If I were to leave my phone on without using it, it would die in about 10 hours. Is this normal? It's been like this since stock. I don't think this is normal since my G2 had way better stand-by time.
Please, don't say it has something to do with your settings and stuff, because I had the same things turned on with the same apps on my G2 with way better Stand-by time. GPS and Auto-backup.
Im running bone stock. I recharged after 38 hrs. And still had a 30% chg left
These were 14 hrs after complete chg.

See? This is what I'm not getting. Even since stock my Standby time was horrible. So I rooted to get better battery life. Nothing is changing. I even did a battery calibration to see if the phone was just reading the battery wrong.
I have another question. After the phone is finished charging at 100%, as soon as I take it off the charger, it goes down to 99%. Is that normal? I thought the phone was supposed to stay charged at 100% for a little while.
I just unplugged mine from complete charge and as soon as I unplugged it went to 99. So, yes????

That is normal to drop to 99% immediately. I always charge to full before I go to sleep at night and for some reason if I leave wifi on, the drain is really low when not in use...

Ok. I have no idea what is going on, but my phone just randomly rebooted, froze and then reset my home screen replacement launcher (as if I hit set to default), and now when I went to check on the battery usage and this is what I get:
Android OS is now at about 2% along with other things.
Display is at about 50%.
This is new. Android OS used to ALWAYS be higher then display. That didn't make since.
Now things are different. It seems the display is using the most energy. That is normal. I expect that.
I don't know, but it seems that everything is back to normal. I am using the phone, so I'm expecting this battery drain, but I'll check to see how much battery is drained on stand-by when I go to work later on today.

If you want your phone to last you throughout the day, make sure that "Use Wireless Networks" in Settings -> Location is unchecked. That is the biggest battery guzzler this phone has next to 4G and Brightness. My battery loses 2% all night til I wake up (Thats 8 Hours!!)

I figured it was a Samsung thing. I leave GPS off if that's what you mean, but location services stay on. That's just a me thing.
///////////////////////////
Today after work, I lost 30% energy on standby. That's alright with me. It was about 6 hours of straight standby time. It seems to have gotten better. At times I'd lose at least half of my battery after at least 5 hours.
I don't know how the phone seemed to fix itself, but doing things doesn't just DRAIN the battery anymore. I was playing on the phone fixing my home screen launcher and my battery wasn't dying right in my face. I lost like 2% after having the screen on for about 20 minutes fixing up my settings compared to seeing 5+% in like 10 minutes.
I am satisfied.

Lol, your battery didn't fix itself, that sounds like somethings wrong with the battery cycle. Maybe you need to recalibrate it.
You see, sometimes if you overcharge a phone, especially when using a charger that isn't made for that specific phone (usually a charger thats too strong) it can throw of the charge cycle. Thus, it can take like 30 minutes to drop 50% and then another 3hrs for the other 50% (this is just an example). If you're rooted, I highly recommend doing a full battery calibration.
Secondly, the Use Wireless Networks thing in the location isn't really a samsung thing, i think of it more as a google thing. I noticed that when its on, Google is always sending information back to itself, thus keeping the phone awake longer. Thats why if you go to your graph, it show that your phone is awake more often then it should be. I personally uncheck it, because if i ever need it, I just quickly switch on the gps. Then turn it off when im done.Thats my recommendation to you. Yesterday, I personally got a full 24hr usage out of my battery, and it wasn't even all that light. I texted most of the day, made a few calls, browsed the web, and listened to music for a few hours on the subway. Pretty moderate usage.
See, I'm not exactly unhappy with my battery life... but seeing what other folks around here are getting MAKES me a little unhappy.
I mean, I went to bed at... I'll say around two AM last night at 90% battery. My audio book player ran for thirty minutes after that; woke up at about eleven AM, 53%. NOTHING CLOSE to what you folks are getting. All of the big culprits I've heard mentioned have been checked out, and I just calibrated, so I dunno where else to go with this.

That one is a big mystery to me. I always leave that setting on. I also have my sync on. My stock email is set at one hour and I get very little drain. Maybe it has to do with an app that uses Wireless Network location ..

Does anybody see anything unusual about my battery life?
My screen has basically been off, yet I'm still losing weird amounts of battery. Based on the hours, I took my phone off the charger at 4pm Dec. 04 (16:00) and it died at 6am (06:00) Dec. 05. That gap in WiFi was my time at work.
Those bars you see in display right before WiFi get's turned on is me texting and Facebooking. Apparently I wasn't using Facebook enough for it to actually get a place in my battery usage.
And of course those two little bars in the red was my phone telling me that it's dying. Too bad I was sleep.
Ignore the rise after the fall. That's it charging of course.
Also, if you notice, my WiFi apparently wasn't using anything to get a place as well. Those are all the apps that were listed. Why isn't WiFi there?
I calibrated my battery twice already. I can calibrated it again since it fully died. Let me make sure I understand how to calibrate it.
ROM: ACS Syndicated Ice
Kernel: LoS Kernel
1) Phone charged to 100%
2) Phone dies
3) Charge phone to 100%
4) CWM and wipe battery stats
That's what I do to calibrate it.

Add a 5th step which is using the battery calibration app from the market. Also, uncheck wireless networks from location settings (huge battery hog). I assume that's probably your biggest problem. Then, if you are rooted, do what I did, which is get a root explorer and go into system>apps, and move the social hub.apk and media hub.apk to a folder on your SD. It will essentially uninstall it. Those 2 apps are battery hogs as well even if you have never used them. They will always run in the background. Try those and lemme know if it helped.

Wireless network location settings is also mainly used by Google to send them data about your usage. I noticed a significant decrease in battery life whenever this is checked. I would rather just turn on my GPS whenever I need it than keep this function on at all times. Its just not worth it in my book.

What's-up Epic4GT Community... Quick question, my battery will suddenly go from 70% to 20%. It is not always at 70% when it drops, it will happen at various percentages. I have attempted to calibrate/wipe battery stats with no avail. Could it be kernel related? Rom related? Bad battery? Any help with my issue would be much appreciated. Thanx!
wiping battery stats has been proven to do nothing. it does sound like a bad battery to me. have you tried using betterbatterystats and cpu spy to see what the problem is?
Does this happen after your phone reboots or in some other fashion turns off then back on, or while the phone is awake?
Right on patrao thank you for the response... Downloading betterbatterystats to see if I can narrow down the problem.

It seems to happen sometimes after a reboot or when simply awakening phone. Usually happens when it hits around 60%... My device will be in sleep mode, then when I go to use it, will notice that the battery has dropped 40%. Havent seen it drop while the phone is awake though.
Had the same issue when I first got mine. I was able to "fix" it by draining completely, wiping battstats, then charging full again. Haven't had the problem since UNLESS I'm using a non-stock battery.
In that case it will do it from time to time. Haven't found resolution for that case yet.

I have a similar problem! Whenever I do a battery pull, then boot back up, I lose anywhere from 10-60% of my battery. I've gone through two batteries and two phones with the same problem.

This is the same thing that would happen to me. Also like others have said are you sure your phone isnt rebooting? When this happens go to about phone, status and check the up time. When I first rooted my phone it would reboot all the time without me knowing. Honestly sometimes up to 10 times a day. I flashed it back to stock and re rooted using the latest method and now my phone has rebooted once in about 3 months. I have a feeling the first time I rooted something went wrong somewhere because now my phone is running better than ever and rock solid stable!

Another thing I should note is I noticed you are running the fb21 modem. That modem was nothing but pure hell on my battery watching it drain the battery was like watching a minute hand on the clock. I would get maybe 6 hours of moderate use. Switch to the fb15 modem and see if that helps. With fb 15 my battery life has been incredible.
Right on fellas thank you for your responses...
Same problem I had. Issue fixed itself maybe because I let the battery drain. Another fix I found was rebooting restored lost %...
This seems to be an inherent problem in certain Samsung builds. My old OG Epic would do this all the time after a reboot. This one would do it at first... but I have never had the problem on el29. When I tried out fb17 with the fb15 modem it came back. And it was always after a reboot. What was funny is that my battery percentage would climb without being on the charger after a plummet like that. I tend to think it is a kernel issue, with it not grabbing the correct percentage during boot.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
I also have this issue. It happens randomly when I restart or do a full power shut down. It is very annoying and doing a battery pull does not bring it back up. Its frustrating having to plug your phone in when you had 60-80% battery life left b4 the shut down
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
I let my phone completely die last night because I wanted to get a full charge on this thing. I wake up this morning, and after 4 minutes, it had gone down 4%. It has now been 7, and it's down 7%. Anything I can do?
PS, it is now down to 90%.
Running Calk's rooted FC15 with ics4ics theme and the lockscreen mod.
88% now.

Been on it since Sunday. Location services are not enabled. Yesterday I noticed it had gone down faster than before, battery only lasted just over 8 hours with minimal use, but the wifi kept disconnecting, as did the 3g when wifi was off (this didn't happen in gingerbread).
I wonder if I don't need a new battery. I have noticed battery performance getting worse and worse over the past couple weeks.

I would take your battery and have it checked at Sprint. They will replace it for free if it's bad. My battery gets better after a day or two. I lose 2-3% while asleep on wifi and regularly get 4-6 hours of screen on time depending on how I use my phone. Did you check your wifi sleep policy?

Check what accounts you have setup, and if anything is syncing.
Goggle+, dropbox, and other applications have auto picture sync options which will KILL your battery.
Also location services in google or westher applications, and as always poor signal or no signal.

Sync is always turned off.
Well, I tried something: pulling the battery for a minute, then when back in, plugging it into the charger. I would give me a false full battery light, because when I unplugged, it showed 90%, and it kept doing this every percentage point, so I kept unplugging and plugging until it showed 100%. Well, 10 minutes have past, and it hasn't budged. So I'm chalking this up to false battery stats.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Yeah, I was going to mention wiping the battery stats but I figured someone would say that does nothing. I always do it when I set up a new ROM even though some do it on install
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
How many apps do you have installed? Could be a rogue app in backround eating your battery up.
Also with wifi/3g constantly disconnecting also taxes that battery juice faster then a constant steady signal.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
FYI, I am having this same problem on the same ROM for the last couple days. I thought I had isolated it to a problem with having USB debugging running when charging from the computer but that's not it either. Last couple days battery is draining so fast that I lose charge while plugged in! Have to charge from wall plug to get an increase in battery. I am having Android OS AND Android System at the top of my battery stats eating 35% and 34% respectively. Clealry not due to syncing or email checks or anything similar as this is the exact same setup I have been running for months (other than the upgrade to Calk's ICS ROM). I'm baffled....
Install these 3 apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats
This app will tell you what is holding wake locks on your device. Anything over 30 minutes over the course of a day would be problematic imo. But it depends on what you have installed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bvalosek.cpuspy
This will tell you how much time your processor spends at each clock speed. Deep Sleep should be close to 80% with moderate use.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.WazaBe.android.BatteryDrain
This will show you your percent per hour usage of battery. It's optional, but it helps me debug battery use. Typically I run 3-6% per hour with moderate usage.

So it figures, downloaded those apps, rebooted the phone and now its not happening anymore. This has been the problem the last couple days, its intermittent so I keep thinking I've figured out what's wrong and then it happens again. I'm thinking about going back to Gingerbread or trying one of the AOSP roms to see if the problem persists...

Gonna have to disagree with you there, maybe you have a bad flash. I'm getting an average of 16 hours with fairly heavy usage. FC15 has been fantastic, no issues whatsoever.
Im having kinda the same problem. I just had to get my rooted phone replaced yesterday not that it matters it was rooted I had no roms or nothing on it just rooted at the time, but my battery was fine. I got a white one I havent rooted or nothing yet and battery is going fast. I kept the battery from the previous phone. I was looking through appbrain and seen the app "bad ass battery monitor" and my kernal is killing my battery as of today.
Argghhh Bricked it!
Tried going back to Gingerbread and hard bricked the phone! 5 years on android and four different phones and this is the first time I really truly bricked. Blue led on and not a thing else.
Well I guess getting a new phone is one way to get back to Gingerbread.... For now, I'm sporting a cutting edge Blackberry tour!
Why is this phone so easy to brick? I've had 4 other Android phones and I see more bricked posts for the e4gt than all the others combined...

Before the ICS leaks, this phone was virtually unbrickable. Once we get the ICS source and the recovery issues are sorted out it will be that way again. If you stay clear of wiping individual partitions and follow directions in OP you are safe

Mine has been horrible and have no idea why. I haven't changed apps or anything from previous installs or settings but Android OS loves to eat 50% of my battery which is a good 25% higher than normal.
I rooted my e4gt to blu kuban then to cm9 and back to stock due to the battery life was rediculously low. Any thoughts as to what's happening in the pictures..you see a gradually decline and then a sudden drastic drop in the battery level. any suggestions is appreciated. I bought it 2 weeks ago and the battery use to hold a good 19hr charge. BUUTTTT then if you look at the second picture its still holding at 20% after an hour for some reason like its not registering the full power. odd.
EDIT:
Actually if you backup your USB storage and SD card and then format both then go back to stock all is well. It seems that some temporary files are stored and when you flash over and over again it lingers around. best thing to do is format both usb and sd card before going to stock or after i havent tried it after but if u do it before you get on a clean slate. Battery life just like first day i got it ..im happy
it looks like you haven't let your battery settle yet. I've noticed it normally takes 1-2 days for your battery to settle and show you the proper usage.
The first day on a ROM always sucks for battery life.

Yea. it's a little crazy. I rooted my phone again and installed blu kuban with the update. It seems little better and at least sustainable. Of course its not stock battery life but till Source comes out for our phones i guess it will do. BluKuban is a great rom plus the updater is a bonus. Just updated my phone with some fixes...i ended up taking out the battery for an hour then put it back in and charge for a good 2 hours...it seems that all is well now. I dont have those sudden drops unless if im playing angry birds space or on it like crazy..

Thank you you were right..just had to let it settle then i did the battery bump thing with takin the battery out and all.Back on blu kuban and i love it
This happens quite often in a multitude of roms. It's a battery reporting issue. You don't actually lose all that battery. If you watch after it happens, your battery will go back up on it's own if it's off the charger.
Sent while hanging with that really hoopy frood Ford Prefect.
Always best to calibrate the battery after flashing me roms.if your using blu kuban reboot to recovery click wipe then click battery wipe and reboot.
Leave ICS and get back on GB.
Ive had this phone since the day it came out. Switched to ICS once the developers started dropping ICS leaks, etc.
For the past 2 weeks for some reason, Ive had nothing but HORRIBLE and i mean HORRIBLE battery life. Phone would not last me more than 4-5 hours of heavy use. I'd have to carry around my portable battery pack to charge the phone on the go. I did everything to my knowledge to try and conserve battery life. CPU tweaks, battery monitoring, tried different ROMs, Kernels, Modems, etc, etc. Nothing would significantly improve battery life. I even went ahead and ordered a new battery last week to remedy this problem (which has not yet been delivered/used)
2 Days ago I flashed back to Blazer 4.0 ROM (GB).
I unplugged my phone yesterday morning at exactly 7:30am. Did not step back into my house until 530 which at that point I was at 35% and had been using my phone all day as I normally would. Web browsing, tons of texts, Used Navigation for about 2 hours, etc. I did not plug my phone to the charger until 10pm. Phone was on 19% then. Mind you, this is on the first day of the Phone being on a new ROM/GB so the battery has not yet settled/calibrated as Its only been charged Once since flashing over.
I refuse to switch back to ICS for the sole reason that battery levels have obviously improved with something as simple as switching back to GB.
Just a heads up for anyone with ICS on their E4GT having issues with battery life.
If only I got a dollar for all the times a thread like this is made.. I'd be rich. Blah blah ICS sucks yes we know... So far my phone must be a super phone because it's handling ICS well.

I agree with you, Ray. I'd also be rich for every time I've read of E4GT owners who's phones are running ICS with no problems. But then theres the bunch who also complain that they have problems. I never stated ICS sucks. At this point these phones are old by today's standards. Be glad you're one of the ones who's running ICS with no issues. I for one will stay on GB until I switch to a new carrier/new hardware sometime soon.
Just thought I'd give some feedback of my experience with battery issues on ICS in comparison to then switching back to GB.
I don't know if you've tried Blazers ICS ROM, but that thing has some AMAZING battery life. I've been running it for a few weeks now, everyday I get at least 12 hours of moderate to heavy use, without my own tweaks, and by the time I connect to charger I'm at 35%
Arguments apart
i have a few friends all on this or that ICS and none of them is happy with the backup
whatever its a fact ICS goodness never really reached E4GT, lets hope FI03 onwards some sense prevails at those losers at sammy and they push something which we can smile about.
FYI i am also on ICS Rom , still in testing phase after getting my new white beast 10 days back , already tried like 3 , each for three days
running galaxy 1.8 since yday and hoping it shapes well otherwise i ll also move back to GB
I've tried multiple ICS rooms and I've always gotten great battery life (14+ hours with 3+ hours screen on time).
The only times I've ever had battery life issues were when a certain app was the culprit and was keeping my phone from deep sleep or causing frequent wakes, which is almost always the case with poor battery life issues.
Check out an app called GSAM Battery.. it will tell you what is using up your battery in easy to read graphs and percentages. Also, check out CPU Spy to see if your phone is actually going to deep sleep mode when you turn your screen off--again, it shows you in an easy to read chart with times in each state.

Cm9b1 is the only rom that even came remotely close to gb battery life. Only thing wrong it for me was I couldn't get GPS working

I got over 30 hours last weekend with light use, but the next day, my battery would drain 5 to 10 percent per hour with no use. I have all the utilities to track what's happening, but cannot find a definitive cause. Poor reception seems to be a factor, but not the whole story.
EDIT: I just installed GSam. Thanks for the tip!
Try the Re-Calked FI03 and tell me ICS sucks....this things is as good if not better than Calkulins v3 GB rom....the ONLY other rom i have ever liked.... :good:

Re-calked sucked! I got only 2hours on screen time without wifi and 3g? So wierd gave it 3 4 discharge cycles
What ever works guys. By now we all know what's better for your phone even if you don't want to admitte it.

Maybe you should've posted this after receiving and using your new battery. My phone had horrible battery life after a while on ICS but it turned out that it was in fact the battery and not ICS. Got a new battery and it is back to 18 hours a day (on ICS)

Only the stock ICS rom is garbage with poor battery life and stupid stuff like grey text on black back ground. I have ran several custom ROMs and they all provided better battery life. As I have said before, I got 99 problems but battery life ain't one of them. You must be doing it wrong.

Still waiting for the new battery to arrive. I would love to try it but I'm in the midst of a heavy usage of Verizon PRL on my phone. Sprint doesn't like heavy roaming users from what I've been reading. Sprint 3G in my neighborhood here in NYC sucks Donkey nuts. I can cross the street and get 3 bars more than I have sitting on my front porch. But thats a whole other topic of discussion.
Im not sure why my phone couldnt play well with ICS but it really was horrible. I consider myself a heavy user and ICS couldnt keep up with battery demands. I tried undervolting, etc. Oh well. Been eyeing the SGS3 or the upcoming SGNote 2. Time will tell.
So far 3 days on Blazer 4.0. All my apps are restored via TB and no issues with battery like I had on ICS. Don't really know what else to say. :good:
My phone would last a week on cupcake

I'm getting 24+ hours on standby time. I have gotten about 18 hours with about 3 hours of screen time. Facebook and GBA emus. I wasn't able to do this since GB. I have done this by doing one simple thing. Turning off data. I kid you not. Utilize that data toggle. I know at first you're thinking no I need data. But you don't. Unless you're some business person, then this excludes you. Wanna check Facebook?
Also, wii benefit from something else. 4G WiMax. You can turn that on even though your data is off. You still get decent battery life since 4GWiMx knows how to sleep. Also, if you're driving around, it'll pick up 4G eventually (unless you don't have it) and it'll download what it needs to download. So by time it turns loses signal, you'll have your emails. I tried this and I still got good battery life.
Using Battery Monitor Widget, I was able to see that my phone wasn't "sleeping". That's what the main problem was. That's why I wasn't able to find any rogue apps using Better Battery Stats. But I did see my phone stayed awake. Like once my phone died in 5 hours. 10 minutes screen time. 6 minutes of deep sleep. Really? That means my phone was awake for over 4 hours!? Doing what!? No app was at fault.
Extra stuff. No need to read if you felt you read enough
An app you all should check out...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...av_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNjYzcxLmJtdyJd
Battery Monitor Widget (It's not just a widget. LoL!!)
It tells you how many #mA your phone is using. So if it shows 500mA. That means your phone is using 500mA per hour. Your phone has an 1800mA battery. So that means if your phone used a constant 500mA, it would die in 3.5 hours. This is a good way to see just how much power your apps are using, or if after 10 minutes your phone is actually sleeping. My phone actually started using 2mA. I haven't seen that since GB. I thought my phone would never sleep like that again. I cried.
P.S. If you get the app, in settings -> Calibration, change the battery amount from 1500mA to 1800mA. Apparently the app thinks our battery is 1500mA. Or maybe my battery REALLY IS 1500mA. I mean, it got my Nexus 7 battery correct. I didn't have to change it. I've always wondered why BMW said I had a 1500mA battery instead of 1800mA. I may have to look into. Wii all should probably look into that.
Also, those on Blazer ICS ROM. Using BMW, I was able to see something quite interesting. My phone would use a lot of energy. Like 1000mA just to send some text messages, or scroll through my app drawer. BUT, after I stopped using my phone for about 10 minutes, I'd turn it back on and BMW would show my phone gaining #mA, or charging. This means something is causing the phone to "drain", or show drainage, when there really isn't. The fact that the phone charges back means it never really used that much energy in the 1st place. But that only happens on this ROM. Since I figured out the data thing, I'm going to try CM9 again.
