I got mine from Virgin Mobile to use with my Fido SIM. After following the steps in this post, I flashed my GN to yakju. However, the Radio icon on the top bar shows a R instead of H. This means it thinks I am not in the original network. Anyway to tweak it?
BTW, I got 4.0.2 notification right after hooked up with WIFI.
Download the latest version of the radio that was sent to the Virgin Mobile phones here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20313790&postcount=230
Then reflash it with fastboot:

This seems to be a fido specific bug, ive seen it happen with my friend's fido sim on multiple android phones over the years. Some have suggested that an updated sim will fix it, however he hasn't tried one yet.
I'm running icl53f with the xxkk6 radio on rogers with no issues.

Do you have any other issues?

I was using for the afternoon and night. The reception seems not as good as yakjuux. Maybe this is just my feeling. Strange thing is the 4.0.2 update notification disappeared. I planned to download it tonight but couldn't find it anymore.

I was using HTC Desire HD from telus, unlocked. There was no R on it.
I flashed mine a couple days ago. I was previously on yakjuux (ITL41D) and went directly to stock yakju (ICL53F).
Keep in mind that the stock images from Google (version 4.0.2, build ICL53F) come with XXKK6 as the default baseband/radio. This is different from the one that comes preloaded on devices from Virgin Mobile and Bell Canada.
Flashing XXKK6 caused the same problem for me as the first poster (I'm on Fido, and the network icon kept showing up as "R: roaming" instead of the usual 3G or H: HSPA". It also took forever to find the Fido network in the first place.
Now, when I first bought the GN, it came with UGKK7 on it. If you bought your device before any OTA update (meaning, you were on build ITL41D), that's probably the radio you had.
However, this was recently updated to UGKL1, when you went from ITL41D to ITL41F (OTA via Bell or Virgin). I find this specific radio works best on Fido. Technically, it is also recommended to use a UG- baseband in Canada vs. XX, since UG is the code to indicate that it's optimized for North America.
So I flashed UGKL1 and got perfect reception since (Fido).
By the way, for those who want to try out the UGKL1 baseband:

The R is gone. It's back to 3G or HSPA. I noticed most of the time it's 3G (when the phone is on sleep with wifi turned off). As soon as the screen is back on, the icon changes to HSPA. Maybe it's to save battery.
Also, I didn't know this menu existed before, but your network/radio settings can be viewed this way:
- go to Phone
- *#*#4636#*#*
- then tap 'Phone information'
In this menu, you can see your actual signal strength, whether GSM and GPRS are on, as well as the network type the device is currently getting (UMTS is 3G, or HSPA). You can reset your radio too.
There's a setting thay may get you better network behaviour and battery:
Set preferred network type:
By default, the GN is set on 'GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)' - which means it scans for both. However, I recommend you tweak it.
- Fido and Rogers operate on GSM/HSPA only. So if you bought the device from Virgin/Bell, but are using a SIM card on Rogers or Fido, it's better to change the setting to 'GSM auto (PRL)'. There's no use to scan CDMA anyway.
- Virgin and Bell are CDMA/HSPA. For those networks, leave the preferred network type as 'GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)'.
- Same with Telus (they are CDMA/HSPA).
I think this is the reason why the 'R' problem has only affected Fido and Rogers users so far.
Thanks for the tip.
I am going to reflash the radio.
took me 2 hours to get it done for the first time!!! Looked around almost all threads about fastboot thingy.
Just to post here some important steps for reflash radio ONLY. I will post complete steps after sleeping.
You have to put your GN into USB Debugging mode. If you don't do this, it is very hard to exit fastboot mode.
You will need PDANet for Andoird.
Find fastboot-windows.exe
Find the radio file for North American GNs
unlock the bootloader before flash radio
lock the bootloader after flash radio
use reboot in fastboot instead of taking battery out.

Just to try it out I started using the xxkk6 radio on Bell in Toronto. Seems fine.
Battery is good, reception is good. No noticeable differences between this and UGKL1

hmmm....mines working great. I never put it in usb mode and never re-locked the phone after. I don't think its and issue
Without usb debugging enabled, pdanet can't finish installing.
Now, i am facing a serious problem, i cant get data connection from Fido. I have set fido APN as before. But after flash radio, the radio icon is always grey when wifi is off.
When you go to settings - about phone what does your baseband say? You might need to reflash your radio. Try the xxkk6 again and if that doesn't work for you the Canadian radio ugkl1 is floating around the forums so you can reflash that and it should work.

I flashed the radio on the second post last night. Then got the issue.
I got everything work finally. fastboot google 4.0.2 image and then ugkl1 radio.
Why can't Google release 1 radio that can work for all GSM carriers, like iOS.
I'm on bell and the xxkk6 works fine for me. So I'm not sure why it didn't work at all for you. I like that there is a NA specific radio tho because not all networks use the same features so I think the NA radio turns on some optimization.

Hi everyone,
I'm reasonably certain that this isn't a redundant thread -- at least, none of the discussions I've read have helped me fix my problem. Anyway, here goes:
I have a new i9250T that I purchased through Amazon. When I got it, I popped in the SIM card from my Nexus One (both SIM and phone acquired in January 2010). Everything worked fine, EXCEPT that I could only connect to T-Mobile's 2G network (Network Type = Edge:2). After trying everything I could think of, I called T-Mobile, and the tech told me that my 2-year-old SIM card was 2G only and that I should update it. So I went to a T-Mobile store and got a new SIM. Alas, it doesn't seem to have worked.
I would REALLY appreciate any suggestions. Some additional info:
-- I'm in Philadelphia, in a very good coverage area.
-- I flashed yakju, 4.0.2, and UGLC1 radio before getting the new SIM.
Again, any thoughts will be appreciated. I've seen enough posts on various boards from people successfully using this phone on T-Mobile to not give up, but I'm out of ideas.

Weirdest crap... aren't the GNEX suppose to work with either GSM Carriers 3G? From what I read lol ...
- Google Galaxy Nexus
I get 3G/H with my Nexus. Running Android Revolution HD 3.0 w/ franco's kernel. Not sure if I got it before then running stock, though.
It should definitely work no question with little issue. Just pop in your sim and good to go. Maybe its some random network issue in your area that coincidentally started?
Same here, got it on Amazon. it's a GT-I9250T which means it's for the Australian market (I9250 International, I9250M Canada, I9250T Australia). I'm just stuck on EDGE, but works fine on AT&T - I tried it with my gf's sim card.
The problem is with the frequencies. T-mobile uses 1700 and 2100 (both! for upload and download), AT&T uses 1900Hz. The phone is supposed to be a pentaband phone that's able to work on all on the freqs besides others (850, 900). So my guess after a few days research is that it's limited in the software. Still researching the solution...
Let's keep each other posted on this, i'm eager to get my 4G back !!!
NEW DEVELOPMENT!!!
Information from another post: flashing UGLC1 radio helps. Good luck all
I had the same issues with no 3g speeds on any radios except a random docomo radio until today.
Based on a few posts in the baseband thread i tried the settings in the hidden menu
Go into the phone dialer and type
*#*#4636#*#* -This should bring up a testing menu
Go into phone info, then pull up the settings menu
There should be a select radio band button
Try the USA band, if that doesn't work, try automatic.
This worked for me, I've since flashed 4 different radios that hadn't worked previously and now do at standard speeds vs edge only.
Well my buddy bought his also from amazon and had the same issue as the OP. But luckily we got it fixed. I believe what he did was only tinker with the APN settings. Under APN Type in your T Mobile apn make sure the correct profiles are there. One of them could be data but I'm not sure as I'm on SIMPLE Mobile and my buddy is on T Mobile, sorry. If you get it working and your MMS isn't working, then add mms to the profile as well. That should do it. He did get his phone with 4.0.1 and I updated it to 4.0.4 Android Revolution 3.0 just like me as well but it wasn't until we tinkered with his settings did it work. Oh and we also swapped for a new SIM. Let me know if this helped guys. I'll try getting his settings if I see him tomorrow.
Edit: his was also an Australian galaxy nexus. But he seems be having everything working now

So ait this is the Australian version? They use 850 and 2100 bands so is it possible the other bands are disabled on that version?
Problem solved!
I took chimaki1's advice and fiddled with the radio band setting. I had done this previously, but I had always selected "USA Band." This time, I selected "Automatic." Closed out of the Testing menu, and -- bingo! The wonderful 'H' appeared and I was now getting real speed -- 7.9mbps down, 2.8 up. Not as good as some of the insane speeds I've seen posted by GN owners on T-Mobile, but a lot better than 100kbps down I had been getting. Also, I didn't mess with the APN settings at all.
To recap the solution for others having the same issue:
From the phone dialer, enter *#*#4636#*#*
Tap "Phone information"
Tap the Settings icon at the bottom right
Tap "Select radio band"
Select "Automatic"
Close out of the Testing menu (you can just hit the Home key)
I can't remember whether I had to soft reset or not; I don't think I did.
I hope this works for others. Thanks very much to everyone who posted.

Is your galaxy running the stock software, or are you running something different. if so, what rom are you running
It's running the yakju image and OS version 4.0.2. I flashed both using the WugFresh tool. The phone came with yakjuxw (I think) and 4.0.1.

I'm having the same issue on the I9250T I just got. Stuck on edge. I played around with the hidden menu settings, still no luck. I'm using a TMo SIM card from my previous phone which had 4G so I doubt that its a time/patience issue. Any help will be appreciated.

Today I tried a friend's ATT SIM and it worked fine with H/3G speeds. popped the TMo SIM back in and I'm back to EDGE. Wondering if there is something that needs to be done to the phone settings or, or I was hopping some one could tell me what needs to be done.. thanks
Hi there,
I have a rooted Galaxy Nexus, that for some crazy reason won't connect to Wind Mobile's network here in Canada (IIRC, Wind uses the same frequences/bands as T-Mobile). When I first got the phone it did, but now no luck. Originally the phone had Android 4.0.1 (yakju-itl41f) with the UKGL1 baseband. When I got the 4.0.4 OTA that is when things started to go wrong.
I don't think I have a bad SIM card, as when I put the SIM in my Nexus One it works just fine.
I've spoke with Wind Mobile's technical support, and they weren't to useful. The suggested I take the device to their "maintenance centre" here in Edmonton, Alberta. However, when I called this "maintenance centre" there was no answer and I could not leave voice mail. Here are somethings I've tried:
Flashed the following radios:
UGKL1
UGLA4
UGLC1
XXLA2
Other things I have tried:
Turn airplane mode off then on
A hard reset: while the phone is on, pull the battery, pull the SIM, let the phone sit for 5 minutes.
Flashed the 4.0.1 Stock Image from Google (ITL41F).
Flashed the 4.0.4 Stock Image (IMM76D and IMM76I).
Installed CyanogenMod 9 and then set the minimum clock speed to 700Mhz
Erased the cache according to this post.
Disabled the "adaptive voltage scaling" (described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24355203&postcount=28) by doing echo 0 > /sys/kernel/debug/smartreflex/sr_core/autocomp
Currently the device is back to 4.0.1 and UGKL1 as I think I have to return the phone. I'm starting to suspect that the radio is broken.
Any suggestions/tips/ideas a guy could otherwise try?
Thanks in Advance.
What about the apn settings?

Hey All,
So, for some reason, I am unable to get LTE when i am flashed on the AOKP jellybean rom for the SGH-1747M (rogers)
I did everything that was stated in Task's Gerrit (Changed the connection for WCDMA to LTE/GSM auto), all that does is work for a while on H+, then disconnects.
I've changed my apn settings to the Rogers LTE settings, which just cuts off communication all together
Ive flashed Rogers Modems, still to no avail.
The thing that bothers me is that other sgh-1747M users claim to have been getting LTE on the AOKP jellybean rom.
My question is WHY AM I HAVING TROUBLE!!!??? I know the Rom was made for an At&T sgh1747, so people may say thats why its not working, but people with Canadian SG3's have been able to get LTE on the same ROM im having trouble getting it on.
If theres anything at all im missing, can someone please clarify exactly what im missing and what I should do to get it working.
I love the AOKP jellybean ROM, i keep going back to it, but the LTE not working just hurts my feelings (since I am paying for an LTE smartphone plan). PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!
PS: the first time I ever changed from WCDMA to LTE/GSM autom i got a 4G symbol for about 30 secs.....never seen it again! HELP!

change to LTE/GSM auto

Thats interesting. Maybe its because you are actually using at&t network. It works when I put it on LTE/GSM, but all I get is 3G and H+
Check your IMEI in about phone/status. If its showing 0, there's a thread for that.
If you're getting 4G icon and your mobile network status says LTE and are getting LTE speeds, then its cosmetic issue. I had that problem before.
What I did was I flashed Kyan's ROM 1.3 cause its based off of Rogers firmware. Once I verified I had LTE icon on Kyan ROM, then flashed the stock/rooted ROM after.

Interesting. I will try that method and see what happens. Thanks for the info; will post back with results soon
Ok, so after going through the whole process stated above, i WAS able to get a 4G symbol come every now and then. But before the connection actually finalizes and goes through (before it turns blue on the aokp rom), it disconnects and goes back to WCDMA preferred. I added the rogers LTE apn, and using that apn with the LTE/GSM auto selected allowed the 4G to come, but it keeps disconnecting. It even sometimes changes back to other apns on the list by itself
Anyone know if theres a way to lock the preferred network and apn settings?
enter apn settings, then REBOOT phone. After that, enter *#*#4636#*#* into phone dialer and go change to LTE/CMDA/GSM. that worked for me, I just needed to reboot my phone for the apn settings to work

Mine works until I reboot. Then it changes back to WCDMA. I'm on Telus.
LTE on canadian i747M (Rogers)
I had similar issue with LTE after flashing to AOKP rom. The fix provided by AOKP (after every reboot, type in *#*#4636#*#* and flipping the network type from WCDMA to LTE_only, then flip to LTE/GSM auto(PRL) ) works. LTE will show up as 4G. I have the 2012-09-30 AOKP build installed.
Yesterday all of a sudden I could not get LTE anymore. Not sure what happened as the only thing I did was to activate a new account on Google. Anyway the 4G/ flipping did not work anymore. Reflashed the rom several times, still the same issue, my phone will not get LTE/4G.
This morning tried the following and voila it worked, thought I will share this:
Flip the network type to LTE Only, there is no connection, REBOOT the phone.
1. After reboot, flip the network type to LTE Only again, this time, the connection worked - what a surprise/thrill.
2. Flipped the network type to LTE/GSM auto (PRL), connection was ok and 4G came on and stayed on. Did several reboots and repeated 1 and 2 and LTE/4G was ok.
Hope this helps.
I don't recommend you to use task aokp rom! You won't get LTE real speed and Dev won't help you since you are not an at&t user! He couldn't care less about the rest so try liquid jelly bean which is a lot faster and better or milestone 4 and aristodemo! They have better support although they are tw rom but worthy anyways

Task compiles that ROM based on AOKP source, but AOKP officially doesn't support att. Although I didn't have problems getting lte on his ROM the fact that you have to set it every time you reboot is why I am using cm10 for now otherwise it's a good ROM!
I'm having the same issues on my rogers branded s3. No matter what I do I can get lte to even appear. My apn auto rolls back to the provided apn and if I delete that I have no data at all. Hopefully this does have an answer because the Rom is amazing

Alright I think I have it figured out. I added the rogers APN related all others and the only change I made was I removed the info under APN type where it said internet+MMS and left it blank. Saved the APN rebooted and I have lte now. I even rebooted my phone and each time it boots up its showing 4g without having to play with any settings

I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and this only happens after a period of time where the LTE will just stop working but if you switch to CDMA it's working fine?
To go a step further I've wiped the phone and restored to stock. Once that's done LTE is working fine.
To go further again, I grabbed a different ROM and the exact samething happens, I'll be able to be on LTE for about a day and then the service stops and if I switch it to CDMA I'm good.
Just wondering if anyone else here has noticed that.
Cheers,
did you verify your APN settings?
i'm using a Bell version GN2 but on Fido and i can flash all day everyday and 4g has always worked.

The APN settings are always the same with Bell. They don't change.
HSPA+ will work but LTE will die after a little while. (This only occurs on other ROMS). If I stay on the stock rom there's no problem.

On a different note... I noted that if I have SAMBA Fileshare on I have strange things that happens DATA wise.... I'm still looking into it and dropping logcat and looking at different possibility.
At this point it's looking like something with the SMB Fileserver I have on the phone. (Will know later on)

The APN settings are always the same with Bell. They don't change.

im not saying the bell apn has changed but ive found that sometimes when flashing roms, the apn settings arent included in the rom and have to manually be entered.
This happened alot when using my galaxy s2 lte.

Hi all, ever since stock went to JB 4.1, I can not get phone to work on any Rom. Any ROM I flash, many and all radio flash and kernel flash. No matter what, I can not get phone to work on any Rom, except stock rooted Roms. I have T-Mobile SGH-T989 SG2! I wiped everything, tried touch and non touch CWM and just can't get phone to work. I tried every radio that is posted and read all radio issue threads. I even started from a fresh Odin stock flash with wiping everything on phone and sd card as well as external format. All roms that I flash work, but cant not connect to T-Mobile! I even manually applied APN's. Some Roms will detect T-Mobile and it won't connect. Keep getting AT&T, but won't register. This is the second thread I started, but with only one response for help that I tried. PLEASE, anyone with some advice, Thanks!

Tried that, Like I said: "Tried ALL radios", thx anyway!
It might be your sim card then. Try and get a new one or if its not that it could be a hardware issue

Doubt it is Sim card, phone works fine on stock JB (Rooted). Thx!
Try Network app from Market, and select GSM Auto (Prl).
Or go to settings, more, mobile networks and network mode and select GSM/WCDMA preferred.
Or go to EDGE / 2G only as a test.
In CM 10.1 and SlimBeam weeklies which I use, it seems to default to LTE/WCDMA. Since our phone does not have LTE, and very few T-mo markets have LTE, I found in some areas it would not register on the network at all until I changed the network preferences to one of the above because I presume the phone is trying LTE when the S2 doesn't have LTE. Also check your APN's? Just some suggestions.
You need a new phone perhaps then.
Seriously, with the new radio for T-Mobile or Telus, which are the only ones that work on all current roms (any others you've tried has been wasted time), and the correct apn settings, you shouldn't be having issues. Triple check radio is correct and apn.
You say your sim is fine.
So everything seems to be ruled out. And other than radio and apn, it can't be any settings, not after a clean install.
Phone busted is all that's left. Simple process of elimination. Well....if it somehow works on stock, but nothing else....then I guess your stuck with stock.
Thx.
P.s. getting snarky with people trying to help will certainly make most people, who may have ideas, just close the thread instead of trying to help.
