[Q] Downgrading 2.3.5 to rootable version - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently completed HTC's latest (Android 2.3.5, Sense 3.0) update on my DHD but I've decided to go down the root and custom ROM road now. The first task I need to complete is a downgrade to a rootable version.
I was following jkoljo's [GUIDE] How to downgrade 1.7x/1.8x/2.x to 1.32.405 and I've completed all the steps in Section 1 and 2b, with all commands executing without error, but I'm still not seeing the temproot '#' prompt (it stays '$') and therefore I cannot proceed with Section 3 and complete the downgrade.
Does anyone know if there is any reason why the same instructions would not work for 2.3.5?
Software Information:
Code:
Android version
2.3.5
HTC Sense Version
3.0
Software Number
3.12.405.1
Kernel version
2.6.35.10-g931a37e
[email protected] #1

Baseband version
12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M
Build Number
3.12.405.1 CL199157 release-keys
The three attachments are screenshots of the output of a re-attempt I did.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just use this. aahk. It has support for 3.12.405.1 now.

Not working aahk ...

I don't think you need to downgrade if you just use the adb way of rooting. It is a universal one so you can push superuser.apk and run an exploit to get root working. Search on xda for tutorials and i hope you'll find them.

Tried AAHK and it worked a charm.
For the record I think the issue may have been that I hadn't set up a goldcard. I was 99% sure my phone was unbranded and I didn't need one

If unlocked with htcdev you need to relock and then run aahk, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486839&page=3

AAHK is a universal, ONE CLICK tool. It does everything on its own, all you need to do is follow the guide in the thread and in the effen manual.
If you can't find the effen manual or the start code, you're probably better off not rooting at all.
If you run into a problem while running AAHK, you have most likely used a tool (read HTCdev unlock). Use that same tool to re-lock bootloader, then run AAHK as explained above. AAHK supports the latest Ace firmware released by HTC, so yes, 3.12 is supported.
If you still run into an issue, you can seek help at the irc support chan for AAHK.

No one answered in the other thread?
Before continuing, make sure the hack kit supports that version of android that you have.
After you have done that, yes, the hack kit will downgrade your os version. That's the way it works.
But if you are asking that question, I suggest for you to read the thread and the manual. And do a search in either the dhd or inspire section, I can't remember which, there was a member who posted each step and was helped all the way. You can use that as a guide in addition to readen the hack kit instructions and effen manual.

So I won't have to do anything but sit back and watch AAHK do its thing? Last time I tried to do it I had to go into HBOOT and had no idea what to do to downgrade it. Please get back to me ,
Thanks

In a sense yes, but first make sure you read the effin manual thoroughly.

[Q] HTC Desire HD Custom ROM

Hi,
I've been doing some research on how to successfully flash my phone and put a custom rom on it. I have a Desire HD running 2.2. This is shown in the bootloader:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.85.0007
Radio-26.03.02.26_M
And from About Phone, I got this:
Software number 1.37.771.3
Now from what I've learnt, I need to downgrade to a earlier version of the software, to 1.32. I looked online, and found that some people said if you used a specific way to turn security off, then certain things won't work.
On looking at some of the threads, some linked to this to turn it off:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
However, is this the best way to do it. I was going to use this webpage:
http://igyaan.in/2011/01/how-to-root-htc-desire-hd-included-downgrade-from-1-72-405-3-to-1-32/
However, when looking oat the CyanogenMod wiki page for the HTC Desire HD (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_HD:_Rooting), they was advising you not to use Visionary (Which the other guide does advise) and use BusyBox, Superuser and Temporary Root.
So, could someone please help. As I'm getting different advise all over.
Thanks
Use the guides here in XDA. You will get the best support. Places like igyaan.in just copy our guides. So your first step is that radio s-off tool.

Thanks. On the tool, it says it needs:
It will not work on 1.72.405.3 or higher build, or new radio (12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M is ok). Downgrade first!!
So as my software number is 1.37.771.3, should that work? My baseband version however is 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M, which while it says is ok, my baseband version has the letter U just after 140e, so what do I do.
Sorry if this has been answered multiple times before.
Of course it is ok, 1.37 is not 1.72 or higher than it. Use some logic, mate
What about the baseband version though? I understand it's nearly the same version, but as it has another letter in the version name, I thought I'd ask before I go ahead or not.
baseband is completely independent from the Rom. There are only those that go "well" toghether and some that dont. But its different for everyone... so. Yeah, most rom cookers give you a recommendation on RadioRom (=Baseband). I'd go with that first. But you can do the Baseband changing stuff later.
That baseband is ok for the tool.

Hi, I tried using your tool. However on Visionary, I tried to temproot, then it restarted the HTC Sense launcher, then I relaunched Visionary and tried to attempt permroot, but it said I had to have a temproot first.
Any help? Thanks
Try temprooting again. It might take a few tries.

Help DHD Root

Hi, I'm a little lost on the site here..
I have been reading up on rooting my DHD and to be honest i dont know if its possible, if it can what rom do i use and what tools..
Andriod Version 2.3.3
HTC sense version 2.1
Software Number 2.50.405.2
Any help & advise would be great.
Thanks
It is possible. Everything you need is in my signature
So downgrade first, then do Radio S-OFF and optionally ENG S-OFF. Then follow the instructions in Radio S-OFF thread (first post) to flash ClockworkMod and finally a ROM.
ENG S-OFF can be done later, too, so you do not really need to worry about it at this point.
I would recommend Android Revolution HD because it is the most popular ROM for Desire HD.
Thank you very much for the quick response ill get to doing it now
After downgrading you can use this guide (Its by the previous gentlemen as well)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11557769
I also recommend Android Revolution HD
Just to confirm I downgraded and rooted yesterday using these guides. Was simple and a brilliant help couldn't have done it without them.

Nope I don't think its possible due to having to place the downgrade zip file on the SD card, and then there is the fact that if its branded you will have to make a goldcard.
Yes I am new to this myself so I apologize if i am wrong but just wanted to try and help you out.

Also think its not possible, after all if there was a way it would be in the guide (a safe way at least). You should wait for your card to arrive and maybe try and get a second card in case you need to make a gold card.

[Q] issues about DHD downgrading from 2.3.5

Hi guys,
I have tried to root my DHD which is on android 2.3.5, software 3.12 but failed downgrading the device
I have followed the tutorials (trying to make a goldcard etc). and I have checked my steps repeatedly so I dont think its my problem. Then I read some threads about the impossibility of downgrading from software number 3.12.
anyone help to clarify on this?

Just follow this guide it works... After you have downgraded and s off you will be abel to root.
Can't you just officially unlock the bootloader now with htcdev.com? Why would you need to downgrade and do all that other stuff?

It is there in the pull down menu ( http://htcdev.com/bootloader ). I didn't try to use it because I'm already rooted.
Unlocking via HTCDev.com is not recommended or necessary, just use AAHK and everythings fine.
You are really S-Off (Official "unlock" leaves your device S-On, it only let you edit some partition) and HTC doesnt recognize you using a Costum ROM etc.
If you unlock officially the register it and your warranty is gone until you lock it again

This method is fully automatic. Including the S-OFF.
Read carefully the instructions.
The only thing I had to do after the program was ENG S-OFF.
Necessary before programming the Radio.

[Q] AAHK Failed..

hi folks,
i've just got a DHD from one of my friend which may or may not got the 2.3.5 originally. (could through update).. and then i decide to use AAHK in order to downgrade it ,root it so that it would be able to flash custom ROMS.
however, my machine DID downgrade to 2.2(maybe) and sucessfully got into the system, after couple settings, it continues to downgrade i guess? finally it says success etc. and i'd decide to turn to the HBOOT menu and discover.
what the AAHK DID changed is that the HBOOT Version changed to 0.85.0024 instead of 2.XX originally. and of course the date change as well, also the recovery was installed.
However, whatsmore worth notice is that it's still SHIP S-ON. I'd decide to ignore it and tried to turn on the device. but it stays at the first screen, which is the HTC one. moreover, i've decide to wipe data and cache in order to test again, fail.
furthermore, i've tried to flash one of my 4.0.3 ROMs and the machine replied success whereas the reboot also remain at the HTC screen .

Ok, let's just start from the beginning: The Hack didn´t fail, you in fact did to follow the instructions in the manual.
1) The downgrade from the 2.3.5 android version is always done to a 2.3.3 android version and 2.1 sense version. A froyo RUU will definetely mess your bootloader.
2) the downgrade is not the whole process but the first part. Once the downgrade is done you should have run the kit again to gain S-OFF and Root.
3) If you are S-ON you can't install a custom recovery, so there's something that is not correct in what you say.
4) Then u say that the device stays at the splash screen and that is HTC ONE, if you phone is the ONE you can´t use the Kit as it is just for ACE (Inspire / DHD).
5) Again, If you are S-ON you CAN´T flash a custom rom...
My advice is that u flash the RUU the Hack Kit used to do the downgrade, run it again and then, run the Hack Kit in order to gain S-OFF and Root. But this time, please follow the instructions in the effen manual....
no no... okay. its my problem of phrasing the sentense..
well.. i donno.. but the fact is i'm able to get into the recovery.. and my phone is definitely DHD..(sorry about my sentence)
and i tried to connect to the computer and redo the AAHK,,but the AAHK just don't recognises my phone 'cause it's the USB debugging is not on..(i'm not able to get in the system, i just use the fastboot..)

AAHK has been retired and has nothing to do with an unlocked bootloader. Find links in my signature on how to achive your goals. Whenever you enter an IRC channel, wait, perhaps people is busy doing something....a minute is not time enough.
My bad, I left immediately, I have very few experience with IRC anyways.I saw you were online, but I couldn't tell if idle or present at the moment.anyways, simplegoldcard tool requires framework, so I'm downloading that atm.I'll be on the IRC too now.
I rushed it.Turns out the Easy Ace Root Tool by glevitan gets everything done on 2.3.5.Just DL it and use it.It supports what AAHK doesn't.(AAHK works best 2.3.3/2.3.4)
Also flashing kernels from the rom zip requires S-OFF, learned that from glevitan's guide too. Thanks to glevitan again. This thread can be locked now.
