[Q] returning r800x user - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I recently received my R800x play back from insurance after a few months of not having it. I was wondering what I need to do to root it. I rooted my first one by unlocking the bootloader but browsing through the forums it looks like obtaining the code to do so is not possible? Also, I saw something about rooting with a locked bootloader. Does this still allow me to have a custom kernel so I can set the speed of the phone and such? Thanks in advance.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859 Make sure you have 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 (If verizon has released it), You can use Superoneclick or Dooms, I used Dooms, no issues, Works fine. (R800i Here)

OK, I'll give it shot. I know in the past the cdma play was a little different than the rest

Still is. You won't be able to flash a custom kernel.

****ty, so cm7 is out of the question?
Sent from my R800x using XDA App

Is there any way at all to unlock the bootloader? I really want a custom kernel so I can use cm7. I read somewhere about a paid method to do it.

Last I heard, your best bet was to pm that user. I'm sorry, their name escapes me.

Alejandrissimo. He has a site now, it's in his signature.

OK, thanks!
Sent from my R800x using XDA App

If you still have the unlock code, you can probably use it again I believe.
Sent from my R800x using XDA App

I have the unlock code but the R800x I have is not the same as the one before. What is the possible damage I could do by using that code? If incorrect would it brick my phone or simply fail to unlock?

[Q] Notification Toggles for R800x

Just curious if it's possible to put in a mod for notification toggles on the Verizon R800x, rooted, but with a locked bootloader running 2.3.3. I've come across a few for 2.3.4, but guessing those wouldn't be compatible.
Thanks for any responses.
I would love this too, but sadly after looking around everywhere, none are compatible with our R800x
I've been working on somthing like this. Expect it in the coming weeks

Below is a link to a thread that has some available, for the R800x. However if your running 2.3.3 they will not work.... but here is the link to the thread, i finally found it again.....
STATUS BAR WIDGET MOD
If someone knows how to modify them, I am sure they could work on 2.3.3. I however dont know how to do it.

OTA Rolling Out?

I looked at my brother's phone, the R800AT, and it had the update notification. I clicked it thinking ICS was here for him, and it checked for about ten minutes and said there is no update. Did anyone else get a notification?

There wont be ics ota updates.
Alright, I was just wondering since the notification popped up.

There WILL be. Just not for those with unlocked boot loaders and R800a/at/x users. R800i users must lock the boot loader again before updating.

I think sony specifically said updates will be through pc companion only.

My guess is that they're going to change the partition layout substantially and they can't do that OTA.

I stand by this
That might not have been ICS, possible 2.3.4. I think?

I am pretty sure the r800at still doesn't have 2.3.4 sadly.
The notification came up again, and did the same thing. I'm really wondering what this is.

[Q] WiFi hotspot att blocked any solutions?

I had a Samsung captivate before rooted and running cyanogen. I made proper use of the hotspot feature. The ion now has it stock but has to be unlocked by att calling 611. I'm not going to pay $60/m for a low tethering plan and lose my grandfathered unlimited plan.
Does anyone know of a workaround or is this going to be a root required thing?
Gloff
There might be some apps that you can use without rooting to tether like pdanet (haven't tried myself) but to use the built in feature will require rooting and some system changes.
Sent from my LT28at using Tapatalk 2
I thought that might be the case. If I can dig up some modem drivers I should be able to do a dial up connection through Windows.
Wow AT & T really are rubbish. I really annoys me when operators neuter the phone to make a quick pound....
If we can get the LT28i firmware we should be able to use it on our ions and it will allow the built in tethering though it might require changes to the APN. I'm trying to get that firmware from international users.
I have already provided a copy. It is in a thread in QA section of xperia S (back in the day when there was no ion forum) called xperia ion development status

With regards to what? We can flash the rogers or generic firmware just fine on our AT&T ions. The generic will allow us to use tethering without issue. Not sure on the rogers one.
Waiting for ICS so we can try some if the tricks the xperia s is using to root with a locked bootloader. Still no dice on creating a prerooted system image. But again that only works with an unlocked bootloader.

[Q] Custome rom for locked bootloader

Hey guys whats the best custom roms for a locked bootloader, i don't mean ICS roms, just what in your opinion on the best and why ie for gaming etc.

The NXT rom I mentioned can be flashed with a locked bootloader

Xperia Play 2.3.7 NXT
I would use NXT or TrueAncestor, I have used both and they are both great. NXT has a more modern theme, though

Does everything work properly? I've read about a lot of roms with something not working. E.g. data, mms, video recording, etc.

Tried that one a few months ago actually. Wasn't bad, except had an issue with my account being swapped for another one on an online game after flashing. Not sure how that happened. After I finally got that fixed with numerous emails to the game developer I flashed my old stock backup.
Sent from my R800x using xda app-developers app
Actually i think nxt 1.2 is both cdma and gsm at least for me i get to choose which one id rather use or if it should do it automatically
Xperia Play 2.3.7 NXT
I posted on the thread for nxt and they said no go for 800x :-( Guess I get to stay stock until my next phone....
Unless someone can confirm it works for cdma 800x?

New Xperia Play(Broken Again)

Hey, I broke my Xperia R800x again, beyond repair. I am going to get my Galaxy S4 as my Daily Driver next week, but I won't leave the XPlay. I just want to modify fully my Xperia. So, I will buy a new XPlay, but because I will customize my XPlay this time with ROMs and Kernels, I need to know which is better for the job, a R800a/at or a R800i?

Go for R800i because R800a don't have fastboot mode. R800i is most easy to unlock bootloader ( via sony's site method).

R800a can be boot loader unlocked via Sony just like the R800i, both are the same when it comes to development really. R800a has fast boot mode as well just the same, only difference between r800a and r800i is the r800a had hspa+ capabilities (At&t / Tmobile 4g) I have one of every verison made.
The R800AT will need someone to unlock it, because you cannot on Sony's and after wards the development is just the same as R800i. All of the GSM models can use the same kernels and firmware. (I have tried them all)

Using a r800i and its easy to root, bootloaderunlock, and to flash kernels and custom roms. Ive flashed loads of roms easy so go with r800i, from an experienced user .
