Did you guys with imported gsm galaxy nexus get your update?
I thought it would be nice to have a thread about when updates were being received for GSM Nexus in the US. When did you get the update? Where did you buy your nexus? What country is your GSM nexus imported from? Also what carrier are you using?
I got the 4.0.2 update pushed to my imported (UK -> US) GN yesterday. I installed a custom ROM running 4.0.2 and it went away though.
I guess ill start. Im running 4.0.1 on T-Mobile and still havent gotten mine yet. Got it from expansys and i think its from UK. I did get the first OTA update to 4.0.1 when i turned the phone for the first time 2 weeks ago.

lol ops did see that.
I'm on at&t in California and as soon as I powered on my phone and had gotten sufficient hspa speeds, my phone updated, but only to 4.0.1. I bought my GN from Negri

I'm on T-Mobile, ordered from Expansys as well, but still no update to 4.0.2
I did get the volume bug fix when the phone was first powered on as well.

Same with me.
It makes no difference what carrier you are on or where you are geographically. When your IMEI is up and you at minimum are connected to wifi when it checks you will be notified. You don't even need a SIM in the phone. Also it would probably help that you have the yakju Google build.

I got my GNex from Negri Electronics. Originally, I had the Samsung firmware build, so I flashed the stock yakju 4.0.1 image. I still haven't received the OTA.
I have a GSM version from Handtec. It arrived Tues morning. It received 4.0.1 update the first time I fired it up. I received 4.0.2 update? Wed? Or? Thurs?, can't remember. I'm on AT&T, for what its worth.

I'm on T-Mobile. Has anyone else received an update notification? If it matters I got mine shipped a while back from Handtec after the very first batch but on the second.
Exactly the same situation here.
Expansys import (presumably from UK)
Yakju
now at 4.0.1 (I do remember getting 4.0.1)
No 4.0.2 (or 4.0.3, for that matter)
Check-in succeeds but has no effect
updates
got my gnex yesterday played with for half a day no update, came with itl41d 4.0.1
got 4.0.2 update from google page myself, and pushed via fastboot.
Got tired of waiting. Updated manually using these instructions: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...-0-2-using-factory-imgs-w-o-wiping-phone.html

Not true, it will notify on HSPA as well. Mine offered to update with the volume bug fix before I could even leave the store with the phone.
On T-Mobile here. Got on 4.0.1 within minutes of turning on the phone. Still no 4.0.2.

tmo here still on 4.0.1
Got my Galaxy Nexus from Expansys...still waiting on 4.0.2 but got the 4.0.1 update. Since 2007, I have only used an iPhone (jailbroken and unlocked) - so this whole update process is new to me.
I am on T-Mobile, but I am not sure carrier has anything to do with it...from reading other posts it seems its IMEI. My question is - on previous Android updates whats the estimated window (maximum) it takes for the update to be pushed out to all devices? A week, month?
Expansys USA unit (originally from UK)
T-Mobile
Got the 4.0.1 update as soon as I turned the phone on
Still no 4.0.2

OK, mid you that the answers I got from Samsung Romania customer support where over the telephone not mail so......
According to the support ppl there are no differences between yakju and yakjuxw. They both get updates from Google not one from Google (yakju) and the other one from Samsung (yakjuxw). They also said that yakjuxw is for more specific countries or zones as well as for certain carriers, thus some phones with yakjuxw may have some personalized software, ring tones or wallpapers that other yakjuxw don't have. The yakju version is the, let's say universal version with no specific crap in it so the updates come first and quicker to this version then the yakjuxw.
I can confirm that the service support for GN phones of Vodafone Romania told me that I will not loose my warranty if I install yakju version on the phone, of course they official Google version found on their site. They also told me that if I unlock my phone via code from any other source except Vodafone that will void the warranty, so bummer there.
The fact of the matter is that there are ppl that flashed yakju to a yakjuxw Gn and still didn't get the 4.0.2 update while other got it.
The are ppl with yakju by stock that didn't get 4.0.2 yet.
Again this was over the phone with a customer support person, although I have sent Samsung an email about 11 days ago I have still yet to receive an answer from them.
For those of us with yakjuxw all that remains for us to do is wait and see how long will it take for 4.0.2 to get to us or flash to yakju and hope OTA updates will be on their marry way to our GN and that flashing yakju will actually mean getting the updates as quick as the ones with stock yakju.
One question for those who flashed yakju over yakjuxw:
After flashing yakju in Android System info does it still say Samsung in Brand? Or does it say Google? We all know that yakjuxw have Brand: Samsung while yakju have Brand: Google.
Cheers
I changed from yakjuxw to yakju and Android System Info says Brand: google. It was samsung before..
But still no update to 4.0.2, but I guess that Google stopped the updates for some reason. Many people with original yakju devices don't have the update yet, too..
My verizon galaxy nexus (mysid) shows google as the brand as well. can someone with a gsm galaxy nexus post a screenshot of android system info for comparison?
It's good to know that the brand also changes from samsung to google.
Here is the screenshot
Here's a shot of mine.
What does the host line mean?
In most phones, at Brand section apears the name of the carrier, like T-Mobile, Vodafone or any other company, In this case is Samsung.
Samung Kies is incompatible with GN so the question remains: who is responsable with deploying updates for these phones and how?
The support person from samsung told me that if I try to update GN with Kies, it won't work. I haven't tried it yet to see if it's true.
Like I sayd in my first post, according to samsung all GN are supported and updated via OTA by google and only by google as it's a full google phone. If this is true or not, remains to be seen with future updates.
As mentioned in other threads, Samsung made the region/carrier changes to original yakju build to support different regions/carriers, thus the various yakju** variants. Ideally they should send these changes back to Google to be incorporated into the main AOSP branch. So hopefully with a major future OTA release, Google will bring all GSM GN's into a single OTA profile.

I've flashed yakju over yakjuxw and did get the 4.0.2 the 2nd day after it was officially released, so it goes to say that there are people who flashed yakju and got the update.

I think the rep wasn't lying about what he said above, because 1 of the differences between yakju and yakjuxw that I've seen is that Samsung's build, yakjuxw had 30-40 more ringtones than the official Google build. Also maybe some more wallpapers. Other than that, I didn't see any changes.
My question on this problem is the following: is there some IMPORTANT part of the firmware that is different ? Something like the baseband or settings missing or etc. ? That kind of important. Ringtones are not that important, so it doesn't really matter that they are missing from Google build, I can live with that. But if a baseband is different and it affects the reception, now that is something very important. So, are there any important differences like that ?

That's really good to know. So if I check in the service store with my phone with unlocked bootloader and yakju build, everything's fine ?

That was obvious. What isn't necessarily obvious is the fact that the phone came locked on Vodafone. Is it true, did you check ?
The phone is locked on Vodafone.
I really can't say what would happen if you would go to vodafone service with the bootloader unlocked and yakju instead of yakjuxw. Let's hope it wont come to that....

But that's the CDMA version...not what these guys are talking about. Ours is different anyway (since we're using Toro).
I was just pointing out that even though the phone is on Verizon, the brand is still shown as Google.

Anybody with a bell/virgin galaxy nexus in Canada receive the 4.02 update?
Im assuming all devices sold in Canada are yakjuux.
EDIT: As soon as i powered on my nexus the first time it received an update, but the version number didn't change, stayed on 4.01.
Got a yakjuux from Pac Mall but it's still on 4.01 as well. Got that same initial update.
I have a yakju and still dont have a update
If we're to rely on Bell or Virgin to push updates (or even Samsung for that matter) then good luck lol.
I also recieved that update when I first turned mine on, I have a feeling that might have just been the volume patch quick fix? It would make sense as it was likely that issue came to light JUST as the phones for Bell and Virgin were shipping out.
I'm using mine on WIND anyway so I went straight to Google stock yakju 4.0.2 and haven't looked back... LOVING the GN (except a few font glitches that I'm assuming and hoping are only software) and getting about a 7mb down connection with WIND so I can't complain.
Sometimes (especially with Android VS the carriers) we need to take matters into our own hands! (as i type this out on an HP touchpad lol).
rAy
Edit: I should also note that data tethering works fantastic with it, in fact the laptop was getting a better connection than the phone (and of most basic Rogers cable net connections). I had no problem connecting a few laptops, a tablet and another phone to it with strong signals.
I'm still on 4.0.1 as well.
Received an update upon firing up my GN for the first time.
However, I don't think it was the 4.0.2 update.
Hello everyone,
I was wondering how many of my fellow Canucks have received the 4.0.2 update. My cousin in Toronto received the OTA update last week. I am in London and have yet to receive the update. Also, do they roll it out based on IMEI number, phone number, location, etc? Thanks!
I haven't gotten it yet, I have a feeling it's been pulled because it broke the Market somehow, and NFC was also reported to be missing.
I heard of people receiving the OTA notification in early March and then apparently it was pulled because, as you say, it was inactivating NFC and the Market. However, my cousin received his update just last week and I assumed that they had begun to release it again. The Google Play update fixed the market issue anyway, but I have not asked him if his NFC works.
It seems to me that they should just forget about 4.0.2 at this point and just wait until the next revision. Might be another several months for us Canucks though lol
With Bell and got the phone release date.
I got the update when if first appeard in Canada (early March). But had to fix the NFC issue with a patch and is working fine now.
My wife's gnex on Rogers (bought on Rogers official rls date ~ mid Jan) has not received the update however.
Sammy Canada confirmed it had pulled the update due to "issues"
I didn't have it about 2 weeks after the update first went live, so I gave up and flashed a 4.0.3 ROM.
Same here, I didn't get it on Telus Vancouver so I flashed AOKP.

I have limited experience in this regard, but I may just flash to CM9 once it is released. I'm disappointed that Canada is so far behind the rest of the world when it comes to these updates.
Even if they had not encountered any problems, we would have officially received 4.0.2 several months after the rest of the world right?
Either flash the yakjuux 4.0.2 update yourself (see here), or flash the yakju 4.0.2 images yourself (see here). Problem solved.

Apart from being on the latest and greatest, which is why many of us bought Nexus phones, is there something in 4.0.2 you really really want? I'm still on stock yakjuux on 4.0.1 and have not yet received the OTA update either, but looking at the unofficial changelogs, I don't think there is anything in the update that would change my user experience

Means you can use any other gsm sim on it. this is useful specially those who buy a carrier locked phone and use it in another country with a different sim so as not to incur exorbitant roaming charges.
I see JB roms, did this phone already get JB? If not, are there any fully working JB roms and is there a date the official update comes out? Thanks for the help.
JB has already been pushed out as an OTA from Google. Every device may not have received it yet, but it has been out for several weeks now.

Does this also apply to the Verizon model? This is where I'm confused. If it's not, why wouldn't it be available if it is on the others?

as of right now jellybean is not available for the verizon model, there is a ported gsm version of jellybean that works on verizon gnex . click here
Considering the way Verizon treat the Galaxy Nexus, I don't expect them to release Jelly Bean for it in a couple months, but there is always custom rom.

GSM models have 4.1.1 OTA if you're of the "takju" or "yakju" firmware variant, which are updated directly by Google. Other variants, such as yakjuxw and yakjujp have yet to be updated.
CDMA models have yet to receive an OTA.
Unfortunately Verizon is notorious for this when it comes to updates. Especially when it comes to the Nexus. It took forever to do any updates on the Nexus and it still has signal issues that were suppose to fixed months ago.
