They still have to advertise different products. Does honda just advertise the accord? It's better than the civic. Does Nissan only advertise the Maxima? It's better than the Altima. The fact is different items appeal to different people, phones are no different.

im convinced that sprint has a better contract with htc than they do with sprint.. the epic was better than the evo but got no publicity, and now the e4gt has better is better than the evo3d and gets no burn.. obviously something is up

I've wondered about that, too. They promoted the Evo3D on their website for over a month before it was available... I never saw mention of the ET4G until launch day.
In fact, the picture of the Evo3D with that creepy-looking little girl is still up there.
I wonder if Sprint is having the same issues with Samsung that caused Verizon to relegate them to Red-headed step child status... Too many returns due to radio issues.

Your all wrong. You have to advertise the worse product for it to even sell. The people that know what's going on know what phone to buy without seeing an advertisement. If they felt like they were going to have a problem selling the epic touch then they would advertise for it. Remember it does cost money to advertise so why spend money if you don't have to. Also there really wasn't that much advertising for any of the sgs1 and it out sold every manufacturer.

I liked the first one better lol. I like the advertisements they're shockingly accurate as to what apple launch day is.
Apple gave their competition a golden opportunity. If I had an iPhone 4 I would not walk out of a store using an upgrade on a phone that looks identical and basically is identical (OK don't flame but an upgraded camera and CPU/gpu isn't worth an upgrade)

The first round of commercials were better, it actually showed some of features of the phone. Still I like the fact that they are firing back at apple...the right and respectable way...not with frivolous lawsuits but through competition.

My girlfriend just upgraded to the 4s from the 4 despite my best efforts. I had her convinced to at least try the at&t gs2 and see if she would like it. But then the salesman said, "I have the gs2 and if you already have an iPhone you'll want to stay with iPhone.."
And she did. Stupid salesman. I was di close to converting someone and I was helpless to intervene because I was at work. Blast.

One of the metrics we are scored on is return rate. I've yet to return an iPhone for anything but a more expensive iPhone. I have definitely returned android devices (including the epic touch) for iPhones. I will give someone a fair discussion on whether they are really getting the right phone without resorting to android snobbery, but I ultimately have to look out for me and not get things returned.

Unless I get an Apple diehard with nothing but Apple products I can usually flop them to Android. More specifically the Epic Touch. Larger screen, expandable memory and showing them mine running all the rooted goodies. Plus, a lot of people don't like that you have to use iTunes.

My girlfriend wants an IPad now but I have nothing else I can convince her of :-( I said the TF prime before it came out but blech. I'm on the lookout for a nice ICS tablet myself, there's not really any android tablets I like except older ones.

The rumors of the prime being crap are greatly exaggerated. I know 2 people that have one and have had no problems. It's a very vocal minority that have issues if you read the forums closely.

Why the E4GT is better than the iPhone - For Dummies

My dad always brags to his friends that his phone (he also has the E4GT) is better than the iPhone and then when they ask him why he just tells me to explain. Of course I go on rambling about root stuff and it just goes over their head. So can anyone give me some easy tips on what to say in this scenario? What would make our phone better than the iPhone in simple terms? Of course I know the E4GT murders it for power users like us on XDA, but for the average user, it's different.
Anyways, here's what I can think of:
- 4G
- Bigger Screen
- Better camera (maybe)
- Ability to multitask
- Widgets
- Gapps and integration
- Flash (for when its needed)
- Live wallpapers
- Face unlock
What else?
Added based on responses:
- Replaceable battery
- Easier to tether
- Screen more durable when dropped (Gorilla Glass?)
- App market not as restrictive
- 3G speeds apparently better - depends on towers
Edit: For the record, I'm not insulting Apple products. Most of my family has an iPhone and it functions well. But I'm sure most of us here on developer forums can agree that Android as an OS is superior to iOS

Why do people on xda feel the need to convince others why their phone is better? It is just a piece of glass and plastic made by some some corporation at the hands of borderline slaves in another country. If some people find the iPhone to be more useful for themselves, good for them. Get over it.

My reasons for owning an e4gt. (I had the iphone 4s since release and traded up about 2 weeks ago):
4G
customizable
bigger screen
4G (yes I put it twice)
3G is actually faster on this than the iphone from my tests (fiance still has a 4S)
I can use it like a mini computer
easier to tether with

Customize everything most of the time without having to root. Were as iPhone requires jailbreak.

Just to explain why some might be that way. Is basically cause we like all forms of technology including competing phones to Android, we research to see what we are up against. I for one think the iPhone is a great device, for people that want simple but works. I've read more about the iPhone then I've read about most new androids... I've also turned many of my friends who were huge on the iPhone to start using android. Overall most people don't dislike the iPhone just the maker...
My thoughts at least.

Yeah I understand that, trust me I'll probably get one myself, I don't like to judge till I used one, but sometimes the focus on this websites is just hate... Yeah and I understand I got some friends like that, I use two phones to work and I found it useless to Carry two android phones... So either the iPhone or the new lumina (which it actually looks really hot right now)

Totally agree, it's their business practices that lost me as a fan back when they released the original iPhone. Still bought iPods until I got my Vibrant in 2010, then they all collected dust until I bought a Nano to use as a watch. But I'll never, ever own an iPhone. Android=freedom to customize and affords the opportunity to learn at least a little on how things work.

Hysterical!

Don't get me started on their business practices. The only Apple product I've ever owned was an iPod Video and even that was a gift. It's mind blowing with the iPods how they had all the technology to make the iPod Video the first generation iPod, but they purposefully stripped useful features away so they can slowly add the features back and sell it as a whole new device. The really unexpected part is stupid people still pay for it!
It's the same thing with the iPhone now. There's no reason why the iPhone 4S only had a 800 Mhz processor when everyone else was putting out 1.0 to 1.5Ghz processors. It's the same business tactic. Put out a substandard product now, release a later version with some of the stripped features, make idiots buy the same device twice.

I think this rep needs to work in the Apple store rather than at AT&T. Obviously he is clueless as to which phones was included in the lawsuit that Apple won as the Galaxy S3 wasn't included in that trial. Even though Apple is trying to in another case.

So I'm flipping through the channels and come across Tim Cook on ABC. And they show the Samsung Galaxy S3 commercial that shows people waiting for the iPhone. He said apple loves competition, ya right. And now they are talking about getting into TVs. Seems to me that apple is now noticing what us Android owners already know. That they where the leader in the phone bussiness but now left behind.

all companies are going to branch out into markets that they are already connected to through competition. apple really hasn't ever invented anything, they've just been extremely good at marketing. it has nothing to do with which phone is better, because there is a user for every phone, it just depends on what you're looking for. i was talking to a girl today who has an iphone and she was like holy **** your phone looks awesome. i showed her all the cool **** i can do on it that she can't on hers, and well... she wasn't impressed at all. she didn't care about rooting, she didn't care about custom keyboards, themes, etc... all she cared about was how nice the screen was, that it was bigger, and that it multitasked better, which is something that apple needs to work on and they know it. so yeah... at least the iphone can copy and paste now!

I theorize that apple is just were they want to be. They have their little garden and their fruit too. People are and will be sucked in. I wantedbabtablet 2 years ago but got an itouch. This was very important because I had a phone at the time that had simmilar specs yet slower than molases ona flat table in alaska! People who adopted android early on went to apple because they were fed up with bugs, slowness and the fact they werent really good. Today, this just is NOT the case but people still distrust android even in its late stage. The apple garden offers all their "speed" at a price. You buy all apple and your stuck with it, Cause its so damn expensive! Comparing android to ios is pointless in the wprld of today because the gap has been filled in with cement. I stayed with android after playong in webos and ios. Android won because I saw the potential as the specs just got more and more ridiculus and the battery finally decent enough to have a phone thats useable. If you look back at apples history you can see steve jobs saved the company. So apple being worried is plausable yet highly implausible. Theyve sols too many things to come close to finacial woes. They need an apple tv because people wanted one. So once everyones convinced they arent gonna make one, we'll see one.

Erm? Apple already has made TVs lol. And monitors for their computers. The only reason apple has so much more money and net worth is because they make 10 times the products android does.. Androids an operating system. Apple is a wide variety of electronics and software unfortunately..

I wish Apple and Android just battle it out old west style. Biggest gun (features) wins. Bringing the law into it seems tasteless. Just let the better device speak for itself.

"Apple, intellectual property thieves hiding behind intellectual property laws" They patent open source software then claim they "invented" it, and then sue anyone else who uses it. If they were really so innovative they wouldn't need to sue every company that one ups them, they'd just invent something better.
