Use something like root explorer, open up the root, go to EMMC. That is your external SD.

WRONG THREAD + NOT REAL ISSUE = BAN

1 wrong forum.
2 external sd does work
3 no such thing as newb cred
4 post your rom issues in the thread pertaining to the rom.
5 posts like this will make people ignore and dislike you immediately

2: by "work" it is located in /emmc instead of /sdcard/external_SD (need root with oi file manager, es file explorer, or root explorer to see it)
AKA: It's broke by definition, fixed in just it is "accessible".
3: he can't post in some areas until he has X number of posts (aka "newb cred")
5: Nah, he ranks lower on my dislike scale than arrogant/obstinate developers. So I like him.

[Q] Internal Memory

Can't find a thread for this on the forum.
Been exploring the phone memory using file manager app, and found the folder system/app which contains a lot of the system apk and odex files and is 106mb.
Is it safe to move this to the SD card? Folder shows a last modified date of 16/04/2011 which is 3 months before I bought the phone.
This would free up a huge chunk of the phone memory and provide more room for messages & contacts which is what I'm hoping to achieve, as well as space for apps which won't move to SD card.

if am not mistaken you need to be rooted for that...
Think you might be right on this one.
Tried moving one of the apks, and it copied rather than just moving it.
Also wouldn't let me delete.
I'm a bit of a noob (don't hate me), and not sure where to start with rooting, so a couple of questions (and apologies if they're really obvious).
1) I've read around a bit, and there seems to be a disagreement about whether rooting invalidates warranty? Is there a definitive answer?
2) If all I want to do is move stuff out of the phone memory, what is the easiest/safest way of rooting?
3) Does anyone know any way of making the files in the system folder not "read only"

Well far as i know - the answers to your questions would be in the following order :
1 - Well there might not be a definitive answer and that might depend on your providers policy etc -
2 - The safest way to move stuff is rooting and if you want to know more about rooting you can find multiple threads about that in the development section such as this one :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275
But you need to make sure your device is "S-OFF" and not "S-ON" -
3 - I wouldn't recommend messing about with the default settings of system files etc -
i wouldn't recommend rooting, you can use APP2SD softwares to move your installed applications to SD without rooting, unless you really know what are you doing
I've been on Android for about 2 years now. Just bought the Samsung GSII for myself and my girlfriend got the Wildfire S.
She's only installed maybe 7-8 apps (if that), most have since been moved to the SD card, but she's constantly receiving a message about a lack of internal memory.
Is there any way to move all her apps to the SD card, or another way to free up some space?
** I'd like to do all this without rooting her phone. I'm a complete novice when it comes to modifying phones - only just got the hang of using different launchers.
I'm afraid that in order to move unmovable apps to the SD card, you will have to root the device.
You need to have a phone that is s-off in order to root, no other option as far as I am aware.

[Q] Internal file structure all changed after trying a CyanogenMod ROM

I went from a 4.2 Touchwiz based ROM to a 4.3 CyanogenMod based ROM and the folder structure on Internal Memory has completely changed. I imagine and hope people are familiar with this as it is kind of hard to describe - new "0" folder with all the original internal data in it/folders inside folders with the same name, some with data, some without/etc...I found it a confusing mess.
In the first place it made using the CM rom not a pleasant experience as the phone couldn't see things like my Titanium Backup data, my recovery backups, etc...But even after I managed to find, relocate and restore my TW nandroid (not an easy task in itself) it is still screwed up. It is a bit easier to negotiate the memory structure on the PC but I can't just move folders around back to where they were if I could even remember it right because it won't let me move the Android folder. I really would just like to get it back to where it was.
I'm willing to jump through a few hoops if there is a way that anyone knows of, with maybe backups and reformatting or something like that.
Many many thanks for any help!
4.2 CM Based int sdcard's always been 'sdcard/emulated/0'
have you tried moving folders via recovery from 'emulated/0' to /sdcard/?
I will try that thank you. On the PC even before I found out I couldn't move the Android folder, it was such a large amount of files to move that it froze up. I have a good fast PC so I assume the phone didn't like it. I'll give this a shot thanks again.
What phone model do you have? I am 80% sure sprint doesn't have a 4.2 touchwiz ROM, but I may be incorrect. Have you tried moving all the folders in the 0 back up to the root folder?

Hey Whiplashh I recognize you from Dazed's thread Dammit man you and Spark91 are right I always get confused by it being version 4.2 of the Wicked Sensations rom... but yes it is only Android version 4.1.2. So anyway yes I did try that on the pc - first it just totally bogged and the file move wasn't moving at all. So I tried doing it in small chunks and was making progress until I got an error message that the android folder could not be moved. I am going to try to do it within recovery a little later tonight. Thanks for the input man I appreciate it

Just warning you, when I used ES Fike explorer, it won't let you move that android folder. I usually just delete it and restore my app data with a backup app.
And I see. That is where I know you from! Lol. You really did confuse me with the 4.2 touchwiz! I thought there was an update!! But I understand. I do the same thing but it pays off for me because I stick with v4.1 of wicked.

Hmm...then I imagine Root Explorer wouldn't work either. But hopefully using the file explorer within TWRP will bypass that restriction. I'm trying to work up the courage to do it haha.
And yeah I remember you always saying that wicked 4.1 was working so well for you that you didn't want to upgrade to 4.2
Oh btw now I just noticed that my notification LED is not working...grrr. Why oh why did I stray? (Actually I know why - when Dazed decided to close the thread I took it as a sign from above to try something new after so long on WS). Anyway if you or anyone has a tip lay it on me!
I joined this forum just because i am having a similar problem, i have had many rooted phones and custom roms but never exprienced duplicate file structures.. I went from stock 4.1.2 installed cwm cleared data then installed cm 10.1.3 RC1. My issue is that in root explorer have:
/sdcard/
/storage/emulated/0
/storage/emulated/legacy
/storage/sdcard0/
File paths all lead to the same folders and "update" when i download files. Ive already accidentally deleted all my media in an attempt to consolidate folders.
What should i attempt next? I would like to only have internal storage, /sdcard/ path for onboard sd storage, then still have /extSdcard/.
Im puzzled and tired of 4 copied file locations. Thanks in adv. guys!

Hello krs_uno - I just finished correcting the issue and all seems to be working perfectly. This is what to do...first of all do it on the PC because it is much simpler - all those confusing new folders on the phone's file browser just show up on the PC as 2 tiers of a folder called "0". All you do is simply cut and paste everything from the 0 folder back into the root of internal memory - on the PC referred to as "Phone", and what we want to show up in the "sdcard" folder on the phone. [edit: I forgot to say you should cut and paste in moderate sized chunks or it looks like it's too much for the phone (or PC?) to handle...it bogs/freezes.] The only trick is that to move the "Android" folder you have to rename it first or it won't allow the move (not in recovery on phone either - I tried using the file browser in TWRP). Just rename it again after. If you already have a new Android folder in the root destination (from whatever activity you have done since this mess started) just merge the contents. Same for anything else in there that you want to keep. Then just delete the 0 folder structure - everything on my phone in Root Explorer now looks exactly the same as it did before the mess started (having looked just as you described above beforehand).
I hope it works the same for you...it should.
My notification LED seems to be functioning normally again :good:

You could try TWRP. And I don't know why he closed it. Well I do and it is very understandable but his and stock is the 2 ROMs I run most. 4.1 ran and still runs beautifully for me.

I'm all good now (see 2 posts up). Yeah it sure is understandable. I don't know what's gonna get me to switch again...this is by far the best working and looking ROM I've used on any device. I'll follow some of the threads for the new ROMS and maybe in time if something looks really great and stable - I just hate the new file structure (not crazy about some of the changes in the functionality of 4.3 either). Maybe a full internal memory wipe before installing a new version of Android would be benficial...IDK

Through windows i only see the Internal Storage and extSdcard folders, the Internal storage only relates to the sdcard folder in my file browser. I do not see storage or 0 as a file path. Its not even inside of Internal storage, Im going to try wiping data and formatting the internal SD before installing cm 10.1.3 could that fix it?
I think im going to go back to cm 10.1.2 for now its apparently more stable..
I'm sorry I really don't know. I don't know why it doesn't look the same on your computer. Are u coming from a TouchWiz rom? If not maybe that's why? I do like the idea of formatting the internal sd if you're willing to do that. I'm sorry I'm not more help - I kinda just know the little that I know Hopefully someone else will chime in.

thekrautdog- You were defintely helpful, i did come from stock samsung 4.1.2 which is touch wiz.. maybe formating sdcard will help before a clean install..
I usually keep my stuff strictly on external sd only too, but seeing that wacky file structure had me bent.

For future reference, It's customary and relevant to mention what rom/build you have when asking for help. Also titles should be descriptive/specific not braud/generic. For example, better titke would have been "SD card is write protected"
PS. If you had used search (like you're supposed to) and used the descriptive title as your keywords you would have found your help already exists.

I did the 1 click root fix viahttp://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
Generally it worked fine , the problem is that i did this with the explicit goal of only fixing the SD writing and storage issues
the phone only has roughly 2 gigs and 80% kitkat soaks up and not that im like app happy or anything but it makes app installation even weaker than an older cheaper phone thus killing a lot of the reason to have this fairly nice phone except for the camera which is fundamentally a non-prime reason to have this phone just a bonus.
So i installed the NextApp SDfix from the app store and applied its fix , and nothing especially changed , i also then installed link2SD
for further memory management. I can see a lot of info and i see how the system basically has the primary system memory with a legacy/emulated storage space as 2 seperate but basically same partition.
Then it recognizes as a entirely seperate ext memory the sd card , now since having tweaked with both these apps and everything generally running fine , i've moved this and that and dont have barely the basics installed i.e instagram/twitter/ ect ,... the system has about on the system drive some 300mb free obviously not a lot space in this age it is being very selective of what it will install and download from the app store , i was luckily able to reinstall CLEANMASTER after uninstalling it but i can't reinstall FACEBOOK
or download and install next to anything else that i've tried i keep getting the same error , the SD card is nearly entirely free with plenty of space soooooo
long story , made longer How can i adjust this , How can i maybe fool the o/s to think the SD card is the primary partition or something similar can i undo this? (not the root i know i can undo the root and or just start fresh from a hardreset or something
Any Input is appreciated , i am as the name so obviously suggests a new rooter not very experienced in android sw , though i was able to tweak around with iphone3s and jailbreak them which admittedly was rather fun.
Im only wanting this just so i stop getting that blasted insufficient storage error blasted google
this is technically a repost as i did post this in that said thread above but i wasnt sure if it was the right place for the inquiry
Hi! I saw your other post too. I can't answer your main question, but I can answer two of the others.
1. To have a thread or post of yours deleted, in a browser (not Tapatalk nor XDA app) choose the exclamation point on your post to report your own post to the moderator and then write them to ask that they delete it.
2. The other post in the one-click thread was slightly more appropriate since these are the LG G3 sections and at least that one is the one click method thread, but your main question has nothing to do with either so you should report this thread to have it deleted and create a thread in the Q&A section of the forum for your particular phone. The Link2SD thread might be another appropriate place, but only choose one place.
3. I know it wasn't intentional, but double posting is a definite no no. At minimum of noone responds to one post you should report your post to be deleted and then post the question somewhere else that's still appropriate. If your first post is a new thread, it's fine to reply (no quote) to your post by saying "Bump" in order for the forum to put the post back up to the top where people might notice it again. Bumping shouldn't be done before 48 hours.
Welcome to the forum anyway and I feel your pain, my first Android phone was more like a teaser Android with around 384 MB of ROM and no internal storage. Not politically correct and no offense meant to anyone but I refer to my first Android phone as the retarded little brother of the HTC Droid Incredible. It was the Droid Eris.
Good luck.

Transferring an application to a storage card

Hello, use your operating system Lineage OS, please tell me, how can I transfer applications from the phone to the memory card using the root?
You cant always do that it depends on the app sometimes they use things in the root level of the phone so you cant move to sd.

What is it that I do not really understand, that I do not always do? What kind of things does the application use? If anything on the phone installed as root. I tried to break the sd card into two parts and one part I formatted for the applications. second removable. so that it can be used on a computer, but the operating system for some reason formatted them both made one section and now it can not be used on a computer. Tell me please, what can I do, that after the sd card is broken, the system does not format both of them, but leaves the section for reading from the computer?
