Hi all,
On the HTC HD2 I can show a address from the contacts in google maps mobile, any idea how this is done?
Not the standard web page but the mobile app.
Microsoft Contacts Application
Hi Dave
Install the Google Maps to the main memory of your device. Then go to the Microsoft Contacts application on your phone. You need to scroll down to the contact you want with an address entered. Then select menu on the right soft key and you should have something like "Show in Google Maps" in the menu.

Which Api
Hi,
I was after what interface they were using?
Lovin' everything about this phone at the moment but just a quick q' about the satnav element of google maps... On tomtom you can be set your current location as a favourite from the on screen menus, I haven't been able to find a way to do this on this google nav, is it possible?
sorry, can't find a way to edit the thread title - should read Google NaVigation query-
When you get google maps to find your current location, if you click on the 'pin' you should get a new screen with the details of that location etc. In the top right corner is a star, so you can 'star' that location as a favourite, like you do in Gmail, Reader etc.
AFAIK you can't set a Home location though
Indeed you can! Brilliant & thank you very much. I also just noticed the "labs" stuff with all the different buttons, I like this phone the more I get to know it.
Thanks for the quick help, appreciate it.
Anyone found a way of adding safety camera info/alerts to Google navigation?
The last touch to a great application!!
u can add a home, I presume u have your home phone number in it? Add your address to the home contact then use the navigate to contact, home and done
When I do a search in the maps app, say for a McDonalds near an airport, I get the results on the map. I select one of the results and tap the right side of the popup (the half that has the name) and at the top I get a star icon to add to my map locations, and a camera icon to take a photo to submit, but there is no stacked dot icon which apparently I'm supposed to use to add the search result to my contacts. If I tap the left side of the popup of course I get the Directions screen. If I go to the results list, and tap on the result in question, it just goes to the result information screen with the star and camera icons but no stacked dot icon.
How on earth do I add a search result in google maps android, to my contacts? If there's supposed to be a stacked dot icon for me to use to do this, how do I get it back?
I'm running stock ICS, rooted. The only google items I've frozen with titanium backup are:
gmail
google play books
google play movies
google+
Very convenient maps application. It downloads only maps that you need and works offline. It may show coordinate grid and measure map distances. You can track you location and record your route. You can select the location data source to be GPS, Network or both.
You can use search if there is internet connection, moreover all search requests are caches so that they are later available offline. You can also mark some places on the map with a string label and perform search on this marks as well. One more feature: you can use static api link template of the map provider of your choice to use its maps.
Additionally, developer is open for critics and suggestions. Try it!

Is there an option to remove that widget from homescreen?
There must be a solution to this without using a different launcher.
No, if you search on the Mi A1 forum (basically the same device), nobody found a way to remove the search bar from the stock launcher, because it is hard-coded.
The only way is using another launcher (Nova recommended) or modify the stock launcher apk to remove the bar, and replace it.
Maybe this works?
Disable the Google App
Danielle Furry recommends disabling the Google app in settings, which works for a range of Android versions. Here's how it works:
Open Settings, then open Apps
In the All apps list, find Google app, or just Google, tap it and select disable
Reboot your phone and the search bar should be gone!
If you disable the Google app, don't worry about breaking your phone. Apps like Google Play Services are essential for your system (unless you build your OS outside of Google's ecosystem), but your other apps will work fine without the Google app.
Do be warned however, the Google Assistant and voice search depend on the Google app, so disabling the Google app will also negatively affect dependent services such as Google Home, Google Lens, and Google's notifications about weather and transport, for example.

Worked for me. I used Nova Launcher Prima to remap the center button to open the app drawer instead of launching any Googly stuff. This frees up space to put more apps on the bottom row.

In my case too. After disabling app, widget is still there. Tried 1st day when phone coming
Waiting for TWRP and then will freeze google app with Titanium. That always worked in my case
