Question for the Epic Touch Community - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey guys, so I am due for an upgrade. I am currently using an Evo Shift (i've been an HTC guy for awhile) but I am *really* considering buying the Epic Touch.
Right now, I can get it from Amazon for $86.87, shipped. That is an amazing price! I just have a few questions for you guys:
1) What is your experience with the phone? Love it? Hate it?
2) What does the ROM "community" look like"? I'm currently rocking a really solid build of ICS on my shift and I absolutely love it. In my brief time perusing here, I have not seen any builds for you guys yet?
3) Does anyone have any idea what Sprint has up its sleeve? I know CES is right around the corner and I don't want to buy a phone now and regret it in three-four weeks...
4) Lastly, this device is nearly a year old (if you count it's release in the rest of the world). Even though it is arguably one of the greatest phones you can buy right now, will this last much longer? I know if I always hold out for the "next best thing" I will never end up getting my upgrade...
What are your guys' thoughts? Should I pick this up or wait a bit longer? Right now, if I sent my Shift back to Sprint, they will pay me $88 (essentially making this phone FREE!). Also, since you now have to wait 20 months for an upgrade, that would make this phone essentially three years old by the time I am ready for another upgrade. What do you guys think?
Thanks guys

I also should add that I absolutely despise Touchwiz. I strictly love the AOSP link. Is that on the way soon?
Regards

If you love Aosp, i would honestly tell you to hold off, or go for the Evo 3d.
1. Great phone! Battery life is good for me, very smooth. Signal is a tiny bit worse then my evo 3D. It Wont pick up data in the back room of where i work and the 3D does.
2. The community here, while amazing, is pretty small. We only have partially working cm 7 and mini.
(4G, Bluetooth, GPS don't work on the latest Cm build)
3. I wouldn't worry about it. Otherwise you'll forever be waiting for the next best thing.

Hmm, definitely do not want the Evo 3d. Thanks for your input!

Touchwiz is more understated and with the themes available, i don't even notice. It makes sense look gaudy and old in comparison. Otherwise, Hardware - phone is a straight beast or "Major GO!"

I don't know how you feel about sense, but touchwiz is better imo because it doesn't feel as though it is as deeply integrated as sense was. But I'm with you, I love AOSP but there isn't a fully functional AOSP rom for this device YET.

Sammy will drop one for us. Then I will probably give AOSP a really good go since it would have everything i need. I used to like sense, but that was when I was rocking mattedblues

Someone has ICS on the shift :0 I need to try that.
In all honestly when you put the two side by side like I have its astonishing. The shifts screen is washed out looking and weighs so much more. Not nearly as quick as the epic either.

So you guys think that a fully working aosp ics will eventually happen? Minus 4G of course. I really want to ditch my Shift but I'm torn as to whether I should do it now or wait for the next big thing... Sigh

Once sammy releases their version of ICS, i would imagine an AOSP version full supported with/without wimax? would be right around the corner.

Ok. The only reason I ask is because the original Epic (my woman has one) did not even get CM7 or anything AOSP until about a *MONTH* ago.. She went over a year with no AOSP/CM love

If I were you, I'd wait until the first of the year, until after CES at least. I've tried out the Evo 3D, Nexus S, Photon, and Bionic. The E4GT, IMHO, is the best by far. It does everything I need done.....& more. However, rumors abound (& they are just that) that there are going to be some devices shown at CES that blow the E4GT out of the water. One example being the Intel-Samsung Atom powered ICS smartphone. I would at least see if you are at least interested in any devices coming out of CES, before locking yourself into another 2 year contract.
As for me, I got my E4GT for only a .01ยข from Amazon Wireless, & I am quite happy with my decision, wether we see ICS or not. I am good for 2 years, & by then, who knows, we'll probably see Android 5.0 or even 6.0.
Good luck in whatever decision you make. Happy Holidays.

Touchwiz is a almost entirely just the launcher and a very unobtrusive set of extremely minor modifications, almoste entirely cosmetic. You can easily delete the touchwiz launcher apk and are as close to vanilla Android as you can get from one of the big handset makers.
As far as this years cycle is concerned? I think we won't see another great contender for the real next generation until June at the earliest. Though we will likely see a Sprint version of the GNx it will also likely be in that time-frame...and whether that phone is obviously better than the ET4G is highly debatable.
So far as Sprint's lineup is concerned this is the best phone of the year. The Evo4G easily took at last year. Our development community has really ramped up pace and there are tons of great ROMs, kernels, mods and hacks. We don't seem to have the merciless onslaught of developer support that the flagship HTC devices get--or any GSM devices for that matter...but...things are looking good.
I think we will definitely see ICS sooner than later. I feel the same about a stable, full function AOSP. The EVO3D didn't get a CM7 alpha until 3 months after release...and it was very alpha. We don't have 'official support' from CM (we've been told that the idea isn't off the table but don't hold your breath), but, I think we will eventually pick up it. This phone isn't the same last-minute hack-job the OG Epic was, which supposedly wasn't even intended to be Android until the last few weeks of development.
...if we don't get CM? That might suck a little, but, this phone is so goddamned fast and smooth and nearly feature-complete that I really won't be that heart broken. Contrast that with the same situation on an HTC? Bahahaha, night and day.
I had a Moment, Hero, Evo4G, NS4G and 3 (yes 3) Evo3D's...this phone, hands down, slaughters all of them in overall user experience. My ET4G also has a much better radio than all 3 of my Evo3D's....The screen is just disgustingly beautiful...battery life is the best I've had on Android.
If you can wait 6 months to use your upgrade? Of course, do that. That will provide the best bang for your buck...but...if you can't? This is the phone to get, especially if you've flatly rejected the Evo3D as a contender--and I wouldn't blame you one bit for that decision.

Im coming from an EVO 4G, and I just used my moms upgrade to get the E4GT on Amazon for $99 (now $79). I just got it Monday, and all I have to say is.....GET THIS PHONE!!!!

Yeah I saw the touch for that price earlier today. Do you know if it Is going to stay that price for 3-4 weeks or is this a temporary special?

My personal opinion is that this phone and the Galaxy 2 linup is by far the best choice out there save perhaps for the Galaxy Nexus. Although the Sprint version seems to be vastly overlooked. but that is changing, people are noticing and i believe that the dev community will grow very quickly soon especially with HTC losing ground everyday so AOSP shouldnt be to far away. But give the touchwiz 4.0 a shot it might surprise you, if not go with Launcher Pro! or ADW EX, problem solved!! BTW GS2 was voted phone of the year!

To put it simply you don't have any other choice on sprint for a phone unless you an iPhone guy. Every other android phone on sprint besides the nexus s (because it has ics now runs awesome) is junk. Sense, blur, and touchwiz all suck like really suck. Touchwiz sucks the least. But it still sucks.
Now that ics is out I only suggest a nexus or don't get android unless there are a sop rooms for it.
If your on a shift this phone is like a major upgrade just get ics theme and its amazing. If you can get this phone for 86 dollars that's a np brainer
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk

The camera and sensor alone make this a top tier phone let alone the screen and a nice update to touchwiz. Add in a custom theme and growing development and there isn't much to like about this phone.

Tablet or upgrade from epic?

So as it stands right now, Sprint is getting the Nexus S 4G, HTC Evo 3D, and the Kyocera Echo. I'll be due for an upgrade in September. My birthday is in July, so I'll have enough money for a new device(turning 17). Now my question, when I get the money, should I keep it, and upgrade to a new phone in september, or spend it on a tablet? If I get a new phone, I'll start rooting my epic and messing around with it. If I get a tablet, which would probably be a Nook Color, I'll be rooting it and putting cm7 or honeycomb on it. In your opinions, what should I do?

i would keep my money and just root my epic now...no need to buy something i can do right now...the same things the others can do the epic can too.. just with a smaller size that can fit in your pocket.. save your money and just root your epic...

Thanks for the input, but I'm not rooting my current phone simply because too many people have problems after messing around, and I need a fully functional device. And on stock, I have no doubt it will do what I need it too, if rooted, I know I will doubt whether my phone is fully working right. I will never root a phone that I need to depend on. More opinions, please!

Thanks, but any reason why? Right now, I'm leaning towards a Nook Color simply because i'd miss my epic's keyboard too much, and I will not sidegrade to a evo shift. Although, if sprint happens to get an Epic II with a keyboard, i'd probably get that over a nook color

I'd like to have one! Lol but I'm 16, I don't get that kind of money, the most I've ever had at one time was just over $340, and that was for my epic.now the $250 + tax is much easier. So unless you wanna send me a 10.1 or an 8.9 for that matter, I'm gonna get a nook.

Better Display (540x960)
HDMI Output (Great for videos, games, etc.)
It's not Samsung
Gingerbread 2.3.3
It'll be Sprint's new flagship device so expect frequent updates and a large community
Bigger Battery (1730 mAh)
Glasses-Free 3D
1.3 MP Front-Facing Camera!
4G
4 GB internal memory
Cons
No Slide
8 GB SD card but upgradable to 16 and 32 GB

Yeah...If I were you I'd definitely get the EVO 3D. Tablets are nice and all, but I'd wait a bit. They're still a bit new, and Honeycomb isn't perfect yet. I say wait until your next update when you're going to be going off to college and you'll have a great tablet to start your year.

Lol thanks for posting the specs and video, I mean it, but I've already seen all that. I do like some elements of sense 3.0, 3d seems like a gimmick to me, although the camera(s) are cool. Dual cores are nice, but not really supported by android(yet) I'm not trying to take anything away from the evo 3d, its a nice phone, but honestly, I feel that, for now, my epic is fast enough for everything I do with it.

K, it also depends on other things that can't be determined yet. Like, if my phone breaks somehow. But, if my phone runs the same way it does now, then, then I think imma buy and start hackerifying a helpless nook color. But, I think its been made pretty clear that the best of the 3 new phones is the evo 3d(or at least the favorite of the 3)

Soooo....what is your question? If you're not interested in the 3d...are you looking at either the echo or the nexus then? Scratch the echo and do the nexus if you're looking at getting a phone. Otherwise go tablet. Spec wise the 3d is obviously the better phone but if nothing about that impresses you then I'm not sure what you're wanting.

Throughout the process of this thread, and its copy in the nook section, i have leaned a little towards a tablet since i could have a phone and tablet, the tablet which i would start hacking since ive never done that to my epic. Whereas, if i got an upgrade to a newer phone, i would have one current phone and the epic which i would then start hacking, but wouldnt use because of battery. The epic/tablet combo seems better to me than new phone/old phone combo.

Wait, I'm confused... you want to hack the epic, but not use it? And yes, personally I would do a tablet and a phone, and intend to do so. Currently I rock the Epic as well as my iTouch 3G. Unfortunately, they serve many of the same functionalities, and I now find my once fantastic iTouch underused less than a year after buying it.
On the other hand, I would much love a tablet I could tether to my Epic, as the larger interface offers a much more satisfying experience when handling emails and documents, among many other tasks. That said, my iTouch is still my favorite music player, despite it's days as a PDA being numbered, and I intend to continue to use my Epic for God-knows-what after I finally upgrade from it. I hate abandoning perfectly functional relatively-up-to-date devices.
I am well aware that you have no desire to root your Epic while it's your primary device, I would suggest trying it and finding an older, stable version of one of the many custom roms out there. The battery life is drastically improved, I can make it last for up to 2 days with light use these days thanks to SyndicateFrozen. That said, my vote is towards the Phone/Tablet combo rather than a newer though barely different phone.

I agree. The phone/tablet combo is definitely the better option. I plan on going that route. I've already got the epic and an ipad2 but I'd like to get a honeycomb tablet as well. Preferably an HTC model with the new Sense launcher. Although the Blackberry Playbook is looking nice too.

What I'm saying is that if I got a new phone instead of a tablet,I would just start messing with the epic, but because it wouldn't have battery life to be a secondary device like a tablet would, it would eventually end up in its box.

[Q] evo 3d users..is it worth the jump

OK had the 3d since launch ..and I enjoy it for the most part except for a few things ..so if you had a 3d aand bought the epic touch ..how do you feel about your purchase
.do you miss sense..is it faster etc ..let me know what you think..I'm on the fence and although this is frivolous its driving me crazy ..
All i can tell you (imo), this things DESTROYS the Evo3D in every aspect.
Sent from a Galaxy far far away...
It's faster, the screen is way better, the speaker is louder, the phone foes better, ways less, and all around looks better.
I have evo 3d, but not for much longer. This phone number blows a custom romed evo 3d out of the water stock. Imagine.... A phone that doesn't require tweaking to feel like a "superphone "....
My advice is make the jump. If your unsure, then the not happy with the 3d. There is no phone I would rather have, absolutely happy with this phone.
Do yourself a favor, don't compare the screens unless you want to see how pitiful the color reproduction on the 3d is compared the the epic touch.

You won't regret it at all. The phone is very fast, super light weight, beautiful screen... The only thing I don't really like is the lock screen but that is not a big factor.. If u can get this phone go for it and you won't even look back. I ran quadrant 2 times first time 3288 and the second time I got a 3684 so what that being said this phone is the best phone on the market
That's what I thought but there is a reason this is being called the best smartphone in the world. It just runs.

Read write is significantly faster, processer is faster, screen is not even in the same class, there is zero lag on anything, the gpu is waaaaaaay better than the 3d, battery is insane (i dont know how they did it but i cant believe how long it lasts), signal is better for me. Thats the biggest things for me. I play with every phone out ther by working at best buy and im telling you honestly i havent found a phone that would beat this including the bionic (mainly cuz motorolas launcher sux ass)

If I were you I'd get it before word gets out... This phone was not highly commercially advertised. But the word of mouth on this phone is going to be killer.. This is the phone to get... Oh, look at that... I had my phone running with medium to heavy use for 13 hours now and the power saver mode just kicked on... Just another perk to an already perfect phone.. LOL

This is coming from someone who has been with Sprint Android from the beginning. I started with the Hero, then the Evo 4G. In the last 3 months I have tried all the newer sprint phones for at least 2 weeks or longer:
Evo 3D on launch day = Returned within 30 days because it was not worth keeping for the next 2 years until my next upgrade.
Nexus S = Pure Android but a step back from an Evo 4G (really liked the idea of NFC but it was unusable in my area)
Photon = Motorola is junk....I cannot stand their bundled apps and the build felt chunky in my hand. Far too similar in speed to my Evo 4G to justify keeping it.
Galaxy S II = Amazing speed, crystal clear screen, no lag, super thin, light as a feather, and so far fantastic battery life. I can't wait until this gets a huge developer following like the Evo 4G did. I can say I will gladly keep this phone for the next 2 years. (sure when the phones with quad core 2.5GHz processors drop next year I will probably want one but who wouldn't)
I am blown away that there was little to no marketing for this phone. They pumped the Evo 4G and Evo 3D, but as far as I see it, the Galaxy S II is Sprints new flagship phone until the iPhone gets here. I kinda wonder if it will ever get the attention because the iPhone is rumored to land at Sprint by the middle of next month.
Great products dont need hype. Positive user feedback will create a ground swell and everyone will want one. This phone is great.

Bought mine earlier today to replace the evo 3d I'm now putting on craigslist lol. This phone is literally epic. I hated the thought of no qhd but after using this phone for 5 hours straight I could care less. The screen is super nice and I've had no lag at all. Launcher pro was smooth as hell on it also, I felt it was smoother than on my 3d. And its so big yet so thin!

[Q] Epic 4g touch or Nexus S4g

Hi to you all, hope your enjoying your holidays.
So i signed up for sprint and got a Nexus S4G for free (only paid taxes). Am very happy with the phone, i really like the curve design and the size fits my hand pretty good. Overall am satisfied with the service(Coming from Metro, ha)
But i been lately thinking exchange it for an Epic 4g Touch, whats kinda holding my back its the size of it, and the square form of it. And well besides paying the 199+tax. and i cant really tell if all of it LOS issues have been fixed with the current updates.
Is it worth upgrading to the epic? how good does it feel in your hand and pockets? Did the current upgrades really fix the issues is it really worth the 199+tax
Thanks for all you guys input.
I am in the same quandary but my concern is the poor audio quality of the sg2 versus the excellent rating of the nexus, which can use the voodoo sound kernels. Also the nexus will get more software rom support. On the other hand, the sg2 screen is stunning, storage is better and speed can't compare.
Guess there is no perfect device
I have both phones and both have their good points. Obviously there is more development on the NS4G but you can run the Epic Touch stock and be totally happy. The update seemed to solve the LOS issue for a good majority of the people that were having problems. I use PowerAmp that has an EQ so I am happy with the music quality but this phone will not have Voodoo support. The screen on the Epic Touch is obviously better. The battery lasts almost twice as long for me. The phone is big but after you get used to it, it feels perfect. Using the on-screen keyboard is much easier. I find myself flashing every new ROM on my Nexus because I am constantly looking to improve it but I am very content with my ET4G setup. The Nexus is a hell of a phone as well. If you are worried that you wont be happy with the Epic Touch, you will be. If you're asking if its a worthy upgrade, that's up to the user. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions and I will get back to you. Oh, running aosp's ICA 4.0.3 v43 on my Nexus and strongsteve's odexed blue 12/24 build on my Epic Touch

Quick input on your concerns:
1. LOS is no longer an issue. It was a huge problem with custom kernels in previous releases, but EK02 seems to have resolved as well as the subsequent no-CIQ update.
2. The large form factor of the SGS2 may be intimidating at first, but you quickly get used to both the large dimensions and huge screen. I came from an Epic 4G and this was one of my concerns too, and in retrospect, it probably shouldn't have been.
3. Dualcore + 1gb RAM makes a huge difference if you're a poweruser. Never having to deal with coming back to an app that was closed automatically (Opera is a big victim of this) is invaluable IMO.
In the end, all the small differences are a wash, and it comes down to hardware vs software. One has ICS and the other will get it later than it should.
FWIW, I have two new E4GT's and I'm looking to trade one of those for a Nexus. ICS has a large amount of undeclared value IMO.

I will trade my Nexus for one of your ET4G's! I am sure you will have no problem making that deal. My Nexus can handle 1540 overclock (unlike most people's) and is loaded up with ICS and TWRP 2.0 with ICS theme. PM me if you are serious about that deal.

I wouldn't buy another samsung device unless it was a nexus. Samsung abandoned the original galaxy s just one year after release. Not everyone can afford a phone off contract one year in.
That said, the nexus s is already a year old, and it would be reasonable for Google to eol it next year. I would honestly consider the evo 3d or the iPhone 4s at this time. Apple typically supports their phones for 2+ years and it is a new device. The evo is Sprint's equivalent of Verizon's DROID branding, so it will be supported for a reasonable amount of time as well.

was truly thinking the same myself. i'm not a apple fan but i'm on the brink......even a guy i know with a old 3gs is getting software updates.............
I have two ns4g and my epic touch as well. I love my ns4g and I'm running ics on it now. Awesome phone. But I couldn't get Rid if my epic touch. The phone is a beast and is the best phone available. No other phone can beat it in CPU and gpu power. It won't happen until a quad core comes out. In the end though its your choice. If $200 bucks is alit of money for you then keep the ns4g. Its an awesome phone. Good luck

DINC2 owners who came from an lte device

Hey guys - I'm considering picking up a dinc2 cheap off craigslist... I'm coming off a thunderbolt and droid charge (sold the tbolt, ready to sell the charge)
Couple reasons - 1 - 4g LTE is awesome, but the battery hit is pretty ridiculous.
2. love the dinc2 form factor - perfect compromise of size
3. MIUI rom - i've yet to have a phone that is supported by MIUI and it alone seems worth it.
Anyone ditch their 4g device and pick up the cheaper DINC 2 for the reasons I mentioned? Any regrets? Thoughts?
Thanks
MIUI is the reason I got the Dinc2 and I came from a Galaxy S 4G. Got it for free on a add-on line with Verizon. This is also the first phone I've had that had a MIUI build available. I love this phone with the specs it has and it was free.
If MIUI is a specific factor, be aware that the developer who was building our ports has been MIA lately. The last stable, working build was from December 9th, everything since then has had major problems. Could be that work is being focused on MIUI 4, after all, even Cyanogen stopped releasing nightlies of CM7 around the same time.
All that having been said, the 12.9 release is stable and everything works perfectly, so it's not like anyone's missing out on anything not being able to run a more recent build. There's an alpha of ICS based MIUI for the Inc2 floating around, which runs real well with the exception of some of the major issues with ICS so far - camera, and I think data wasn't working, but the rom overall looks real nice.
Just thought you should be aware of the MIUI situation.... otherwise, it's an awesome phone - battery life is great, it's plenty fast and, as you said, the form-factor is perfect.
Thanks, but, there is a one problem with MIUI - FM radio does not work and I don't think there is GSM support. I could be wrong about the radio though. I hate the Sense look which is why I chose MIUI.

I traded an LG Revolution for this phone, and have not looked back since. The LTE speeds were amazing, but I needed an HTC phone so I could really have fun with my device. Plus, after having the OG DInc as my first smartphone in August 2010, it was too much to resist its successor.
Having owned an Inc2, GNEX and now a Rezound.
I would say get a Rezound.
I LOVE the inc2, so much so i couldn't sell it, I gave to my little brother.
BUT 4g LTE is AMAZING.
there is an option to turn it to 3g mode only when needed. so I actually get better battery life from my Rezound than I did on my Inc2!
Not trolling on Inc2 by many means!, I highly suggest it, but I also suggest considering the Rezound as well...
I really wanted the Rezound but, It was $80.00 on an add-on line and the Dinc2 was free. MIUI, free, sim unlockable were the main reasons I got it.

Rezound does look nice, but yea, I got the Inc2 as a free replacement for my Fascinate, which itself, I picked up for free during Best Buy's Free Phone Friday 2 years ago. I seem to be on a roll with scoring free smartphones!
I switch from the Charge. The battery life on 4G was horrible. Had to force it to 3G for make it thru the day. Lack of roms also made it easier to switch. Yes the MIUI is a good rom. It doesnt support wireless charging so that was a big turn off. The size of the Inc2 was nicer then the charge....IMO phones are gettng to big.
TSM ROMs support wireless charging. Yippie
MIUI is real neat (I have run it on both my D1 and DInc2), but I wouldn't really consider it as a deal-breaker when it comes to choosing a phone. With that said, there is plenty to love about the DInc2. Obviously, you'll have much improved battery life over most 4G devices. And the form factor of the phone is indeed splendid, as you have mentioned.
On a side note, I have had some issues with MIUI on my Incredible 2. Most notably, I get a Force Close every time I try to answer an incoming phone call. However, that seems to be an issue with only the newest GB-based MIUI build. MIUI 4.0 seems very promising, but as mentioned above, is still quite a ways off from being usable on a daily basis (No data, some random FC's and such).
Ill sell you, the OP, mine for 220. With an otterbox commuter if you want. Its a great device, but I'm just looking for an upgrade. I've kept a screen protector on it since I've got it.

Hey bro, any chance you could drop the price a little??? Andybones needs a dinc2 and he needs it for cheaper than that as he's not good with money right now. He's got the rezound, and wants the dinc2 cuz he misses the fun here.

Yeah man, I'm sure I could go for 190. I don't really have any money and I want a nexus. I wish I would've held off on putting it on eBay though. Should I PM him the link?

I want a Nexus, but I'm waiting till summer, cuz its my b-day, plus it will be cheaper and there will be way more new phones out then.
My thoughts are, I can sell my relatively prevalent phone for all but twenty dollars of the phone I want, or I can get the phone I want for a little cheaper, but with less help from my current phone. It makes sense to me, but maybe I'm in the wrong.

Yup, anything past the 12.9 version is broken, but 12.9 and before seem to run fine.

[Q] Just about to buy GNexus or should I go for the HTC One X?

Hello All,
First of all allow me to apologise if this is in the incorrect thread, or has been asked before, however this question is time and date relevant.
My contract is up tomorrow (20/06/2012), and i have wanted the Galaxy nexus since it was released. However I am just looking around at phones in the UK, and am torn between the HTC One X and the GNexus.
What are peoples thoughts about the GNexus so far?
Is it still worth taking out a contract on it? (18 months).
I am not super bothered about the quad core, but I need the phone to last, my currect phone (X10 Mini Pro) lasted about 6 Months of the 24 before it became nearly unusable, and I couldn't afford to buy a new one, until now.
Thank you all in advanced,
Technicalevolution.
The Gnex will last you 18 months no problem, and it will have far superior dev support. I had the One X and it is a great phone, but it takes a lot to get it working the way i like. To get AOSP you still have to sacrifice some functionality and stability. The GNex will be first to updates, and more stable running modified firmware. The display is better on the One X, as is all the hardware really. That said, i still prefer the Nexus. I probably won't buy another non-nexus device.
just my .02$

This quote above is exactly what I think also after having the htc evo lte for a week.
If you like no bloatware (ie: sense) Go with galaxy nexus, you will always have the latest android version and customization is a dream. And it is plenty fast, if you need something faster then a galaxy nexus then your crazy.
PURE GOOGLE FTW!!!
Some time ago I made the decision to buy only Nexus phones and I dont regret it, they are awesome.
Pros of the GNex:
-Better software
-Updates assured for the next Android versions
-Multitasking work much better than the One X
-Removable battery
Cons:
-Bad camera
-Older hardware (but I dont think it matters that much, since it can easily run everything you can find on Android Market)
If you know are posting on xda then you probably like messing with your phones. So that leaves you with two options. Get the gnex in black or get the gnex in white.
End of story

Yes i have meddled with my phone before, so that's a good point.
I think you have all convinced me firmly to go for the galaxy nexus then.
Thanks,

Don't care about hardware. The nexus hardware is obviously good enough to have ics running extremely smooth. What you should take into consideration.
- Camera.
- Whether or not you want sense
- Do you hate having outdated software?
- Build quality
- which device looks better to you ( You don't want to pull out your phone and see something that you think is ugly every time.)
Those questions should give you a better answer on which you should get

I've had my Nexus for the last 6 mo's and probably will have it for the next 18 months! I cant imagine going back to some UI and carrier bloat. Dooo iiiit!
I just love the simplistic look on the Nexus when I hide the status and nav bar. The screen just blends in with the bezel so well when using a black theme and wallpaper. The only thing I dislike about the phone is the camera, but it's good enough to satisfy most people.
Why not just play with both at a store? Get a feel for them.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I did try to have a play on both, but for the amount of phone stores near me, none of them have a galaxy nexus on display, shambles if you ask me.
Thanks
t
Had the same dilemma, stock ics > sense 4 to me, and nexus runs ics so well! Also, I really don't want to wait for key lime pie to come out before I get jellybean, you know? Go with the nexus, it's fantastic!
Since this is a very common question there is a sticky dedicated to it. Please continue the conversation in there.
