My wife has always carried her flip phones in her purse, which was OK. However I just picked her up a SGN and am uncomfortable with the idea if this floating around inside a purse, even with a screen protector and/or in a side pocket. As such, I'm looking for something a bit more substantial that won't prove to be a big hindrance.
I've got a Diztronic matte black on mine but, as mentioned, don't think a screen protector would do the job inside a purse.
Suggestions?
My wife ordered a case from this website:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaSideSew...edium=trans_email&utm_campaign=purchase_buyer
She's done it before and was happy with the product she got. You can give them specific dimensions (i.e., dimensions including the case).
A TPU case would be sufficient, check out ebay there's a huge selection and they average 7$

So it looks like Case-Mate does not make a Barely There type case for the Samsung Captivate. Are there any other good similar options out there?
incipio feather is similar...but its less flexible
For a truly "barely-there" experience, I've just installed a screen protector. Voila!
I used to use what noma_pride mentioned above and was quite happy until recently. The full body skins tend to peel up from the edges and eventually dull overtime requiring replacements which can become quite annoying.
IMO I found no case/skins best. I found these jackets made from microsuede from sfbags.com and they are awesome! Check them out http://www.sfbags.com/products/cellphonecases/cell-phone-cases.php

Picked that up for my wife. She loves it. Thanks.
I personally like the flexible cases that body glove makes. The AT&T store sells this one, but I would not recommend getting it from them. Much cheaper through ebay. I had a hard case that snapped on, but found it covered up the sides and bottom too much. It affected dragging apps from main screen to other screens because you couldn't get your finger far enough to the side for the screens to scroll. Also I purchased a spare battery with battery charger and it was a pain to unsnap the case and swap batteries when I needed to. I have dropped mine with the body glove and phone still looked perfect. I am sure a hard enough drop would still be able to damage it though. The only thing about the body gloves that I think suck is only comes in black or pink.
I have a silicon case I bought in the mall (don't recommend that but I needed one as the lady one broke), and it's awesome. It's a harder silicon that still moved, and grips the phone like a condom. Our was made by an off brand, but I'm sure you can find it easily in any mall or online shop

I think TPU cases are the best. They aren't "barely there" cases but the closest providing all the proctection you need. Price is a plus too. Try searching tpu in ebay
So I got a regular rubber case with my Nexus (assuming it would add the least amount of thickness) and I always use cases with my phones but I'm noticing that it really increases the thickness and feel of the phone, which I dislike.
How many of you are and aren't using cases and what is your reasoning for each?
Should I risk not using a case or should I just suck it up?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I'm not using a case, and my only reasoning is that I haven't found one I like yet. This thing has flown out of my hands inadvertently so many times, I will probably be getting the sylicrilic from VZW just to have something on it until I find what I'm looking for. If I can ever figure out what that is.
I just ordered the Diztronic TPU that everyone is talking about. Hopefully I'll like that one better than the one that I got from Verizon earlier today...

No case for me yet. I also haven't found one I like. I'm really attracted to the nekkid look though.
I'm generally a nekkid guy. Dropped my precious today and the plastic back is VERY susceptible to scratches. Reconsidering my no case choice but love this phone as is.

I use a case but...
A scratch on the body won't bother me as much as a scratch on the glass, so I would definitely use a SP if nothing else, but that's just me.
But I want mine in pristine condition for when I sell it and get my Galaxy Note II
I'm definitely getting a case. I never did mind a bulky phone ( I used to have a n900 with an otterbox on.. That thing was a tank, in both size and durability)
Got a case.
This phone with such a large glass and slender body to go along with it feels like it would fall apart if I ever dropped it. Maybe it isn't so but handling something this expensive/large/slender needs some protection for me to freely use it with peace of mind.
I'm using a temporary Case-Mate Barely There case along with no screen protector right now and I'm very antsy when handling my phone. So much so that it's a hassle.
Got the Diztronic case too and will be using Ghost Armor when they finally have the product line.
I had my wife buy the phone AND an Otterbox when she went to vzw... I have had OBs on all my phones and will keep doing so. Sure you can get it cheeper online but I pulled the phone out of the box put the 4g card on then put it in th OB!!!! And that is where it will stay!!!
I don't care about maintaining the cheap plastic backplate much to justify for a case, but I got myself a Silicone case from Verizon anyway because I don't want to scratch the camera lense when laying the phone on the table.
Diztronic rocks. I have a bse full body shield on and the case fits with that too. Scratch proof and protected. Love it

This. Otterbox is the only case I trust my devices in. Had one for my OG and iPod and I recommend them to everyone. Already have the commuter for the SGN and I won't even get the phone till Christmas! I'm ocd about keeping my devices pretty.

heres one thing i don't get from you guys that go naked. what about the effin camera in the back!? you realize every time you place it on a surface you're landing it flat on the plastic of the camera?
I never wanted to go no case but since my Desire, I've preferred the pouches just because it doesn't add to the size of the phone, and then you don't have to worry about anything hitting it. But I think this phone is just too large to use a pouch with. I bought a Nokia-brand pouch that fits my Nexus, but it hangs out the top by half a centimetre. Not a problem because it's not loose in the case itself, but it's still not the best situation.
One of the main reasons why I prefer the pouches is because then I don't have to worry about a screen protector, but I've already got a nick on my Nexus' glass, so I'll probably wear an SP and a case all the time.

i've never used one of these, just looked into it, cause you posted it. Going to have to look into it more now.
good choice. i expect this case to b great because their silicon cases are the best to me. they just stretch after awhile. like any other silicone. but that case isn't rubber. btw, Rearth reached out to me and let me know the case fits both GSM and LTE models.
I dropped my phone within 24 hours of getting it. It left 2 quite big marks on the body. The plastic body is pretty soft and can be easily damaged.
I now have a replacement and put in case striaght away. But it does feel so much slimmer and nicer without a case
do you find excessive dust with an otterbox? seems like my G-nex is totally prone to dust. otherwise i love the case, makes the phone a little easier actually for me to hold without getting the feeling like it might just slip out of my hand.
BSE body skin and XO skin screen cover here.

I'm not really prepared to give a full review of this case yet since I just put it on today and haven't "lived" with it for very long, but I wanted to go ahead and post some pics for anyone who might be interested. These pics are of a Galaxy Nexus LTE with extended battery. I believe it's designed to fit the LTE with standard battery, but it fits just fine with the extended battery.
What I can tell so far -- the glossy/gel part of this case is rubbery and sticks to hard surfaces, but doesn't seem to stick to fabric/clothes so i don't think it'll be a problem getting in and out of pockets. The matte part is like a textured plastic -- very smooth and not sticky at all. The gel fits around the front and sticks up only a fraction above the screen like it's supposed to, so you can lay it face down and the screen won't touch the surface. Anyway, here are the pics.
If I'm missing any angles that anyone wants to see, let me know and I'll take more pics. I'll try to add some more opinions about this case after I've carried it around a little.
how flexible is the case?
Thanks for sharing large photos, it really helps to show the fit of the case. Think I'll go ahead and order one.
For those who have a different case, it would be nice to see those cases posted in a similar fashion.
I have this case too and I believe it was molded to fit the GSM version. I've had both versions of the phone and it fit the GSM version perfectly. The Verizon version (even without the extended batt) does not fit quite right. You can see it clearly in your 4th pic how it bulges out and does not hug the edges of the screen area properly. I also don't care for the button areas, as they are both enclosed and make it difficult to locate the buttons by feel.
Thanks. I just picked up one in green and it seems to fit fine over the extended battery. I am still able to find the power button because it has a different texture than the rest of the side.
It will probably take a few days to see if it is better out worse that the gel I got at Verizon. So far, so good. And it was on sale!

i don't think that is the same case. the one i got is made by Qubits.
@halo0: yes, i can tell this case wasn't made for the extended battery, and i can see what you're talking about in picture 4, but i don't notice any bulge in actual use, and i'm pretty anal about my cases.
also, like @VivianC mentioned, it's easy to find the power and volume buttons by touch because of the difference in texture.

My case was around £3 and is IDENTICAL to the pictures above and this link.
Don't spend more than $10/£5 on this case.
The reason why I am getting rid of this case is because it makes the screen/sleep button quite weird to press. (However, having this case for nearly a month you get used to it)
Sadly, lint and dirt collects easily around the lip of the case where it touches the screen.
There are NO issues with this case pulling up the screen protector edge. (I've read how someone said cheap TPU cases sometimes do this)
Does provides good protection for small knocks and drops! - Dropped my phone on wood floor twice and was well protected!
Got these on amazon for 8 each.green one for my girl black for myself. Barely noticeable and I actually think it fits better with the extend battery than the standard, mine (with extended battery) just feels better than hers without. Good skin, very pleased with it

I have three different colors (red, clear, and black) of this case and I have to say I am very pleased with them. They were made for the GSM version but they still fit pretty good with the CDMA's. (Small buldge that was previously mention) Paid $5 for the red and the clear one. $8 for the black one. I'd recommend it for those prices.
I've got this and I really don't like the button covers. They're to stiff for my liking. Amazon carries this for $9.99 with two screen protectors and a micro fiber pouch.

So, I bought two not so expensive cases from the following company:
HD Accessory http://www.hdaccessory.com/servlet/StoreFront
Let's not go into the fact that they emblazon that they ONLY sell Apple stuff all over the top of their website. Their loss if they can't figure out that they sell other stuff.
I ordered the following two cases:
SAMSIII-A2-REV-PURPLE-14414 Armor Kickstand Hybrid Case for Samsung Galaxy S3 (Purple) $8.95 $8.95
http://www.hdaccessory.com/servlet/the-10901/galaxy-s-iii-hybrid/Detail
and
SAMSIII-E3-ASTRONOOT-YELPUR-19037 Astronoot Multi-Layer Hybrid Case for Samsung Galaxy S3 (Yellow Purple) $7.95 $7.95
http://www.hdaccessory.com/servlet/the-11545/samsung-galaxy-s-iii/Detail
I'll review both separately:
Now, mind, they're completely different cases. Never mind about the colors. I like the colors. Yes, fine, make fun, I like yellow and purple. Think what you will.
The first has a kickstand, a had inner shell, (think Kraken, think WOW what a ripoff of Kraken for only $9), with a soft outer skin (think Incipio). The kickstand seemed cool, a way to prop up the device while at work so I can see stuff without having to peer down at the device.
You know what I DID NOT realize until I got the cases in the mail? How do you charge something that stands upright when the charging port is at the bottom? I tried it. It had to sit on the edge of my desk where I was worried that any moment it would fall off if I knocked the desk at all. Yes, I know what you're thinking, why not stand it sideways. I tried that to ABSOLUTELY no avail. It kept falling over.
The skin is so slippery that I dropped it every single time I picked it up. I mean come on folks, don't make a case that is so slick it's not worth holding. Ridiculous. This one needs to go back.
The second case is a little better. I've used it all day and it's fine. purple inner soft skin, yellow hard outer skin. The best I can say for this is meh. I think I'm back to my Incipio that I bought in the VZW store when I got the device.
Personally, either one is not worth the money I spent on them, DEFINITELY NOT the first.
YMMV.
Thanks for the heads up

I have that first case you reviewed or one that looks identical i got on ebay. I dont have a problem with having it stand up in portrait or landscape. I agree the case is a little slick tothe touch. On the plus side, i dropped it yesterday, one of those time stands still- slow motion drops, and it survived unharmed

This is a quick review of a generic TPU case from eBay. There seems to be several variants, including this one, the 's-line' one, and then one that has a round cut out where the LG logo is.
Overall, it's a very good fit and I'm very happy with it -- (going to actually start using this instead of the Rearth Slim)
Like:
- Pretty good fit
- Doesn't interfere with SPIGEN Stenheil screen protector -- in fact, the lip of the case lies on top of the screen protector
- I can see the Nexus logo on the back (I bought the frosted white) -- goes well with my white N5.
- Grippy - I didn't like my Rearth case because it still felt a bit slippery
- Cheap - £3 w/ shipping included... can't beat that
Dislike:
- The camera cutout on the back isn't aligned 100%
- No cutout for buttons - this one depends on your preference -- button presses are no longer satisfying but at least it keeps the dirt out.
- Included screen protector (at least with the ebay auction I purchased) is garbage with weird cutout for the camera / proximity sensor.
- My past experience with generic tpu cases have been that the case itself scratches easily, but given the price, this is a non-issue for me.
Recommended!
PS. I have no relation with the ebay listing, but this one is sold by user 'talklinesales' in the UK. Ordered Sunday night, shipped Monday, and received today in London.
Case looks pretty nice. I like the face it's so slim, but not having button cutouts would annoy me.
Looks pretty nice. Thanks for the review!

screen protector brand pls?
thanks for posting.. Case looks good enuff for the price!
Is the included screen protector the 'fonem8' brand? Same business sells them in pack of 5 here
update: comes in clear plastic sheet, no branding on anything.. so not sure if its same product as fonem8
I ordered a generic case as well, but the shipping is taking forever though. At least I'll be happy knowing that it will actually fit quite well.
I'd either go generic s-line or the diztronic. This one works well for the price its selling for.

just an update in case anyone reading this..
finally got my this case in smoke black, fits very snugly. Also received 2x free screen protectors with it - they are very slim, hardly noticeable over the glass so im pretty happy with it all even tho there are better screen protectors out there.
only problem was Royal mail, very slow... took 2 over weeks to get to Aus.

Got mine too! It was a little under $3 comes with a screen protector and some kind of weird mini stylus.
Now my Nexus looks like a Nexus 5c :silly:
It's not a bad case, I might use this more than my Cruzerlite.
It looks nicer than the more expensive cases to me. Thanks for the pics.
I bought a neo hybrid case and then bought the s line case for £2.50. I have now returned the neo hybrid. S line case is much more comfortable to hold, and grippier but probably doesn't offer as much protection from drops. .

I got a s-line case too and really like it. It fits the phone well and doesn't add a lot of bulk. At first I was worried that it wouldn't fit properly since it's not one of the higher priced ones but overall, it's pretty good. Someone I know got the Spigen clear back case because of the Nexus white back showing through but turns out that the Spigen clear back case can get easily scratched up.
