I am currently running Lithid-cm's HTC EVO 4G Freedom V 0.9 (stock) kernal. I want to find a new one that is great and that I can install straight from my phone. I also could use some directions on how to do it.
TIA

Download your kernel of choice from phone, use some sort of file explorer app to make sure its named PC36IMG.zip and also make sure its on the root of your SD card, then turn your phone off and turn back on holding volume down or hold down power and hit reboot and see if you have a hboot option. After all that volume up when prompted then again. I haven't flashed a new kernel in a while but I think that covers it.

Aside from what he said, all the kernels for Evo are signed. They do not need to be PC36IMGs . Just wipe cache and dalvik, and flash like anything else thru recovery.

I use Savagen-Zen, you could also try Tiamat. Battery life on Savagen- Zen always seems a little better. A quick search will find you lots of links.

Well, I just installed it last night so it might be a few days before I notice the difference in full. As of now, It's a little snappier. It was really easy and quick to install. I was in line at Walmart and did it, by the time I had to pay I was able to use my phone again.

I can say that I have noticed about a 2% battery life increase and about a 5% performance increase. Of course I don't have a lot of apps and I use it light-normal now that I don't use Facebook. I also messed with my http and rstp and that helped with the 3g.

My fault. Sorry. I'm running that CM7 19 VERSION. I am using the red theme from the market. I can't use juice defender simply cause it doesn't support gingerbread yet. I'm using 60676 prl. Can't even find the pri but I'm assuming it's still 1.77 unless cm came with 1.9.
Flashed it 24 hours ago. Haven't switched kernals cause I have had horrible experience with anything other than stock with myn's. I reinstalled all my apps and kik messenger is on lockdown with autostarts. So therefore it doesn't eat up partial wake time and doesn't open unless I do it manually.

Stock, until you get those issues ironed out. "Stock" sounds lame, but CM7s kernel is far from stock
After that, I use savaged-zen with much success. Though everyone will tell you that kernels behave differently with different phones. Spend a week trying a few for like 2 days at a time and see which one you like the most Also, play with the governor settings (under settings/cyanogenmod settings/performance). I personally use the SZ kernel with the "interactive" governor and find it to be the best balance between speed and battery life.
Interactive all the way man!! DATS DA BEST!

Everybody has an opinion on this. Experience has shown that each phone has differences in how well certain ROMS/Kernels work. Trust me, just try different ROMS and see which one you like and which works best on your phone.
After trying many I have settled on Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS5. It is smooth as butter and everything works well on it. I have also found Netarchy's kernels work well on my phone and give me great battery life, even with heavy usage.
Again, don't be afraid to experiment and see what works best on your phone. Always make a Nand back up before you start.
You could have used search to find any of the 6 threads a week that start up asking the same dumb question.
It's like asking "I need a car, what's the best one?"

This behavior happens due to the way in which batteries are charged. It happens on many ROMs and kernels for the 1st 10%. What is important is what happens after that. If you want to avoid it entirely the only sure-fire is to use an SBC kernel.

That makes you completely ignorant for making that statement. Yes it is harmful in the long run, and they don't include it because of that and the things that can happen to that battery that cam cause the user harm.

Read up on and try each one and see what other people are saying till you find the one that your phone likes
I agree with penny. You have to try them out yourself.
I'd recommend sticking with the default MikG 3.1 kernel (which is the latest HTC kernel) for a couple weeks so you get used to it. Then jump to lionfish and see if you notice a difference in battery life and responsiveness. Personally I don't notice a difference in those areas, but others have been wowed by the latest HTC kernel. Some people say it takes a couple days for a ROM / kernel combo to "settle in." Your phone will have to rebuild the cache and dalvik, and it does that over time as you do different things on your phone.
Lionfish is not based on the latest HTC kernel since they haven't released the open source yet, but it has other features of course, like HDMI mirroring.
Thanks guy ill check them out
