Hey everyone. Im running ei22 and i have horribly slow data speeds on 3g. the latency is in the 1000s to 1500s and speed is around 100kbps or slow both down and up. please help. i dont care what rom, what modem, or what kernel i use. i just cant use this like this. my only request is to be on gingerbread and to be able to use 4g when its avail.
Thanks in advance.
Try CleanGB. Simple and stable. Good battery life. It was my first ROM and im happy with it.

All the GB ROMs have 4G working fine. Your 3G issues sounds like a bad tower near you. You can try reflashing the modem. If you go to a GB ROM you will need to Odin in the EC05 modem so you can flash the EC05toEI22 modem.
Have you tried using an older modem? I think every phone has a sifferent one that seems to work better than the others. Mine personally gives me the best spped with the EH17 modem. Flash a new one and see what happens.
I've felt that data is slow on EI22 since I installed it. You may be experiencing the same thing, it may be inherent.

k guys ive been looking at why so many people running CM on their evos have been getting horrible data speeds.
i flashed 6.1.1 as well as the v7 kernel from Bnice on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9878475&postcount=2
my speeds have been great. i encourage you look to into it and post back with your results
EDIT: UPON REBOOT DATA SPEEDS SLOWED BACK DOWN...

I wasn't aware this was a widespread issue on CM... my data speeds have been fine on CM.
How are you testing? And you've ruled out signal issues?
its horrible. i really dont know what happened because i used to be fine on CM6 also. one day everything changed. and yes when i flash a sense rom i get normal 3G speeds. ive run RUUs and wiped everything. i dont know where to begin. i think im going to completely delete everything off of my internal storage and external storage until i have a completely stock evo and try to start over
I'm Running cm6.1 in NYC and I get horrible 3g speeds. I've been running cm6 for a while now and never noticed how the 3g speeds were until this weekend. I love cm6 Rom but I might just have to go back to Sense if no solution is found.
i have contacted cyanogen about it. hopefully he will address the problem soon
Hey all,
Ever since flashing to the new alpha, I have noticed that my 3g connection is real spotty, especially when traveling.
It is mainly an issue when trying to stream music from google play.
If I switch back to stock, all is well.
Even 4g is spotty as well.
Is it recommended to try a different modem or am I just better off sticking with stock?
I'd like to keep the mod but if need be I will go back to stock.
Thank you in advance.
I've had pretty decent 3G service with the rom. I haven't really used the 4G much, but when I have its been solid. I have noticed it does report 3G when there is only 2G service though.
I had the same issues trying to run CM9. The 3g was really spotty and the 4g was downright horrible (sub 3g speeds but ran great on stock). I tried every modem available before I finally gave up and have been using the stock ICS leaks from sfhub.
I had the same issues with CM9 until I tried out the FD19 modem. That fixed me right up. Not every device will behave the same way, but I have had the best experience with FD19 modem with the FD10 kernel.
I noticed on all CM9/AOKP based roms on the T989, my 4G data isn't as fast. By comparison on stock and Darkside roms, My speed tests are consistently double-digit download (10-14 kbps) and around 3kbps upload. But on CM9/AOKP based roms, I don't get above 5 kbps down, and 2 kbps up. These are the typical speeds I would be getting on an HSPA+ 21 phone.
Do we have any information on why this is? Do CM9/AOKP not support HSPA+ 42? Is there a script I can run to improve this?
Thank you in advance.
I noticed the the same thing. On tw ics I normally get 8-18mbps. Aokp and cm9 5-8mbps but good enough

I have had sporadic success getting 13 mbps by flashing the le1 radio included with darkside. For the most part though i cant use cm9/aokp for this reason, no one really knows why to my understanding.
I flashed one of the Tellus radios and it's working very well for me. Running AOKP

I agree-I have the same issue. I'm on CM9 and love it but it's vever been as fast as the Dark Side roms.
lol but noooooooo everyone looooves CM roms because they don't have bugs, issues or anything
Try flashing one of the modems for the Darkside ROMs when you flash an AOKP or CM based rom?
That should do the trick. Probably is just a modem issue over anything else.

No it's not a modem issue. I've already tried all the Darkside modems and the issue is the same and consistent. I truly believe whatever makes HSPA+ 42 work on stock and darkside is not implemented on the CM9/AOKP roms, because the speeds I get are consistent with what people with Nexus phones in my area on T-Mobile get, and they only use HSPA+ 21.
I've gotten a best of 18.50Mbps down on AOKP.

Any particular radio/kernal combo?
just the 6/15 build, i didn't flash any other radio/kernel. now i'm on the 7/3 build and am getting about 10Mbps down inside my office building (which has pretty bad reception, the 18Mbps was inside a house).

Yea no joy with that, reg build without any radios fetches me 8 Mbps max in an area that i get 13 Mbps.
Yes, I noticed a slow down from GB to stock (debloated & rooted) ICS ROMs... But it seems like AOKP may be even a little slower than that.
I've seen some users post lines that you can replace in the build.prop file which they said gave them faster speeds on AOKP... but then people just stopped talking about them.
The user did say that the only way he could see a difference in speeds using the build.prop fix was to tether his phone to another device and do the speedtest on it... For some reason he was certain that speedtest.net was reporting lower numbers for AOKP ROMs, but the speed was still there... You'll have to go back and read the AOKP thread in the general section to find it.

I don't know about that I flashed UVLE1 radio from darkside and actually got speed test results of about 12 Mbps to 13 for a few hours. After about a half day of use it dropped back down to 8. Reflashed the radio and it still wouldn't go back up.

I've tried several speed tests, not just speedtest.net and I get the same consistent results of slower data speeds. As far as real-world results, I have seen problems streaming video on PLEX on 4G with CM9/AOKP roms that work just fine with Darkside. So it's not just an issue with speedtest. Something is different. Would love to have some input on this from Eugene or Yaldak or someone like that.

I'll most likely be testing it out tonight as well. Thanks for the feedback!
I'm on milestone 6 and I see no increase in data speeds from the past builds I still get 4-8 mbs as on dark site I would get 15-18 mbs

just tried fi03 and my 3g speeds were higher than 4g
It's whatever modem works for you
I know some popular ones are FH13
FI25..FF18
I personally use F125..And works great for me.. Also make sure to upgrade your prl /profile on a tw ics rom or GB rom
-TeaM VeNuM Like A Boss
Imma noob but I've been testing and...
So far with jelly bean I've noticed the modems change your speed a little but the best way to get speeds is tweak your wimax hidden menu. Doubled my speeds on FI03 (best for my area) I do recommend u try ff18. Seems to work best with most ppl. Wasn't my case but it wasn't horrible.
Sent from my E4GT running paranoid android 2.16
I've gotten the best signal with FH13 so far. I tried out FF18 and I was able to get a 4G signal where I wasn't able to with FH13. Even though I was able to connect to 4G in these areas, I still got better speeds in the same area with 3G on FH13. Try flashing different modems and do some speed tests to figure out which modem works best for you!
fi25 works great for me. low ping and high uploads :good:
So I have no idea what would be causing this, but here's the deal. I'm on a Boost SGS2 E4GT, and when I'm on stock I average around 3-4 mbps using the wimax where I'm at. Then I flash AGAT kernel via Odin, flash SU, and then I can't break 600kpbs no matter what server I pick on Speedtest. Then I odin back to full stock and my speeds go right back up. What gives? Any ideas?

It has to do with the custom kernel. You can flash agat's stock repact kernel, so you have a custome recovery, re-root and you should be fine after that. But there is a speed deffernce between custom kernels and stock kernels. They have an effect on the modem. I don't kow why, but I can say personally that I have experienced this as well.
I can confirm that this worked. I did a speedtest and pulled 600kbps from my local server. Then flashed agat repack, rebooted, then got 8mbps on the same server.
So you're absolutely right it is the custom kernel, thank you! Does this mean that I'm stuck on tw based roms if i want 4g speeds?

I wouldn't say stuck. You can try different AOSP/CM type ROMs. And see if your speeds go up or down.

Okay thanks. I'll shop around and see what i can see.

Bump -- I've been looking but havent found any. Anyone know of AOSP/CM10 compatible kernels that don't cripple 4g speed?

You can also try different modems as well as kernels. keep in mind that from one minute to the next the cell towers can get jammed with traffic slowing your speeds down. However it is true some custom rom can deplete 4g speeds, but the user experience with a custom rom can be so much better than the stock experience. Some people like the stock roms. Thats th beauty of android, we have so many choices

I certainly understand about that the speed will vary, but I'm talking an a difference of 8mb/s. If I run on stock kernel, I get 9mb/s pretty consistently. If custom, I max out at 600kb/s. If I go back and forth between the kernels I see my speed vary as I would expect (e.g. within five minutes, speedtest on stock kernel gets 9mb/s then flash custom and get 600kb/s).
I like custom roms, too, but I also like getting what I paid for in terms of 4g, hence my dilemma.
