One of my coworkers showed me the Verizon Gnex he had gotten the day before. I scrolled through the homescreens, went into the app drawer and scrolled through it, went back to the homescreen and pulled down the notification bar and swiped away the notifications one by one, said "Cool", and handed it back. A minute later he showed me his phone and it had no icons on any of the homescreens OR in the app drawer. So I rebooted the phone for him and handed it back. When it came up he said they were all back, but after a minute they disappeared again. You could still scroll through all the homescreens (evidenced by the aspect of the wallpaper changing) and enter the app drawer, but there were no icons anywhere.
I did not have time to look into it at the time since this was at a luncheon, and he left after lunch, but afterwards I searched the net to see if anyone else had a similar problem and only found a reference to an SGSII missing all the homescreen icons which was solved by doing a battery pull. I am not sure if he had already gotten the OTA update.
Anyone else seen this?

Anyone else having problems getting items to appear on the Today screen?
I am having some trouble getting things to appear on the Today screen. If I go to Start, Settings, Today and then to the Items tab, that is suppose to be where you can check things off that you want to appear on the Today screen. I check some things off like Skyfire, Wunderradio, etc and then click OK on the top right corner. But when I go back to the today screen, the items dont appear. If I go back to the settings, nothing is checked anymore.
Also, Ive seen some people have Weather appear on their today screen. Example, "Sun" kinda right in front of their clock. I see no option for Weather to appear on Today screen.
There is one option checked when you return:
TouchFlo
So you have to uncheck this one to activate others.
ahhh ok. That did it. Not quite what I hoped itd be. I was hoping for keeping my the original clock and what not but I guess you have to use custom themes/skins for that.
Thanks
After I download a new app from the market, when I return to my homescreen, the phone shortcut disappears from the far left position in my dock...its just blank, and then I have to drag the phone icon from my app drawer to get it back.
Anyone else seeing this??
I'm on LTE version with 4.0.2...
Still seeing this issue. Just installed the XDA premium app, and my camera app disappeared from my home screen.
Really, no one else is seeing this ???
As of today I have started to get a gray bar that appears on the bottom of my screen with a design that looks like a thumbprint on it. It covers the bottom part of my keyboard making the space and return keys completely inaccessible. The only way I've found to temporarily get rid of it is to restart my phone. Anyone know what this is?
hold home and swipe up to see if it goes away.
How about a screenshot? Install a new app recently?
I took a screenshot, and tried to post it with the initial question, but the forums won't let me post it since I have never commented here before.
No new apps, but I had just recently started using the car dock. It did it probably about 15 times that day, but hasn't done it since, and I didn't come back to look for answers until the next day.
Thanks for the responses, and if it happens again I'll try Tidbits suggestion and post if it works.
Anyone seen this? The Status Bar disappears. I believe that it was after the phone app started and after a call ended.
Rebooting let's it come back.
Is there a specific app that can be restarted to reload the screen components?
It is like that even on the homescreen or in other apps.
Huh.... Oddly enough, rotating the screen brings it back.
I have the Note 8 on Verizon. Last week I received a software update to Oreo. Shows on phone as N950USQU3CRC2.
Excuse my terminology if I call something the wrong thing. I will attempt to be as detailed as possible.
I have several apps that put information into the status bar. This is what I call the bar at the top of the phone with the time and battery indicator, etc. I do not have a screen stand by, or lock or anything else. I push the button on the right to cut the screen on and off. All power saving features that I am aware of have been disabled.
Since the software update, some of information that used to stay permanently (persistent notification?) in the status bar would seem to be missing. When I pull down on the status bar to see all the notifications, I see the missing information, but now it seems to be minimized (compacted?). It has down arrows that I have to press to expand the information, then I actually have to open the app to get the information to go back to the status bar. After a short time the notifications disappear from the status bar again and I have to slide it down, expand with the arrow, open the app, etc. over and over.
It is very frustrating to have to do this all day long. Am I missing something? Is there a way to turn this minimization (compacting?) off so that all status bar info shows in the status bar all the time?
Hi I had this problem with one of my apps on Oreo. Go to Settings...Display....Status Bar. Make sure where it says show only 3 recent notifications is turned off. That should should hopefully help
Lrivera76, thanks for your reply. I checked where you referenced and it is turned off already. Interestingly enough, since about noon today, the three notifications I have been fighting with for the past few days have been staying on the status bar. The others that I do not care so much about are still staying minimized or compacted and I have to slide the notifications down to see them, but I do not really care if I see them or not. I began to wonder if the OS had some way of learning that I wanted these 3 left at the top because I kept reopening them over and over? I don't know. I wish there was an obvious way to just turn the minimizing thing off. We can already turn off a notification if we do not want it. What would be the purpose of leaving it on, but not see it. I don't get it.

Click to collapse
I use the Navbar app and now with Oreo it stays on my pull-down menu as well. That didn't happen on Nouget. If you haven't tried, clear your cache partition and restart your phone. I was at the point where I was going to do a factory reset due to my battery not lasting the way it did but basically checking all my settings, notifications, displays, etc turning off things that where on when they weren't before saved me from having to do it. Give it a couple of days for the OS to settle if not you can do a factory reset to see if it gets rid of any issues.
