Screen Unlock Issue (Using PIN vs. Slide) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So far I am loving my new GNEX.. One issue I am seeing though is how the phone handles unlocking when you use stuff such as pin lock, etc. On my razr I was able to set a pin lock, however if I turned off the screen and then back on within a few minutes I could just do the slide to unlock w/o having to type in the PIN. However on the GNEX that isn't the case. The moment I turn off the screen and turn it back on it automatically asks for the PIN. Is there a way around this and have it handle like the razr? I have to have a PIN for my work on my phone, but don't want to have to enter it in every time I turn off then on my screen within a few minutes.

If you let the screen turn off in its own time you won't need to enter the pin until the lock after xx mins time has passed.

Yes, but like most of us, I throw my gnex in my pocket, etc and don't want it pushing buttons, etc. The option I am describing works great on the razr, but not the gnex.. is it a samsung thing or a 4.0 thing.

I think there is an option around that you can set how long for screen to auto turn off and when to reengae the lock, let me see if i can find it on my atrix......I remember seeing it on my old SGS captivate
Edit: not on my Atrix; I think samsung added that option in through TW on my old captivate

Bypass Activation Screen

Does anyone know how to bypass the activation screen on the HTC Droid Incredible 2???
if you try to activate, hit back make it fail. repeat for at least 3 times and it should let you skip activation.
if that doesn't work you could use cdma workshop
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
That didnt work.
Tried everything to bypass. No other ideas?
Something I found in a Google search:
When you get the screen to tap on the Android to start the process, tap around the edges of the screen, starting top left, then top right, then bottom right, then bottom left. Puts you into a different screen that ultimately allows you to work your way out of it.
I don't know if this works with the DINC2, but it did work for my D2G, and the link I found it at was for a completely different phone.
That didnt work either. I am not to sure why it is different from Motorola and HTC. It is still an Android Os. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO
Does it dump you into a different screen at all?
I cant get past the dial *228 to activate screen
You want the screen just before that. The very first screen. I'm getting ready to test on mine..
the first screen is the lock screen then it goes to the select language screen. then it tries to call *228 and it cannot activate because i am out of the country.
I see now. VZW activated mine when I was in store, so I didn't see this portion. It's different from my D2G. Looking to see if I can figure a way around it real quick.
If you could I would appreciate it alot. I have been racking my brain for days.
Does the phone try to do the activation phone call at all? I tried it three times, and ended the call all three times, and it allowed me to bypass activation. I can try to do a video if you'd like.
It does try. But for some reason it will not bypass. If your phone has been activated before then it works fine. But since i havent had it activated I cant bypass it.
Learn something new every day. Odd that it works like that. Sorry for getting your hopes up. Those are the only things I can think of.
The only way for anyone to see what I am talking about is to do a master reset on the phone. If anyone does it and it works please post a video so I can see what I may be doing wrong. Thanks to all that are trying to assist.
Master reset, as in factory reset? If it's different, and you can point me to how, I'll go ahead and do it.
The easiest way to do it is to hold the power button and hit restart. Once the unit is off hold the volume down key and a white screen appears. Factory reset is the 3rd option I believe so just use the volume key down and hit the power button. It takes a few minutes to reset.
Just sent you a PM.
Have to watch it later. Bad reception at work

Lock screen gone

Usually after pressing the power button the pink lock screen from tmobile would show up. But today after pressing the button to unlock the phone theres no lock screen, it just goes straight to the homescreeen. I tried putting a password and it still doesnt bring up the lock screen. Has this happened to anyone else?

This is still an issue after a restart?
that would have been normal on CM7 if you disabled lock screen
but on TW... it's rather unusual, specially when we still have no root
can you try installing super user meanwhile you are at it?

Also, theres another problem. When I hold the power button the phone shuts off automatically instead of the menu asking you want to turn of the phone.

This definitely sounds like a faulty phone, I would return it. These options are normally present in a CM7 build like allgamer said.
I don't think that it is a faulty phone. Watch the review by Mobile Syrup and the lock screen on their phone is gone to.
mine is doing the same no lock screen and phone shuts off as soon as I hold the power button
Edit: just tried setting a lock screen with pin and nothing still hmmm

If and when I get this phone you'll have about 9 lockscreens to choose from and a variety of power options (as well as a ton of other mods and hacks).
Just click on a few of the links in my sig.
Yes I can't wait

how do you do a factory reset?
What will a factory reset erase? Will i have to root again?
This is my problem, I have been using my sim card for like 6 years now and today it just stopped working in my phone..
So I took it out and put it back in , still doesnt work, and right after that happend I realized that my lock screen had ceased functioning which i read is a known issue.
So i lost all my contacts, i will go have to get a new sim tomorrow, still don't know if i should trade the phone is for a new one.
this problem had something to do with the *#0*# command, and and testing the camera while in that menu. i just reflashed the deodexed rom and it was fine.
I had this problem too. I had to do a factory reset to fix the problem.
Here's another thread discussing a potential cause of the issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18702063&postcount=12
There are programs out there to use until then. Right now I'm using Quick Boot and it seems to do the trick just fine.

I'm rooted and used Titanium Backup, and a few other "safe" apps. Then suddenly my screen lock dissapeared. Battery pulls would not restore it and neither would any settings fiddling. When I held the power button down two seconds, it would shut the phone off instead of the usual popup that gives you the option to power down.
The only way I was able to restore it was reset the phone to factory settings. Then I restored via a CW backup (wow CW is awesome)
Anyway is this a common thing? I can't imagine this happening to an iPhone. What could cause this--do I have to erase my phone next time this happens? What a PITA!!!
Did you try the numeric combo which gets you into the phone diagnostics? If so we discovered that the megacam test hoses the lockscreen for some reason.

Phone not locked sometimes??? Anyone else

I have had it happen a few times.
One i remember that i put the phone to charge overnight and i plug it in and went to take a shower. I didn't pressed the power button just left it to time out. The next morning i hit home and swipe to put my pin and unlock but it just took me to the home screen without having to input a pin.
I have had it happen a few other times that i put it out of my pocket and i try to get on the phone and it just go to the home screen it didn't ask me for my pin.
I hope you guys understand what i mean, and maybe someone has experience the same thing.
Thank you.

Happens to me once in a while as well...I simply chalked it up to it's an imperfect world we live in.
Just wanted to make sure it was just not me. I will be contacting att and samsung, since I believe this to be a security flaw.

Do you have Smart Stay enabled? That might pick up a false trigger and keep the screen on.
I do not.

Phone is completely stock, both software and hardware.
ATT sugested a master reset. I have yet to do it.
The issue has not come back for at least a week now. Now that i think about it, i think after the 4.1.2 update i have not notice it.
Do you happen to have an app installed that will let you view what state the cpu is in? Like cpu spy. (ex: deep sleep)
Maybe the phone isn't going to sleep.. Something could be keeping it awake, making the android system think that the phone is still in use.
Do you have the option checked for screen lock delay? -- the one that keeps the phone from locking within a certain amount of time after the screen has turned off.
I see you said it hasn't happened for a while.. but if it does happen again, maybe you can try to see if you have a wake clock by viewing the cpu state.
Just a thought

Pixel not waking up from sleep

Anyone else having issues with the Pixel not waking up from sleep. This happens to me seemingly randomly, at least I have not been able to pinpoint what is causing it. I have to use the power button and volume rocker to hard reboot it. This is my second unit that has done this, and Google just wants to replace it again.
I made a quick video of it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97iho4sHAlc
I have exactly the same problem ...
to boot, I press 10 seconds repeatedly on the power button.
I already had the problem of keyboard update ...
I thought this was solved but sadly it's still around. Suffered from it a few days ago after doing a factory reset about a week ago.

Same here, I finally received the Feb update on my replacement Pixel and thought it was solved... nope.
I bought the Pixel for quick work trips so I did not have to bring my laptop. I take allot of flights in the morning and return that afternoon/evening. The Pixel was going to be used for Presentations, and notes. It is super frustrating when I have the tablet all setup to present and I have to mess with it to get it to turn back on. This thing has way to many problems for a premium tab, and seems like Google has not dedicated the appropriate resources to supporting it (support/dev).
Ah the old "Sleep of Death" it seems to have plagued (mostly) tablets for years. I've had it happen on my Asus Transformer T101 years ago and it also happened on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5". I haven't had it happen yet in the months I've owned the Pixel, but I have had some odd issues where I press the power button to turn it on and it shows the unlocked boot warning for literally a second and then turns off/reboots, when it does that I have to hold the power button for like 10 seconds to force a reboot and then it boots up fine.

I use the pattern to unlock my device. For years on my Asus TF201 (which had occasional severe performance problems), I would occasionally turn it on, get nothing for several seconds, and then get the pattern unlock screen for a fraction of a second, and then it would sleep. Sometimes if I drew the pattern really fast it would unlock it. Othertimes, I think I just rebooted it.
With the Google Pixel C, I (perhaps foolishly) continued the pattern unlock approach. It usually works fine. But occasionally, I will get the pattern unlock screen soon enough, enter the pattern, and it will do nothing for several seconds (just frozen on the pattern screen with my drawn pattern) and then go to sleep. If I try this repeatedly, sometimes once it will actually let me in. Otherwise I reboot and try again.

I do not use the pattern lock, I do secure it with a passcode though. My issue does not seem to be related to the security though as it does it at random times and never display the login prompt.
still having both random reboots and screen blackouts. This is a shame google will not acknowledge the problem and say they're fixing it. It only makes me believe that they know about it yet CANT fix it. Like its a hardware issue more than a software one. At least if they would say "we are aware of the issue and working on a fix" or "we were working on a fix but now working just a big OS update instead" Id feel like I wasnt ripped off by them. I mean I have EVERY nexus device box still displayed in my hobby room at my house. Im a huge fan but this is really bad.
Joined beta N program, hopefully this issue is resolved on the Pixel C.

Phone is starting....

I have my phone connected to my watch and utilizing smart lock so I dont need to do pattern or fingerprint unlock. However every morning I need to do pattern unlock and phone will say "Phone is initializing" as if I restarted the phone. Is this normal now on these phones?

Have you set up scheduled reboots in device care by chance? Mine did that this morning but I have it set to restart overnight on Friday mornings.

Thanks. Weird it was set to reboot on Fridays. I never set that. Wonder if that's a default. And I swear yesterday morning I also had do pattern unlock. Maybe I'm trippin. Anyways, I will keep an eye out tomorrow. And I have changed it to reboot on Sundays.
I know I use to use this with devices and if you didn't use the phone for X amount of hours the phone would lock and require a pin/fingerprint, but that was back when I had the pixel, I stopped using it seemed to make me have to put my pin every time I wanted to use google pay instead of just unlocking my phone and paying.
I get that message when rebooting too. I came from a Pixel 3 and it didn't have that when restarting. Not sure if this is a Samsung thing but it makes startup a bit slow comparatively

it's seemingly to do with Knox and the encryption, seems it is to stop people connecting to the locked phone and extracting data in start up.
If you're referring to the message that says phone is starting after you unlock it you can get rid of that by turning this off.
