White replacement housing - Galaxy S II Accessories

Quick question.. Have my phone all set up how i want, rooted and running nice and fast (thanks to the checkrom contributors).. But i recently suffered a minor accident and dropped my phone, got a cluster of mini chips in the front left bottom corner of the gunmetal bezel around the screen... So i looked into getting some replacement housing to go with my new case.. but was wondering, if i buy any of the white replacement housing (fancy a change given it wasn't out when i got mine on day one) off ebay or the rest of the net.. surely the replacements won't be gorilla glass based? and also some of the pictures of said cases don't seem to account for a change in colour for the middle part of the phone where the touch sensitive keys are...
Can anyone shed some light on how i could go about changing my black galaxy s 2 to a white one..?

White replacement housing comes with: BACK part & MIDDLE part. Plus: Bright silver speaker grill & screen bezel. Also: HOME, VOLUME & POWER Burton's are white.
Doesn't come with screen.
I don't see why a replacement WHITE LCD digitizer wouldn't be Gorilla Glass tho.
Sent from my International Samsung Galaxy S II

Yea my dog got at my phone, I'm considering getting a white housing but just keeping the black screen. My screen gaurd was toast but apparently gorilla glass vs dogs teeth = no scratch.

How to Replace your Scratched Galaxy S2 Screen DIY

I have searched high and low for an answer on how to replace a scratched screen of the SGS2 by yourself and have finally found the answer.
This will definitely VOID YOUR WARRANTY so don't say you haven't been warned.
I suggest you only use this guide if you were desperate like me. My phone didn't come with an official warranty so I was as good as screwed if I wanted a new screen.
Step 1: Obtain the part
Just ebay for lcd screen and digitizer galaxy s2 (however u may wish to buy it with the faceplate see below note). You want both the super amoled plus screen and the digitizer together. You can get this for about 120-130 USD.
There are some vendors that sell just the 'lens' but you need a specialized machine to replace it and is simply not worth the trouble.
Note that if you go to an original Samsung service centre, when they order the part, it comes together with the face plate and is therefore a breeze to install. This part is for sale on Ebay too. http://cgi.ebay.com/LCD-Touch-Digit...312?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a682b9ad0. I would recommend you to buy this type instead of just the LCD and digitizer.
Follow this disassembly guide (not mine).
Now using a thin metal flat tool with a wide flat surface area, dig at the small gap from the top of the screen and pry the screen from the frontplate. It is held entirely by double-tape so don't worry about any screws, catches. Be careful of not damaging the bezel in the process.
Clean off the old black tape and double tape as best as u can, and be careful of the bottom buttons. The attachment shows how it looks like after cleaning it.
Reapply the double tape in strips and try to shape it to fit as much as you can. This is tiresome but necessary since the adhesive behind the lcd screen is very weak and you don't your screen falling out of you halfway.
Push it in and it should stick. That's it! Then reassemble.
Confirmed working!
thanks for the write up, do you have any more photos of your process?
OMG, it's like watching an autopsy.
Could a better resolution screen or even 3d screen be used/upgraded later on?
Nice to know for something happens, Hope not
Hope wont be necessary. How did you scratch the screen so hard that it had to be changed? I tought the Gorilla Glass is almost unscratchable.
Man,,u shud handle it a bit gently ,,,,i mean,i flinched every time u "threw" the phone on the table.
On second thought, I might as well buy that screen protector

Unfortunately not at this time. I will do it the next time around (which will be soon as there is a slight imperfection with my button sensitivity so I might be inclined to try it again) but trust me it's not a beautiful process. Needs lots of guts. Nothing technical about it. Shove the flat tool in the gap and keep on loosening the glue as much as u can then take it off.

It's more like cracked. I dropped it on some rocks from waist height and it cracked. It seems that gorilla glass is not shatter proof. There are also some scratches/mini cracks from where the rocks cut it.
Lesson learnt, get a screen protector that hopefully will reinforce it a bit more.
I wonder how these replacement parts compare to the quality of the original parts.
Is your new screen a Super AMOLED+ screen? all ebay listing just says LCD. Is it original Samsung part?

There some listed as Super AMOLED+ screen just search on ebay or even drop the sellers a question about their iteams.
It is a Super Amoled + screen (don't see any difference in quality between the old and new one). Most sellers don't really know much of their products unfortunately but they do say it's original and I do believe mine is.
There's no Samsung print on the front plate but it does have a part number which corresponds closely to the original one. Everything else looks exactly the same, even the black sponge at the back and the microchips have Samsung wording on them.

Dropped SGS2 from bikemount : broken screen.
OK,
I broke my screen this weekend. I was on a bike tour with the SGS2 mounted on the steering bar. For some unclear reason, the universal holder came off the bikemount at 25 kmh... Dropped on the paved road, and although still in the universal holder, which is made of soft rubber (which I would expect to break the fall), the screen of my beloved SGS2 was cracked !!! Apart from the cracked screen, everything else seems to work as before.
So, today I ordered a replacement set with bezel from aliexpress.com at 148USD.
When I get the part, I will try to post some pictures of the replacement process.
I had an HD2 before ... just sold it last Friday :-( ... I think over a period of 1,5 year, I dropped the HD2 about 6 times on hard surfaces ... also it fell off my bike once ... the HD2 never broke.
So, is it just bad luck this time, or is the built quality of the SGS2 just not as good as the HD2 ?

DirkB

It is very easy to do. Just unclip each component and transplant it to the new case.
I have to do my friends one this weekend as he has dropped it and damaged the screen and the bezel .
I have managed to source the screen and the bezel for him all as one piece .
Now all the guides i have seen just rip the phone to pieces , surely if we have the right bits like i have bought this fix is very smple to do??
I am thinking it is just a case of undoing the 7 screws at the back of the phone , opening it up and then disconnect the screen cables from the mainboard . Does the whole front then come away??
If not i take it i have to undo the screws on the main board to release the screen? but this means the componets of the main board may come loose etc??
Has anyone that has done this got any info on just swapping the screen with the complete part? when i say complete part i mean the one that comes with the bezel and home button etc like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/LCD-Touch-Digit...312?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a682b9ad0
Thanks in adance for any guidance

+1 for me.
I received my screen including bezel.
I've removed the main board just like the guy in the Youtube video.
But now I still have to transfer (from original front to my new front):
- the bottom PCB (where the microUSB sits)
- the camera
- the speaker
etc ...
I can not find a description/movie of how to do this ?
The bottom PCB for example has 2 screws, but after removing them the PCB itself looks like glued to the front assy'.
I prefer to see or get proper instructions before starting the rest of this adventure
...
PS : I got my part from aliexpress.com within 2 weeks (via airmail). It's with the Samsung logo on it and the package included all required tools (screwdrivers) to do the job. Would be nice to see some written instructions included as well.
Grtz,

In the search for t989 parts

I am working on replacing a samsung tmobile lcd screen. I bought a screen off ebay. As i got everything broke down i noticed the adhesive around the edge of the screen. Where can i find this die cut adhesive. I also need it for the flex cable light buttons at the bottom. As I removed the old screen I did not heat it hot enough. the buttons seperated and I do not want to waste a $180 lcd with bad buttons and no adhesive.
I wanna sell my phone you want that

Where to buy full original housing?

Anyone knows where to buy the full original housing? I've tried ebay but so far there is only white, blue and red. I would like brown coloured ones actually but if there is any color available except those 3 would be worth considering too. Thanks guys
Im having the same question, I want a black housing... Anyone can help?

Thanks for the reply, but they dont have other colors except blue and white unfortunately.
yes they do, they have the titanium grey and the sapphire black and the red as well. they have the battery covers to go along wqith it as well except for the black i think. those whole screen units you see for 269 come with basically the whole front piece of the phone which also include the bezel. you can use your existing interior black peice which houses the battery and just replace battery cover with matching screen digitizer combo
Grrr that site NEVER loads the pictures in a search and I don't have time to load EVERY SINGLE PAGE just to see what stuff looks like
Grrrr

do you have to replace the digitizer and screen as well? wouldn't front cover, back cover, buttons and frame be enough to change the overall look? Thanks

[Q] Problems with a replaced front glass

Hello,
I recently dropped my phone resulting in a cracked screen. I had replaced the screen myself. The phone still functions just fine with one minor problem. The glass screen isn't 100% touching the digitizer (at least from what I can tell). There is a gap between the digitizer and the replacement glass. I recall that when I was removing the cracked glass, there was a layer of adhesive I had removed because the glass shards were pretty stuck all over it. So does anyone know how to resolve this problem or where to buy that adhesive so there will be a perfect fit?
I've attached some images. One is at rest and you can probably see the dark circle in the middle of the screen.
The second is when I put some pressure on the screen, the *bubble* gets bigger. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Out of luck....
Unfortunately, you are out of luck. Your only option is to purchase the LCD/Digitizer/Glass preassembled. (Around $250)
The design used by Samsung, I believe weakens the glass on the Galaxy S3. Take for example the iPhone 5 which also utilizes Gorilla Glass 2, it is more durable than the S3.
I would think that people would band together and call for a class action law suite against Samsung to replace all screens free of charge for the first incident, or you can sell the phone and buy a quality phone.:highfive:
Buy a new phone.... note2

The Note2 is more durable than the S3, but the glass is still more prone to breaking than the iPhone 5. Again, Samsung is not a quality manufaure, they are a company trying to push out products in quantity, not quality. Quite a shame! Again, to the OP....choose a quality phone which is designed in America
Lol this is funny cause I have droped my note 2 from nipple height all the time....just breaks open and I put the battery in then cover and bam it works

Turning black galaxy s2 into white

I've been a while wanting to transform my black galaxy into a white one. I've been reading a lot of posts and I can see that the main problem is that it's pretty difficult to change the frontal screen into white, cause if you change that part the screen is going to break, And of course, buying a white full screen is insane cause it's just too expensive. However, I've seen a screen for 8 dollars in ebay (apparently it's not just the frontal, it's the full screen) and I would like you guys to tell me if you would recommend this screen:
"White LCD Touch Digitizer Screen Assembly Display For Samsung Galaxy S 2 i9100" en ebay.com

It's way too much trouble. If you want to change the phone to white, you might as well buy a white GSII. If you change screen, you'll need the chrome bezel-ed frame as well.(black screen has a black frame). Then you'll need a new white housing. I wonder how many internal hardware components will break in the process?
Or you could make it black and white. Mine was originally black. All I did was change the back housing to white, and viola. All for just 12 bucks on ebay. I want some uniqueness in the World of monotonic black and white, red and pink S2s. A certain combination. Mine is a 2000Mah setup so it'll appear thicker because of the supplied battery cover.
(Also in my sig, but I uploaded higher res pics + more of them.)
Good luck.
I opted for an all aluminium-glass-carbon fiber appearance and feel for my black GS2. It feels like a completely different phone!
That is one good looking s2 man were did you get that???
MS1 Neatrom 4.4 Jeboo 4.x +
It's a normal Galaxy S2 with a Sweet-armor and some carbon fiber 3M Di-Noc cut to size on the battery cover.
The "chrome bezel" bit is part of the metal plate that the lcd is glued to.
Take your phone to Charlie from Boyd Coddington (American Hot Rod).He could spray it any colour you want.
I think it doesn't look that great with the back covering in black and the front part in white . Anyways I think the screen was good and I've just made a mistake. I think there was an error, and the screen costs now 86$. I should have bought it U_u

There was no error; $86 seems like a much more appropriate price for a GS2 AMOLED panel. You can buy the glass separately, and install it separately, although it is highly recommended that you don't. And do you mean front part in black and back part in white?

Yes, but it is in fact attached (molded) to a metal frame (looks like a magnesium alloy) which is a midsection of the device...

So you changed the front screen to white and the back to black? Or are you saying I made my S2 uglier than usual with the black in front and the white behind? haha I thought the black will blend with the screen well enough at certain angles. I don't like white front phones either, since screens are usually bluish black. I can't imagine what it'll look like with a white front and a black back.
Anyway for those wondering whether if the camera and vibrator modules are stucked on to it permanently, no they are just held with a piece of tape to the assembly and it's easy to pry them apart with a pair of tweezers with careful handling.
This 30 minute highly detailed and carefully explained, about disassembling the S2 should do it. Good luck.

Yeah, it might be a bit bulkier, but it feels like much more of a phone, if you know what I mean. From the top of my head, the S2 weighs 116g, and my S2 with case and battery and all weighs about 158g. It is much heavier, but I like it.

It is true; officially, the Galaxy S2 only supports up to 32 GB, but that's because SDXC cards are formatted using exFAT by default. If you format it using FAT32, then you're good to go.
You can always buy those colored screen protectors.. I dont know what they're called. They're very cheap too. Just change the back to white and buy one of these for the front
