I need to see if there is a way that when I pull up my phone contacts (or when someone calls me) that is displays their actual picture. All is shows now is a generic picture (same pic for all contacts). Thank you all for any help and Merry Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) !!
Edit the contact then tap the generic picture.

I'm still not following you...This should be easy, but I'm having a time here...thank you
Go to the contact in your phonebook, and click on them. From here, hit the menu button in the top right hand corner and hit edit. To the right of their name is the generic contact picture. If you click on this, you can add a picture from your gallery Merry Christmas!!

Hey all,
I went back and re-watched the Google/Samsung announcement from October. The video specifically shows Matias as having a text (from the Messages app) from Andy Rubin and Andy's picture shows up there (like how it does for emails).
When I get a text message, I get the little box smiley face icon, and not the person's picture. Has anyone gotten a picture to show up there?
Yes

Yes you have a picture there? Did you have to do anything special? Are you syncing from Google+ or anything?

I am synching with google+, yes, but the contacts who I have pictures for in the messages app are not from google+; they are just normal contacts. I added pictures to the contacts manually.

Hi, I have same problem. When I got SMS I have only "SMS app logo" in notification bar. Can you please advise how to achieve photos there?
I don't have pics showing up either in notification. My contact, Google+, etc all have different pics for the person biti still only see the messaging app icon.

Weird how it is working for jstegeman. I'm getting my contact pics from my Google Contacts syncing. I would hate to have to attach all the pics manually from the phone just to get it to show in the Notifications!
Sorry, all, I just reread this. I'm not getting the picture in my notifications, but in the messaging app itself. I didn't notice the word "Notifications" in the thread title. Apologies for the wild goose chase.

Hey guys I really can figure this out. Can anybody help out?

You have to use another SMS app like Go SMS or something.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
+1, definitely in GoSMS, where you add recipients in compose new message you can select entire groups or all contacts...
You can add a bunch of people to the recipient list just by tapping it

I use hand cent because it has a cleaner look and less childish...

Amen to that, I can't use any of their stuff

GroupText it's in the market.
You can type multiple names in the stock msging app. Just tap on the address bar and keep inputing names.
Mind you, it cant email a group but it can mass text.
I filed a "bug" about this:

What bug? Read posts above yours.
After you enter the first recipient, tap in the TO: field enter another one, then keep adding to your hearts content.

That is a pain in the ass though. Read the report I filed to see why it is.
Not only is it a pain in the ass, but there's also a limit to how many people you can add when using that method.
I can't believe Google still hasn't given us a built-in option to see a list of all contacts with tick boxes next to their names for easy selection. My Symbian phones from 2004 could do that.
Okay this isnt a complete solution for jb but if you use Facebook for alot of your numbers then this will work for you. Unfortunately for now haxsync doesn't sync numbers just pics, statuses, etc etc so what i did was use an app called super backup: sms and contacts and backup contacts in an ics rom that supports fb sync then flash the jb rom and restore contacts with the same app. You should have them all and it actually makes them into regular contacts so you dont have to use fb anymore for them. If you want hq pics then use haxsync or any of the other fb picture sync apps

Nice find, I wish I saw this while I was still on ics. I made a post about this a few weeks ago but didn't get much input
Thanks

Np and hey you can just backup your current setup and then flash an ics rom that has fb sync and go back to the backup. Itll take maybe 30mins max but its worth it if you need the contacts like i do

I might just use my old sgs2. Sync the contacts there and copy over to my nexus

that works too lol
Thanks for the info
Np. Glad i can help

Another workaround:
I was going to start a new thread on this, but since it's my first post I feared getting flamed..
So, here's the best workaround that I've come across for phone number syncing for Facebook on Jelly Bean..
1. Go ahead and sync your facebook contacts by clearing the Facebook app cache and adding your Facebook account to your phone. It will ask you to sign in, and then it will sync contacts without phone numbers.
2. As you try to dial someone's number and you realize that it's on Facebook instead of Google, open up the Facebook app and search for that contact by clicking the "three horizontal line" icon on the top left.
3. The contact will have a phone icon next to their name if they have their phone number stored on Facebook. Go ahead and click the phone and it will bring their number up in the dialer.
4. On the bottom right of your dialer, click the "three dot" icon and select "add to contacts". You know what to do from there.
It's not the best solution, but it's the best i've seen so far. You won't have all of your contacts at once, but you can search for the ones that you know right off the bat, and then search for them as needed later on.
Thats a really long process lol i have over 300 friends so that would take forever. My process saves you alot of time and has the added benefit of turning the fb contacts into regular Google contacts.
Also haxsunc doesn't sync numbers so alone it was useless to me lol

All of your facebook contacts can be dialed directly from Facebook. So just keep them on the facebook app until you need to dial a specific Facebook contact, and then take the extra 2 seconds and save it to Google contacts before you dial it.
Plus, I'm sure everyone doesn't need that weird kid from science class from the 7th grade's phone number. This way you can pick and choose who to add as you need it.
Even if there is eventually a way to sync every facebook contact, i much prefer this method.
Thank you for the tip
I'm sure this has been answered but the 'search' function on the app sucks. Anyway, the contact photos look horrible when on a call or any time bugger than a thumbnail. Is there anyway to make them better? Not so pixilated?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I personally ask all my friends to send me a good HD picture of them... set it as their contact pic and I'm set .. if anything look thru your friends Facebook pictures and press the menu within the picture ... set as... contact picture... there you go.

Take/use a pic with a higher res....
I feel like I'm missing something terribly obvious to warrant asking a question like this
I'm using fb pics to sync with contacts so maybe that's the problem.

Hey guys
Anyone know how to save images in Facebook application ????
Thank in advance
Sent from my GT-I8150 using xda app-developers app
AFAIK,you cant save pic from the facebook app. But you can save pic if you open it from the browser
Sent from my GT-I8150
You can save a picture when using the Facebook app.......
But.......
Only if you have a dropbox or CX cloud storage account and the dedicated app installed.
What you do is browse fb as normal, locate the picture you want to save, touch it so that it opens on it's own (without the comments or other text appearing) then press the phone menu button and select "share". You'll then see (depending on what you have installed on your phone) a list of apps that you can use to "save" your selected image. So although saving the image locally (to your phone) may not be an option, it is possible to "rip" an image from fb........
Alternatively, you can browse for and select the image (as detailed above) and simply take a screenshot......
