LTE Radios - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

My girlfriend just got the GN and the phone itself is amazing. It's just suffering from the low signal bug that has been going around.
She is on EK05/EK02 right now
Is there other radios for the LTE GN? She is at -100db when her incredible was usually at -80 in this area.
If you have a GN with good service, what radio are you running? Does anyone have zips with different radios?

If it makes you feel better I know that AOSP roms on the thunderbolt show data signal and not voice signal.. not sure if that is the case with nexus phones or not

Are you in a 4G area? I turned off the 4g because the nearest market is hundreds of miles away. That seemed to give me about the same I had on my dinc. Have you updated the PRL? Try *228 then option 2.

4g is off. That is her 3g signal.

doesn't work that way with an LTE phone. You have to turn the phone off, pull the sim, and let it sit five mins or so, put it back together and reboot.

[Q] Poor cell signal- often roaming

I've had the E4GT for less than 24hrs, and biggest issue is the less than splendid cell reception. Sitting in my living room i used to get 2-3 bars- this thing constantly throws into roaming. I updated my PRL, Profile, and Firmware. Didn't know what the latest PRL was that was out.
I know this thing has only been out a few days, so i understand some bugs. Is anyone else having signal issues where they didn't before?
I'm really trying rock this for a couple days stock before i root the hell out of it, lol.
Thanks for any input. Link me to resources if you like, i have no issues reading up on my own if this is a common issue.

Ditto! I even have an Air Rave and reception is poor.
I am running into the same situation. It keeps on switching between roaming and normal for no reason. I usually get pretty good reception in my room. It will sit there at about 2-3 bars reception, few minutes later its roaming. The phone hasn't been moved at all.
This happened to me 20 minutes after I got it on Friday but after a reboot it was fine. No problem since then. I assumed it was a network issue.
Same issue here, even with Airave (evo next to SG2 has better signal)
Huh, I'm getting better reception than my Evo 4G. The Epic Touch now works in my condo elevator at basement garage level where the Evo would consistently drop a call.
has anyone did a signal strength comparison instead of bars. they may have different values per bar on different phones.
Returns are warranted?

I wonder if there is a difference in radios or something. My experience tells me that this radio is finicky as heck, and I don't know why.
Is there a way to find out if Samsung used different parts or suppliers to make the Epic Touch?
I remember HTC doing this with their phones, and some would be fine, and some would not (different issue each phone, lol)
Mine was doing the same i switched the phone to only go on sprints network and has been fine. I rarely need true roaming but it would go into roaming even when sprint service was available.
I think Sprint may be doing network upgrades/maintenance. The same phenomenon occurs on my Epic 4G Touch and multiple Nexus S 4G's. I'll see signal jump from -106 dBm to -76 dBm and in some places go into roaming. Nothing to worry about as long as it works. They may be upgrading equipment to support EVDO rev B hopefully.
I get much better 4G reception on the E4GT than the NS4G, FWIW.
My signal isn't as good as my photon was better then my evo 3d. I usually don't roam much. Trust me when I say this, reception could be worse lol ill deal with it!!

I hope the poor signal has to do with upgrading to EvDo RevB on Oct7
Thank God I am not alone. My cell reception too is finicky. In places my old evo (which my girl use now)have weak signal my epic touch would roam in and out. Sometimes it won't leave roaming even after I get to a known good reception area. Only a reboot would kick it back to sprint network. I read somewhere that calling sprint and having them reset my phone on their end might help. I am going to try this out as soon as I get home.

[Q] 4g Problem with my new phone

This is my first 4g phone.
I am not sure the 4g is working properly. Need some input.
I have the 4g turned on. This phone seems to flip flop between 3g and 4g connection. It does not seem to hold a steady 4g connection and seems to often be downloading on 3g.
Did I get a dud? Should I try and have it swapped out?
Annoying to be paying a premium for 4g service when more than half the time I am getting 3g download speeds.
If it matters, I live in Las Vegas
I'm having the same problem

I live in Vegas, too. If you're trying from inside a house, you'll be lucky to hold a 4G signal. While they've got the valley pretty well covered, it's still not great. Some towers have greater coverage than others. I live in NW and have no 4G until about a half mile from my home.
The only place I know to have solid 4G is on the Strip/Convention Center area. I use it to stream during my shift.
....
Just so you know : you are not paying for 4g. It's a premium data charge, which is charged to all subscribers with or without 4g phones. Just thought you should know what your paying for.

ive noticed the 4g radio is a little finnicky sometimes, however haven't noticed anything coverage related. Using EVO view right now...this thing has a much better 4g antenna. My embedded laptop gets the best though. I'm in Vegas too...and work for clearwire.
Full bar 4G here but I am not in Vegas. It should sleep when not in use but when its switching between 3G and 4G alot, it eats battery. Sprint 4G is notorious for not being great indoors

Update
Well, after another day without the device hooking up to 4g for crap, I headed down to the sprint store.
Of course at the store, 4g is working. I tell the lady working there what is going on and she seems incredulous of my claim as the 4g currently seems to work.
The lady takes the phone, plugs it in to a cable. After 3 minutes she hands it back to be me and says, "it is now aligned with the towers." I said, so it should work. She says yes. Is this really a real thing??
I will post tomorrow with results of another days use.
Dunno if it is a hardware or software issue but has definitely not been working as it should. Wont even hook up to 4g in the car let alone in a building.
I also live in las Vegas, NW in fact and my GPS lock on is timeless , fast as heck, but for some reason at the Strip, is slow(almost never with the Epic4G) but a few seconds it takes with the ET4G.
The 3G speed varies on what area you're at sadly, sometimes for some reason when im in the parking lot of Paris, I have no connection, and even my phonecalls drop, but the moment i exit, baam! it works, 3G speed is up and down, recenty after updating my Profile and PRL, it has been snappy some what amazinly, and 4G hit and Miss in some areas.
Is fast on my own opinion anyway , for 4G i only get one bar at this very moment, but is still fast.

Exactly lol, but at home NW i also get it too.
Other thing I notice is when it switches from 4g to 3g, the 4g will not turn back on unless it is manually switched on and off.

Since it's your first experience with WiMAX, if you're expecting to drive around and keep 4G connected, it ain't gonna happen. Pretty much you have to be stationary and in good coverage area. And take the coverage maps with a grain of salt.

hmm.. I haven't tried this myself..Only tried 4G and it stayed there no change, I'll do this when im at home, since im at work at the moment.
Though if you can replicate this problem, do it for the Sprint Rep and see if they can exchange it for ya.

this is disappointing to say the least...well many of us have given sprint a fair try...i only wonder how do some ever get use to this...i know for a fact this is not the norm for all carriers while i guess some really do get good coverage with sprint.
Mine does the same exact thing

When I go from one spot to another in the car, the 4g signal is lost and phone reverts to 3g.
I have to toggle 4g off/on to reconnect.
I did the tweaks listed here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265990
but no help.
Did the tweaks improve this for anyone? Anyone else having this issue?

nexus dropping connection

My nexus keeps dropping all data! After a reboot ill have data for 3 minutes then bam its gone same with 3G! Is there anyway to dia *228 to update your roaming stuff or something i have tried eberything i have roaming on and have done multiple restores any ideas
add *22899 as a contact and dial it from your contacts. It will update your prl. Maybe this will work for you.

No good anything else?
I get the same thing. I updated my radio and seems to work a little better but still get data drop.

Well, I had the same issue a couple of days ago. But the issue was not with the phone....it was with the signal tower. You should call Verizon and see what's going on. Sometimes there are areas where 4G signals are also weak. I spent one night at South Beverly Drive and Wilshire in Los Angeles, and I got no 4G signal whatsover. If you live by the area where there are lots of tall buildings, you probably won't get any data signals. So you might wanna check both.
My first Nexus would lose all signal at random, even if I was in an area with 4 bars of 4G. Swapping the SIM card out didn't work, so I swapped the phone out.
The new one works perfectly in a 4G area, but in a 3G-only area (like where I live), it will drop its data connection a lot. It keeps voice, but the 3G icon disappears. Switching into CDMA-only mode didn't help. Flashing the 4.0.3 radios didn't help. I use a lot of data, so I'm left wondering whether I should swap this phone out, or just give up on having a Nexus.
I don't experience any connectivity issues so far(I live in Fullerton, California), and my brother, 2 of my friends, friends' friend, my girlfriend and her little brother!
It started after the 4G outage... Could have that hurt my phone? I highly doubt it but you never know...hmmm to verizon when I get back home from vacation
EDIT: Been on CDMA and it seems to be working, low bars, but seems to be. Maybe its verizon's network where I am, ill check again tomorrow. Hope its working this is really making me sad I really do love my nexus
Could it be your modem/radio? I'm using a GSM nexus, but I had loads of signal drops on the KK1 modem till I updated to the KK6 modem

I was wondering the same thing. Mine has been sporadic since the outages while my wife's charge is rock solid. I have tried to lose a signal with her charge and it won't do it. 3g is awful on my nexus. It'll be there for a minute or two then gone. Really frustrating cause I love this phone
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I've been seeing the same thing but it seems to only happen when I'm on LTE. Example...I just went out and was in a 4G coverage area with full signal. Around every 15-20 minutes I would lose all form of signal for about 30 seconds and it would come back. I've found that switching to CDMA only allows me to maintain a solid connection. During the period that I was experiencing the outages my girlfriends RAZR has been rock solid. Looks like I may be spending some time on the phone with Verizon tomorrow.

Sprint LTE connection issues

Anyone else having problems establishing and keeping an LTE connection?
I'm in San Antonio and the while city is orange (LTE) on the coverage map. However I rarely get 4g and if I do it never stays connected for more than a few minutes. I have been sitting at my desk all day and I have had 4g maybe 20% of the time. When it does connect I get 3-4 bars so I don't think it is a bad signal issue.
Currently running RUJellin M1 with the FG01 radios. Same thing was happening with the stock radios.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You are lucky, I'm in Dallas and I've checked the 4g coverage map and there's coverage where I live, but have I once ever received 4g? No. Tried ICS roms and JB. FD02 and FG01 radios. No go for me. So you're lucky bud.

blame sprint
I think it's because the time out to default to 3g is too short. Try toggling airplane mode off/on and see if it reconnects. Also if you haven't already, try the latest modem leaked a few days ago.

I always got full bars of 4G WiMax with my E4gt in my office. With my Nexus I only get 4G LTE about 10% of the time, and the 3G that it reverts to is usually only two or three bars.

A couple of times I have toggled the data connection off and on and it will connect to LTE.
Is there a way to change the time out. I seem to remember being able to tweak a setting on my Evo that kept 4G connected better.
Went to sprint store. Every phone in the store had 4g except mine. Guy wouldn't swap it out. Said it was a network issue as always. Its always something with sprint. i told the guy well why does this phone "same phone" have 4g and mine doesn't. Well...... Sorry it's a network issue. Yea right.....Long story short i always get these run around when in contracts. I going to GSM and prepaid. No more subsidized for me. I am in North Richland Hills

Hows the radios working for ya??????

Ok, ready to pull the trigger on a Note 2 but having the ET4G and the issues with reception, Im a little hesitant on Sammy phones now.. I love my Epic T but low up and download speeds kill me. Im missing calls and its not showing up in my call log and texts messages too. I have friends who have the GS3 and some love it and some hate it. Two friends can sit side by side with their SG3 and have totally different reception, I dont get it. I hear the radio and antenna are the same from the GS3 but wondering if the size of the antenna in the Note 2 has changed and if so, is that change enough to help reception issues?
Any input from those who just got one would be greatly appreciated.
I haven't seen lte, but 3g is just as good as you can get on Sprint

I too have the epic touch, a d then the s3.
Although I cannot comment on note 2,because I don't have it yet, the s3's radio is much better than epic touch.
Instant gps lock and no LOS
I too have the E4G and have just been patiently waiting....I almost jumped on the SIII, but thought I would wait. I think GN2 is what I have been waiting for.
The missed calls (never ringing), daily lock ups and reboots are driving me crazy!
I picked mine up this morning, I'm very happy with reception so far, seeing a lot of improvement over my old epic 4g, and the download speeds seem a tad inproved in my commonly trodden areas

I cannot hold a steady 3g data connection. Network mode is set to cdma/lte/evdo and it keep bouncing on and off for 3g. just came from the Evo lte and that phone at the same spot can hold a 3g eHDRP or Evdo just fine. Going to see if sprint can reprovision this phone for me. If this is a normal thing with samsung phone then I have no choice but to return it.

Update:
Phone is now connecting better after switiching perferred roaming from automatic to sprint only. All my previous phone have no problem when set to automatic roaming. Well at least now my data is not dropping like it was. My real test by putting it on sprint only (home on samsung's phone) is to see if it will connect to LTE where's LTE is available. I will find out after work when I'm on my way home since I get no LTE connection here at work.
Anyone coming from the galaxy s3 miss the simultaneous voice and data? I can't believe this phone can't do it unless connected to lte.
