[Q] tablet only use the internal memory not my SD card - Acer Iconia Tab A100

my a100 only install apps and other crap i downloaded on the internal memory.
but i wanna use my SD card iinstead
internal is only 5 GB i have a 16GB memory for god sake.
is there anyway to make this thing use my SD card
thank you

This is in a different forum for the Vizio Tablet that mounts the external SD card the same way. Someone who is a dev or at least smarter than myself might confirm that this will work.
You could change the mount points of your internal and external sdcards
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/vizio-tablets/26457-sd-card-mount-point-modification-discussion-post-root-2.html
Personally I like to save my external SD cards for backup

No. This question has been answered many times. No, not for running applications. The /mnt/external_sd is intended for multimedia and book files.

Maybe i'm wrong, because i've an 8gb version, but... Did you both tried Link2SD app?
I'm using and it works like a charm... i just needed to create a 2gb ext2 partition on external micro SD...

Just wondering why 2gb only? I assume this is just gonna be 1st (maybe unused?) and the other 30gb is the 2nd partition where you will have Link2sd transfer the app over?

I don't know if this is why he specifically only did 2 gigs but ive heard partitions for ap2sd over 2gigs can cause the sd card to wear a lot faster, but i have never tested myself

Once I find a way to have my mount script run on start up, I'll post this mod that remounts the external sdcard as internal storage. Havnt found a way just yet to remount the internal to the external though.

Wow thats great!!! My tablet is usually always on unless I did something that requires reboot. so having it not remount during boot is not a big deal. Keep us posted man. Awesome job. I was even thinking about getting a 16gb acer but Im just gonna wait to see what you come up with.

As of right now its just binding /mnt/external to /mnt/sdcard so you cant access the internal memory. If I can figure out /mnt/sdcard origional block I should be able to get them swapped so you can use both.
This mod will probably not work on the transformer since it probably has different mount points.

i have superboxpro and it has a apps2sd tab; but that only moves it to the internal sd (1.7 gb)
Maybe you can try Directory Bind: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
Anyway I never try it
Good luck
I don't understand the function of directory bind, is it used to move app from internal to sd card? And are external sd = sd card?

Root it and use Link2SD.
You'll need to partition your microSD into 2; I recommend formatting the 2nd partition as ext2.
Lots of tutorials on how to do this.
Plus, you can configure Link2SD to automatically migrate newly installed apps to the SD card.

As you can see from my screen shot, those apps checked have been moved....

If course, you can also use Link2SD etc, but you need to create second partition on SD!!!!

There are drawbacks of native App2SD:
* Widgets moved to SD no longer work
* Apps needing "Boot Complete" intent no longer work
* When attaching the external storage to PC via USB cable, all apps on SD are not available
Link2SD has no such drawbacks. It does require 2 things:
1. Rooted phone
2. 2nd partition on the microSD
Those prerequisites, however, need to be done only once, and afterwards Link2SD can fully automate everything.

Hi pep....
Yeah, native apps2SD has drawbacks for sure, but the OP asked how to move apps to SD, and it is a simple built-in solution, requiring nothing more than checking a box in settings....
It is surprising how many ppl don't know about it!!
But I agree, Links2SD is a more complete solution!!
Isn't there a work round which allows use of Internal Storage as Apps partition??

if your phone has rooted, use link2SD and choose autolink in setting
Well if your rooted cause my phone is and I use App2SD and Force2SD also Titanium backup to move my apps to my external SD, there isn't really a way to force your apps to automatically install on the external SD and you usually have to manually move them but TB has one where you can move all of them in 1 go so that helps.
Hi....I have tried this Link2SD cos I just got a larger SD card...
My phone is on Stock ROM still, rooted, and original vold.fstab..mount points as per original...and using Arcos latest CWM Recovery [6.0.??].
The App works great, linking is perfect, and any app linked shows in the list in the App as linked to SD...
Storage Info shows the ext3 partition as SD Card 2nd Part. [/data/sdext2]....
just for example purposes I show 1 app linked... Antutu.....it works perfectly!!!
However, CWM does not back up this partition in Nandroid, getting the "sd-ext does not exist" message during backup.....
And to prove this I deleted Antutu, and attempted an extract from Nandroid with TB....
It shows a backup, but attempting to extract it results in TB hanging..presume it shows it becos of whatever sym-linking is there shows app as being in Internal.
I have been able to extract this app from Nandroid made without L2SD.
So, on stock ROM, is this possible?
Do I need scripting support which is missing in Stock?
Is Stock kernel OK for this app?
Is there a problem with CWM not backing up the ext3 Partition on SD??
Thanks in advance!!!
Edit...pics are not showing... Tapatalk problem...
Will reupload later when home...
Yiz get the gist anyway!!! I hope!!!

Well, I never tried extracting anything from a nandroid backup before... but if I use TB's own backup/restore facility, TB has no problem at all.
(I just tried it myself : Uninstalled Maxthon via TB, reboot (full, not quick), restore).
Of course, after restore, Maxthon is no longer linked to SD, and I bet there are Maxthon leftovers in the SD, but nothing more serious than those.

[Q] 64GB SDXC card not working

I have an AT&T SGH-i747, I ordered a class 10 64GB SDXC card, when I put it in my phone it says "preparing sd card", then immediately says "it is now safe to remove your sd card". After several attempts to format the card (FAT, FAT32, exFAT and NTFS, which my computer does recognize) it started to tell me that my card was removed and to please insert another one once I insert it. There has never been an option to format the card in the storage section of settings, only to mount it, which yilded this result "prepating sd card" then immediately said "it is now safe to remove your sd card". I have serched through posts on this site and others, they all work under the premise that the card is no good and to exchange it, but my computer reads it just fine, so the card an't be bad, or they say that it comes formatted with exFAT which certain ROMs can't read, but I formatted it to FAT32 with no results. I am running Ariel ROM 2.07 with Ktoonzes Kernel. Any assistance you could provide would be GREATLY appreciated
64 GB SD card isn't compatible with a 16gb GS3.

Have you tried verifying the card's indicated space and speed? If you received a faulty or fake one, files would rewrite over and over again on something like 1gb of data (causing some files to not be readable). As asked above, where did you get the card from?

If you have e a custom kernel I.e faux, chances are it doesn't support exFAT.. In fact.. Most winxp computers don't either...
Assuming ur card is legit you need to get an adaptor and put it in a computer and format it to FAT.
I had the same problem with my sandisk 64 gb class 10.
I'd you look at my posts you will find step by step instructions on software I used etc.. Can't find it now on my phone.

I got the card from some Amazon vendor, the first one didn't work at all, returned it and bought from a different Amazon vendor. Poped it in the phone and it says "preparing sd card" then immediately "it is now safe to remove your sd card". In storage settings I have the option to mount the card, but I just get those two messages again. Formatted to FAT32 because I saw exFAT was propriety from MS with the same results, I used minitools partition manager I believe it's called. My computer was able to read and write to the disk until I allowed Windows to reformat it to ntfs, which took hours to reach 25 percent so I force canceled the format and pulled the card. From that point forward minitools said it was a bad disk and Windows froze when it would try to read it. I am using a Windows Vista computer which does not give me the option to format the disk to FAT32, only exFAT and NTFS. I am running Ariel 2.07 ICS with KToonzes kernel. I have a rooted stock nand backup or am willing to change ROM's if it has something to do with that, can't test that though as I've already returned the card. I also would rather not spend $100+, I'd rather just get a 32GB for $20. Thanks for all your help so far, I hope this helps you help me.

It appears to me that when you forced cancel, your 64GB micro usb got corrupted (which should not have happened, but did) that's why your Windows cannot read it. May be some one with a Win7 machine can reformat it for you. It could be something real simple like the MBR string on your card.
If it is taking hours to format NTFS then there is still something wrong with your new card as well

I guess I just got two bad cards then, or maybe the mini tools is to blame... guess I'll try it one more time. Thanks everyone.
I formatted my Sandisk 64GB MicroSDXC card to FAT32 (64k cluster size) with GUIFormat ( http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm). Even after that, it took some finagling to get it to work. I think I had to clear dalvik and also clear cache and data for the media related system apps... after that and a couple reboots (to force a media scan), it worked fine since. Make sure to allow enough time between reboots to allow media scan to complete (around 15 mins should be plenty), otherwise the media data may get out of whack again. Keep in mind that if you format your card correct BEFORE flashing your ROM, you probably won't have to jump through hoops to get your media data corrected.

For a 64gb card it is best to format it in a PC as xfat filesystem to get android to read it. The phone and recovery format options are designed for up to 32gb SD cards and don't like to play nice with 64gb cards

Just a note on this. If you format it as xfat recovery won't work with it. Unless something has changed, no recovery supports it and from what I read it won't support it because of licensing issues. I just format the card from android and everything works good.

My 64gb was formatted so only 32gb worked in android for that same reason, I ended up using my 64gb on my Xbox in a USB reader and bought a 32gb class 10 for my phone. If you format it in the phone only 32gb is readable unless you have a device with 64gb support. I haven't tried the 64 with ICS or JB yet so it may be enabled on one of them but GB it was limited to 32gb. There was a work around but it caused a lot of data corruption. Formatting it to ext4 in a Linux distro may make it functional but a lot of older devices don't support ext4. There's a few new devices with sdxc support that will use up to 128gb sdxc cards. I don't know what you'd really need a 64gb card for unless you store a lot of video, between my 32gb and my internal storage I've barely used 12gb and I have a ton of crap on there. My biggest file is a 5gb tibu folder. I move all my pics and stuff off every week tho so I don't lose them in case I lose or destroy my phone somehow. My dads using a 64gb card in his sgs3 ill have to ask him how he got it working in his et4g before he upgraded, cuz he's had that card for almost 18months and has had it working across several devices, evo 3d, moto photon, et4g, galaxy note and now his sgs3. I just don't know how he ended up formatting it so they would read it. I don't need that much storage bad enough for the hassle it was to try and get it working. Hell I could do just fine with a 16gb plus the internal since I store most of my stuff internal anyways, only thing I keep on my external is my tibu folder and roms, mods and
nandroids
We are legion, for we are many.

I have the SanDisk 64 and formatted it from the phone when I was on GB. I get 59.46GB free after formatting. Been using it since that time with no issues. Been on ICS only since FF18 but it works fine in every release since.

Increase Ram using external Micro sd?

I want to know, is there a Way to Increase e4gt Ram using external Micro sd?
I have a Sandisk 32gb class 10 Micro sd on my e4gt...

No. Wrong kind of memory. An SD card is not and never will be RAM.

Storage, what its designed for. Its no different than partitioning your hard drive in your computer. It just splits the storage volume up. Older phones with less internal app storage people would partition their cards to use a2sd and gain extra app space thats it nothing else flash memory is like rom(random operating memory) a space for storage and containing filesystems. RAM (random access memory) is the space applications are executed in, it has a much higher read/write speed allowing the application to function without lag. You could put a swap space on sd but it still isn't RAM it will only be utilized by idle applications to hold them open while they are dormant. Android is already efficient in killing open apps to free RAM when needed and swap doesn't really work the same way it does on a pc. 9/10 times andorid kills the app instead of utilizing the swap space.

What I read when that person doing partition to the Micro sd is that He try to make the Micro sd as extended memory/ram by change it to EXT3 format & with Help of Minitools software..

I think you need to read up on what ram is. Ext3/4 are filesystems and have nothing to do with ram unless youre using a ramdisk.

I think what you are talking about is swap. Which this phone has more than enough RAM that swap is not needed. Swap partitions kill SD cards anyways.

I don't know if I really wrong, but it's the proof. Here's the step-by-step how that man explain to increase the RAM using micro SD.
*)It's originally in Indonesian Language, but I translate it to English..
First Version:
1. first backup the data on your SD Card. because the SD Card will be on Delete and Format Partition.
2. Download Software for making partition, you can use the Mini Tool Partition Wizard or EASEUS Partition Master
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
3. Install MiniTools on PC
4. Connect your phone to PC
5. Delete partiton SD Card and then click Create Partition
6. Because I just 2GB SD Card so I only make 2 pieces patition. First Partition Using Ext3 format. Partition for linux at 500Mb. Used to install / move apps from phone memory to SD Card
7. The second partition the rest of the first partition, the FAT32 format. Used to store data such as office, mp3, videos etc..
8. If the SD Card Has a fairly large you can make a 3rd partition Swap format. Swap partitions are used to support the work of RAM. and a swap partition usually made โ€‹โ€‹of 2 times the RAM.
10. When finished click APPLY on the top left corner to execute the partition that has been created.
Second version:
Material that you need:
1. dtapp signed
2. A2SDGUI
3. Have already partitioned sdcard
The steps:
1. move the material to the sd card
2. Enter to recovery, choose mount storage and change to:
_unmount / caches
_mount / data
_unmount / system
_unmount / sdcard
_unmount / sd-ext
3. If you done, back to start menu and install dtapps2sd cwm-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip who already downloaded earlier. . finished and reboot the system.
4. Then install A2SDGUI open a2sdgui zipalign on boot and set swappiness 60-65. Then move to Dalvik tab, select the Dalvik cache on sd ext, click move. allow it to reboot. See Picture.

}
5. Wait wait until the reboot is complete.
6. After your phone ready, enter terminal emulator type this command.
_su
_a2sd datasd
let it reboot
7. If done, it can be checked in titanium back up.
And this the result.
Third version:
1. Download Application RAM Expander
2. Your phone has rooted.
3. The SD Card has swapped.
4. Install Application Ram Expander
5. Open RE , choose Optimal Value then swap active
6. Ram so relieved now

even if you could, tricking the OS to use sd as ram would be awful.
its impossible to use an sd card as RAM. anything that tells you otherwise is lying. the only way to get more ram is to buy a better phone.

SD Card Issues w/Zenfone 2

Every time I restart my phone, a notification pops up that says external storage inserted (SD card). However, I have not removed it. This is quite annoying, is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone know what causes this and how to disable it? Also, when I try to get Titanium Backup to backup my files to the external SD card, it will not work. I have plenty of free space on the SD card, it tells me I have 15.8 GB free on the External SD card so this is not the issue. I never had any problems backing up to the SD card previously on my Galaxy S4. Any help would be awesome!
Thanks,
Drew
That's normal, when you do a power off and on, it will always tell you the SD card is mounted/inserted. Did that with my Galaxy S5 also.

To access your External sd card properly you need to have rooted your phone and run the Kitkat sd card fix (available in playstore). This is an issue google has done as they want everything stored on the cloud and to stop us using sd cards altogether.
Unless you run this most apps will have issues writing to the sd card...

i am using titanium backup with internal and then cut and paste in external...i know its is annoying..but no other option for now..[as far as i know and searched]
and that notification kindoff annoying,i cant find solution till now...
Ansebovi after I wrote this post, I did some more searching and found a thread saying to download and install an app called folder mount from the play store.. It requires root but if you have that it will work. It asks you to patch the android system 2 times then reboot two times after each patch.. After that you have full access to the SD card. I did this and after I was able to backup to the sd card with titanium backup. Hope this helps.

Actually, when you first setup your phone, it even ask you if you prefer to install your apps/games on the system storage or SDCard. You can move apps to SDCard after install, this was added in Lollipop. I know because after Lollipop install on my S5, I was running out of storage space on the phone (16GB only) and had to move apps/games to Removable storage (SD Card). Deleting off your ExtSDCard is limited with 3rd party apps, file managers for example, other then the stock one, when you try to delete a file off SD, you have allow permission via Lollipop to do it, and you only have to allow once. If even tells you how to do it when you try to delete. I use ES File Explorer, no issues deleting or moving files and I'm not rooted.
