Contact pictures - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm sure this has been answered but the 'search' function on the app sucks. Anyway, the contact photos look horrible when on a call or any time bugger than a thumbnail. Is there anyway to make them better? Not so pixilated?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

I personally ask all my friends to send me a good HD picture of them... set it as their contact pic and I'm set .. if anything look thru your friends Facebook pictures and press the menu within the picture ... set as... contact picture... there you go.

Take/use a pic with a higher res....
I feel like I'm missing something terribly obvious to warrant asking a question like this

I'm using fb pics to sync with contacts so maybe that's the problem.

Does any one know how to make pictures bigger and clearer on caller id?

I'm pretty sure there's an app for that.
For clearer pics you just need better pics, as for bigger pics good luck.i tried to make full screen caller id no luck so far and havent seen anyone else mess with it. I'm hoping someday someone gets us full screen caller id
I hear most full screen caller id apps are not very good

ice noticed that if on your previous phone you linked pics to a contact and then switch phones the pic will be thier but pixelized, you have to relink the pic.

I, also, would love to see this worked in? (I'm no dev). This has always kinda bugged me about android.
Glad to see this thread and others' opinions.

hmm...that's weird...I just tried it, and it worked fine for me. Oh, maybe it's because your trying from your phone...my fault. The name of the app is "Full Screen Caller ID". It was a link to the market page, but you can just search it in the market, and find it that way also.
yeah i have tried this one(free version) and have even tried to rip out and rework frame work to mimic this on the phones caller id (have yet to make it work)
If you sync your contacts with Google, the problem is that Google Contacts only supports low-res pics. Even if you put a high res pic on a contact on your phone, it will sync it to Google, which will downconvert it, and sync it back as a crappy looking picture. It sucks, and it's infuriating that they haven't fixed this after years of people complaining.
One workaround on a sense ROM is to create a second contact as a "Phone" contact, put the picture on that one, and link the two. That way all the important info is still synced to Google, but it uses a local picture for the phone. Another alternative is to turn off contact syncing altogether, but then you'd need to be sure you have another backup solution in place.

Instagram and Facebook

Anyone know how to import your instagram photos to Facebook. I have tried sharing it to Facebook, but it will only give a link. I see that some people can import their pictures to a Facebook album called "instagram photos." Can anyone help?

Its handled by Facebook. Whenever you post to Facebook from the Instagram app, it by default creates an album called "Instagram photos".
Its an app for hipsters.
So chances are, they won't tell you how it works.

Its not, I think its because the galaxy nexus doesn't have Facebook sync support. When I upload a photo, it never appears on my fb account, even though I linked my account.. the same goes with twitter.
Kudos to the person who can find the solution.

Mind sharing how you got it to work? I'm having the same issue...
Haha please elaborate? I must be having a derp moment if it's that easy to figure out...
In the settings under "edit sharing settings" I have it linked to my fb account. However I thought that the photos would automatically upload just like that. But when you upload a new photo, you have to check the fb box, and then upload picture.

Oic... thanks. I thought it was automatic as well

JB facebook sync workaround

Okay this isnt a complete solution for jb but if you use Facebook for alot of your numbers then this will work for you. Unfortunately for now haxsync doesn't sync numbers just pics, statuses, etc etc so what i did was use an app called super backup: sms and contacts and backup contacts in an ics rom that supports fb sync then flash the jb rom and restore contacts with the same app. You should have them all and it actually makes them into regular contacts so you dont have to use fb anymore for them. If you want hq pics then use haxsync or any of the other fb picture sync apps

Nice find, I wish I saw this while I was still on ics. I made a post about this a few weeks ago but didn't get much input
Thanks

Np and hey you can just backup your current setup and then flash an ics rom that has fb sync and go back to the backup. Itll take maybe 30mins max but its worth it if you need the contacts like i do
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I might just use my old sgs2. Sync the contacts there and copy over to my nexus

that works too lol
Thanks for the info

Another workaround:
I was going to start a new thread on this, but since it's my first post I feared getting flamed..
So, here's the best workaround that I've come across for phone number syncing for Facebook on Jelly Bean..
1. Go ahead and sync your facebook contacts by clearing the Facebook app cache and adding your Facebook account to your phone. It will ask you to sign in, and then it will sync contacts without phone numbers.
2. As you try to dial someone's number and you realize that it's on Facebook instead of Google, open up the Facebook app and search for that contact by clicking the "three horizontal line" icon on the top left.
3. The contact will have a phone icon next to their name if they have their phone number stored on Facebook. Go ahead and click the phone and it will bring their number up in the dialer.
4. On the bottom right of your dialer, click the "three dot" icon and select "add to contacts". You know what to do from there.
It's not the best solution, but it's the best i've seen so far. You won't have all of your contacts at once, but you can search for the ones that you know right off the bat, and then search for them as needed later on.
Thats a really long process lol i have over 300 friends so that would take forever. My process saves you alot of time and has the added benefit of turning the fb contacts into regular Google contacts.
Also haxsunc doesn't sync numbers so alone it was useless to me lol

All of your facebook contacts can be dialed directly from Facebook. So just keep them on the facebook app until you need to dial a specific Facebook contact, and then take the extra 2 seconds and save it to Google contacts before you dial it.
Plus, I'm sure everyone doesn't need that weird kid from science class from the 7th grade's phone number. This way you can pick and choose who to add as you need it.
Even if there is eventually a way to sync every facebook contact, i much prefer this method.
Thank you for the tip

Facebook not syncing photos with contacts

Sorry if this question has already been asked, I searched, which is useless with the xda app and did not find anything. Has anyone else had issue with Facebook contact photos not syncing with contacts in address book?

Facebook decided it wasn't going to place nice with google anymore and throw up all kind of restrictions on the API to sync contact pictures with Android. Basically it's not even supported with JB so that means you need to use a 3rd party app unfortunately. Don't ask me for sources because I read it somewhere when I was researching why my contact pictures weren't syncing. I just tried to go back and find where I read it but couldn't find it.
Personally, I've been using this app on the market: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDMsInJvLndlZWRuZXQuY29udGFjdHNzeW5jIl0.
Yeah, I read about Facebook not playing well with JB. I just use Friendcaster to sync contact photos then remembered to un sync it after it drained the battery not allowing the phone to sleep, if you don't un sync it syncs constantly.

Friendcaster doesn't have the option of how often it syncs? The app I recommended does. I have it set to once a day on wifi only. And you can specify how large you want the picture to be. High Quality photos on the N2 is amazing!!!

Photo app with Picasa support?

I wish the Gallery app on the Nexus 7 showed the photo description or caption or whatever Picasa calls them. No point in adding them if they don't surface on the photo. Yeah you can dig into the menu and see them but that's not good enough.
Going to look for better app but it has to pull images off Picasa web/Google plus. Suggestions welcome.

As far as I can tell justpics can only pull pics off picasa that have been uploaded via picasa. My pics going to Google plus do not show up unless in same account.
I too am looking for a good solution to house my pics someplace and have a good view to see them an the ability to upload them easily from phone. Seems the best thing so far is paying 2.99 a month for a high capacity photobucket account. Free would be ideal
