OTA update-what is it exactly? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So I didn't go through the trouble to roll back to EG30 in order to install this update.
What exactly was the update for? The modem? The kernel? The rom? Or all three?
I pushed install and the notification went away for about a week but it came back.
I was wondering if I install a rom that is 2.4.6 if the update will recognize that and not come back.
Or what kernel should I install so it wont come back?
Any help would be great!
Thanks in advance.

nevermind....it fixed it self.

Baseband only refers to the modem. If you search the development threads, you will find zips to update the modem in clockwork.
As for stock updates, they require the stock recovery to work so if you have clockwork or twrp recovery installed, you will have to go back to stock to receive the ota updates.
Finally on the Jellybean update, you won't miss it. When released, I'm sure the awesome Devs here will pick it up and it would only be a matter of time before a custom rom is released. The benefits of running 'custom' far outweigh anything that releases 'stock'.

Primoc Battery Life fix update?

I keep hearing about an OTA update that fixes the battery life percentage issues. To get this do I have to revert back to stock, install the OTA update, then unlock and re-root or is this something that can be incorporated into future kernels?
I thought it was an update to the system. What does it include? I thought it was just some files in stuff like Bin, etc, or Lib. :/
Just got this update last week and it finally fixed the battery issue for me.
Info how to do it: How to upgrade One V with an OTA update

That's fine and dandy but are you running a custom rom? If i revert to stick and run the ota, I get constant reboot issues after flashing a Rom after that. If I undo the ota (by running the ruu) then I can flash a Rom with no problems.

[Q] Cant get update to flash via OTA. Stock recovery too. (Temp unrooted)

Well just finally came back to mess with my S3, I havent tried since OCT. Anyways. I heard I can JB it now with OTA? Anyways. I did use the tool kit to flash back the stock recovery, I used voodoo to temp unroot, then download the OTA. Then it just comes back saying it couldnt update. Anyone have any ideas here? Thanks. (Would hate to have to do a fresh install, and restore..)

check this thread out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
it has the official firmwares & OTAs pre-rooted
but it would also format my phone too right? Which is kinda what I wanna avoid >.< But yea gets to 25% and stops.

if you're on stock and not a custom rom you can do it without wiping data but im not too sure
Ok I got JB installed. Here is why I "think" it didnt update via CWM or OTA. I tried that google wallet fix. Or it could be the rooted avast mode. Finally I dont know. That voodoo protected su mode?
Either way, I downloaded the JB flashable via odin, pre root. Then I used the toolkit and just did the PDA update without wiping. Everything stayed on, I am running rooted JB now.
I would try a diff rom.. but not sure yet if anything is better to switch to based on official JB now. I wouldnt mind if the LEDs worked right tho...

UVLI4 Update Question

Ive been waiting for people to update their ROMs with the latest update from Tmobile. All I see is the radio update.
If I wanted to use this update, I would have to unroot, go back to stock, and then re-root using the ICS method? Right?
Or should I just wait until someone decides to update their ROM to the latest with the upgrade from Tmobile OTA?
EDIT: What would be the most effective way to get that done? unroot, update then re-root (if possible) or wait till people update their roms?

If you've installed another ROM, you're probably already rooted. If not, root the phone again, download the radio ZIP file, and install the zip from recovery. The CyanogenMod and AOSP derived ROMs will work fine with the stock GingerBread radio so they usually don't ship with radio software. Other Skyrocket-derived JellyBean ROMs typically ship with the Blaze 4G radio in them. The UVLI4 radio is the fastest one I've installed thus far.

Alas, the T-Mobile USA girl has been flirting with me for a year now. While she has brought joy to most other
parts of the world, I've had to seek comfort in the arms of (many) other ROMs
How sure are you?
I was wondering same thing if i knew how to add the toggle mod to the stock version i would be set. unfortunately i cant do it ill search tho.

Samsung Software update for L710t (spark)

I'm on stock rooted 4.4.2 on my Sprint L710t (spark version). I got a notification for an OTA update yesterday coming in at 70.5MB and states that they're security updates and bug fixes. Did anyone else get this and do they know what these changes are? Will I lose root if I update?
I'm currently on OA3 baseband. Thanks.
I have the same baseband but have not received that message. Did you except the update or at least let it download the update then copy it from your system files to your internal or external sdcard? If you download it and save it could you upload it so I can get it from you and look through the update?

Idk if you will loose root access or if it will even allow you update since you are rooted cause you have modified the system file a little! I got the update this morning finally but I couldn't take it cause I have TWRP recovery and not stock recovery and I have deleted quiet a system apps. But you pull the update file from your cahce folder and open the zip file up and look at what all gest updated! The bootloader, kernel, modem and a bunch of system apps and CSC codes are all updated so far that I can see.
I haven't been able to update either since I'm using TWRP. Do you think it's worth going back to stock recovery in order to update? How would I even do that on OA3? I've seen a lot of tutorials on getting stock back on NF4 baseband, but nothing on OA3.

I'm sure it would help at least with our service cause they did update our modem! I'm not sure either about what is the best way to try to update. I'm running a custom kernel and TWRP so I would have to flash the NF4 package and see see it would give me ota-update for OA3 then allow me to update to the new L710TVPU0AOF2. Thats the new baseband. I'm not really sure I haven't ever had the problem of worrying about stock ota-updates. I've always normally had devices that developers post the update firmware packages online for us! I've asked Chainfire if he thinks we could flash the update using Flashfire but he hasn't replied yet. I don't think we will be able to but it's worth a shot to ask.
I just received the same update. Is there a way to disable it
How can I upload it?? Where is the update downloaded into??
