Unusually fast data speeds - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Will post screenshot. I was in Pleasanton, CA on 4G and got OVER 9000 kbps download speeds. Have never come close to that with 4G anywhere else. What kind of speeds have you guys come across?

I get 8-12 mbps on wimax in the Cleveland area.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

i am getting anywhere from 4 to over 9 in Boston.

I usually get around 3-10Mbps in the DMV area. It fluctuates a lot at times which gets annoying. My friend had the Rezound (switched to G Nexus) but on the Rezound he got around 10Mbps.

Win.
Ok so not as abnormal as I thought. But Sprint needs to step their game up. Even if they lag behind on LTE and least get us some more "4G" coverage. This consistent >1 mbps nonsense is tempting me to switch, even if I will lose unlimited data.

Getting no more than 5 Mbps in NYC (Midtown Manhattan).
Less than that in the surrounding NYC Metro area.

I hit that when I was line of sight with the tower. Otherwise a mile away averages 3-4 mbps.

I tend to get 8-12 mbps in the small commercial area near my house in Jacksonville, Florida (I don't get 4g at home). At my dorm in Boston though, it ranges from .8 to 5 mbps.

You all are blazing fast compared to my crap area...

in the Dallas metro area i have had on the low side 1.5 megs down and on the high side 12 megs down. But on average 4-6megs down. Usually 1meg to 1.5 megs up..

I average 8Mbps down and 2Mbps up in Portland although 4G is spotty most of the time.

On 4G I usually get between 5 and 10 Mbps. And Sprint doesn't even have full 4G here in Detroit. I think that's pretty good speeds.

I was gonna post more speeds I got in Roseville, CA but when I try to include a picture the post doesnt submit. It just loads and gives up. Anyone else have this issue?

I've noticed this as well.. Ellicott City / Baltimore, MD.
A week or so ago I was getting 300ish kbps (yes, just about 6 times extremely optimal 56k modem speeds) and now we're hitting easily 5-8Mbit. All from the living room couch.
Can't embed/link, I'm still a nub.
1 bar 4G, 8485kbps down, 1005kbps up, 107 ping
Ev-do rev. A caps out at 3.1mbps or 387.5kBps. 900kBps is actually 7.2mbps, pretty decent IMO. A lowercase b designates bit, capital B designates byte. There are 8 bits in one byte!

Forgot to mention, ev-do rev a is 3g lol. Super bored at work ATM
This thread confuses me... The title says 4G (which would be Wimax), but everyone seems to be talking about 3G (would would be EVDO).
Just FYI, my 3G speeds remain around <500kb/s, if I've very, very lucky. They're typically <100kb/s.
I was talking about 3g because a prior post had mentioned their 3g speeds exceeding what ev-do rev a is technically capable of.

Network Vision rolling out in LA Market!

I just thought I'd let you guys Sprint has started upgrading the towers to Network vision here in Los Angeles.. The past two days my service has been down (obviously needed). Larry from the howard forums commented saying Sprint has started upgrading the towers in the Los Angeles market.. If you notice little to no signal you know why! I have already noticed a jump in speed from 40kbps to 1000kbps.
larryt510 said:
They have begun work on network vision here in the LA market (including those zips you listed). Only a handful of sites have been completed so far but more will be coming soon. I do not believe it would cause any long term outages though as the sites are normally taken off line (if necessary) at a time when there's the least impact on the users.

It's the Now or Later Network. If you actually have 10Mbps down WiMAX (which is about 5% of active WiMAX networks) you get things pretty fast. You still buffer YouTube for 10 seconds before it starts. Although on the highway about every OTHER tower in a WiMAX area you do a WiMAX-3G switch every 10 seconds.

The results you posted are consistent with my experience on Sprint in SE Michigan. I'm speaking past my knowledge here, but I believe the network hasn't been upgraded since the EVDO rollout some 5 or more years ago (aside from wimax of course (which is nearly non-existent in MI)). Now think of all the new smartphones and the demand on that old network.
I don't know that it has so much to do with wireless reception as it does the towers connection to the backbone and the demand on that connection. I get into some congested areas and have full signal but crawling data speed.
There's some speculation to ponder.

When I have hellish speeds I force roaming on the 11115 PRL. Whether or not it's immoral or that its a breach of contract, I think its justified given the fact that I was in Ashburn Virginia a few weeks ago and had a ping to Ashburn of something like 783. The speeds were pathetic as well, but forcing roaming brought both speeds and pings up to expected values. Good thing we know that Verizon can keep good connections.
That's some advice. There are some threads about loading the 11115 PRL which allows one to roam on Verizon's faster EVDO network. It's one of the more difficult mods I've done but the process is well documented.
Here I go talking outside my knowledge again. I believe that Sprint has to pay Verizon for the use of that roaming arrangement and they don't appreciate abusers. There have been posts about nasty grams and contract termination.

There are a number of factors that can affect your data speeds obviously, but imo SpeedTest.net is not exactly a reliable way to measure. I think its fine when using to test one setup vs the next on your phone, but I can get significantly different results from one moment to the next, from different locations, from different servers, etc.
i.e. I get crap speed on a server 40mi away but get pretty decent speed on one over 300mi away.
I also notice most times that even when I get bad test speeds, my downloads and browsing are usually still fair to great.
There are other, better sites you can use for testing. I cant remember right off hand but there is a post in my modem thread with some listed. Ill try to remember to check it in a bit and will post some here for you.
There are also some other tweaks that can help, such as these in build.prop:
ro.ril.hsxpa=3
ro.ril.gprsclass=12 (or 32, 34, 36)
I have plans to post a lot more info about this in that thread. Just gotta get my computer back up and get a little more organized!
Hope this helps some of you for the time being!

Yes! I'm wondering if it had anything to do with the software upgrade. My data used to be blazing fast. Now I can be stuck with 100-200 for download

Mine are far better than they were on my 3D. Plus I get LTE now at work, love it.

My data speeds are better than they were on my E4GT. We are still on 3G here.

Maybe Sprint is upgrading the towers there. I heard the speeds get slow while the work is under way...
New LTE towers in Austin installed this month. Lays just say I'm not complaining.

Doesn't this phone not have EVDO but SVDO or something of nature? When it comes to 3G it all depends on your location to pick up SVDO speeds. During speedtests in my area, with full bars, I'll get 1.2mbps down but most of the time I struggle to hit 1. In my girlfriends neighborhood...it is constantly 2-3mbps down. I would imagine because her 3G towers are upgraded already? The only reason it doesn't bother me is because I actually have 4G LTE most of the time in my house and whenever I go outside or down the street etc.
Data speed is awful here....even close to the tower.
When I upgraded to the Note 2 they took away my discount. Now I have crappy data AND a higher bill. We aren't supposed to get LTE until end of 2013 in St. Louis. I really don't think we will get in the small town I live in at all. So, I think I am taking this back and switch to AT&T. What good is unlimited data if its so slow that I cant use it. At&t us the only option. T mobile and vzw have no coverage here. Sprint was of no help including the retentions department. BYE SPRINT

That would be awesome for me. I easily hit under 100 at work with full signal.

Switched towers in the speed test app. Forgot to screen shot the original test. Once I get to work tomorrow morning, ill redo the test and screen shoot it. Test was performed at home for this thread. There are two Sprint 4g w/LTE towers in the process of going live in my area (Lincoln Park, MI). Till Sprint gets on the ball with better service around here, will just have to put up with things. My phone was doing going whacko w/roaming m and "preparing network" mesgs. As I typed this, got a preparing network mesg. Again, people with patience are needed while on Sprint's service..lool.

What you're speaking of is eHPRD that's the high speed 3g you're seeing, if you're getting that, chances are LTE is nearby or being turned on soon

Here's the new test while at my work. As you see huge difference then when at home. Thats due to being much closer to the tower.
