I am losing about 2-3% battery an hour even when tablet is just sitting there. I've put it in airplane mode to see if it was the wireless but it has not helped. I've even done a factory reset and let it sit there in airplane mode without any of my apps installed and it was still losing about 2%/hr. I monitor the usage and it seems that three different kworker/u:0 process is constantly taking up CPU even during sleep. All I can find on Google is that it is a swapping process. Why it is swapping when system is sitting there is beyond me.
Anyone having similar issue?

Are you on the gen2 build? My tablet ate battery life like crazy when I first picked it up. I tried removing bloat, airplane mode, even factory reset. It didn't go away until I downgraded to gen1 and removed all the un-needed apps, now it will sleep all day in my car in airplane mode and be at 99 to 97% when I get home.
I was on gen2 but I downgraded to Gen1 with all the updates. I only froze all the bloat with titanium backup. Guess I'll uninstall to see if that makes a difference.

Try installing auto airplane mode by don and CPU spy so you can see if your tablet is going into deep sleep
By the way I have gen1 on my tablet
Have you tried the tweaked build.prop by crossix? It did quite a difference for me. He did some tweaks in there to lower the battery drain.
I am using the new buld.prop. I just need to track down whatever process is using kworker/u:1. Seems to be the main battery killer.

I used betterbatterystats on my GB phone to find the source of a battery drain at one point, it shows what apps are holding the CPU in a wakelock and what percentage of time they are held. Don't know if it works with HC though. Haven't had a reason to try it. :-\

Gonna check that app out. I did find one source of battery drain though. It was the Google docs app. Look like it was waking up every once in a while to sync. Uninstalled it and only losing about 1-2% /hr now. Getting better.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Disabling auto-sync and the Background data under settings>accounts & sync can help save some battery as well. You could only enable background data if you really need it (with Market, etc).

Autosync is disabled. Not sure why but Google docs just seems to wake the tablet up every once in a while from deep sleep.

are you using a custom ROM? I'm kinda new to Samsung devices, but I know HTC's Sense was a battery hog, so I'm sure Touchwiz is the same.
Try installing CM9 or AOKP build 37.
I have AOKP Build 37 installed and my battery lasts the whole day.

Wrong section by the way. It should be in Q and A, not general.
Try a different rom, tfe16 has been the best yet for me and agat has an updated version coming soon. Also dont use 4g, wifi, gps etc unless you need them. Solid black background and lockscreen, inverted apps and dark settings. Ditch facebook twitter and crap like that that updates and burns battery.

Go outside and play instead of sitting on your phone youtube'in
Whatever guys that stuff applies to any mobile device. Turn off stuff you arent using, ditch the live wallpapers, worthless apps, and status updates and you get more battery life. You want to surf, download, stream then by all means toggle wifi or 4g on but no reason to leave it on while you are doing nothing. Same goes with gps and bluetooth.

With the exact same setup I have now, I get 20-30 hours on gingerbread. On cm9... I get five.
I don't leave wifi on. Don't leave 4G on. Usually have a minimal screen on time of around thirty freaking minutes.
Don't tell me that I need to cripple my phone (i use it for business). Because there is something clearly wrong. I suspect it is the kernel. I don't have unnecessary apps installed (aside from ones that work great with gb). Don't use a live wallpaper. I do however, refuse to disable auto syncing.
There is clearly an issue with ICS.
I'm not going to turn my smartphone into a paperweight like you suggest.

Not using stuff you don't need is hardly crippling your phone its smart use. I never said anything about turning off auto sync either but you should be selective what you sync. Google plus, drive, picasa all sync pics and other crap in the background without telling you and it kills your battery especially if you are in a bad signal area. Figure out whats draining your battery by using better battery stats and apps like system panel lite http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Honestly though try another rom and do a clean install. If you get 80% less battery life no amount of tweaks will fix it and the ics leaks are good now. Several months ago the battery life was half of gb and now they are about the same.

Trust me, I've done all this. I have the same battery life with ICS now that I did a couple months ago. Going to stock, it is wonderful. Had my battery tested by sprint yesterday, it's fine. So, i'm just waiting for a real kernel and hoping for the best.

I get terrible battery life on alpha 5. Change to a stock kernel might help.
Kobridge's tweaks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668853 along with Badass Battery and CPU Spy have helped me trace battery drainers. Also wholeheartedly agree turning off apk's and functions that are of specious value helps greatly ie.( auto rotate, auto brightness, dialing back on sync; etc.)
Good luck
Well, I thought the battery life on my T989D (Canadian version) would be better after installing a ROM (Darkside EVO3, Venom ROM) but after about an hour of usage (phone calls, texting, no video, no WiFi, no GPS).

Is this your first flash? Ive have flashed plenty of times, battery life, no matter what ROM, cannot be judged the first, second or third day of usage. Give it five days, and report back. When I used darkside, I was getting 30 hours, with moderate use. Give it time, use your battery till it dies, and charge it fully while off. You will see a difference.
On my fourth day, but I just had to reinstall the ROM..
Now I'm using my carriers ROM, done by Derek Jay.
Hopefully it had something to do with it, not sure.
But I have read that ics and the t989 were having problems.

Koooba, i just posted in another thread about battery issues, check it out here. I been running Derek's Roms since Digital Warfare and never any really issues with his Rom. i would suggest to calibrate the battery, turn off sync on all apps (Facebook is one of the worst) and keep brightness down to a 20% or whatever is comfortable for you. No joke, i get 17 hrs avg on his roms. People been known to get 24hrs+ on his roms and those are the TMo version...Telus is suppose to have be even better.

one of the ways these guys are getting such good battery life is by turning off data. that's a huge one.
btw - i'm on a D as well, and I get consistently just under 3 hours screen on time, and i charge every night. usually end with about 15% left.
it could be due to the horrible signal in some of my university buildings... or the fact that i just leave wifi on all day. but I haven't really been able to crack that barrier.
it will always take about a week for your kernel and phone to settle down.

Most battery drains are from apps constantly running in the background. Use better battery stats and gsam battery monitor and I guarantee after a day of usage, you will track down what is killing it. Widgets, auto syncing of apps and Google are the biggest culprits of battery drain.

Well, after installing GSAM and checking off the option to prolong battery life in the default settings, the battery is a bit better, but not great.
When you turn off data, do you guys turn off ALL data?
Because I have every possible option off...
syncing, GPS, bluetooth, the only data I have on is the basic network data I would think I need to receive text msgs.

Yeah I got all that off when I don't use it. If I get no signal, I put it on airplane mode. I found even if you turn off data and you are in a building with poor signal or none it kills it, even with data off. Do you use any third party apps for text, phone or anything. What launcher do you use? Facebook on manual sync, emails too?
What does app sucker say is draining?

That's crazy then, because I'm LUCKY if I can squeeze out 5-6 hours and I turn off EVERYTHING.
I even frosted GTalk through Titanium, I don't have use Facebook, so I disable that app altogether.
Something definitely has to be wrong with my phone then.
I got the battery replaced for a new one, so dunno what's going on.
Just checked out your post, not sure what badass to governor setting is...?
I just installed the Venom Kernel over the Derek's Evo updated ROM.
All syncing is off, GPS is off as well.
Has to be an issue with my phone and ICS, because it originally came with Gingerbread.
Or so I've come to believe it's unfair anyway, I just don't get how some people achieve 19+ hours or so on battery life, with 'heavy' usage as well like they claim.
I have posted some battery usage screenshots if it might be of any help.
When I was using the phone out of the box with an earlier stock firmware, it was the same as of now, even after my current XXDLL4 update. I always kill background apps, from ram and from running tasks, turn GPS off and other unused features, e.g. NFC, S beam, you name it. Like for example with these screenshots, I was using the phone moderately all day, a bit of browsing, some phone calls and a few games. Is 3 hours of screen time supposed to be normal with this battery reading? I don't get it Is there anything I can do to get these long hour performances on battery that everyone else seems to be getting with their note 2?
Im on stock unrooted 4.1.2 rom. Battery life was decent until I went to settings, application manger and then to all and disabled apps that I don't use including some widgets. Eg Simple alarm, learning hub, remote controls, Samsung sync etc and battery is significantly better.
With Whatsapp and Facebook running on the back ground all the time. .. I still manage to get 6hrs screen time.
However you must understand battery life is very much subjective to your signal strength, usage and the apps running in the background. Generally 4 to 5hrs on screen time with heavy usage such as 3d gaming etc is considered pretty good.
As long your phone can get through the day with a single charge, I would say that's good enough and enjoy every features of the phone without worrying about battery life
Hope I helped.

Thanks for your thoughts, another issue that I notice I'm having is this mediaserver battery drain, I've tried performing a few fixed including removing album art, trying .nomedia, even removing all music altogether, but nothing seems to work. I'm starting to believe all these people with 10+ hours of screen on time have been photoshopping the screenshots! LOL! Seriously, the battery life is starting to resemble an old iPhone 4 that I used to own.

Are u able to identify what are the apps constantly running in your background?
I highly suggest u to do these few things for now.
1) update your rom to the latest 4.1.2 rom provided in your country. Go to settings, about device and go to software update or download Samsung kies, connect your phone to samsung kies if you have the latest stock rom.
2) Turn off sync.
3) Run through all your apps settings and phone settings. Turn off unneeded notifications
4) Go to application manager, scroll to all and disable whatever stuff you dont use. If it breaks something, just re enable it.
5) After all of above, go to application manager again, scroll to running applications and see what is running in your phone background.
6) if you have problems with media scan, go to application manager. Scroll to all and clear cache of the following apps. Download provider, downloads, media storage, gallery and drm protected storage and reboot the phone.
Another small tip is I diabled google search, Dropbox, disabled online search under contact settings, disable sync with wifi in gallery settings, disabled talkback, turn off all notifications in google plus settings. Turned off Facebook notofications and auto update.
Let us know if it works for u

I think your stats are okay. Because you're using H+. If you switch to 2G you'll see massive gain in backup.
Besides, 4.1.2 literally killed 15-20% backup from 4.1.1, don't know what was ****ing point, but Samsung did it! Just keep monitoring via Better Battery Stats, which apps/process are causing wakelocks, and then do the needful.
'Swyped' from my GT-N7100
It seems like there is too much wakelocks, judging by your stats. You are not rooted, right? If so, it's impossible to diagnose the wakelocks without simply guessing and eliminating which app is causing them.
The maps wakelock caused by Google now, along with AudioOut_2 and media scanner are among the most dire. The first can be "fixed" by disabling location services.

Just for your information. Your battery performance really below par which note 2 it should be.
2hours plus on screen time and 10 hours operating time left 5% was totally unacceptable.
With super heavy use, note2 at least must be able to last 10hours++ with 3.5 hours on screen with 20% left.

Hello guys.
I'm stumped at a battery drain issue that my wife's been having on her S3.
After doing my own standard tests like BBS, disabling bloat, checking running services, etc. , the only thing that caught my eye was that her device stays at high cpu (900mhz range) for way too long. When checking the cpu stats usung System Panel, I noticed that her cpu never dips below 500mhz, but cpu usage is low (3% or so).
How do I find out what's triggering the cpu clock to jump?
She's unrooted, which I know doesn't help with troubleshooting, but I don't want to mess around with her phone.
I should add that she has very few third party apps and they are all big name apps like evernote, Dropbox and Sugarsync.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. Her Dropbox is set to never sync. She has Sugarsync for backing up photos and videos, but that's only when charging.
The problem isn't cpu usage, but the cpu clock speed never slows down and doesn't deep sleep the way it should.

She got the phone over two months ago and all updates were done then. She's had great battery life, but has been complaining about battery life for the last two weeks or so. She's been using a pebble watch with it, but I'm quickly having doubts that the watch is the cause of this drain.
Even now, I've had her phone sitting next to me and deep sleep is only 74%.
