SDCard - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 16G memory card and it reads 12G used and 3.3 G remaining. I have about 3G if games from gameloft and barely 1G of pics 3.4G of backup data. When I select to see what apps are on sdcard it had a list of games and everyone of them gives me the option to move to usb storage. I've
Deleted a lot of stuff especially videos and pics and it seems like my memory card its congested. Do I need to format it to get it empty?

I'd hookup to PC and browse through files there, delete things you don't need like old roms and leftover garbage from old apps and see if that helps. Old nandroids take up a lot of space too.

Just google lost.dir and see what pops up. From my understanding in doing that a while back, this is kind of like a recycling bin area. I'm sure someone else on here can explain it in greater detail. I check that folder and delete it every now and again when I see it filling up. The phone will create that folder again on the next reboot.

The only folder on your sd card u need is your Android folder cuz thats wat holds your data...

In which of the storage directories should I save stuff?

I upgrade from the SGS4g to the SGS2 tmo and I'm kinda confused about the storage directories. I'm seeing emsc, ex-sd and internal memory. I did a nandroid, call log, and sms bakups before flashing and now I can't find any of them. Thanx in advance for your time and effort.

What did u use for back up? Cmw rom manager or what? Saved files should be in there. As if u did a nandro you have saved it to ur PC/lappie. That way u can pull it from there

And forgot to mention as long as you don't format your external SD card you won't loose any of the data saved on it. I d/l any zips into my external that way my internal is not all bloated with a lot of stuff and slows down my phone.

Check your recovery backups, see if you have too many, they can take up quite a bit of space.

i dont think so, i remember reading someone with a similar problem in another forum but cant for the life of me remember where, sorry! are u on a custom rom? try reflashing or connect to your computer and use the explorer to see where all your space has gone. if that doesnt show more space and a reflash doesnt fix maybe its your internal storage itself i think thats what it was with the other person and its irreparable without replacing. I know Flac music files are crazy big but i assume ud know if it was that. hope i help in some way and if i come across the other person with the same problem ill post a link.
I had a similar issue after flashing a new rom, it would show up with about 9gb taken up space even though nothing showed up. The way I'd fixed it was by formatting the sd card from clockworkmod.
A few ideas
Install solid explorer from the play store. It has a mode that lets you see what is eating up space graphically.
If you download roms vía rommanager or any other app check the sd card folders for those downloads. they're about 150 mb a piece so they can add up (especially if you do nightlies)
If i format my sd card via recovery,
Do i lose my apps?

You will lose any apps installed on the SD card.

SD Card won't read on Epic 4G

I turned my phone off and on and now my SD card isn't being read. My phone says it's mounted and I can go into it with Root Explorer and mess with anything and everything, but when I go into Apollo or Google Play Music, no music is shown, and when I go into gallery, no pictures are shown. How do I fix this?
Check for a .nomedia file on the root of your sd card.

I found it and deleted it, but no luck. Still can't find music files and pictures in Gallery.
Did you reboot after and verify it was gone? Also look in your music and picture directories for that file and remove it. Then reboot.

I thought so too. A reboot doesn't matter when it comes to that. I got so mad at my phone when it was a simple solution... -__-

Sd card

I should have more storage space than I do. Is my sd card being doubled with the sdcard0 thing that happens when flashing ROMs?

I don't think so. you should always wipe the whole system before flashing a new Rom. Also if you have a lot of nandroids stored, that takes away a lot of space. I recommend do a full wipe, format system and then flash your new Rom just to make sure all of the old Rom its gone:good:
Gotcha. Forgot about the nandroid I'd made. That would explain the space issue. Thanks for the response.
Install "disk usage" from the market. It will analyze your storage usage and show you what is using your storage.

Here's a screenshot of what disk usage found. Seems to me like my media was doubled, but I could be wrong. Any idea?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
It's not doubled, you just have +4GB in your music folder and +2GB worth of CWM backups.

No pictures in gallery

I currently have a rooted and unlocked s4. I have over 100 pictures in my sd card but my gallery is empty. I've moved the pictures around to other files and folders and still nothing. Any ideas, and thanks in advance.

If it's your external sd then it might be defective and need to format it if it's in the phone then connect to ur computer and move them and then format your internal storage and then move them back in it and it should fix it

Before doing anything too drastic, go to settings, manage apps, all apps, and find media storage.. Clear the data, give it a minute and take a picture.. Check your gallery again and everything should be up.

Got it. What I did was take the micro sd card. I placed it on a dynex micro sd card reader and connected the reader to my Mac. I then opened disk utilities. It found the sd card and ran the verify disk. It came back with errors. I then ran the repair disk, and I ran it again for good measure. I reinstalled my memory card back in my phone and my pictures are back in the gallery.

Also when I first put the card back in my phone it gave me an error. I took it out put it back in and it works flawless.
