Id like my trackpad to be constantly lit if I have a notification, instead of the fade in and fade out.
Would I have to edit lights.vision?

I like this idea. Going from my Nexus One to the G2, that's one thing I miss the most...even though the N1 flashed its trackball, it was much easier to see when I had a notification from across the room. With the G2, the trackpad light is so dim as it is, and when it flashes once ever couple seconds, its barely noticeable. If I had an option to keep it on, I'm sure it would help to get my attention.
Download LED me from the market and then when your in the setting for the duration go to custom and then hit OK which should make it stay lit when you have a notification. I don't have it installed so those instructions might not be exactly "followable"

Couldn't find LED me, but there is an app LED Me Know Beta, same thing?
UPDATE: Tried the app...this actually manipulates the tiny LED light under the speaker grill of the G2. The OP and I were talking about the light surrounding the trackpad of the G2. Thanks though.
Check compatability in settings, then under the notifications tab choose whatever notification you are setting up, then choose led color, then choose trackpad.

I tried LED Me Know, but it seems to drain battery a lot. Did anyone experience this?
LED Me Know does allow you to light up the trackpad. Go into the Notifications tab, then go into the specific app you want to notify you. Under LED color, choose TrackPad. You can make it blink or not, choose the rate it blinks, and choose whether to turn if off when the screen is on. The color is the only thing that you have no choice about because it's only a white light.
I love this app. Works very well on my G2. I haven't compared the battery life with/without it yet though. But turning the indicator's off when you turn the screen on would probably help. I really hope it isn't a huge battery drain. That would be a deal breaker.
Why the heck is Android so allergic to persistent popups anyway? Every old school phone in the world is in your face when you get a call/sms/email/voicemail/chat. But it's like pulling teeth to get the Android to yell at you when you have an alert.

quick question, does htc desire trackpad have any light built in? does it glow like trackball on htc hero for example when txt is received?
There's no trackball to glow!
But there's a notification light on top of the screen to the right of the "htc" logo. It flashes green when there's a notification.
so deffo trackpad doesn't have any notification light built in?
I've read somewhere that it had light under the track pad.
so the notification leds are there, just like hero. But glowing trackball I'm sure will be missed...

instead of looking at trackball (optical track pad in desire) look at the top-right of the screen the trackball might be missed, but not the glowing
I guess they did not include a LED inside the optical trackpad because it would interfere with the detection of the moving finger.
I for one definitely miss the glowing ball on my Hero, much easier to spot from accross the room.

Me too, but then again I also miss the simplistic days of my Nokia 6600 with hyper blue LEDs
Oops, I am sure that I read somewhere (phonearena maybe) that the trackpad does glow.
really annoying the small LED. you just can see it if you are in front of the phone. the light indication would be to easily recognize that you have missed call or whatever.
may be I should look after an application which can blink the screen
Android 2.2 will make the Trackball on the N1 light up different colours for notifications.
shame the desire won't have this.
when charging, the LED is pretty good visible, even from a distance. the biggest problem is, that the LED starts blinking green. That's hardly visible.
it glows
Hey,
just found out that the trackpad has light built under, and it actually indicates if you have missed tweets on twitter application.
But sadly, i can't make it happen to indicate other things (mails, texts, calls).
I found this out by accident (i dont use twitter app) - just spotted interesting option and started googling about it.
Cheers,

Anyone know what second led located on the right side of the speaker on the evo is for? I never actually seen it used. I know the main one notify you when you missed a call, have email, text, ect... But what is second one for? Only reason I know is there is before 2.2 I would use a led/flash light app and whenever I would switch it on I would see the led blink green briefly. I also noticed that my wife's hero seem to have a second led which you can also see located to right. Anyone have a clue?
It's a dull red LED and on the right side, not as bright as the left side Green is when it is fully charged for example.
No idea what it is for, but I have the sinking feeling in my stomach that I know what it is for...
Yea, my Evo has it turn on red when charging
I've searched everywhere for what it actually means, but haven't found anything for the Evo.
There seems to be the orange one while it is charging, and if it completely dead and won't turn on, and maybe if there is some sort of error, then it blinks red.
I think I recall it flashing when my evo decided the battery temp was too high to let it charge.

On the Hero, its the light sensor. No idea on the Evo though. I don't even see it...
Why do people make stuff up when they don't know the answer?

Left is for charging (orange, green), notifications (green), low battery (orange), and overheating (orange and green flashing). Right is the wimax LED but we don't know what causes it to turn on or off. I've seen it briefly flash once.
Perhaps since don't have 4g in my area won't be able test it. Like said in my first post I saw it go off when using an led/flash light app and it was green.
i always thought it would turn on when you were connected to 4g...
Just tested and it doesn't turn on when 4g is connected.

wonder what its for? any devs out there have a clue or could maybe put it to use...
I recently installed CM 6.1 w/Handscent and the second LED on the right side of the speaker grill now lights up whenever i receive a notification. It is a different shade of green than the LED on the left. It has a 5 off 1 on cycle. I actually cant find any settings for it anywhere on my phone.
Also I cant get the original LED to light up for notifications.
Its the "WiMax" LED. Actually 2 LEDs, a green and a red, which can both be enabled at the same time to make orange. By default, it never seems to light up even with 4G on.

yeah when the battery temp is to high it flashes on the left side..but the right side seems to be for notifications as well....based off the MIUI Rom it blinks when i get a noticfication...no idea if its for just texts or what, but i know when i get a text the green led on the RIGHT blinks..not the left one..at least not on the rom im running..could be different i know on all sense roms it never worked..
anyone if the led on the RIGHT can change colors or anyother function?
This. It never seemed to do anything and a lot of people didn't know it was even there. Then someone took advantage of it and used it for notifications and now it is in CM6. Original thread somewhere in themes apps section.

Perfect answer.^^
Look up WiMax notifier if you want to control it.
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746732<-- Go there.
The app didn't work on my CM6, but CM6.1 has control for that LED built in.
yeah i noticed this too, on CM6.1 it blinks a darker green than the left.
I haven't seen my LED light work once yet. I've had the phone since Thursday (VZW LTE) and don't even know what the LED looks like. I'm guessing its right next to the ear piece? As I said I'm still stock unrooted, but I do use Dialer One and Handcent. I'm guessing Handcent has a bug with ICS and/or the Galaxy Nexus? I go into notification settings, the LED option is checked, but when I select "Test Notification" Handcent FC/stops responding. Also when I get a new email (gmail), I don't get any kind of LED notification...Any suggestions?
It's at the bottom of the front of the phone. About 1/4" from the bottom of the phone. I've only seen it light up on new text messages though. I hear Light Flow works to customize the LED.
Go to settings > display. Is pulse notification light checked?
I also use light flow, and i was never a fan of notification lights before, but its got enough customization that i can make it act how i want it to....and things like that is why i switched to android from that other phone in the first place
When I first got mine, I thought it was broken too. I seems the default settings don't use the notification nearly as much as some other phones. I recommend getting light flow and setting up the notification light that way.
Yeah I think it was a combination of not realizing exactly where to look and it not being used as often as I would have thought. After installing Lightflow I see it now, thanks. It's actually really sick looking.
Light flow is awesome, I wish I had found this app a long time ago. I assume that you're supposed to disable notification inside the individual apps and just do it all through light flow?
Also, it doesn't seem to allow me to change colors? (I change the color setting but the light is always white-ish).
I'm not sure if the vibration is working on my phone, or not. I have haptic feed back on, and the vibration sensitivity set to the far right. I have also set the vibration on key press to on, as well. I'm not able to feel the vibration at all. I just want to know whether the vibration is strong on the phone, or whether it's very weak, due to the thinness of the phone.
Also, I've noticed my notification led does not light up. Watching some videos of the phone, it shows the led lit up in the upper right corner. I can see the spot for the led when I angle the phone certain ways, but it doesn't come on when charging, or when I get notifications.
I did buy the phone used, and it looks like it may have been dropped a couple of times (screen is in perfect shape, but the outer rim of the phone has marks on it, on the corners), and am thinking maybe the led and the vibration may have been casualties of these falls.
Everything else is fine, and I'm used to not having a notification led, since the Nexus S didn't have one, but I miss the vibration when I type, or get a phone call/text/email/etc.

I'll assume you are on a stock, or stock-ish (Calkulin's for example) ROM.
The vibration is definitely noticeable, and you should be getting LED notifications.
I would suggest possibly using ODIN and going back to the stock rooted ROM or flashing one of the fine ROMs in the development sub-forum and see if that improves your problem.
I can see why the vibration function would break -- dislodged vibrator motor. As far as the LED is concerned, there should be no reason why the LED doesn't work under normal circumstances.
Hope this helps!
I should add that I'm using sfhub's stock rooted EL29 rom. I am currently not running a custom recovery at this time.
I had the same problem, backed up, but before I restored to stock, I went into the clockwork and selected the, "fix permissions" been fine for almost two weeks.

I installed the apk NoLed from GooglePlay (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...lt#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5sZWQubm90aWZ5Il0.) and i think it is a fantastic apk as we donĀ“t have a regular notification led as others phones.
How does this work exactly does it prevent your phone from going to sleep? What about the Lock screen? Do you have to remove the lock screen to see this?

You have lots of options to configure the apk, when i receive email (gmail) my phone vibrate, make a sound and the screen blinks an small mail icon, all black, just the icon. You can set how long it will blink, can also ajust the proximity sensor to not show the icon when the phone is in you pocket, and so on.
Too much to tell, install and try.
Seems good!
Thanks
The app is quite good, very customizable, but it drains too much battery. Energy saving options are not enough.
Sadly uninstalled.

Are you referring to with even no notifications active? Or with notifications active?
For me, it doesn't seem to bad, though overall batter drain is like 10% over 10 hours, sleeping with nothing else active.
Can't say.. if i get a text, or just a whatsapp notification or anything else, my battery is drained when i take it back. I don't say that battery is halved, but it is still a remarkable loss.
This is why we need BLN. BLN should use a lot less juice as it is only a small LED and not a big screen. Hopefully someone will modify the ICS kernel and we will get it.

From what you said, i'm assuming you totally has no idea how (AM)OLED screens works, so let me give you a fast walktrough.
On most mobile phones you can see TFT-LCD based screens. These screens uses a background (white) light trough the entire screen surface, this light is first polarized then secondly filtered. This filter is controlled by the electronic, witch results how it blocks or let's trough the way of the background light, resulting the picture what you see on the screen.
However the LED screens, including OLED and AMOLED screen are rather different from the above.
Each pixel on the screen is one tiny independent light source, aka. a Light Emitting Diode.
When the question comes to power consumption, from the above you can see that the TFT-LCD has a relative constant power consumption, because the backlight always has to be on, even if the entire screen shows black.
As for LED displays, only those areas uses power, witch actually emits light, in other words: the pixel/screen area is else then full black.
This is the reason why "use as much black as possible" is mostly suggested for this kind of screen, because if the less leds emitting light, the less the power consumption are.
for further informations please read:

this is a must have... if u don't have an led and amoled and from what iv'e seen it isnt a battery hog...
