Hey everyone, im a complete noob, I have been wanting to get cyanogenmod for my Desire for a long time now and only now did I dare to go for it.
I followed this guide step by step and it works perfectly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
Problem I got now is when I want to add accounts to sync and stuff, I cant, it gives me an error. Can someone please tell me what to do?
Best Regards
what error does it give?
It says "couldnt connect to the server"
Tho, on the server part it says "gmail.com" is that suppose to be something else?
Um, I just stumbled upon this: hxxp://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version#Google_Apps
Do I need to download that Google Apps thing? What would I do after?
Yep I had to flash Google Apps, works now, im so happy i didnt brick my phone lol.

Hello All, I've just flashed a custom rom (cyanogen mod 7) via the wonderful noob-proof videos hosted by linksloveandroid. Everything worked perfectly but now I don't have the android market on my phone. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Baab.

Flash gapps on top of the rom. Its basically legal crap so Google can't Sue or something. This is normal

Thanks for that, I installed successfully but now I'm getting the message, 'Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server.' when I try to set up my google account. I cannot get to the settings in my phone until I've set it up. OOPS. I feel I'm so near to success, please HELP. Thanks again baab.
Connect to Wi-Fi and do it
Yeah, just needed to skip initial sign-up procedure, should there be a gapps icon in my applications now? cos I can't find one. Sorry to be a pest, but nothing seems obvious anymore and theres no android market icon either, damn.
Okay just fixed it. The problem was that I didn't clear user data and cache before flashing gapps. Thanx to All. baab.

yea, it's not the end of the world lol.
put the gapps zip on your sd, turn your phone on and just flash it (no need to flash rom again), then reboot.
Thanks!
Will do that... do you know where I can fin the Gaaps?

Resintall everything to make sure all is working fine.
Connect to wifi first, then go to market and it will ask you to access to your gmail account!
ready

Another problem on my other phone
Hi. I instaled this on one of my phones and everything is perfect, however, with my other Bravo, Im gaving problems because I get: cant establish a reliable data connection to the server... and I can never log in to google... any ideas? I have already tried clearing cache, and resintalling everyting from scratch, to no avail. and I know google is not down because I can creat and log into another account with my other bravo.
As a followup to this problem, I tried connecting to Google on another wifi hotspot and it worked... I guess the settings of my IP are somehow incorrect at home, does anyone have any idea on what the correct settings should be... I can connect to Google at home once Im signed in from another IP.

Method 1 :
Try re installing Gmail on your device. Or go to settings, Application Manager, and Clear the Cache and Application data.
Restart your phone, see if Gmail works!
Method 2 :
Go to your setting and sync all your data to your samsung account. And hit the factory reset. This should fix most of the problems. Worked fine for me.
Hi,
Can check if gmail has been disabled in app manager.
Cheers!!!
Hey guys,
I would like to start by apoligizing if there is a thread relating to this issue, but i have searched the forums and couldn't find a solution. The problems i am having is that Google just will not sync on my phone ATT Galaxy S3. I lost all contacts, google play, and google talk. nothing is working anymore.
Recently i tried to install "freedom" on the phone to get free in app purchases. then installed localepicker. now removed the locale picker and the freedom app and i am not sure if this is what caused the problem.
I dont know alot about all this rooting and flashing and stuff like that... i rooted the phone a very simple way from this website just to get game gaurdian on the phone to mess around with games.
So if anybody could helo with my problem thta would be excellent.
Thank you very Much.

When you go in settings and add account, do you get an error? Also, do you set it to manually sync or automatic?
Did it randomly stop or it was after flashing?

Can not establish a reliable connection to the server.
This could be a temporary problem or your Android device may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues Call Customer Servic .
Thats is the message that I keep getting. And i noticed it this morning after I deleted all that freedom/locale pocket stuff. The Internet still works, it's just it refuses to sync the Google account.
Thanks again for taking the time to help me.

When you look at your signal, is it grey? When it is colored (blue most of the time), then it's connecting with Google, if grey, it's not.
I did a little google search (can go a long way ) and found a few solutions:
1- Just restart the phone without the SIM card, and connect to some WiFi network, so you can login to your Google Account. It will log you into the account, and then you can put the SIM card back.
2- Add YouTube app and login with gmail account
Go into Gmail App and add account if needed.
Sign into Gmail account wither username and password
Go through login process
3- Hard reset your phone. You will lose all information that is currently on your phone when you do this.
Select Settings -> Security -> Factory Data Reset
Once the phone reboots, input your google account information when the phone asks for it.

Tried step #1 and #2. None of these work. Just a quick question before Itry step #3 . Will it cause to brick my phone? The only reason I am asking is because the phone is rooted, by one of the methods on this site. That is my only worry, will anything happen if I do it that way or doni have to go threw Odin and that whole process again? Once again thanks for the help.

No you won't brick your phone. Although, make a backup first.

Thanks a lot. When you say back up - you just mean pull all the pics off and put them on my comp, right? Like i said before I'm a noob to the whole android rooting process and things of its nature. Thanks again.

You can go in recovery and make a nandroid backup. That will make a flashable image of your phone which you can get back to if something goes wrong.

Wow. Ok I totally lost you there. I don't know how to make backups and flash stuff. Guess I'll just try to take off the pics and videos. And start from scratch again. I would love to have the latest JB update w/o all the bloatware that AT&T puts on it, but that a whole other project in itself. Lol Thank you for all your help.

Fantastic.... all your ideas did nothing...
Still experiencing the same problems. same error message. its like its blocking my phone from syncing. Maybe i deleted a file. I think the best bet would be to flash a whole new ROM or reboot the whole phone, and make it a fresh one.

Do a backup and go back to stock. See if it works there. If not, it's a problem with your carrier, maybe even your sim card.
