How the hell do you use Google Wallet? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I setup my GW today and went to Sheetz to try to use it. I sat there like an idiot with my phone out as it did nothing and the line backed up behind me. How close do you have to get to the paypass thing?

It shouldn't be difficult, just bring your phone near the pay pass reader and it just works

lol 6 inches? you gotta almost touch it to the terminal. Ever see how close you have to get 2 phones together for android beam? like that close.
You should be happy that for your own security it doesn't work from 6inches away.

ahhh ok thanks, ill try again tomorrow before work

I tried at my local CVS today and they found out that their card reader didn't have pay pass activated, even though it supports it. The manager told me they had no idea how to set it up and that they really didn't care - in the past year that they have had it Im the only one that has ever asked about the feature.

Quick question, I am getting my gsm gn tomorrow. Which stores have paypass? like Starbucks , walmart, bestbuy? Tbh I haven't seen any paypass symbols b4. My area, while not a big city at all, is pretty well developed, even has vz lte.

They have a app in the market developed by mastercard to find nearest pay pass
It's called paypass locator

Thanks for the updates guys, just installed Google Wallet and received $10!
So what can you use it ANYWHERE a MasterCard PayPass is accepted? How do you do it? I'm always nervous to just try to swipe my phone up there, I dunno!
are you guys installing it using the APK?
question guys.. are you guys launching the app prior to swiping or just waking the phone/unlocking?

I think it's after you unlock it but I'm not sure. I just unlocked it so I don't look like an idiot if unlocking is required
I did the same exact thing. Got a double quarter pounder meal!
The people who worked there loved it.
All you have to do is when they're ready for you to pay, take out your phone, unlock it from the lock screen, then hold it to the reader (for them it's the little red pad above the card reader) takes less than a second before it registers the connection and pays for it. was able to take the phone out touch the pad and put it back in my pocket all in one motion. bam. it's that easy.
Me too! I just popped my NFC cherry at Jack In The Box. Thanks Google!
I first used it at my local grocery store. I found it to be very easy. To use G-wallet you have to set everything up in wallet first, obviously. Once you have a default card selected you can exit the app. Go to the store, simply wake the phone / unlock it if you use a lock screen, select credit on the stores pay pass system, hold the back of the phone to the NFC reader and the wallet app will pop up asking for your pin. Enter the pin and place the phone back on the NFC reader and you will hear a beep. That's it!

I have a GSM GNEX with Google Wallet and all, but I have to admit, that's a brilliant idea.
(runs off to make a case that holds your NFC credit card so it's not visible)
Instant NFC back. It's actually logical......
It's one thing to have it built into a case where it's not visible but an entirely other to just stick it on the back with some tape or glue ...pretty tacky if you ask me...

and I'm sorry to hear that you all have problems with NFC but it has always worked first go for me. You can set your pw timeout in wallet so you dont have to go through the pin process. I have Wallet in my google folder on the home screen. All i have to do is wake up my phone tap twice and scan. What is the last part after entering your pin? I'm confused by tab and send. I've used my phone pretty much everyday since buying it to pay for something and I have never done anything other than unlock and enter the pin. I usually do this while standing in line and since the app stays unlocked for roughly 5 mins after entering your pin the only thing I need to do when checking out is turn it on. No unlocking etc is needed. Because I can enter the pin etc while standing in line it makes it MUCH faster than using my card.

It is supported on T-Mobile's Galaxy Note 2 as of the October 26th version. It used to proudly state "Now supports Galaxy Note 2!" on the "What's New" section in the Play Store but after my complaints to ISIS it looks like they deleted that text.
It is still listed as supported in the app description on the Play Store. Supported devices for T-Mobile are Galaxy S Relay 4G, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy Note 2.
Like I said, I activated the wallet and bought stuff from a store with it but it's pretty worthless since I can't reload the cash card, you should hold off until they fix it.

Just to update the thread, ISIS finally works for me after dealing with their awful support for 2+ weeks (Mostly me repeating myself and them telling me the problem was resolved when it wasn't) but was finally contacted again this morning and it seems to actually work now.
Hope they get their issues resolved before the national launch. In the meantime, I'm going to finally try out the service. Just waiting on my reloadable upgrade to process now.

lol.... Isis is available on the Note 2 today.
The problem is that Isis IS ONLY available in Salt Lake City and Austin. This is why I will be sending a letter to the President of AT&T. The fact that they lock us out of Google Wallet to be stuck waiting on Isis availability (and who the hell knows when that will be).
On a unrelated subject, another thing I will be writing about is the throttling of speeds while on the phone, making all data while on a call almost useless.
Ok. LOL. I should of said they are going to release it nationally.

That is quite a nice thought, but I will believe it when I see it. The launch of Isis has been pushed back numerous times.
Either way, thanks for the heads up.
I would have preferred ATT not block Google Wallet and attempt to force me to use their system ISIS. ATT gets enough of my money and using ISIS will only let them continue to stick it to free choice in the future. I have not used Google Wallet on my Nexus 7, but would like to option to choose which NFC system I use- with my money. Needless to say, ISIS will not be on my phones.

Nice. You would be surprised how many places actually take ISIS. Any place that will take Google Wallet, Paywave, ExpressPay or any other contactless payment will take ISIS. You dont have to be in Austin or SLC to get it to work.

What's the point anyways. Why are people freaking out about it? Bearly any retail places accept it at all. It would be completely different if a ton of places took it. Even in Austin, their aren't very many places that take it.
