Rom question - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Are there any roms out there that support BLN and or usb host ?

Nothing for bln for sure. It would have to be built in the kernels as well. Probably not a priority since we have a led. I had purchased the app from the market for my vibrant back when, now it just sits there.
For the other question I have no idea.

Thanks man, yeah I bought bln pro but sold my Nexus S therefore don't need it on my phone. Besides, you're right we do have an LED

ICS mirroring question

Just upgraded to official ICS and can't get mirroring to work. Has anyone tried it? If you've gotten it to work, could you share how you did. Thanks guys.

I haven't heard of mirroring, can you explain what it is?

Displaying on your TV screen exactly what is displaying on your phone. It requires the use of an adapter.
Exactly. Has anyone tried to use it since upgrading to ics? I use it a lot and it seems to only work on gingerbread. Thanks.

Confirmed not working for me as well, running this rom. I'd been running CM9 for a month or so and was hoping that going back to a stock(ish) rom would restore this functionality, but I'm optimistic that it'll be patched soon. I've used my MHL adapter maybe 5 times at most so it's not any kind of deal breaker, but I'd still like to use it!

Are you talking about doing this through a MHL Adapter?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yep. Was working with adapter on gingerbread but not on ics.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Yes it is working on ICS Touchwiz based roms, I tried it on blu Kuban and wicked sensation. I was using it the other day to watch the hangover 2. I know the mhl adaptor doesn't work on AOSP roms right now. The adaptor I'm using is the Samsung MHL adaptor, that has a port for plugging in the USB charger and it's required to have it plugged in. The phone has to be charging while in use.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
I have the Menotek MHL adapter and it does not work on ICS...
I get EDIDRead() errors in my Logcat and then it reverts to DVI mode (which evidently doesn't work over an HDMI cable... go figure)
I haven't tried factory reset yet, so maybe it's a data issue...
Anyone with a Menotek adapter confirm workage on stock ICS?
cheap 6$ adapter from amazon here.. been working on all tw roms since early ics leaks. doesnt work on aosp YET.. we have source so id expect it to be fixed on aosp in the near future

Red text in upper left hand corner of screen

Anybody know what this text is and why it showed up? This is my brother's G2; all stock.

Probably has something to with he task killer, get rid of it as its bad for android anyway.
Even better root the phone and use one of the many superior custom ROMs available due to the efforts of our great devs, none of which will have that red text

I uninstalled the task killer; that wasn't the problem. My brother doesn't want me to root or ROM the phone, so that's out of the question.

Galaxy SII Plus

I just read about this thing, and I know we have leaks and such, but it worries me that we won't see JB. Why would they update ours and have a new one come out, and the new one is the same thing accept 8GB internal and runs JB out of the box. Anyone else at least confused on Samsung's thought process here?

Same as s3 mini a smaller budget friendly version of a popular device. The plus will probably fall to the low mid range devices similar to the level of the transform or moment or galaxy rival etc.

I didn't think they were, it just confused me as to why they would throw another version of the phone out with less storage, and JB out of the box, but I didn't think if it they way evil put it.

I'm not sure why but it's probably because they got left over parts they never put to use so they probably just slap them together into a mid range phone and make whatever they can out of the parts they wouldn't be able to get rid of anyways. Just my thought... if you can scrap older parts or left overs into a device you can use to sell via a carrier on a contract for 50 to 100$ maybe even free, why not?
Maybe looking to corner the market on pre-paid carriers with the left-over parts as mentioned before. Also, with apple rumors on a lower cost iphone for overseas markets, maybe this will be marketed as the H2H competitor.
We got Jelly already anyway so who cares? I mean if FL16 isn't good enough for a daily I don't know what is.

HTC did this with the Evo. Made the Evo Design, then dropped the HTC Evo Lte
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapalk HD
So why is this called Plus? Seems the same as the SII but with less storage? Same screen size, same camera's, both are dual core. Why would you go with this over a a SII?
I guess the positives of it rocking nearly the same hardware is that if the older S2 models don't get 4.2.x updates... the S2 + will be a sign of hope.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Looks like the price will be around $450usd (if its priced similarly to other countries by exchange rate) so itll be a lower mid range device on par with s3 mini slightly higher price than s3 and lower than prevail. So on contract it should come in between $99 and free(if it goes to us carriers that arent prepaid)

Who the hell knows. Probably size constraints cdma devices have alot more crap inside them than gsm does. International phones have one gsm hspa+ 21 or 42 antenna vs cdma has a 1x/3g plus wimax or 1x separate 3g and wimax. Then theres all the other parts in there wifi antenna bluetooth SoC RAM etc nfc chips are actually quite big. The s3 has it built into the battery because of that and the note 2 has it built into the battery cover with connectors that press against leads on the back housing
Edit: it also has a very limited range like maybe 2" MAX so it cant be embedded in the device it needs to be almost at the surface to prevent interference from the other hardware. Its range is so limited it wont eve work thru some phone cases

Ah curse cdma. The one thing I don't like about them is the fact that there is no sim card, that makes everything so much easier when switching phones.

[SOLVED] Mods please lock this

Hello everyone around, today I exchanged devices, got my 2nd Nexus and joined the GNex community Hope I can be of any help to you later, but now I need some help:
Both GNex and Nexus 4 have indicator LEDs that can handle "breathe" actions. However, GNex doesn't come with native battery charging indication while Nexus 4 does (Samsung, why?). What I want is that the LED "breathes" when on low battery, charging or full, and (optional but much needed) these LED behaviors should persist even when the screen is unlocked, just like what I got on a standard Nexus 4. I've searched around the web and:
1) Light Flow is said to work, but won't even light up my LED in test mode.
2) Light Manager does its job when screen is first locked, but the LED will turn off once I unlock the screen. Furthermore, if I unlock the screen, pull down the notification drawer and then unlock, the LED won't light up even though I'm still plugged in
3) A third app (I forgot its name) is said to work well, but is reported to fail since 4.3.
Now I'm outta ideas... I am an active flasher and GNex is a secondary device so it has to be on the latest CM - I can't downgrade to 4.2.x just for this LED. I'll definitely appreciate it if you have any app to suggest that can realize what I described above (I can stand having no LEDs when screen on, but it has to work perfectly when screen off).
Thanks for reading this and have a nice day.

Thanks for the heads-up! I gave another go at Light Flow and after careful settings, it sure works better than Galaxy Nexus LED. More customization and the ability to make LED stay on rather than "breathing".
However, I've searched around in the app but didn't find the place where I can set the LEDs to light even when screen is on - could you kindly point out what option and where it is? I'm on the latest version of the app.

...But why @mrgnex claim it so? And from what I heard, this is an OS-level restriction instead of a hardware one, but on a Nexus 4, the charging lights persist when screen on, indicating that this restriction isn't hardcoded into the OS... I'm confused :what:

The API is there, vanilla Android doesn't have the options to do it. Think, how could lightflow work if the support wasn't there?

OTG for Tab 3 7.0

I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere but I did a quick browse and didn't see anything.
My question is my boss has a tab 3 7.0 SM-T210R and recently purchased an OTG multi card reader for it. Well long story short it appears that with at least stock software that it doesn't work on the tab 3. Now it works on my S3 but I have 4.4.2 custom ROM and kernel. So my question is would a custom kernel and/or ROM make the card reader work on the tab 3 or is it a hardware issue?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
Long story short no.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
How about the long version of the short story?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
Just doesn't support it, and asking a dev to support it if it even can be done will be forever and a chore on the developer itself.
So no, it might not even come cause from what I know our device won't power the storage without an external power source supplying power.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Fair enough. And I wouldn't expect a Dev to try and get it working unless they just wanted too. However I find it odd that an S3 would be capable of running a card reader but a tablet wouldn't. :/ I guess that's just the logic of electronics manufacturers. Seems to me that type of setup would make more sense on a tablet than a phone.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
It would, but this is a low budget, overpriced outdated piece of hardware sprint even can't get rid of for free most of the time.
I do appreciate the devs we have trying to make this tablet a working tablet, and I do want otg support for it too, but I don't think it will ever happen.
Its just a tablet that's perfect for kids, if they'd knock off $75, but its the name you pay for I guess.
