Does anybodies Google places work? I hit the search button when I want to find something and nothing ever happens.

Mine is working fine. I am on a custom rom though. I'm pretty sure it was working before rooting too.
The exact same thing has happened to me since ive owned the galaxy nexus. I have been holding out and hoping that one of those maps updates will fix our problem. A good work around is if you go to maps and type in the search bar what you are looking for and select it from the map or if you go to google places on your web browser it works ok. Not really a good solution but its worked for me.
Are you sure you guys are allowing access? When you first run it you have to grant it access. Could be in the background when you pull the drop down.

Yeah when I search in maps it works but in the places app no dice. Kinda sucks. I wonder if I uninstall it and reinstall will fix it.

Worth a try for sure. I use that app all the time if I'm out of town.
I checked and I had the same problem. I resolved it by going to:
Settings>apps>Maps> then I cleared the cache and uninstalled the updates. I went to the market and updated back to the current version and everything works fine now.
Oh how I love Android and all of it's little glitches. I see them as an opportunity to figure things out.

Every so often when I run the Play Store it says "No connection". And as many times as I push the Retry button it says the same thing. Even if I force close the app
I kinda just have to wait a bit and it starts working again. I never lose network connection though. I'm betting its not actually an issue with Google's servers so I'm wondering if its an issue with my phone or setup

What worked for me but still no explanation
I'm a lousy member on this Forum, 2 years or so and my first post
I had 2 Nexus Ones and both of them took a swim (literally)
Gave up used BB-Gun.
Anyhow, I just obtained MyTouch 4G Slide and encountered the same problem, this place here was the last that I looked for an answers..on low/mid end Forums I've found a lot of half answers for example,
"yeah it happens"
"power off and/or restart,,it worked for me" (it didn't work for me)
My observations, at the same time that connection with G Play don't work also Google Maps does't work..Reason? No Data connection.
All was fine until I installed G Voice (conflict/ bug?)
What I did, is the following I switched to Wi-Fi, and it worked, then i uninstalled G Voice.
And tried again but this time I was connected to Wi-Fi, installed G Voice and the same problem..turned off the Wi-Fi switched to regular connection and it worked.
I know that I didn't offer any explanation or fix for the problem but there is a pattern
Fixed it!
I have found the answer! Well, at least this was what was wrong with mine:
It was just that the date on my tablet had reset to 2010. Put it back to today's date and the Play store works perfectly now.
Hope that helps.

Worked like a dream. I installed jellybean ((cm10) i think)) and wanted to go backto my ice cream sandwich. When i did, play store and youtube didnt work. I guess google apps in general. If google made it it said no connection. I tried uninstalling the updates and reinstalling them to no avail. I searched and found this thread. My date changed when i restored my back up. I didnt even realize it till i read this thread. My years changed to 2005. Switched it back to 2012 and no problems. Network connection fine. Thanks alot.
Took me quite some time to figure this one out, thought I should post it here in case anyone else has a similar problem.
When I updated to Android 4.1.2, I noticed that my Google Navigation stopped working. It would simply sit there endlessly "Waiting for location..." Fortunately, there's a simple fix:
1. Go to "Settings > Accounts > Google > Location Settings".
2. Flip the switch to "On" (I found this was off in my case).
3. Try Google Navigation again, it should work fine.
I'm not sure why Google decided to break up the location settings into two different places like this, but it's a bit silly IMO as it's definitely going to catch some people out.
You probably cleared the Google Services Framework at some point. When you do that, it disables location services.
Makes sense. It's still a good thing to let people know about it.
It's good to know that I wasn't the only one with this issue factory reset did the thing for me.
I have a different issue
hi
My issue is different.
After the update I am not able to download updates from Google play.
It tells me that the connection to the server has been timed out.
|I cleared the Cache of Google play, but did not helped.
Any ideas?
The issue with GPS was present on update from ics to jb as well and also on 4.0 to 4.0.x and fix was the same as you described it switch on and off location service

In my case it was actually that the location service for Google apps was switched off by default after the update. I didn't need to cycle it or anything, just simply switch it on.

Not sure how to fix that. Are you sure you have an internet connection on your phone? You might need to use the "Clear Data" option, rather than just "Clear Cache".
Hey, man, thanks a lot, I've been banging my head for 6 hours until I found your post. I was minutes away from resetting my phone to factory defaults. You saved me a lot of trouble. Kudos to you!
Thanks for the heads up on this!
Thanks
I too had emptied the google apps framework for the update to 4.2.1 on the galaxy nexus, this helped me out. Thanks!
Awesome
It worked for me in a Galaxy S3 i9300. Thank you so much!
Hello,
I am new to this forum. I tried my best to look for my problem and could not find it.
I rooting my samsung galaxy s III to the mr robinson jellybean 4.1.1
Everything works fine and dandy. But the problem is that my navigation does not work at all. It always says, looking for GPS. But the gps does work because direction maps work fine. I was wondering if anyone knew what to do with this. Thanks!

Mine works fine on my end, but on the other hand I did a clean install. Then restored all apps from Titanium. I would reflash.
What should I do?

Okay sounds good. Should I just reflash the same way? I can do that. Or is there a better root that you recommend? I would like to get a hot spot to work if that is possible as well. I wonder if that is possible. But it is hard to find out what exactly each different root does.
I had the same problem at one point. Try this.
In settings my Google account > location settings, allow Google apps to find my location. Make sure its checked
Hmm Maps still not working

So I tried doing that and it worked but on the road randomly it died out again and said the same thing. Do you think it lost the GPS signal or it just isnt working. Does anyone else have this problem?

Open Play Store. Hit your menu button and select "my apps". This will give you a list of all the apps installed on your phone. It will tell you what apps there are updates for and what apps are already updated.
Works, but noticed something up with my music player

Cool! The maps work fine! Great, thanks a lot. But I did noticed something. When I play music from the music player, every couple of songs it just stops playing, but says its playing. I reset the phone it works again but then the same thing happens. When I close the program it works fine as well but the in a bit the same issue comes. Does anyone know anything about this. Thanks.

I've had my Nexus for a few months now and all of a sudden I started experiencing the same problem the other day. If I check the weather card on Now it picks up my current location but when I 'drill' into the detail all of a sudden I'm in France! Similar thing when searching, I get asked if I want to change my default google page from UK to FR and I get prices in € instead of my usual £.
I've tried rebooting, turning the GPS off and on, disabled and then re-enabled my location tracking settings... all to no avail. I've also set my home and work locations on Google...
If anyone has the vaguest inclination about what might be going on, I'd be much obliged to hear about it.
Thanks

WTH??
I always think it's better just to answer the question, with an appropriate response.
Instead, there's some useless banter posted.
How about you "so called" senior members, just answer the individuals question? Want to build your reputation in a positive way, then help out. It was a simple question.
If you want to post banter, then go to another site please.

Eh, when you;re new, people expect you to use Google and find the answer. You'll get used to it. Don't worry, there's a lot of good folks here who are willing to help.
Ok, in answer to your issue, I guess a Mod has to come in and do it.
Go to Settings/Locations.
Turn off the Provider (auto, or use Provider Settings) option, and enter your city manually. (make sure you also select your time zone)
You may also have to do this with your weather widget and do a city search under it's options.
The reason being, if everything is set to auto, based on Provider location, they may not have a base exactly in your City. So we have to set one manually. Or they will use what ever is closest.

Excellent, glad to hear there are good folk
RE your fix, I'll give it a try. Just to say in the meantime though that I've got a Galaxy Nexus as well (getting on a bit now admittedly) and that's absolutely fine with locations etc. Also the Nexus 7 has been perfectly fine for the past few months... I only mention that because of your point about provider location etc.
I'll give it a try and let ya know though.
Oooh and as I've typing my response I've just been alerted to the fact that I've got 4.3 ready for installation (must've just come through OTA) - perhaps that'll jump-start things into working again.
Thanks again

Location on nexus 7 way wrong
I got my problem resolved. I called Google help and they had me do a factory reset. Initially, that didn't work. I went into apps and drilled down to maps app and cleared all cache and data. I am now seeing the maps app pinpoint me in my exact location. Weather app is also precise. Thaanks for the help.

Ha Ha. The only thing more drastic than that, is to re-flash the whole ROM :silly:
Gotta love Google Support. Hard reset is their first advice. Unfortunately, be aware, when you do that, you lose all personal data, so you should always back up your information, docs, photos, etc. just in case.
Location on nexus 7 way wrong
As it turns out my problem did not go away. I turned off the Nexus; back on a few hours later. My eyes went buggy as I went into maps, see it load beautifully to my location and then, in a flash, move back to that same location about 50 miles from my location. I don't get it. Help.
Does anyone have this issue? After about 60hrs of reboot Google Now just stops to display any cards and it is just blank with the google searchbar on top...
I have Google Now enabled and never had this issue before. Tried clearing cache and app data and that doesn't fix the issue. Only reboot helps. This is annoying. Any help is appreciated. I am running stock Android 4.3 (no root).
Thank you!

Ive had this happen before. I dont really know what causes it, it just fixes itself usually. I did, however, find that at one point I had both of my devices with Google Now and they had different settings enabled and it was messing up what was shown. That was a while ago and I think the settings sync now. But you never know. If you have two devices, try that. Also, you can try to clear the data for the app and see if it fixes it.
I have tried clearing the app data and that didn't do much. Still having the issue. I will check the settings on my tablet for Google Now, maybe you are right and this is what causes my problems. Thanks for the idea-will give it a try.
It's generally "normal" I think.
I really wish Google would give us more control over Now... Soon?

I'm also experiencing this "issue". I use Galaxy Note II and CarbonRom 1.8 here. Decided to search Google for this and found this thread.
I thought it was due to a lot of ROM flashing I was doing here, so maybe it eventually messed up my Google account info on servers and made my Google Now became empty some times, but I realized that probably it's some technical difficulties on Google Now server itself, since it's happening with more people.
Let's hope for an update to solve this. It's pretty annoying!

Did this issue get resolved for you? I have found the problem and I temporary fix.
The issue is related to the new Google play services 3.2..they changed location to use wifi as Android 4.3 has it on at all times.. This is to save power from using GpS.. Anyway if your not running 4.3 and have wifi on all the time your location based cards will not work...
The solution, downgrade to Google play services 3.1 Everything works great on 3.1..

This issue got solved by itself here, but thanks for the tip anyway!
By the way, I'm using 4.2 here and in fact I don't have wifi enabled all the time. Need to say also that Google Now in Brazil is not sooo much great, it does not have so many services, only the basic ones, so maybe it had something to do with Brazilian Google servers issues on that time.
