[Q] MSN Video chat for Android? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just installed Skype v2.1 and I'd like to mention that it had no video call option. I'm running AOSP cm7.0.3.1 just in case if anyone was curious. I know I can use yahoo messenger with the video plugin to chat from my evo 4g to a PC which is my main concern, but what I am truly looking for is to find a way to use my evo 4g from obviously wherever Im at at the moment to chat with someone at home on their PC through MSN. I have searched Google, and xda without a solution. Just trying this out for dumb luck if anyone is able to help. Thanks in advance. A solution for either one would be great. My only option is yahoo messenger which I'm trying to stay away from since every one of my video call contacts use MSN.

Try Reelportal.

[Q] Why Wont Fring or Qik work?

Ok, I am sorry if this is a re-post, in the wrong area, etc. If so, plz delete.
I'm fed up. The gf and i have been trying for 2 hours to get Fring or Qik to work. She has an Epic and I have the Evo. I downloaded the update for Qik and she got the update for the epic, but it just sits there saying "connecting." So we move on to Fring. Set it up, do a test call.... and What am i missing? It does not give the option of doing a vid chat call at all to her #. Same issue for her, she cannot make any. DO we need to make an SIP (btw, what is that and how do i make it)
Sorry for being a total n00b but her and i cannot even come close to figuring it out and we were really hoping to get that working.
Are there any how-tos to get either working? Any other, more straight forward vid chat apps that are more user friendly?
Thnx in advance,
Carl & Athena
Hmm, me and my wife both have Evo's, and we have never had an issue video chatting with Qik.
How are you trying to connect to each other on Qik? Qik username, or phone number?

I have no real idea how to use it, maybe that is the issue.
lol
What we do (and this could be very wrong) is we both sign into Qik and then it pulls up the contacts and her name (i dont see anything about her username, however (which may be the issue)) and number. Am i supposed to add her user name? if so, how?
Try just typing her Qik Username in the "Search/Call" section and hit the call button next to it.
Make sure she has Qik opened and is signed in just to help make sure everything is setup right. Also, have her do the same thing with your username.
Could be due to the epic 4g's upload bug.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
thanks! i will try that stuff.
How do u get fring to work?

[Q] Best / Fav PC txting Apps?

Anyone have experience with a good app for texting from phone using the PC?
I've tried a few apps but cant seem to find a decent/stable one. I'd prefer something that has an independent desktop app unlike MightyText - just allows for so much more usability.
SMS2PC seems nice, when I can get it to work. Lately I havent been able to get it to work.
Are you looking to completely monitor you incoming texts overall or are you just looking to be able to have individual conversations with someone?
If I'm just looking to be able to text message someone I just use a messaging client like AIM or yahoo. I've used Mighty Text when the sms feature on my phone was screwed up. It worked ok for what I needed but I wasn't impressed with it overall.

[Q] Texting Over Wi-Fi? Also a Question About Google Hangouts?

Hello everyone!
I was wondering if it is possible to text someone just by using your Wi-Fi. I don't have the best of service, so I often get text messages really late. Is there any app that I can use that will allow me to receive messages over Wi-Fi? I've heard about Google Hangouts before, is it a good replacement to use instead of the stock messaging app? Also, what don't you like about Hangouts? Thanks a lot for your answers!

+1 :good:
The above statement is accurate about Verizon messages, not a bad app either. Hangouts works great for video chatting and phone calls over wifi too but if you are just needing messaging, I would go with Verizon messaging as the other user of hangouts would have to have a gmail account. While I realize most people do, now, have a gmail account I have found many people do not want to message in Hangouts.

Question Android Virgin Seeking Advice

Hello, new to the forum and new to Android after 20+ years of Iphones. I have had the Zfold4 now for a few months, it has been a BIG LEARNING CURVE but enjoying it and loving the phone. Looking for what platform or app are you using and would recommend for calls, messaging, and voicemail. Please forgive my ignorance if this is a stupid question, just an Android virgin that needs some help. Thank you in advance!
I just use what the zfold4 came with. The stock dialer, the stock messaging (which is provided by google), and the stock voicemail - which in my case is the t-mobile visual voicemail. I have tried others but frankly it seems fine the way it came. The cool thing about the google messaging app is that you can also use it from a browser so you can get send/receive messages from you computer as well. I tend to use the facebook messenger for most of my video chats.
Stock apps work fine but Android gives you many options. I will say I have What's App loaded for the friends and family that are on iPhones for messaging and video. I absolutely love this form factor and while I have kept my Note 20 as a backup, I don't see myself going back to the old style.
I use stock apps too. They're working nice. For messeging i use signal instead of WhatsApp but I'm on the minor side. At least all of my friends use signal as second messenger beside WhatsApp.
For Video-Calls i use mostly Signal and Discord.
