microsoft has requested the removal of MSN/WLM from the app .
I know it will be redundant with Mango but fact of the matter is Mango hasn't been released yet so that's really ridiculous.
So there's your Sophie's choice: update to v1.4 to get the new features or decline the update to keep MSN/WLM.
Info taken from IM+ facebook page.
Or Mango is really close (;

Well even if that was the case that doesn't make right for 2 reasons:
1) Mango will come after the IM+ update in any case and even if Mango was released tonight some people might have to wait for one or two months to get. In the meantime, being able to use MSN/WLM on IM+ would be fair.
2) What about consumer's choice? It's like Google banning you from using any RSS reader because they already offer you Google Reader. That's really ridiculous.
Yeah, I agree with you.
Still, it's your choice to update or not. Don't update if you really need it.
As long as I can continue to Skype, all is good. Hopefully it'll be a lot faster. Thanks for the info.

Can someone confirm that WLM still works in the new version 1.4 is you are already signed up for Windows Live in the APP??
Just got the update, there is AOL/AIM/ICQ and iChat group support, though WLM is no longer available.
I'm only using WLM for facebook chat because its better than the web fb chat, and since most of my contacts in WLM doesn't go online too often, I can hold off until mango release.
Someone on a thread said you don't lose WLM if you were already signed in in v1.3, can anyone confirm this?
Sent from my Samsung Omnia 7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Instead of adding new features they should fix the abysmal skype performance (connecting and background connect time). The way IM+ works is near useless at this time.

If you visit IM+'s facebook page, it says there that if you still want to use WLM on IM+ then do not update to 1.4.
Although I was with 1.2 did not receive any 1.3 update so not sure if WLM was in 1.3, but I can confirm that I had WLM in 1.2 and jumped to 1.4, and WLM account is no longer there, and contacts aren't showing up.

i am on Mango and also on IM+ 1.4 AND I HAVE msn/WLM contacts shown there...
That's odd... I don't get it.

Just visited and realized the rendering at the twitter mobile site is bad again. Anyone with the same experience or just me?

It was on me a few days ago, it was living in the 90's lol.
Cant believe I used the mobile twitter just to see pictures, until I bought Carbon.
Also I wonder if twitter has a touch friendly website.
I wonder when Twitter will release a decent app for Windows Phone. iOS and Android users have push and the most basic and important features. Us WP7 people don't even have a live tile or notifications. It's the official Twitter App. They should have some respect for us the users.

I agree with this, although Microsoft and Twitter (and also Facebook) should all do something.
The OS itself doesn't do native push notifications with facebook and twitter, with live tiles, these are just display feeds that refreshes about say 30minutes to 1hour.
Twitter does have an official app for WP7, but its laggy and feels like its using a lot of memory.
Facebook doesn't have an official app but the one from Microsoft is cool, they still should consider improving the app (like remove game requests and like comments) as a 3rd party application and leave the basic functions to the OS.
Back to topic, the twitter mobile site doesn't like IE9 very well.
Obviously none of you guys have tried the recent update to Rowi Twitter client. At the moment they update notifications every 2 or 3 mins & are going to bring instant updates in the near future. The app. feels almost native as its so fast & buttery smooth. It has all the functions I need in a Twitter client. It is also going to sync with Metrotwit desktop client in the very near future as well as add more features. If you haven't yet tried it I can recommend it & a free trial version is available on the Marketplace.

I think most people are kinda miffed that it's the official apps that are lacking. Sure third party solutions are good and currently on WP7 clearly superior to the official ones (personally use mehdoh).
But twitter and facebook half arsing their apps just makes them seem to not to care.
They should know good apps are part of a good OS experience

Some examples:
4th & Mayor > foursquare
YouTube Pro > YouTube (the microsoft app which is just a shortcut to the website)
Although I do like having the MSN emoticons and emojis integrated in Windows Phone.
Hello,
What do think about them? I feel they are almost the same... can I disable talk and keep only messenger? Have any one tried that?

I wish G+ messenger had the same ICS style UI as GTalk . But on G+ you can text pics and use hangouts. The only thing I don't like about G+ messenger is there is no led notification which GTalk has.

I don't see why Google doesn't just unify all of its messaging services (Google voice/talk and g+ messenger) into one service. Hopefully that's where it's heading.

I've been talking about this with my friends for the longest time. The fact that GTalk can't send files is a kind of a huge issue for me as other wise its a great service. What I would love to see Google do is take a kind of Apple approach to it.. One messaging app that can text from your phones number or your Google voice number as you so designate, and, if the person your messaging is likewise using an Android 4.0.x and above platform, it would automatically send via data with higher limits to what you could send as opposed to text, and it would link to video calls and hangouts and such like GTalk and Messenger, can send files other than pictures.
Basically, one unified messenger to rule them all. I am not a huge apple fan, but I like the concept of iMessage and I know that if El Goog took the time to make it so, they could unify their services into one glorious messaging platform.

Unfortunately they are very different. Messenger is mobile only and requires the user have the G+ app but it does offer more features. GTalk allows you to message anyone on an Android or through the web on Gmail or G+. They really need to merge these messaging services into one as it is very confusing.

Google just bought Meebo so I would assume we will see some improvements in this area later this year or early next year at the latest. They have to know their current implementation is not very good.
I'm confused. The GTalk and GChat programs on a PC have been able to send files for years. And on the phone neither GTalk or G+ Messenger can send files, so I'm not sure where that comparison came from.
To share large files (or 300 photos) just toss them on Google Drive or Dropbox. I haven't checked, but there's also probably an app to take advantage of Wifi-Direct to "beam" it locally.
Also, G+ messenger doesn't have a standalone PC application. That is no good for unifying. I use the PC app at home/work, and phone app elsewhere. Having to keep your browser open to chat is a real nuisance IMHO.

However the GTalk client on Android does not allow for sending any files whatsoever. And while yes you could use drop box or drive or others as a workaround, what I'm saying is that including that support on the Android Platform app would be amazing. And a huge incentive to use it over regular texting.

Thanks. That would be nice to get this some traction. There were actually already some articles pointing out the issue but those faded away without any impact.
Nevertheless - it can't be ruled out that google is already working on this (*fingers crossed*)
I prefer Gtalk being left alone. Also I don't know why but Google keeps adding random people to my g+ messenger contact list. They are not on my circles either.

maybe you have added them as following? Had same problem but then I went to chat -> privacy settings and selected "my circles" and in g+ settings I selected only a few close circles as "my circles" and actually the list is waaay shorter (and is basically the same as in gtalk).
