I haven't seen my LED light work once yet. I've had the phone since Thursday (VZW LTE) and don't even know what the LED looks like. I'm guessing its right next to the ear piece? As I said I'm still stock unrooted, but I do use Dialer One and Handcent. I'm guessing Handcent has a bug with ICS and/or the Galaxy Nexus? I go into notification settings, the LED option is checked, but when I select "Test Notification" Handcent FC/stops responding. Also when I get a new email (gmail), I don't get any kind of LED notification...Any suggestions?
It's at the bottom of the front of the phone. About 1/4" from the bottom of the phone. I've only seen it light up on new text messages though. I hear Light Flow works to customize the LED.
Go to settings > display. Is pulse notification light checked?
I also use light flow, and i was never a fan of notification lights before, but its got enough customization that i can make it act how i want it to....and things like that is why i switched to android from that other phone in the first place
When I first got mine, I thought it was broken too. I seems the default settings don't use the notification nearly as much as some other phones. I recommend getting light flow and setting up the notification light that way.
Yeah I think it was a combination of not realizing exactly where to look and it not being used as often as I would have thought. After installing Lightflow I see it now, thanks. It's actually really sick looking.
Light flow is awesome, I wish I had found this app a long time ago. I assume that you're supposed to disable notification inside the individual apps and just do it all through light flow?
Also, it doesn't seem to allow me to change colors? (I change the color setting but the light is always white-ish).

I just bought a HTC Desire Z two days ago, and was wondering about the notification light, as there are TWO in the desire Z
my question is, should the top notification light goes on when I recieve a notification, or only the bottom one will light up?
and if it's only the bottom one, how can I make the top one light up too? and in different colors, like in my friends HTC G1, he has blue, green, and red
thx for your time!
On my stock ROM (see my signature), the trackpad light blinks if you turn on that notification, but it's only every 10 seconds or so, and I actually never noticed it originally and thought it wasn't working at all. It doesn't blink the power LED.
However, I use the "Led Me Know" app from the market, and you can configure that to blink either the top LED or the trackpad LED, depending on how you set it up.
You can't make the trackpad LED blink different colours unfortunately, this was looked into a while back. The top one is limited to amber or green.
RE
ok, thx alot for the fast reply
I used LED Me Know. Works fine for the LED, but it often overrides (e.g.) my Gmail notification sound with the standard notification sound I have for messages. Or it just plays both notification sounds. I hate that, and there's no option to activate or deactivate it messing with the sounds.
Does this happen to you too?

Sorry I don't use Gmail notification and I haven't tried playing with the sounds. I suggest contacting the developer about it, he responded quickly to me when I contacted him before.

You can disable the g-mail notifications and let the app do it's own thing...
One weird thing I have noticed with the app is that it delays the notifications... Like first it disables the notification for any texts... and it pretty much waits out the time that it would have taken for the notification (vibrations) and then follows through with the notification you selected in the app settings. So pretty much I see the LED blinking for like 5 seconds before I get any audible or vibrating notification.
EDIT: I also realize that this is very poorly worded and hard to follow, But I can't think of any other way to say it so bear with me!! XD
I'm new to CM and I tried it out but I noticed that the notification light (on the left side of the speaker grill) doesn't work. Instead, the one that's on the right side (dark green and amber) are the ones being used.
Is there anyway for me to get the regular notification lights back? This isn't a big deal to me but handcent lets me change how fast the led flashes and I like that.
Thanks
Unfortunately there is no way to use the left led for notifications. CM changed it between 6.0 and 6.1.
Cyanogenmod uses the wimax led for notifications. I do not believe it can he turned off but can be configure under cm settings then interface the led notifications.
Bah! Haha well that's not cool but I guess I'll just have to get used to it. Thanks guys.
Id like my trackpad to be constantly lit if I have a notification, instead of the fade in and fade out.
Would I have to edit lights.vision?

I like this idea. Going from my Nexus One to the G2, that's one thing I miss the most...even though the N1 flashed its trackball, it was much easier to see when I had a notification from across the room. With the G2, the trackpad light is so dim as it is, and when it flashes once ever couple seconds, its barely noticeable. If I had an option to keep it on, I'm sure it would help to get my attention.
Download LED me from the market and then when your in the setting for the duration go to custom and then hit OK which should make it stay lit when you have a notification. I don't have it installed so those instructions might not be exactly "followable"

Couldn't find LED me, but there is an app LED Me Know Beta, same thing?
UPDATE: Tried the app...this actually manipulates the tiny LED light under the speaker grill of the G2. The OP and I were talking about the light surrounding the trackpad of the G2. Thanks though.
Check compatability in settings, then under the notifications tab choose whatever notification you are setting up, then choose led color, then choose trackpad.

I tried LED Me Know, but it seems to drain battery a lot. Did anyone experience this?
LED Me Know does allow you to light up the trackpad. Go into the Notifications tab, then go into the specific app you want to notify you. Under LED color, choose TrackPad. You can make it blink or not, choose the rate it blinks, and choose whether to turn if off when the screen is on. The color is the only thing that you have no choice about because it's only a white light.
I love this app. Works very well on my G2. I haven't compared the battery life with/without it yet though. But turning the indicator's off when you turn the screen on would probably help. I really hope it isn't a huge battery drain. That would be a deal breaker.
Why the heck is Android so allergic to persistent popups anyway? Every old school phone in the world is in your face when you get a call/sms/email/voicemail/chat. But it's like pulling teeth to get the Android to yell at you when you have an alert.
Anyone get Light Flow and Go SMS working together? I can't get the notification LED to work whether it's using GO SMS's built in "blinking LED" function or using Light Flow.
When attempting to use light flow, I turn off the "blinking LED" option in Go SMS. I've also tried using the alternate monitoring options.
Still not working.
EDIT: Well, I ended up uninstalling Light Flow. Notification light works again. I just can't customize the LED color. Guess I'll have to wait until Light Flow gets updated to work with the S III.
Also, even though Go SMS "blink LED" works, the color settings are messed up. The color you pick doesn't correlate to what shows up. Must be an app issue as well. But hey, at least it works.

Did you go into accessibility and enable light flow there?

Then it goes the exact opposite of mine. Mine blinks for text notifications, and stays solid for others.

Hes working on the app to address issues with lightflow an the gs3
Both my and my dad's sgh-i747 displays the wrong led colour.
Blue comes out as red, green as magenta, etc.
I'm starting to think its a problem with all north American versions of the.phone? My friends with the i9300 don't have this problem!

Yeah the hex codes are all messed up in the NA version, so regardless of what program you are setting the colors with they're almost opposite. Yellow = White from my experience if anyone wants white haha
I'm so glad this got brought up, but it's a shame nobody's found a fix yet. It's such a subtle, yet mindblowingly irritating thing. Mine is sold red, no matter what I change in both the system LED settings, or the GoSMS settings. I haven't bothered with LightFlo, since everyone reported the mis-representation of color changes in the settings.

If your on a twiz rom the colors are gonna be all messed up. For example if you use light flow to change the color of the led you'll notice that the color you set it to be is not the color it is. This is an os problem. If you flash a stock android based rom like cm9 cm10 or aokp they will be fixed.

Now this is some handy info. Does this apply to someone having CM9 or 10 AND GoSMS as well?
I was just wondering if anyone here has had luck with lightflow in getting notifications to work.
Currently I can either enable the notification light, and all it does is blink green (despite no notifications), or turn it off. Testing with lightflow resulted in, what seems like, no changes. I know there might not be a large range of colours, but it would be nice to control the notification LED.
It didn't work with any app available, I can't not understand why...maybe the led is not capable of showing more than two or three colors?
The number of colours isn't really an issue. For example, the Nexus S blinked the Home, Menu and back buttons. As long as it can be controlled it would be nice, but it doesn't seem to be able to do it.
I've been aware that I see the notification light even if there are no notifications
