Good honest review from my coworker between the two phones, Verizon Galaxy-Nexus and Sprint Galaxy SII
My coworker just bought the Verizon Galaxy-Nexus, coming from an old HTC Incredible, that was damaged. He is not a [H]ard geek, but likes new tech. He was comparing to my Sprint Galaxy SII, that is rooted, with custom ROM, and ICS theme. He actually likes my phone better he said after a day with his new Nexus.
Some of his complaints on the Nexus;
- Speaker is very low, even at max hard to hear GPS navigation
- Screen is not that bright, looks good he says, but not what he expected after all the hype.
- Battery life totally blows he said, on his second day, and battery gets low quickly after a full charge. Lasts half a day.
- Phone is fast, but not butter smooth, there is slight lag here and there sometimes.
- Android 4.0 ICS is hard for him to get used to, feels almost alien to him after having an HTC Sense device running Froyo. He said needs awhile to still figuring everything out.
Now he compared it to my Galaxy SII with same points;
- Speaker is very loud and clear on my phone, loudest he's heard on a phone.
- GS2 is not high res, but still looks very clear, and extremely colorful.
- Battery life on my SII lasts a full day easily.
- Pretty much zero lag on my device he says, where the Nexus does have a little.
- I am on Android 2.3.6 with custom ROM + Theme, hard to really compare, I prefer full 4.0 ICS myself, but he's on the fence he said, almost prefers my tweaked Touchwiz 4.0 better.
My opinion, would be a full stable ICS ROM running on our Sprint GS2, might be a tad faster/smoother than the Galaxy-Nexus. But Verizon has us on the network speeds, not even talking about LTE vs WiMax, but their 3G is almost as fast as our 4G. Sprint's network just blows lately in Chicago_land, 3G is a ****ing joke.
Nice write up. My take is its more about the data network than the hardware. Sure some people will prefer pure ICS, but we'll have it on this phone at some point.
I do wish i had better data speeds sometimes but I can live with it.

I'm still on the fence. I could go and trade my E4GT in right now for it and walk out with $50 best buy credit...but I love my unlimited data. I go hog-effing-wild on data. Though that has gotten pretty difficult on Sprint these days. Verizon 3G is much faster in my area and LTE is just...wow. As for the phone itself, well, I like the zero-shutter-lag on the camera. The panel has the same amount of sub-pixels as ours, so, I'm really curious to see the difference between the two screens up close both set to 160 DPI....I'm willing to bet it's probably going to be close to a draw for most things. We also have a superior CPU and GPU. Vastly superior? Not really...but enough to measure reliably.
But to have a Nexus device...guaranteed first-in-line updates are nice. "Just unlocking it" 'cuz you are allowed to...that's nice, though a moot point given how easy this phone was to get into. Not to mention pretty much guaranteed CM support, MIUI as well...and Nexus devices seem to just be smoother than any device built off the same platform. Nexus One and Evo4G were on the identical platform, save for a few minor differences (CDMA, FFC, HDMI, FPS cap lol) and an N1 smoked an Evo in day to day performance, even on the same ROM....same for the GalaxyS vs the NexusS...even though they were on the identical platform. Though I'm not so sure there will ever be another OMAP Samsung phone, I could be wrong. I never thought there would be a Snapdragon GalaxyS2 either.
...and I have gadgetitis, it's been exactly 3 months since I got a new phone, lol. That's pretty much exactly when I usually get a new one.
I want to see one in person, then I'll make my mind.
I was just gonna reply to your thread over on Hard Forum. I have a friend who's got one as well. My personal opinion is that I like the GS2 better. It is faster, smoother, has a better screen (imo), has a better camera and a louder speaker.
I appreciate Google's idea behind the Nexus phones. However, even with the last Nexus S, there were some shortcomings the phone had in comparison to other hardware that was already out on the market.
I'm pretty content with my GS2 after using the GNexus for a bit.

Yeah after seeing the magical Nexus in my owns hands, I was not as wow'd and impressed like I thought I would be. This is supposed to be the second coming, and god of all phones, and compared to my rooted GS2, I just don't see a night and day difference. Yes the Nexus is a better device, but barely, and put ICS on both phones, and the difference really goes away.
The Nexus screen seems dark, and just not as colorful as my GS2. The loud speaker is a major bummer on the Nexus, can barely hear the thing. And there is an ever so slightly lag once in a while, that I don't get on my GS2.
But it has ICS which is cool, and the Verizon network is light years ahead of Sprint's, just the 3G comparison is is like an NHL team playing a little league club. Totally destroys it.
The nexus phones are always over hyped, especially the prime had some crazy rumors.
I'm sure people are disappointed it wasn't everything it could have been
The pros of the nexus are the screen, nfc, and the Google support/development. Everything else is comparable or worse than the GS2, like the gpu, cameras, battery.
Also I like the att variant more than all the others mostly because its the right size and has NFC (I think)

Given how neck-and-neck these devices are with each other on most fronts and there is an extreme case of one-is-better-here and other-is-better-there...umm...what I'm saying is I have no idea which position is supposed to be the obvious one that some of us are in denial of.
SGS2 is faster. The GNex is 720p. The Gnex has ICS. The SGS2 will have ICS. Gnex camera is faster, SGS2 camera is more detailed. The screen size is effectively the same. The sub-pixel count is completely 100% identical. GNex gets more pixels. SGS2 gets more sub-pixels per pixel.
The fact that the Gnex has LTE is irrelevant...of course it does, it's a flagship device on Verizon. We get unlimited data...of course we do, we're on Sprint.
Which device is obviously better, to you? I'm seriously considering buying one, tonight...right now, actually, and I would love a compelling case for the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon, but, try as hard as I may I can't come up with one myself.

The hardware is amazing, but the data speeds increase is night and day. I've been researching carriers in my area for about a month and a half now and Verizon had consistently more coverage and faster data speeds.
I had the GSII and I actually like the design of that phone better. But overall I like the Galaxy Nexus a lot better.
Not to mention I get 20 percent off my data part of my plan and then 19 percent off my entire bill, 25 percent off accessories and I was able to snag an extra battery with external charging kit bundled with the phone. Gotta love employer discounts. I'll end up paying less with Verizon than I ever did with sprint, with usable data.

For you then it's a no brainer to go to Verizon with those kinds of discounts. But for most moving from Sprint to Verizon would be a costly venture, higher monthly payments on Verizon, pay ETF for leaving Sprint, buy the new Nexus + accessories.
If I had the extra cash to burn I might think about, mainly for the network, Sprint just sucks so bad for crappy speeds, 3G is like 1x speeds. I sure hope Sprint does indeed improve their network next year like they say, because I will leave for sure when contract is up if we still keep getting these dial up modem speeds.
But just as a device, the Sprint Galaxy SII is AMAZING and AWESOME, I LOVE this device, great screen...killer long battery life...very fast and zero lag whatsoever..great development community here...I can only see one maybe two hits against the Sprint Galaxy SII, #1 the network sucks, and #2 no ICS yet, but that's it. But once a full stable ICS ROM is out this phone will probably be a bit smoother and faster than the Galaxy-Nexus.
My friend just got one and i played around with it some today. I am not blown away by the screen as I though I would be, yes it is better than GSII but not by that much. Can't beat vanilla android but I'm not crazy about the colors of ICS it feels very cold and plain...to each his own. Plus, we will get ISC anyways and somebody will have a rom that gets rid of TouchWiz. The quality feels much better than GSII but thats mainly because of the weight. I prefer the lighter GSII. Its a bit bigger than GSII which I hate I already think GSII is to big. Finally, I'm not sure about this but isn't GSII processor better the what the nexus has, I think with the improvements of ICS the GSII will be quicker than Nexus.
Its a great phone and I actually believe in sprint's network vision plans. If they don't make it happen, I will be up for a new contract then, I can either go back to my work provided BB or change carriers. Rocking this phone but roaming to verizon.......
Both phones have their merits for sure. I got the chance yesterday and today to play with the Nexus and it's a great phone I honestly love it and Android 4.0 in my humble opinion is beautiful. I do agree with the battery life but I kinda figured it would not be as good going in seeing that every LTE device I've seen and used has had very poor battery life compared to the other phones I've used.

Gman what are your speeds when you roam on Verizon? Also won't Sprint eventually kick you out? lol
As i stated in the verizon prl thread i go from crappie to less crappie , seriously though, I only get about 250-300ish/kbps on sprints latest prl, on verizon i can achieve anywhere from 400's-7xx's +. I only roam when out and about, at home or near wifi, stay on sprints network.

This phone is very smooth. The whole OS is very different, some people are *****ing about it over in the GN section, but I actually like it. This change is good. And if anybody says the screen is worse than other screens because it's pentile, they are full of crap and haven't looked at the screen in person, because it looks damn good.

I had my ETF waived by Sprint Retentions, I just have to return my airave, which I don't mind doing since I won't have Sprint anymore. I pull over 1 meg download over Verizon 3G everywhere I go, more often its over a meg and a half. Where on Sprint in the same locations I wouldn't even pull 300 kb/s. I know Sprint is going to get better, I just don't want to pay for a service for 2 more years before I see any difference.
Now Sprint 3G in Charlotte? Over 2 mb/s, really unbelievable, I never would have thought I would have seen those speeds on Sprint 3g anywhere. Columbia, SC? Forget it, 300 kb/s or less.
Now I'm just waiting for Sprint stock to go back up to 2.91 where it was last month lol and then sell, wait for it to drop and buy again.

I'm just wondering here...because with all my other phones (well, other android phones. I really really liked the HTC Arrive. Don't sleep on WP7.5 folks) I would use them for a little bit and then have that urge to go out and buy another phone...but with this phone, that sht is gone. I don't even want to root the damn thing. I don't want to add any custom sht or anything. It's all perfect out of the box (for me, I know some of you guys are having issues and I hope y'all can get that sorted out ASAP).
I seriously think that this phone is the best thing out there. I'm at 20.5 hours unplugged with 25% battery left...surprisingly, my phone idle is at 5%...Display, Internet, and music are the highest...this phone lasted a night at my job which consists of heavy 3G use and music playing for about 4 hours straight. Samsung is legit.
The only phone I'm watching is the prime. That's only if it comes to Sprint though. Don't have Verizon where I live. Other than that I feel the same way.

I agree. This is hands down the best phone I have ever had. I can see myself using this for 2 years and being happy. Even with the prime supposedly coming out, we don't know if sprint is getting it anyway. The only upgrade I could see would be the HD screen it's suppose to have, but, that would not make me jump out and buy it. Most of the upcoming things they are talking about, quad core and things like that is overkill for a phone IMHO. I would rather they focus on battery improvements and gpu upgrades, and just making the android os run as smooth as possible, better music player, and making sure android apps are properly made and not battery hogs.
I have no interest in rooting this phone, I might once it get's better, I miss some rooted apps, titanium backup, cache cleaner, and free tethering, but I don't need to root and I never thought I would say that.
i have 3 upgrades between now and next september, so i can guarantee i will be trying the next few devices regardless. i do think the et4g is the best overall device i have ever owned, but still has a crappy radio, which for all intents and purposes spoils a top notch cpu/gpu combo

The radio is a standard Samsung so-so radio. Complete crap when compared to my EVO4G and even my LG Lotus which still gets almost full bars where I am (and the EVO4G never saw full bars and the ET4G is seeing only 1 or 2 less than that). Even considering the relatively weak radio it still is a solid performer with less signal.
...as opposed to the 3 EVO3D's I went through. Talk about useless radio. Sure, it can do EVDO rev.B but what does that matter if you can't get a decent signal and lock on to a tower for more than a few seconds at a time?
Honestly, I think lower radiation (and lower signal strength) radios is just the new way for some absurd reason. Even though the meter reads roughly the same as my Moment (shudder) did it doesn't have any actual problems (data lockups, grrr).
But, yes, aside from that I agree. This phone is amazing. I'm rooted but I'm not going ROM crazy like I usually do. I'm still flashing things all the time on my NookColor (between CM7 and MIUI), and that's only minor revisions....but I feel no need, unlike my HTC devices. Though I think the fact that they ship with Sense on them makes getting as close to AOSP as possible much more urgent. As it stands I've torn out all of touchwiz and aside from a few extremely small hardware specific tweaks (screen mode, etc) and very minor aesthetic decisions we are as close to stock android as we could really ask for. Until we have a pure AOSP base and/or Cyanogen and MIUI I don't actually have a need to do any heavy modifications (besides root and screen density adjustment).
Though, I am getting the Nexus Prime for certain. I just hope the huge screen size can compensate for how much I hate 16:9.
EDIT: I can't believe I forgot fncking lock screen...that hideous thing. Have we found a way to put the stock Android pull-tab lock screen in yet or a 100%-perfect method of using alternate lock screens without this one popping back up again in addition to the aftermarket lock?

I'll be hopping to the next phone if/when Sprint get a good LTE phone + network. I'm guessing in the next 12-18 months.

So far as I know they are getting the Samsung Galaxy Prime...since it won't be a Nexus device they can go right ahead and fill it up with bloaty crap and lock down any standard features that compete with their own service offerings.
The Google Nexus Prime (manufactured by Samsung) is a different phone....even though it's likely the same exact phone.
I've had Evo 3D (not 4G) and this side by side since day 1, and it's far from complete crap in comparison. Speedwise both running on 4G, Epic runs little circles around the Evo. Call volume is much better on the Epic also.
I'm fortunate in that I don't lose signal....or very rarely.
Remember early days of 4G?...took a lot of tweaking and radio updates to solidify signal strength.

Well, when I say complete crap I am referring to the measured signal strength. The actual real world performance of my OG Evo was pretty much on par with my ET4G. That's where the E3D just couldn't compete.
IRT Early 4G, well, we still haven't been officially announced as having 4G even though there is a tower a mile away. Unless they we are lumped in with "Hartford" which is a good 15 miles away. I guess we are part of the greater metro area.
I've gotta admit, Being with Sprint has been a fun, if very bumpy (at times) ride. I can only hope that we're about to have another great stretch of fantastic service...cuz it's deteriorating rapidly at this point.
I've gotta dig up my first Sprint PCS phone. A Samsung that looks like an out of date cordless phone. Last I turned it on it got a better signal (maxed out the entire time) than any of my other phones....though, It's likely measuring 2G. That phone was so futuristic looking when I got it...and TINY compared to my previous motorolas...
The galaxy III.
I wouldn't head to verizon for the prime but if it came to sprint I may try it out but it really has to wow me.

It won't be the nexus on verizon. They will get it but it is called the droid prime. If they also make it as the nexus prime it will be either sprint or att.

Ran both the GSII and the E3D for two weeks side by side. GSII went back. I'll be getting the E3D for the wife's upgrade and we'll stick with that til the next big thing drops. No real complaints with the GSII, it just didn't offer much more than I already have with the 3D. Bigger screen, blacker blacks, and slightly better camera. The difference in cameras was very slight and the fact that the GSII doesn't do 3D more than makes up for that difference. Plus the wife straight up chose the 3D so....
I should be eligible for a full upgrade next spring, possibly when LTE phones are getting ready to come out

Full Disclosure: I was waiting months for the 3D and went through 3 of them and it broke my heart to have to give up on the phone (because of the radio). I so wanted to love that phone.
With that said I had a lot complaints about the 3D...one of them wasn't the camera, but, umm, "a little better" camera? I'm sorry, I wish I could agree with you, but, the ET4G camera is effin' lightyears beyond that 'pretty good for a cellphone' 2 back cams on the 3D. Acceptable? Damn right, great and detailed if you could deal with clicking the button and guessing when in the next 4 seconds it would take the picture... Anything to write home about? Not at all. But compared to the ET4G camera is simply absurd.
...though the 3D function cannot be debated. The 3D was really cool for that.
I've been more than happy with the Epic Touch after coming from the OG Epic. This is the first smartphone that's given me over 10 hours with some heavy use. I can't see myself switching anytime soon, it's just too good of a device. Perfect size, more than enough power, gorgeous screen, stellar camera and beyond excellent battery life... I'm good.

I'd say it depends on a few factors. What phone you're coming from, as some ppl might see a big increase in performance/functionality and others not as much. If you're willing to spend a lot to purchase it outright in the US (I'm assuming US cuz you said lot of money) and what carrier/service you'll put it on.
I received mine last night and am very happy with it. I was using an EVO 3D on Sprint prior. I feel it is a minor upgrade from the EVO 3D as performance wise they were both fairly quick, but I really do like ICS.
Price wise, it cost a ton of money and I would say that is the biggest limiting factor for me, personally.
Carrier/service wise, I set it up on Tmo ($30 a month, 100 min and unlimited data) which I don't receive a signal for at home and at work, the signal is pretty good but the data speeds are slow. I previously had though Sprint was pretty slow, but Tmo is much slower where I'm at.
Not as big of a deal as I don't make phone calls often and am usually on WiFi, home & work.
The other main driving factor for me was there are no discount plans I've seen on Verizon as that is the only carrier guaranteed to get the Galaxy Nexus in the next month. The only other option to get the Galaxy Nexus in the US within the next month or two would be to get the unlocked GSM version. This is definitely based on my personal speculation from articles/news I've read and previous release patterns for Google devices.

Im coming from HTC Hero (slow as ****), so it'd be a major upgrade for me. I'm on 20€/month with unlimited data, unlimited sms and 100 minutes of talking and since I'm living in Berlin I always have 3g. So that's not the problem.
I'm scared of the battery life... HTC Hero lasts 3-5 days and the new smartphones (eg the sensation of a friend lasts 1 day) are empty after a day

If you are on T-Mobile or AT&T already as a customer, and have a good plan which you want to keep, there is the option of buying from Expansys or another importer. For this, you'll get the European version which is pentaband and can work with both these networks.
The catch is you'll have to pay about $700+ for an unlocked, full usable phone. It is not subsidized, and some reports on the net suggest that these carriers won't get it until next spring. That's what I and many others have done that are reporting they already have a SGN. Most of us feel it is worth it, since the phone is so good.

I ordered mine from clove technologies in the UK last week and received it yesterday. I was using an HTC sensation on T-Mobile , and as specs are similar, the nexus blows it away by how optimized the software is for the hardware. Someone in a post before me hit the nail on the head, this reminds me of exactly why I love android. Great phone , you won't be disappointed.

Hop calibration of the battery will make it better, or i'll sell it and by an HTC like i always have in the past.
I get 15 - 25 hours of use on the battery, depending on how I use it. Nice!

Considering my previous phone was a Samsung Vibrant, the GNex is a great improvement. I finally have a working GPS and this phone will get timely updates. The screen is excellent. ICS 4.0 is very smooth. 4.0 takes a little bit getting used to but thats the beauty of being an early adopter. Battery life is better. For me it is anyway. I ran CM 7.1 on the Vibrant and battery life was horrible. The Vibrant could have been a much better phone but i mostly blame Tmobile for that. Ive said it before that i will never again get locked into a carrier branded phone as long as i can help it.
Just got mine last night. I think the screen is beautiful, ICS is nice, but takes a little bit getting used to. My wi-fi seems quite slow downloading stuff for some reason. I get better speed on 3G. Not sure what's up.
Also, it's kinda choppy when going between the apps and home screen back and forth. Everyone was raving how fast and smooth ICS was... not impressed so far. My SGS2 seems smoother...
Cell and wi-fi signals seem a bit weaker than my SGS2.
Can't get facebook to sync with my contacts at all... not sure what I need to do...
So overall, it's still a beautiful phone and I'm gonna keep it, but I guess I had really high expectations from reading all the reviews, and I was a bit disappointed...
If anyone knows any fixes especially for syncing with facebook, let me know

Before the nexus i was using the Galaxy S1 for almost a year and the last month a iPhone 4s (which i got from work). Now i have a new love and its called Nexus.

Yeah , you are right. The battery is my only gripe about this phone . It drains a little too quickly for my liking. I'm going to buy a spare battery with the wall charger offline to be able to rotate between the two. Hopefully the new has a little bit more juice. Has anyone found any extended batteries for the GSM version yet?

At first I did not. So much so I traded my first GN away. The sheer size combined with other mentioned drawbacks had me dump it as fast as I could. I moved on and I remember groping in my pocket and thinking why is my phone so small? It just sort of grows on you and it sat rustling in the back of my brain. Ordered one the next day. This is now my daily driver. Once you embraced the quirks of stock it really does grow on you. The size is still a bit big for my taste but:

Some people just nitpick themselves into misery. There are always lemons (amoled screens, esp) in mass produced phones, but I feel like the Nexus is getting a rep that they are ALL like that. Its simply not true. There are issues, sure, but they can pretty much be remedied by software.
I've had this phone since the Verizon release and love everything about it except the radios (GPS and cell). It really showed up this weekend as I was in Northern Minnesota snowmobiling in some really bad reception areas. I normally use My Tracks to map our route and the GPS was constantly loosing it's lock and the map looked like a dotted route instead of a nice solid route. Also, my time without signal was around 58% when my brother and my old Droid X2 was only about 12%. Being that I love doing outdoor things in sketchy signal areas, I'm really hoping they fix the radio in the next build.
I have no issues with battery life, screen quality, overall size though. I love this phone and just wish that Samsung would buy Moto for their radio chips (although they aren't perfect either, but better than HTC and Samsung in my experience).
I also don't think I could go back to a phone without on screen buttons.
Yea this phone has it faults just like all phones do but its still a great phone

I agree, Despite any of the flaws, i have gone threw roughly a dozen Android Handsets, from the G1, to G2x, Droid Razr, Sensation just to name a few. I even had the Galaxy S, which i HATED! But everything about this phone is amazing. Like any other device, it has its flaws (Battery compromised because of the HD screen) but overall, its completly open source, you can customize it to your exact liking, and runs like a beast.

I love my Nexus. People who nitpick haven’t been around the block as much as I have. After you’ve owned a myriad of other phones you truly appreciate the beauty and simplicity of the Nexus. Here's what I’ve been through over the past 2 years:
1) Samsung Capitivate – Terrible GPS and slooowww updates. Did I mention really bad GPS, like 200 yards off bad GPS..
2) HTC Inspire 4G – Good phone, terrible screen in the daylight, AT&T’s network.
3) HTC Thunderbolt – Sigh, extended battery was a brick, botched GB/voicemail update (what?, you left me a voicemail, when???). Spotty GPS and 4G issues.
4) Droid Bionic – Locked bootloader with no unlock in sight (I think). Screen and Moto blur started to annoy me.
I’ve only had my Nexus for a few days but I’m NOT going back to the above. Maybe I would feel differently if this was my first Android phone but it wasn’t. Other than battery life I have no complaints worth talking about. This phone stays until the next Nexus is released, period!
Ive had sprint for years, and recently got out of my ETF because of their new discount policy. I switched to att just to get the Galaxy Nexus unlocked on their hspa+ network and it has been amazing so far. Sprint has such a long way to go to even begin their LTE launch. So sad to see the leader of 4g technology take a big dump on the wireless industry
Had sprint for years until their 3g and lol 4g got over sold. Left for AT&T and couldn't be happier. Have 5 lines with AT&T and moved my last odd line from sprint to Verizon for the nexus and again, night and day service difference.
Funny thing is my Verizon costs are the same as sprint. Texting through google voice and I use grooveip for calls when my minutes get low. 4gb of data is plenty for me especially when it actually works. Most of my sprint speed tests were measured in fractions of a mbit. Usually sub 150 kbs. Pathetic. They can keep their premium data add on

+1 on this. Coming from HTC I was very skeptical about Samsung and their plastic and the 'less good' GPU. But everything else is so got damn great about this phone that the plastic and GPU doesn't bug me anymore . I'm sure I'll keep this phone until the next nexus is out .

Not me, since we probably won't see lte here before the next ice age it isn't a factor in my phone choice. I like the overall size of the E4GT, learned the hard way going from EVO 4G to EVO 3D that longer/narrower isn't better for the way the phone feels in your hand.
No doubt e4gt is better phone but unlimited lte speed I am up for it.

Yes this may be sprints first LTE phone how many cities have sprint LTE. If you want 4g might be better holding off until late this year/early next for better LTE support and stick with WiMax for now.
Also as other have said the epic touch is a better phone. Better rear camera, faster processor, better gpu, battery lasts longer on WiMax vs. LTE. The only advantages of the galaxy nexus is slightly larger screen (at that size could be a con), LTE support, and better custom rom support.
So overall I would say the epic touch is a nicer phone.

thanks for harshing my buzz over your sigs with the mention of the IBone...
have an upgrade now, but defiantly going to wait for 4 cores. Hopefully the next "Nexus" inst too far away. Im sure well have all the roms proper soon enough: MIUI, CM9, AOKP. There almost all ready as is.
Though I cant possibly Imagine what that much power is for in a phone considering our e4gt underclocked to 500mhz still runs like a dream.

Having had the Nexus S 4G and living with it's absolutely terrible speaker quality and generally weak volume (missed calls due to low volume and weak vibrate, using the speakers for YouTube or online videos was a waste of time) and terrible radio to boot, it's a wonder that it's the same Samsung that makes the NS4G and the Epic Touch.
The Epic Touch is night and day compared to the NS4G specifically in the areas of audio, speaker quality and volume.
Having prefaced with all that, i'm skeptical about the Galaxy Nexus as well. First off, the camera is not good, some VZW users have said. I have read some posts talking about low speaker quality, basically the speakers are not loud at all (same issue i found with the NS4G). At least Sprint's version is 32GB storage (negates whining about expansion slot a bit).
I'll have to play with it in person first before deciding. Epic Touch is plenty fine and functioning very well for me right now.

The HD screen on the nexus alone makes the jump worth it IMO. You are still right though. It's going to take a while for sprint lte to mature.

I dont know if I made the right decision...should I have went with the Epic 4g Touch instead? Or waited for the Evo 4g LTE? I hate making big purchases like this, I always get buyer's remorse
You made good choice I am on Verizon so I can't tell you about Sprint's service but 4G should improve a lot for sprint.
I like having it rooted and getting all the updates my friend who has stock is still on 4.0.2 on Verizon he is with me on family plan though hopefully at least sprint does better job =]
What are you regretting? You have a phone that is almost top of the line (Dual instead of Quad core, really not that big of a deal). That will be getting the latest Android releases weeks (Or days) after release compared to months or years. Finally, a phone that will have dev support for it's entire life compared to phones that will only be relevant for maybe a year.
Why do you have buyers remorse about? Is there something you dont like about the phone before you have received it? The GN is a great phone that most love. If you like custom firmware you cant have a better phone or group of devs than this device.
I have a dont reason, I just always second guess myself when I buy a phone. Im coming from an OG Evo and I did the same thing with it but ended up loving it. Ive read so many good things about the epic 4G Touch, I almost went with it but went with the Nexus because its newer...just hoping I made the right decision. Cant wait to get my hands on it and get it rooted.
This phone out performs the touch. And the evo has broken multitasking. This is a great phone. You really can't go wrong with this phone... seriously.

I personally think you made the right choice, remember you have a week with the phone to decide if you like it or if you dont. I bet you will.
I was also second guessing this or the Evo but here are some reasons I took the gnex over the Evo.
1. NO F'ING removable battery. This is a must if I have to endure using it for at least two years. Batteries degrade and it would be useless a year in.
2. LCD not an amoled. I don't like LCD they don't produce colors like our phone and blacks as well. Regardless of everyone saying its good... they must be blind.
3. Sense 4.0 no explanation needed... sense is retarded.
4. Google support. Although limited (cdma) this phone will still receive faster updates.
5. Rootabliltiy. It was soo easy to root and your not limited. For HTC the only way to unlock is to void warranty and even then... you have to worry about hboot versions. No thanks. You may void warranty by unlocking this phone but you can always relock it nor use an exploit to root without unlocking.
All in all this phone is the obvious choice.

I'm tired of having almost no bars most of the time.
I went from Sprint and the Epic 4G Touch to Verizon and the Galaxy Nexus. I do not regret either move.
Was the E4GT a good phone. Sure was. Is the Galaxy Nexus a better phone. Sure is. There is nothing to regret about the GNEX and I would not buy a phone today on Sprint that is not LTE.
I am sure Sprint will one day change their data plans and go to tiered data when people switch to LTE phones. If you get in now with unlimited LTE, you should at least be safe until you complete your contract. Then at that point they will either allow you to grandfather it because you already have an LTE device or they can pull what Verizon will be pulling.....
Also, why buy a phone with Wimax when Sprint no longer building it out. What you see is what you get. Nothing improving on that end.
Only other phone I would even look at for comparison is the SGS3. Then it comes down to Pure ICS or Touchwiz. Either way, you will still end up with a great phone.
One thing I can say with owning a GNEX is I don't feel the need to purchase every new phone announced which is a big thing compared to every other phone I have owned. There is something about owning a Nexus device that makes you not care what other phones have.....Really cannot explain it but you need to own one to understand.
Only thing I wished was the GNEX had the camera from the SGS2. Then this thing would be perfect but, in this world nothing is perfect so you need to settle to the closest thing!
You won't regret it. I switched from the Sprint E4GT to the VZW GNex and haven't regretted either move at all. Like eman3316 said, I have not wanted to rush out and buy every new phone on the market since owning the GNex, which is something I can't say for any other device I've owned including the Nexus S. I always wanted the next better phone to come out, but I no longer spend unnecessary money on unnecessary phones.
I don't understand people on this thread at all. Yes I definitely love my Nexus but I'd much rather have the EvoLTE. I'll give you some reasons why you shouldn't have gotten the Nexus and maybe you can rethink.
1. AMOLED screen. Amazing right? Eh...not anymore. I've had two replacements, the first of which had awful banding and a purple tint at low brightness. Also, the image of the status bar and keyboard were permanently burnt into the screen. While the screen is sharp, it definitely can't best the new Evo due to its full RBG matrix. The colors are uneven and look "dirty" at low brightness. A post on the first page said that color reproduction was better?? Nope, more saturated but not better. AMOLED used to be touted as power efficient but with this huge screen it is the opposite. These reasons are why the EvoLTE wins the screen comparison.
2. Camera...not much to say here. The camera on this thing absolutely blows. My girlfriends OG Evo takes better shots. I think the camera on the 4S still has a slight advantage over any other Android handset but the EvoLTE is right up there and could probably be improved with new software releases.
3. While the CPU/GPU combo isn't by any means slow, the S4 is faster by a mile and is more power efficient. It handles the 720p resolution like a champ. Whenever I go back to stock 4.0.2 my Gnex definitely has hiccups and lags compared to my current setup.
4. Due to CDMA licensing, Samsung has crappy software for CDMA radios. Everyone talks about how a new software update or radio will help but it never does. Its no use, Samsung just has crappy radio support. If you like dropped connections and fluctuating signal then the Gnex is for you.
Now I seem to hate the Gnex huh? Not really. I'm just simply stating the truth and that I believe the new Evo is a better investment. If the Gnex was $99 that would be a different story. Quick software updates can be nice but I'm on Verizon so I don't know what that's like.

Like eman3316 said, I have not wanted to rush out and buy every new phone on the market since owning the GNex, which is something I can't say for any other device I've owned including the Nexus S. I switched from the Evo 3D to the VZW GNex...at first I wasn't sure if I really wanted to switch from Sprint...but once I got onto the LTE network...those doubts QUICKLY went away. I thought about getting the Sprint GNex...but the loss of 4G for an extended period of time didn't sit well with me, especially since Sprint's 3G network practically sucks.
I can see that being the only drawback of getting it on Sprint.

1. This amoled... needs tweaking... when the rgb and gama are tweaked in ROMS it is perfect... i have perfected it anyways... i do agree this amoled is off. But that LCD is crap... i dont like blacklit things... my LCD tv has two giant burn ins so it doesnt just happen to amoleds.
2.This camera is f'ing amazing.. your f'ing blind... go check out the post pictures from your gnex thread... your jaw will drop. The og evo... no just no...
3. UM what? Duh what do you expect... this phone is not built for preformance it is meant for openess... having a closed architecture processor such as the S4 is pointless just wait... it will be 6 months before that thing sees the light of day of the next android version. Where it will be sitting on our front door when it comes out.
4. I dont agree... this is all on location... if you live in a place that is known for crappy service then yes it will drop more than other phones. If you live in a place with "normal" signal then you have nothing to worry about.
The gnex is the better phone all around... the HTC is for the fanboys of HTC not us.
I definitely understand what you coming from the evo LTE is a good looking device but sense kills it for me plus having own evos in the past besides group they take like 8 months to release the new updat and ain't detailing with that anymore plus stock ICS is the best OS yet for android and jellybean will be game changer and unless you wanted 6-8 months later go for the evo the camera in this phone is just right I take pics only for sharing on Facebook to my family and there good enough sure is not the best but look at the pluses on this phone
