Big thanks to RoadRAGEN for helping me figure out an ext4 issue! Odin this to get Deodexed stock EG30 with latest root and su binary and Busybox 1.18.4.
This does not wipe data.
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. You do this at your own risk.
I have only tested this with the stock kernel and Bubby's CWM kernel.
Download
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have installed the proper XP or Win7 drivers before starting. Also, remove the SD card from the phone (this may not be necessary, but having the SD card installed has caused Odin to fail for a number of people, so might as well just do it).
1. Extract the contents of the zip file to a folder
2. Open odin
3. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold v-down + power)
4. connect phone (you should see odin put a Com4 or something like that in the first box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it)
5. The only box that should be checked is Auto Reboot.
6. You do not need to choose a pit file.
7. In the PDA Section choose the tar file. (Deodexed-Rooted-Busybox-EG30.tar)
8. Hit start. It will do its thing.
9. If it fails than try a new cable.
10. If the phone hangs for any reason take the battery and sdcard out and let it sit for an hour. Put it back together and try again.

This does not contain a kernel. This is a stock file system that is rooted with busybox. I have tested on the root kernel and Bubby's CWM kernel. I have not tested on the Zedomax kernel.
Cool thanks!

File is up.
My phone is not rooted. If I flash this I will be rooted with the Kernel that was on the phone out of box? Also if I then flash Clock work recovery will it change the Kernel to the one others are claiming LOS on?

That is correct. It will be just like flashing with the stock kernel which I have done. If you flash CWM it will change the kernel. Whether or not you get the LOS is up in the air. I have been using it for days and haven't had it yet.
Just so I have this straight, this is a stock rom, no kernel, deoxed so once installed I can flash a theme over it.
I flashed buddies kernel with cwm rooted and flashed back to the stock kernel is there anything I need to do with my kernel or can I just flash this rom?
Edit: he beat me to it, must have been typing at the same time.

Ok...so the only way to have CWM is to change the kernel? I guess rom manager doesn't work for flashing CWM? Sorry if its a stupid question but I have been all over these threads for a week trying to decide which way to root and which way is better.

thanks bro.. One more question does this wipe internal sd card?
This does not have the kernel. I left it out for people to make their own decision on what kernel to use. Once we get a completely stock kernel with stock CWM I will update it. But for now it is just the system partion.

because the only way to receive the ota update is to be completely stock. as far upgrading to ICS, if you have clockworkmod recovery you can just flash any custom rom as long as you follow the instructions posted in the OP for that specific rom. If you dont have CWM than just use autoroot to flash a CWM recovery (since your on GB). Since your already rooted just use the option for flashing the recovery. Autoroot is a sticky thread i believe.
How do I know if I have CWM recovery?

You probably don't have cwm. Use the "sfhub's autoroot package" to get cwm. Search for it. Then head to android development section to get any custom rom.

the link below is the link for shub autoroot package. download and unzip it. read the instructions very carefully as long as you follow them you will get clockworkmod recovery

below is the link for the development section. here is where you can download the ROM you would like. We have a bunch of great devs so there are a ton of different ROMs to choose from FF18 is the official sprint update for the e4gt. personally i like the Blu Kuban ROM but you'll have to look through the threads and see what you like. There are some that are stock themed with root. Its all up to what you want. I would say look at the instructions for the ROMs very carefully as some ROMs need to be installed in 2 parts. So make sure you READ it twice if you have to.

I was recently asked to post some threads here on XDA with the tutorials I have on my site. As time permits I will be posting a series of threads here to the Q&A section that will hopefully answer most questions that might come up.
If you can't find your answer in one of my threads I would highly recommend BluesRulez One Stop FAQ Thread. It is an awesome resource and has answers to just about every question I've seen come up!

This thread details the process of how to root your device without having to flash a full stock ROM. This method works for the Sprint, Boost and Virgin Samsung Galaxy S2 (SPH-D710, SPH-D710BST and SPH-D710VMUB).
This method uses an Odin One-Click Kernel to install a kernel that includes a Custom Recovery. Once booted into the Custom Recovery you can then flash Superuser which will root your phone and give you Superuser access.
Prerequisites:
A PC running Windows with the Samsung Mobile Drivers Installed. The Samsung Mobile Drivers are available here.
Any One-Click Kernel (preferably from the Android version you will be using, i.e. GB, ICS or JB).
All Sprint One-Click Recovery kernels can be found here.
For this particular tutorial I used the following kernels:
Gingerbread: Chris41g's EL26 Stock CWM5 Repack
Ice Cream Sandwich: Agat63's tFI27 Stock Recovery Repack (rev 2)
Jelly Bean: Agat63's Source-Built GB27 Recovery
Superuser (or SuperSU, MIUI Security, and etc) in a flashable zip, saved on your Internal or External SD Card. For this method I used SuperSU v1.25 (but any SU in a flashable ZIP should work). You can download several different versions here.
Although not required it is recommended that you have Samsung Kies installed on your PC as well. You can download Samsung Kies here.
Side-Effects:
This method will trigger the Yellow Triangle upon start-up and will increase your Odin count.
It will also change your startup screen to look like the International GS2 startup screen.
Both of these side-effects are very easy to overcome due to the hard work of Chainfire and Garwynn. You can get TriangleAway from Chainfire's thread here.
For the rest of the tutorial please visit my site: www.rwilco12.com
Enjoy!

You might have to turn SU on depending on which version you flashed. Open the app and see if under settings you see something like "Enable SuperUser" and make sure it's enabled.
If that doesn't fix it we may need to try another zip with a different set of symlinks. Either way, we're here for you and will get you squared away.

If you're asking - Can I flash VM builds on the Sprint D710, the answer is - yes. Did it when I tested the builds and everything worked properly.
If you're asking - Can I flash a VM build and be on VM service? Obviously you'll need to be activated to their service and provisioned properly. That's when you'd need to make sure that mmsc/apn/nv data is captured. I don't know if VM is a byod provider. (write that shiz down)

Yes. Many, many people have used this method successfully.
There's nothing wrong with a stock kernel, it just doesn't have a custom recovery packed into it or any kernel tweaks.
But I am confused... If you're already rooted why are you pulling your hair out?

K. Before you dive in too much further I would recommend doing a little more research. This device had had issues in the past that have made it very easy to brick. You should be very careful.
As a side note - This thread is a how to root thread but it sounds like you're already rooted. I don't know that there's any reason to reroot your device. You don't actually have to be rooted to get on JB either. You could just flash a one-click of a JB ROM.
First of all a huge thanks to Team Sextape for the MC2 release. Thanks to Calkulin for use of the install script. Thanks to Chainfire for SuperSU.
Flash this to get Deodexed/Odexed stock MC2 with latest root (SuperSU), su binary and Busybox 1.20.2. These Do Not include a kernel or any other firmware.
All of the zips wipe cache and dalvik for you so no need to do that separately.

I DON'T HAVE THIS PHONE SO PLEASE MAKE A NANDROID FIRST
This is a Jelly Bean Rom. As I stated earlier it does not include a kernel. So if you are coming from a Rom that isn't Jelly Bean you need to first install a Touchwiz based safe Jelly Bean kernel. So copy the Jelly Bean kernel to your phone. Boot into your recovery. Flash the Jelly Bean kernel and then flash this Rom. Or if you are using Odin just Odin the Jelly Bean kernel and install the Rom.

What your coming from wouldn't matter much. Stock is Odexed and Deodexed is mainly for theming and Mods. You can switch back and forth at any time. Remember that this doesn't include the firmware so you would want to install those separately if you choose to use the Rom. I am uploading new versions to fix the install error so I would wait for that. Also people have said there are some bugs in MC2. So that is up to you on whether you want to give it a try or not.

There have been many issues with the Toolkit previously linked. I used it back in December to root my phone, but a lot has changed since then and JB in general made it much less stable. I used to recommend it to people, but now I always point people to the Rooting Guide. If you want to start completely from scratch, I'd recommend using the stock TAR file from Sextape's forum. All you have to do is flash it from Odin. Sextape has instructions in their thread. The one you'll most-likely want to download is the "Restore Rooted" version, which I have quoted below:

Personally, I use (and recommend) TWRP. You can install it once you have root through the goo.im app, GooManager (under menu -> install openrecovery script).
If you really want CWM, I believe you can install it through Rom Manager (obviously this requires root access as well).

I'm not tied to cwm at all I was just following a thread that suggested it.
But once I reboot (with no acore errors I hope), google play should work right then?

I've never heard of an acore error, so I can't comment on that, but yes, Google play should work after re-flashing the stock tar file.

it's errors that sometimes pop up when flashing, only solution is back to stock then unrooting again.
OK cool. downloading the file you suggested. thanks again.
which ROM do you use for your S3?

It's in my signature, Liquidsmooth v2.2. I haven't had the time to upgrade to v2.3 yet, but I will soon.

one more question so the order is: Rooted_Restore ----> Goo Manager (in google play) -----> TWRP ----> Liquidsmooth v2.2 ?

Goo manager ----> Download rom ---> Transfer to phone ---> TWRP ----> Format /system, /data (NOT /data/media because thats the internal storage), and /cache ----> Flash rom

All this was a HUGE help. A lot has changed since I bought a phone 3 years ago.
Now the challenge is finding a free hotspot tether that works. Even TrevE's didn't work properly with my rom
