Well, I've sort of had this issue on EK02 as well. Maybe its not the modem, maybe it's actually the towers. The issues I experienced with EK02 were messages being failed to be sent and contacts showing as "No Caller ID" when receiving a call. EL13 solved that "No Caller ID" bug for me, however, it made my network crazy at times. My phone's cell network constantly changes to roaming, and messages are being failed to be sent. However, although my phone says that the message didn't send, people still received them, so I never bothered hitting resend. I just want to know if others are experiencing similar problems, or it's really just an issue on Sprint's side.
I've been having similar issues previously with ek02 and now el13. Poor 3g speeds where I had no problem before, erratic signal bars and roaming in areas where it shouldn't be. I feel like eg31 was the most stable one Ive had so far. Contemplating flashing back but then I feel like I'm not compatible with the most current ROM builds.

I didn't even mention the speeds since I thought it was common knowledge. It was good when the EVO 4G launched a year ago, at least in NJ. And same here for me, I want to be on the latest version, especially this one where Carrier IQ is removed by default. I'm running all stock btw, but just added root when it came out for EL13.

The bugs I've noticed on EL13 are: when calling someone, and they answer, or them calling you and you answer, it'll turn on speakerphone automatically. Also, Vlingo will activate and keep saying "how can I help you?" repeatedly while composing a text message until you force stop the app. A reboot fixes it for a while, but it will come back eventually.

If you have headphones in and are at the dialer, and you push the headphones in the jack (even though they are already fully in, you push anyway), it starts calling the last person in your call log. Also calls don't output to headphones anymore. I would like for them to be outputed through my car speakers via AUX but the sound will not go through, until I remove the AUX cable...

I just had something else happen, the lock screen is upside down. Unlocked the phone, and everything was upside down until I rotated it, and then rotated back.
I'm messing around with the EL13 ROM (stock - rooted) and had a couple of phone going to roam moments.
I've since updated profile and PRL, rebooted, and it seems to have gone back to normal, hopefully....Give this a try.

I get frequent "loss of data", occasionally even on wifi. The 3g/1x is still there but the browser will hang then go to a about:blank page and the market will often say no data connection [retry], when the signal is low. I'll be going back to EG31 soon and see if is actually this radio version.
Wow, bummer for the OP and the other posters. I'm not experiencing any of these issues. My setup has never been smoother for me on any Android phone, running any ROM since 2009. If we could get Samsung to improve the GPS, this phone would be 100 out of 100!
I would recommend flashing the EG30 completely stock (non-rooted) tar to go back completely stock and start fresh. While you are running stock, test things out and make sure it all works then root from there with auto root.
I'm actually thinking of going back to EG31 modem aswell. I was never a victim of LOS, so I'll try it out tomorrow.

EL13 ROMs are great, the radio is a hit or miss I guess. No LOS's, just weird data black outs for me.

Flashed just the EG31 modem, and so far so good. Bars are strong reprovisioned right after flash btw. Everything else, ROM/kernel, is EL13

Everything is prefect on the EG31 modem on EL13 ROM so far . However I would like to know if anyone can flash the EG31 kernel on EL13 without borking the wifi

Hi, I'm having this odd issue. I've heard of everyone complain about slow data 3g speeds and mine seem to be normal, im getting around 1 mbps, however there is a delay in getting data transferred every since I switched in EB13. For example, when I go use the browser, I have my homepage set as Google and it'll take around 10 seconds for it to start transferring the data and then display Google. It also does this on apps, i'll have to wait for the transfer to start. I've tried reset via stock recovery, updating profile and prl, going in ##3283 and changing some things.
Any ideas? Is the modem just that bad?
anyone? it'd be gladly appreciated
maybe its bad DNS? Is there anyway to change that for the 3g on the Epic?
Having the same problem, hope all fix is on the way.

where are you located in in case it's a network issue?
same problem.
I'm having the same issue. In Knoxville, TN right now and I get 5-6 bars on 3g. Full signal in the house on a wireless G network. It happens on both.
I'm on EB13 with Supernova rom and Genocide oc/uv kernel. So there's some customization there. I can't remember, but I did flash a bunch of eb13 roms/kernels and beieve I got the same effect for all of them.
The only thing I've found is this "data lag" on occurs when the CPU is at max in set cpu. I cannot for the life of me figure out what is causing the cpu to run at BOTH the highest frequency (1Mhz or 1.2Mhz, whichever I hav set) AND 100% cpu load as depicted in various apps. I've killed everything and it still stays at full cpu load, and that's when the browser, emails, messenger, anything that sends/receives data goes wonky.
I may have found a brief workaround. When sending a message, the message send icon may hang for 30 seconds to 1 minute for me when this happens. If I hit home and go back into the messenger app a few times, it seems to speed up the process. I'm not sure but perhaps it's forcing the cpu to focus on sending that message for just long enough to send it.

Update: Odined back to DK28 Modem and flashed ViperROM Trinity (DK28) to see if that fixes the data transfer issues.

I'm a little confused towards the end? You updated via samsungs website? I did too.
What did Sprint do to "Fix" your phone?
May be a dumb question, but have you all tried updating the PRL in settings since updating?
An update on my situation:
I'm running same as before, but since ViperROM is compatible with both the DK28 and EB13 modems, I left everything identical other than the DK28 modem. I no longer have any data lag whatsoever, and my CPU is running fine. No more max frequency clock and max cpu load.

Oh my god, i am so happy someone brought up this issue. let me tell you my story:
i had my epic for 28 days. Ive been noticing the data "hangs" all the time. things like kik messenger time out, market says loading forever and times out, all kinds of issues, 20% of the time, the other 80% the data is snappy and works fine.... Well on the 28th day, i was pissed. i unrooted my phone, reflashed it with stock eb13, brought it to the sprint store and told them i want a new phone because this one is defective, i told them i had it on 2.1 and now on 2.2 i got a brand new epic 2 days ago, and im noticing the same thing, it doesnt seem as bad but what the F*** is going on with the data? I never updated this one to the eb13 because i dont like being rom-less. and wanted to wait for the new bonsai rom eb13 build. I am currently running bonsai 2.0.1 with the OC kernal and gingerbread theme on dk28, only other thing i got on is no battery complete sounds. i even deleted things like screebl and juice defender thinking maybe it was that. i dont know what the problem is...
Okay this is weird. I just noticed that there is no lag in data transfer when using the xda app and when zooming into a map on Google naps you've never opened before. Its like certain things have priority?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I've noticed that ever snce going o dk28 for the first time.
I'm used to it so it doesn't annoy me as much any more, but it sucks tapping something and seeing the reaction 10 seconds later.......
I blame it on the sprint ping.
This also happens on wifi sometimes, but I blame that on the router and internet over here...can't wait till I'm home in nyc so I can really test out eb13 in 3g and 4g

It was happening on wifi, yes, or it wouln't have been THAT big of an issue for me, hahah. And it only happened when cpu load was at 100%. If anyone wants to see if this does parallel the "data hangs," I believe there's a free app on the market called process manager that will show you cpu load. Try it out and let us know. If this is the case, it really would be an issue of system process priority like mentioned by Samsuck.
Can you provide exact name of the app? Is it Process Manager lite? Let me try and I'll let you know what happens.
Edit: okay, i don't think that app was it.
I have watchdog. lol it says 20 percent CPU usage

common things that could mess with txt msgs are airave, setting radio to cdma only and sprint towers acting goofy.
try checking ##3282# and see what evdo is set at. should be auto.
The same exact thing happened to me too! I thought i was the only one but guess not. I searched for answers here on line to figure out what the problem was and i never fixed it. I ended up having to unroot and take my phone into sprint and i got a refurbished Evo 4g for free.

When I had the problem i chanhed roms like 7or 8 times and it kept happening on all of them, it wasn't an application causing it either because right when my phone booted up after flashing a rom, a would do a test call or text and my phone wouldn't ring. As soon as i placed my first call i would recieve the missed message.

It's usually because there's a problem in the area or the prl.

I had called Sprint several times and had them do everything on their end to fix it. They updated prl, profile, (ive also done this myself several times as well), they refreshed the signal on their end, they did about everything they could and i did everything i could do but nothing fuxed it. You can use Ghostly Sms from the market to catch the some of the missed messages, it didnt catch them all for me and it wont help withissing calls. Sprint also said it gad nothing to do with the area or towers and also my fiances phone is working just fine anyways.

Can someone please post a review of how their GPS has been working on the FC20 and later versions of ICS build leaks? Also, does the NETWORK LOCATION actually update frequently?
QBKing77 said it was locking instantly, but wasn't really using it all that much it didn't sound like.
Anyone give a more indepth account of how GPS is behaving? Is it vastly improved over EL29? Good jesus I hope so, EL29 GPS is awful.
This wasn't specifically discussed in the 320+ pages of the FC24 post thread, sorry for starting a new post.
EDIT: Sorry for the mistitle of RC instead of FC20+. Phone typo. Got it right in the post though
RC20+? Where can I download this mighty rom sir?
Maybe he meant FC20+ rom.
I too would like to know this answer. Especially regarding network location updates. And yes, I could just flash it myself and try it out, but the multitude of bricks has scared me off...
Works freaking awesome. Locks fast and works like it should. Almost one hundred times better than EL29. You can flash the modem for FC22 and still keep your EL29 rom and kernel if you would like.
I am on FC18 and I have no complaints. It works perfectly for me.

I agree with the comment above. The GPS on FC18 and FC22 has been awesome. Locks and disconnects good as well when you are not using it and reconnects perfectly just in case you are driving through a tunnel or something no more having to reset your phone to reconnect to gps.
That's great to hear. The lock, loss and relock is the death sentence on EL29.
I'm very excited to see this is finally fixed. I might flash this in a couple days. This really is the last thing holding this phone from perfection.

You can do that by simply clearing the launcher defaults or by using the Sprint id and switching between my id and Samsung id. I use the Sprint id its faster to me lol. And the good thing is on ics they don't have the stupid sprint id built into the dock!

Yes, I'm aware of the SprintID "clean". GGB launcher is not as nice as TW launcher, IMO. However, I like the look of the ICS launcher (which is more TW than GGB). The 5 docked icons (4 customizable) is nice. I also prefer the ICS method of making folders over the TW method.
My GPS started working with FC22. It did not work for me with any of the previous builds
i still have calkulins lastest gingerbread rom with FC22 modem and i thinks its been pretty darn good for me....locks inside are horrible though in my house, but once i step outside..i'd say around 20-30sec locks....sometimes earlier,
before i installed the ICS modems, i used EL29 modem and it workd ok, i was sorta sceptical before isntalling the FC modems, cause it took forever to get my GPS to lock on properly so i had this crazy idea...find a CELL PHONE TOWER..lol
there was this cell phone tower build in town around 20mins away where im at,
so i drove right by it, i was like 10 feet away from the tower and turn my GPS on...locked in secs...therefore after that..been working GREAT...lol even after i install all the new modems, just dont clear cache..
just my experience...
My GPS couldn't connect at all in any ICS ROM (I had tried several FB/FC builds). Then i finally did the "Flash to EL29, get GPS lock, flash to ICS ROM", and that fixed it. But I didn't use Nandroid at all.
I think that my Titanium Pro restore was overwriting something that was causing the GPS to break. This last time I did more of a selective restore of system data and it's still working.
I've been one of those horrid Epic GPS people for the longest time. I couldn't get locks after awhile no matter where I was, and what combo of gps.txt files that I used without a fresh reboot. And now the last few ICS iterations have been a night and day difference. I can get a lock, close it down, and a few hours later get a lock if needed in under a minute, sometimes in 10 seconds. The network location works great on the apps and pages that use it. Now granted the gps isn't as strong as my former HTC phones which would lock under water if needed (kidding, but almost true) it works much better then it ever has.... Although I hope they up the signal strength of the G3.
you should never use a restore from gb on ics... the programs are completely different

I want to retrack my statement above about the FC22 modem. I recently did a system wipe on my phone and consequently my GPS doesn't get a lock with FC22 inside of my house. The two best modems are FC18 and EL29, both of these modems consistently retain their GPS settings and get a lock from inside of my house rather quickly.

Hey Everyone! So I'm having this problem where my phone will NOT ring or show that someone is even calling. The only way I found out that someone called me is when they text me asking why I didn't answer them. Well, my simple answer (that people are starting to not believe) is that my phone didn't even show that someone was calling... This wasn't so much an issue before because they could always text me if they needed to get a hold of me. But now after to applying to many places for a job, I kinda need it to ring. I also have another issue and that is that texts will not receive either. The only way I can get them is through Google Voice. This wasn't such a big deal to me but I would like to know if that can be fixed too. I have never had this issue until after I tried CM9. Since then I have tried many other ROMs to see if i still had this issue. I did.
The other ROMs I tried are:
MIUI v4
AOKP
Clean GB
Marcusant v3
MIUI Gingerbread
CM7
Legendary
What my current setup is:
ROM: AOKP
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: S700.0.5S.EI22
Kernel Version: [email protected] #6
Build Number: IML74K
Mod Version: aokp_epicmtd_build-28

I did this and (sorry for taking so long to get back to you but i wanted to make sure that it was happening often and not just once in a while) it worked for the phone ringing but the messaging, although im receiving them, they come late. sometimes VERY late like a whole day later. This is not cool and would really like to find a solution because i dont want to have to be stuck on stock :'( Oh yeah btw the ROM i flashed this time was AOKP. Thank you for the help!!
I believe late texts are a symptom of carrier network issues. It should clear up when the maintenance is finished.

I am having the same issue with the phone calls either coming in late or not at all. I test this by calling my number from a land line. It takes 4 - 5 rings before the phone will start ringing, if it rings at all. Most of the time, Google Voice answers for voicemail.
I remember back in the days when I had my Windows phone, there was something that we could do to have the phone poll the towers more often to make the phone ring faster. I know that this faster response to phone calls came at the expense of more battery usage. I wonder if some of the battery saving tweaks done by the ROM developers has had a negative effect on the phone calls coming in.
I have tried updating my PRL and whatever through EL30, then reflashing with out restoring any data. Still having the issue.
Thanks.
this same thing is happening to me and everyone else in my neighborhood that has sprint. Its one specific tower that's causing the issues. I know this because once I connect to a different tower the issue goes away. I contacted sprint about it and they said they would fix it when they do the network vision upgrades, which could be a ways away.

I kinda thought it was a problem with the network and so i called them and last time they sent me a airave and it didnt solve the problem. I still think its a problem with sprint overall and am planning on calling them.
I have the same exact problem. I have even had the phone replaced and it still does it. I only know when it happens because google voice logs the missed call. I have had it happen with a completely stock phone as well as rooted.
It is very frustrating because like you said, people don't believe you when you say that your phone did not ring.
They are actually going to switch my phone again. I know this is not going to fix the problem, but I will play the game!
I apologize in advance if this is a thread somewhere I couldn't find it.
I was recently using CM9 alpha3 on my E4GT, and last night suddenly I wasn't able to make calls. It says "we're sorry but we can't complete your call right now" or it just instantly hangs up. I thought it may have been an issue with the rom or modem, so I went back to Calkulin's GB EL29 ROM. Same issue, even after resetting PRL and profile multiple times with phone restarts. I can send and receive texts, and I can receive calls, but I can't make calls. Another thing to note is I use an Airrave in this house, I tried resetting that as well, and dialing *99 which is supposed to also refresh or reset it. None of these tactics have worked and I was wondering what else I could try. Thanks again in advance!

Did you get the phone direct from SPRINT. or via ebay or at a pub?
Bills paid?
are you the only registered owner of the handset?
people will sell you a phone, then after a little bit of time passes. they register the phone as LOST/STOLEN/DAMAGED the network Blacklists it and provides the fraudster with a shiny new handset.
you end up out of pocket without a working phone.
its an increasingly popular fraud technique I'm afraid.
Silly question but it needs to be asked, are you sure it wasn't something with the number you were calling? Did you try calling several number?
Airrave services are having issues. Power it off for a day.

I did actually use that right before I flashed Calk's E4GT rom and I had no luck with it either Probably should've mentioned that.

Don't reflash Calkulin's ROM until you've been able to recover your voice calling services. Both CM9 and Calkulin's ROM are custom, so maybe that's where the problem is coming from. You need to get back as close to stock as possible then see if the problem persists.
Go back to EL29 (plain stock or stock-rooted), see if everything is working then you'll know if maybe it's something in the flashing process that is knocking out the voice calling.
I'm also having the exact same issue with my airave. If I unplug it I'm able to make calls without a problem. So as someone else posted I believe the airaves are having issues today. But I am on the stock FD26 ICS if anyone else is having the problem and thinks it has anything to do with the leak.

Yeah I unplugged the airave and I walked far outside to get a bar and was able to make a call. Didn't think it was the culprit because other family members can make calls with it, they have different phones though.
Thanks for the help guys
Having the same issue as well today. Tried powering down, chatted w sprint, still having issues. Don't think it has to do with build or rom as I have been on just about everything since I had mine.

Exact same issue here too. Started yesterday morning. Have not had a chance to test it out today. Sister's iPhone works fine with the airave. Seems only my phone is affected for some reason. Spirit said they would get back to me in 72 hours. Hope the issue is resolved soon. Using Grooveip to make calls in the meantime.

Four people in the house on my plan and no-one has mentioned any issues with the airave other than the spamming txt issue sometimes.
Update: mine just started working again. Last night I reset the box by pressing the reset button for 15 seconds, still having issues after it reset through this morning. Sometime in the last hour it has become fully functional again. Weird.
