You should be able to just delete or rename your otacerts file in etc/security/ to stop updates, no?

You can probably find a rooted stock rom somewhere in the development section. Hopefully there's one that's been updated to the latest release.

Yep hopefully there is. It took me for ever to finally root my phone I'm not that great with rooting phones since I'm new to this stuff. Should be somewhat easier to root again.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how to root the S3 after the latest T-Mobile OTA?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842142
I used this method today, but was already rooted before the update and installed it via Kies. You can probably modify the process a bit to work for you.
In Odin, you may have to uncheck the automatic reboot button, as the ROM tries to overwrite the custom recovery image with each reboot before you are rooted.

Be sure to use the thanks button!
This actually is a simple thing to solve! Cybernook over in the Q&A brought this to our attention so big thanks to him!
When you install the update it included these files in /system
recovery-from-boot.p
install recovery.sh
Either change extention to .bak or delete and your recovery will stick permanantly.
From another member in that thread confirming:
*Edit: Worked like a charm. Gentlemen, we have the solution. Thanks due (and given) to cybrnook both here and in the guide

Were you rooted before the ota? Did you already do the ota? If so you root with odin the same way as before. If you are rooted before the ota I would just suggest flashing wildchld rom that updates and keeps root.

Hey doc is install recovery.sh under system/etc/ cuz I only found recovery-from-boot.p under /system?
Sent from my SGH-T999
Yes, sorry bout that. Should be:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
You can delete them or rename them with .bak extension. Either way should work. Remember you will have to reinstall custom recovery one more time, but that should be it!

No, there is no files like that in /system/etc or in /system.
I was rooted before OTA. Installed OTA over Kies without unrooting - no problem. But the question is - what is the safe way of rooting again without wiping?

I actually have not gone this far with the process just yet. I'm testing some theories I have about the updates and how they work first.
I'm not quite sure which is "the best" root method right now but just read the first page and last 5-10 pages in the method threads. You should be able to see which has a higher success rate and go from there.

Are you on cwm or twrp? Then you can just wait for someone to pull it and make it flashable with root already added
as long as i am unrooted and have a stock bootloader, i'll receive the OTA correct?

Update.zip won't be out until OTA starts which will probably be Monday.
However... let me pull an older version .ZIP and see if I can make one for ya.
(Can probably even throw in my root package if do it this way.)
Will also need to remove 2 images so it doesn't toast your existing data.

Most likely just dump /system and /boot and make a nodata flashable zip. Kind of a workaround OTA that will flash in custom recoveries on rooted roms

Hi. I just rooted my phone on FI27. Will I get notification to update to FL24 OTA? If so, is it safe to do the update or do I have to unroot first before updating?
i repacked the FL24 modem into a flashable .zip if anyone is interested,
it can be found over on the FL24 thread at sxtp in the 2nd post - http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=113

Usually the update will wipe the root. So if you accept the ota yiu will be FL24 unrooted. Then you can reapply root.

If I can remember correctly, which it's been what seems like forever, there are two fixes to try (there may be other fixes):
1. Clear cache in recovery and restart and try
2. Attempt to check via Kies.
