[Q] Question about DRM - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone tell me what apps will I lose when I unlock the bootloader other than TrackID (I have found an alternative TrackID which works with all phones)
Thanks

Music and video unlimited and the facebook like button in the stock music player also stops working.

Ok thanks for telling me

Apparently you will also lose thumbnail pics on phone contacts synced with Facebook. I get two or three with pics but the rest are blank.. -_-

Contact List slow

Hi you guys,
i love my arc very much but one thing is pissing me off.
Every time i open up my contacts, it takes for ever for them to show up or when i go into an contact it takes forever.
I have synct my contacts with Facebook so i can have the fancy pictures. (perhaps thats the problem)
Is there a way to disable this so i can just get the pictures and not all the profile stuff too?
Or is it something complete diffrent?
Phone is upto date...
thx for your help
Mine is perfectly fine, every contact has a nice contact pic that I set myself.
Maybe it is the facebook stuff slowing it, I dont use any of that rubbish.
No problems here.. Got facebook inside xperia fully synced.. Are your contacts stored on the phone or in google? Do you have a task kilter running on auto? How many contacts do you have? Are you using the stock dialer and contacts app. ?

Can anyone answer these ICS questions?

Does it rescan everything upon startup? Does it rescan photos when you take a picture? How do you put music on the phone if you can't drag-and-drop MP3s?
When you click the share button, does it still give you a list of 90 apps that are open?
If you have SIM Contacts hidden, when you SMS someone, does it show the SIM Contact and the Google Contact? When you send a SMS to more than one person, does it still make a group SMS, or does it text each individual person and update their message threads?
On Google Contacts, currently, my Contact Photos can only be as big as thumbnails. If ICS uses high-res, big Contact Photos, how does that work? Does Google Contacts have updated Contact Photos for you? Did it make you get rid of your old Contact Photos?
Thanks!
Wow a lot of questions I see there.
I can answer a few for you.
1. It does rescan everything on startup. Also checks for updates.
2. It updates you photos like if you take one it goes straight to gallery but doesn't do a full scan again. As far as I'm aware.
3. Unless I'm missing something you can drag and drop music, photos, and media into folders that you select.
You have to select the option in settings to camera (ptp)

Less worried about this one now, since it's a Galaxy Nexus-specific issue. But thank you for your answers!!

Anyone else care to take a shot at the remaining questions? Does anyone keep their contacts on their SIM Card anymore?

Hopefully not. The SIM storage is very basic and I wouldn't recommend it as anything but an extra backup.
I keep my contacts on my SIM as an extra backup, but that doesn't stop Android from putting them in my message contacts regardless of their display settings.

I wouldn't recommend relying on storing SIM contacts.
Why not just use the Google contacts for your phone (and general backup) and then also export them as a csv file (from google contacts) and store on your computer/dropbox/flash drive? You can have good backup without duplicate contacts on your phone.
I also have few questions as I`m looking to switch from iPhon 4 to Galaxy Nexus after volume bug is solved.
1) Can ICS push emails directly on the screen so I don`t even have to unlock the phone? Liks in iOS5 - I don`t need to pick up the phone or unlock screen, I can see first few lines of the email.
2) Can you set custom ringtone for incoming emails?
3) Is it possible to change how fast LED blinks and what colour for sms & emails?
4) I`m using TomTom, but Android doesn`t have TomTom. Is there turn-by-turn SatNav for Android?
Thanks
The high-res contact photos is still NO go if you are syncing with Google Contacts (GMAIL contacts) only.
If you do it this way, you will receive low res 96x96 pixels contact photos.
I know, this is ****. It's been ages we have requested this to be fixed.
But, apparently, Google won't listen.
NOTE: I read that if you synced with Google+, you will receive high-res photo from Google+. But, not all my contacts are in Google+.

Mmm no. You can access the notifications area from the lockscreen so that you can see who its from and click into the gmail app, but it doesn't show the first lines.

When I drive and my iPhone is in windscreen holder, its very safe as I don`t have to take my hands off steering wheel to check who is this email from and what about.
I thought ICS was them listening! So the contact has to be stored on the phone to get high-res photos? So that means I'd have the whole SIM card contact/Google Contact/Phone Contact deal all over again? It's like they don't know how to design a phone OS sometimes...
And what's unreliable about SIM Contacts? I trust Google Contacts completely.

The problem with SIM contacts is that the SIM is very specific in what it can store. A UMTS sim can store 2 numbers per person and type (I dumped my SIM with a usb sim-reader). The is no way to store a picture and all the other things Google allows you to store and sync. Sure, they could keep different databases just for the stuff the SIM doesn't support but that would just result in more problems in general and you would have a hard limit on the number of contacts set to 250.
Summary: SIM contacts are too limited to be useful today. It's only decent as a backup in my opinion.
Why are you so against having your contacts on Google contacts or just as a vcard locally? To me, Google contacts is really great as I can change my contacts from anywhere and I always have them backed up. It also makes it extremely easy to setup a new Android phone and allows me to export them to a number of formats if I need it.

1. It'd be a hassle to delete all the numbers off my SIM. It also should be unnecessary. There's no reason why Android should be looking at my SIM after I told it not to.
2. I am not against having my contacts on Google Contacts. I have them on Google Contacts. I used to have them on Google Contacts AND my phone, but all that did is have Android list each contact three times. A nightmare!! All I am saying is, don't look at my SIM card if I say not to, or be smart enough to not list duplicates because THE CONTACTS ARE MERGED.

contacts not showing facebook image

hi,
i've upgraded from a DHD, after syncing with facebook and putting my details in, the contacts in my contacts app dont all show the facebook profile picture.
Some do.....unsure why, but not the majority......
Never had this issue with my desire and my desire hd
i could wipe the phone and start again, or remove facebook data and then re-add
i'm also wondering about how HTC actually saves this data also, like since its related to my gmail account, some of the images may have saved to some of my contacts that way, making me think that they have the facebook profile pic attached, when in fact its not, its google saving this image to my address book, rather than the phone receiving this from my facebook contacts (yeah i know, i'm not too good at explaining this)
Bottom line, my phone address book includes facebook contacts, many of which dont actually have any profile pics attached to their contact on my phone.
PS: I'm just gonna wipe and start again, and see what happens
it happens on mine too. was wondering~
any solution so far?
I did a hard reset, it helped a little as now more of my contacts are showing facebook profile pic, but still not all

I believe this is an ICS (Android 4.0) issue. Get Haxsync from the Market (argh, Play Store). It resolves this.

2 problems with the Note 2 that I have noticed. Anyone else?

On my lock screen I have it show weather and news (my device is protected by a password). The weather is wrong (still shows a moon), and the news doesn't update unless I hit refresh. Anyway to get this stuff to refresh occasionally on its own???
The gallery loads VERRRRRY VERRRRRY slow. I had to download Gallery ICS to use it, because the built in one seemed unusable.
I noticed the refresh problem on my tablet as well, but just wondering if you guys had suggestions.
I am not familiar with your gallery issue but you can set your lock screen ticker to refresh at 3, 6, 12 hours with the default at none (manual refresh), just go into your lock screen settings to change.
My gallery is blazing fast..I only have about 100 pictures though.
I have over 200+ pics on my sd card and the gallery runs smooth, without issues.
Regarding weather/news, I noticed mine wasn't updating until I checked the lock screen settings and noticed it was set not to sync - I changed it to sync every 3 hrs and how it works perfectly
---------- Post added at 02:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:34 PM ----------
Are your pics on SD card or is it on the phone's memory? Does it run smoothly after pictures load?
question what class of sd card are you using and no not the size. is it a class 2 sd card? if so there is your problem. also weather needs to be set to the refresh interval you have set but it usually updates whenever you unlock your phone.

I feel the same way about both your problems although the first one doesnt bother me as much
The gallery loading extremely slowing is an issue although Im not sure if it something to do with me rooting/installing a rom on this one. I installed the rom pretty much as soon as I got home. I have over 300+ pix I transfered from my computer and it takes a good 20-30sec for everything to load
up on the initial screen.
I have 9600 photos on a 64gb sd card and about another 2000 photos in Google+ that load and my gallery is *****ing fast. Absolutely no load/render lag whatsoever. Touchwiz gallery is the best gallery in Android currently and I have a one x, gs3, Nexus 4, and a droid razr maxx sitting on my coffee table.
No idea about the other thing bc I don't use it.

"This thread is quite pointless" is not only rude, you also fail to make a valid point about why the thread would be pointless. Just because you don't observe the problem doesn't mean the question is pointless.
"Please go back under the rock you crawled out from" is also a very unfit reply. That is what I purchased.
I'm not seeing either of these issues with mine.
i did notice a issue with a sort of lag on the gallery on load when you have facebook gallery sync, and i have a few thousand photos in there , but i noticed a issue that it would hang when i would be in any app that lets me select a photo by opening up the gallery then it would hang there, i'm thinking of just uninstalling facebook then re-installing it without the sync gallery option since i can't find a way to just disable it period.

Settings then Facebook under accounts and sync, then click your name and untick Sync Gallery. You may have to wipe Media Storage and Gallery data too.

Ditto this. Facebook sync was slowing my gallery waaaaay down. I changed the Facebook gallery sync to None. It took a re-sync before all of the photos disappeared from my gallery, which is now much faster like it originally was.
Facebook was also slowing mine down. I installed the 4.2 gallery and even with facebook sync on, its not lagging at all anymore.
stay awake
I have to continuously turn the stay awake option back on... really annoying....
So my problem was the Facebook sync. It is disabled and lightspeed again.
Thanks for the help all.

[Q] htc m8 cannot save image using facebook messenger

hi guys! glad to have found this thread.
how are your phones so far?
I have a prob with mine.. it's very weird.
idk if you're using fb messenger... but i can't save images from chat when i'm on it. when I long press on the image and press save image, the little gray popup that's supposed to come up and say "image saved" doesn't appear. tried reinstalling the messenger app, still no go, so i completely uninstalled it.
and then what I did was i also uninstalled any updates from my built-in fb app and then went back to the factory version. I could then save images from chat and they appeared in my gallery under the album named "messenger." so then, I updated the fb app (again--I could still save photos from chat at this point).. so I thought it was all good.
I went back to the play store and reinstalled fb messenger, but then I couldn't save pics again! my friend who also has an m8 could save pics using her fb messenger app (with the fb built-in app not updated since she bought it).... this is just one annoying bug!
has anyone here had this prob? or is it just me. my m8 isn't rooted, no nothing. i reset my phone to factory version and wiped out even the data on my sd card, TWICE. but still the same issue. is it the fb messenger app or is it my phone?

The custom ROMS wont help you in this, the Messenger app is the problem.
