cm7 odex? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have searched and read many threads but have not seen this discussed anywhere. i am running 12/14 build and wanted to see what an odexed cm7 would be like. installs and runs perfect. i dont see any ill effects. not really any performance increase either but it was already at ludicris speed and still is. theme chooser still works no force closes on anything. it did reduce my internal storage used by about 10mb which is a plus. but my question is am i missing something as to why i shouldnt do this?

Laggy/Choppy scrolling?

Hey..I'm new to the forum and the Evo. I've seen a few posts about this, but haven't really been able to find an answer.
As with the other people that typically notice this, I'm an iPhone 3GS user...I bought the Evo a few days ago and love it, for the most part. I'm used to extremely smooth performance with very little lag. I noticed that scrolling through the application drawer, or the built in messages application causes huge lag, along with other menus. It seems like the most choppy performance is as the scroll is slowing down (like, if you "flick" it). So, naturally, I rooted my phone. Oh and to be clear, I'm not talking about the touch-sensor lag.
Here is what I have done so far hoping that it would eliminate the lag:
- Obviously, I've used Advanced Task Killer and removed the Live Wallpaper. Didn't really do anything. I have about 160 MB of available memory.
- Using the stock OTA rom (rooted), I installed the netarchy-toastmod-3.7.3c kernel to remove the FPS cap on my screen. It worked. Now, my scrolling is more responsive, but still choppy.
- Froyo. I've tried a few different Froyo ROMs hoping that the claimed 250-300% speed increase would eliminate scroll glitches. It did not. I tried Ava and Cyanogen ROMs.
- I tried the netarchy-toastmod-3.7.3c Froyo kernel for the Froyo ROMs. Still...choppy...possibly a little better though. It's hard to tell without seeing it side by side.
My brother has a different Droid phone (I forget which), but it didn't have a noticeable lag like the Evo does, and I know it's specs aren't as good. Is this phone doomed to low-quality scrolling? Any other suggestions?
What you're probably noticing is a lack of refinement in the easing of the animation. The only "fix" will be to view it as more responsive.

You may want to try a different launcher. For super snappy response I have heard good things about Launcher Pro. Personally I am using CM6 RC1 with some ADW tweaks and I feel like its fluid enough for me with no choppiness.
Thanks! The ADW tweak posted made the application drawer seem a LOT better (mainly because of the horizontal scrolling). I suppose I'll either just deal with the other choppiness or take it back and wait for a different phone, like the Epic. Maybe I'm just being too picky >.<
I've had great success with CM6 nightly and LauncherPro. As smooth as you can get. I had a news widget that caused some slow downs as well so make sure a widget is not causing it.
I noticed this too.
Its almost like comparable to a computer game performance on a pc
when it goes from 60 frames per second to 20 frames per second you notice it more.
if they just made it stay at say 20fps speed then it would at least keep a reasonably smooth experience
I will try the CM nightly build see if I have any luck.
I love the evo too but man the iphone 4 seems so much smoother when in reality its probably not.
its all about the way its presented
i am currently using baked snack 1.1 with netarchy kernel
if i install cm do i have to flash a different kernel or will it automatically do it?

Cyanogenmod 7 vs Oxygen 2.0

Hi,

Depends if you want a technical explanation or simple?
As simple as it gets.. Nothing!
They are both GREAT Rom's by GREAT developers. However, they are also BOTH in "pre-stable" release status. This doesnt mean they arent stable, actually they are both insanely stable. It just means neither is a "Final Product"
Both share most of the same basic features and neither really has a downside or drawbacks.. it's all personal preference. I LOVED Oxygen when I was running it, but for me, the new features/tweaks/bugfixes of the CM7 nightlies just drew me in
Both have their own HBOOT, both support A2SD (though Cm7 is a seperate flashable zip) and both have a pretty stable following as far as theme support..
It really just comes down to you.. read through the threads/changelogs and see if one draws your attention more than the other.. remember, once you are rooted, it only takes a minute or two to flash a new ROM.. if you dont like the one you choose, try the other.
I find that CM7 actually works. I can't get Oxygen to install at all. The download messes up so the md5 is a mismatch and as such, when installed it doesn't. Just returns a bad request. But as mikeandjaimie said, there are very little differences. To be honest, you can't get someone to tell you what is better or not. It is down to you. Your own preference. Try them both out for a little bit and see which you like.
I've tried both over the last week (tried GingerVillain too) and I prefer Oxygen out of the 2 you mentioned. it's very basic, but I really like it. only had a problem with the Launcher Pro calendar widget, but everything else works fine. On CM I had some bad battery drain, but other people like it.
I actually managed to get Oxygen to work today and I am testing it a bit. Obviously there are still going to be bugs around but it's pretty stable. Oxygen is minimal. It uses the default Android launcher whereas CM7 uses ADWLauncher. I can't really tell the difference between them both really. Like I said above it is down to preference. There are no real differences at all.

What features do you prefer in CM7 as opposed to oxygen?
...just interested
Well I haven't used oxygen in a bit, but they hadn't added any of the CM specific tweaks and features yet.. mostly stuff like gestures, etc.

CM patches are used for pretty much everything in Oxygen, so most features are alike. I like both, but prefer bleeding edge so CM nightlies FTW
Sent from a piece of ginger bread... Now with a little cyan tint
I have never used oxygen roms but its my first time to cyanogenmod 7 roms ever and I can say I am more then happy, I am have been using the first build nightly for well over a week now and its been absolutely fine, the only thing that does not work is video recording which but everyone is pre-warned about that until the nexus one files get dropped in.
Just flashed to 24th Feb nightly and still no hiccups, not getting the battery drain issues like people are posting, but there is no noticeable decrease or increase for me compared to the previous O2 branded froyo build.
what about ginger villain?
Haven't used CM7, but if you want a fast and lightweight ROM with excellent battery life (see the battery saving mods) then you cannot go wrong with Oxygen
Moreover,tt looks like now that the nexus one OTA has been extracted we will see a stable version of Oxygen very soon, so the problems with the Camcorder on RC7 (the dev didn't want any hacks in the ROM since he wanted it to be as stable as possible) will be ironed out!
Do both these have Bluetooth gamepad support

would love to see some posts with info about what made someone to move from one mod to another
(just a bump)
I loved Oxygen, loved it. Very fast and minimal allowing me to add to it the way I see fit, the way it should be really. Problem was I was one of the few that experienced bootloops constantly. On average once a day. Sometimes it would go into a boot loop at idle, and I wouldn't notice for over an hour, and by the time I got it back on, the screen being on and displaying the boot animation had drained some serious battery.
So I tried Ginger Villian, I had the same issue with bootloops, so I tried redux. I was quite happy with it, except it didn't work as a phone. It dropped calls every few minutes to multiple numbers, and it refused to send or recieve mms (Yes I checked the APNs). That's when I decided to try CM7, and found that it just works for me where the others didn't. Yes it's a little more heavily featured than I would like, yes it can be a bit laggy and slow every now and then, but it's the stability and reliability that keeps me here for the moment.
I wasn't S-Off when running Oxygen though, so I will delete the ext partition on my SD card and reinstall Oxygen with the oxygen hboot to see if maybe it makes a difference. Something must, there's a lot of people out there claiming to have never had a boot loop, though I would miss the T-Mobile theme enginge that CM7 ships with.
Probably more than you wanted to hear, but that's basically what made me jump from Oxygen to CM.
i really love a stable rom. that's why i prefer cyanogen and used cm6 for a long time. but i also want the latest android version. that's why i use oxygen at the moment until cm7 becomes "FINAL".
the most important thing about cm is that they do not modify the rom all the time. they create a rom, they test it as beta/rc (ONLY for bugfixing - no new (maybe buggy) features all the time) and one day you get a final rom which is no longer changed and STABLE.
I used CM6.1 for quite some time, I love AOSP ROMs, Ultralinx persuaded me to try Oxygen RC2 and I changed HBOOT to go with it. I love the minimalist, hack free aspect of the ROM. And because Oxygen 2.0.1 is so stable and lightweight, and that I can't be bothered to change HBOOT again I think I am going to stick with Oxygen until I am due to upgrade phones.
I used Oxygen since I first rooted, it was a froyo rom, but I used it all the way up to the most recent version. Today I tried cyanogenmod, just to see what differences (if any) there were.
So far, I've noticed the for a2sd+ on cm, you need to flash an additional script. But the main benefit of cm is that I can, for the first time since rooting, send mms again. I could receive them on oxygen no problem, but couldn't for the life send them. Definite benefit for me there.

Sorry of topic now but:
What do you mean by flashing a script for the app2sd? I only have a app called S2E, and an ext3 partition. And that app does the job, just by restarting my phone the apps moves to the ext3. But I do realize that my internalmemory goes down when I have a lot of apps. Like now i got 96 mb free. Am I doin it right?
Thanks

If you haven't moved your dalvik cache to SD then your internal memory will decrease. Dalvik takes up so much storage space.

[Q] Can i receive higher performance?

Hy everyone i want to ask everyone if i can have a faster android than this ?

The video says it all its an old cyanongen mod from here

Looked pretty average speed to me, certainly not slow for the Kaiser. Mine is running more smoothly then that using my latest CM6 build but it's running from NAND which will be faster. Getting rid of the fancy widgets on your home screen will speed up ADW Launcher as well, they're a waste of RAM. Other ways you will get it faster are overclocking using ATools or Rogue Tools, or getting a new phone.
to be honest im trying to flash one but i cant find a simple
i want something just to flash like i used to flash wm
I really dont care about customization
Check the forums here, there are many posts regarding installing to NAND. If I had to do it again, I would go with a Froyo build with not too much bloat and a .25 kernel, which for me right now seems quite stable.
I'm running 2.2.1 Froyo with a .25 kernel. I back up /data almost on a daily basis since I have had trouble with the phone locking up with some apps from the market. Otherwise a stable build is out there, just have to look for what you need and don't need.
There is a sticky topic related to "How to Replace"
I've overclocked mine to 520 MHz. It's pretty stable here, no problems thus far.
So far, the fastest build I've found is here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/2011-04-07-froyo/system-froyo-all-unodex-07-04-11_06.tgz/download
It's directly from the AndroidonHTC projects page and so far has been the fastest I've used to date.
Of course, I bogged it down with Facebook, Pandora and other useless garbage and made a backup of /data when done. Best thing is, no need for overclock.

Need help finding ROMs, choosing which to try

I am trying to flash my Inc with a new ROM for the first time, but it seems like more than half the ROMs on this page are either removed by the developer or cant be downloaded because the download links are dead.
Any tips on what to try first, based on what available still? The only thing I am concerned with is that the ROM is stable and compatible with as many of the stock functions as possible, stuff like broken radios is not what I am looking for right now. Would be kinda cool to try one as different from stock as possible. Does CM7 work well on the Inc? I keep seeing people talking about stuff that is broken with it.

Ice Cream Sandwich. Abduction by Hanger84 is smoother than the Sense ROMs.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA
Abduction is good to try if you want to experice ice cream.... but prepare for some bugs and missing features ( ie Camcorder, camera, & flash on websites and netflix) I suggest one of the gingerbread Roms or Froyo Roms. CM 7 or 8 should be fine, but you loose some of the things you may be accustomed to in Sense (Widgets). But there are pretty good apps that can do what sense does, you just have to look for them.
I'm using CM 7.2 RC1 (RC2 crashes right away for me) with latest ICS Incredikernal and SmartassV2 governor, fully over-clocked. Never crashes, everything works but, of course, 720p recording. I even found decent settings for auto-brightness (Make about 16 levels, start out at ~70, go up in ~5 point increments, then increase. Set Window Length to 5 secs). I have tried three ICS roms but always went back.
I'm using the new Go Launcher but it has a couple of bugs. Clear its data to get the large icons if you are stuck on small. To change settings on the large weather clock you have to do it via the small weather clock.
I use CyanogenMod 7.2. Along with Chad/Tiny's Incredikernel, Jermaine/Tiny's EXT4All mod, and Launcher Pro. Speedy and battery efficient. The latest RC should be fine, I'm on one of the nightlies and have been using Pons' KANGs when his computer was still working.
In addition to Sonny Sekhon's Ice Cream Sandwich CM7 Theme.
If you like the stock ROM, and want something stable and based off of it, Liberation 3.0 is a good choice. It is basically a rooted, debloated, stock ROM. I keep a copy on my SD card incase I need access to EPST or just feel like using Sense.
ICS is getting there, but the laggy animations and general speed have kept me away. It seems to me that the current hardware acceleration isn't 100% implemented. But I have never used ICS outside of the Incredible. So I don't have room to compare.
I'm with the majority here. CM 7.2 RC2 is great. I actually have stock kernel though, I am not sure if performance is better with incredikernel but I can tell you that CM7 is TONS better than stock in terms of battery life, customization, and overall android experience. I like sense but on the Inc, it's like they stopped trying...
P.S. - I also use GO Launcher EX with kovdev's ICS theme.
Well I just switched from Abduction to CM9 and so far CM9 is much better!!

See if Youtube works. Didn't for me. I ended up using the Go Launcher anyway so the experience was the same for me. There weren't as many stock apps like Car Home and the music widget is not the big one. Things like Phone and Calculator open slowly. Never did crash tho or even lag.
Hi, I am new to XDA and was looking for some links to the cm9 rom for DINC. I am currently running aokp_inc_build-25 and its nice but I have had some issues with it specifically with the camera not working properly.
Thank you in advance for the assistance.

I use a app called play on for YouTube Netflix and a lot of other video sites.. yea the camera fix seems to break playback on YouTube.. but I'm optimistic that those issues will be worked out since cm9 is still in development. What I love is that every feature u find in other Asop roms u can get apps that do that... so u can customize it better for your own personal taste and still have better stability!!!!!

Ok before I started getting replies here I dl'd Touch of Blue and Stock+, tried ToB for the week and it was ok but started to crash and lag a lot. The latter may have been due to my SetCPU settings, I dunno, but it was getting hung up on simple apps, and I did not like a couple things about it, like getting calls when the screen is off required you to unlock it, then unlock it again at the receiving call screen. Also didnt like the battery meter.
Just installed Stock+ and immediately realized it wouldn't work at all when I saw that the App Data partition was still at 150MB. Thats the whole reason I rooted, so there is no way I am using a ROM that is eventually gonna give me the Low space messages again.
GOnna try the ones you guys suggested now
I like Wildstangs stock ROM, and gtiny's kernel. I used root app delete to debloat it. And run the on demand deadline settings and can go 11 hours on a full charge with heavy use.
I also like the last stable release of CM7.1.0 it is smoking fast and way less issues then the nightlies or kangs to me.

CM7.2 couldn't figure out how to add my Google account. Also couldnt disable the camera shutter sound.
Tried Liberation but the App Data partition is still only 150MB; as soon as I restore my apps its gonna be out of space again.
ALL ROMs for the Incredible are going to have a 150 MB data/data partition. It's the way HTC made it. The only way around it is with the EXT4All mod. More information here. The file you're looking for to remove the limit is "Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip".
And there is an options in the CM7 sound settings to disable the shutter sound. Called "Mute camera shutter".
Ok I found the camera sound setting, thanks. Any advice on getting the Google account to work? The Account settings were trying to setup an email thing, not my Google account
EDIT:
Figured out that I need to flash the Google apps pack on CM7 to get that all to work, but ClockworkMod kept failing to mount the pack when I tried to install it. Now I am back on Liberation, because at least here I have my Google account with contacts, but I cannot get the EXT4 fix to work. I download it, open it with Clockwork, tell it to reboot and apply, but it fails to mount it, just like the Google apps pack problem. Using Clockwork 5.0.2.0

[Q] [MiUi] First thoughts and some questions about miui

So after having gotten my first GS2 back in mid-april and having only rooted it three days later... I decided on BlueKuban ICS since it was very easy to set up and use (as a completely new android noob)
Anywho, I'm feeling frisky! (And want to be able to easily theme my ROMs / Install other peoples themes) And have since started using miui 2.6.15 ICS.
Some things I noticed off the bat:
-SD Card / Internal HD issues:
I of course made to sure to follow the installation instructions to the (T). Flashed External.zip after flashing the rom..... But there's now internal storage showing less then 3gigs total space...... then the internal storage with ~11gigs (which is the normal SG2's HD space) then even though its still labled as "internal storage" there's my 32gig SD card.
This is not helping my OCD ._. Is this a known issue with miui due to the way it is installed?
-Lockscreen widgit:
I love it! Except I uninstalled alot of stuff I don't want to use like the default Messaging app and the muui music app. Now on the lockscreen going to the message or music icon fails to launch a program (Well I understand why......)
My question: Is there a way to tinker with it to launch the programs I want it to? (Gvoice for messaging and DoubleTwist for music.)
-Themes
I've looked @ the in-phone browser for them.... but was wondering, is there a proper US/English forum/thread/sticky where I could find some themes? ^_^ Google helped me peruse some deviant art posts, but not a designiated list as I was looking for.
Well sorry to rabble on, was going to blurb just my two main questions on the actual MiUI Dev Thread however am still under the 10 post limit (And their Epic 4G Touch thread is very.... well empty )
Hiya!
In terms of SD issues ... they have always been a problem because we don't have kernel source. The devs working on MIUI have found work arounds that at least get apps on the phone to start recognizing files on the SD (pictures, videos, music, etc) but bugs are gonna be there until kernel source is available to iron them out.
In terms of the MIUI lockscreen, these things are coded into the theme. Last time I checked, if you look through the MIUI theme files, there should be a .xml that *might* allow you to change what the lockscreen "buttons" lead to. However AFAIK you cannot change it any other way. (I may be wrong)
Themes can be found around the English MIUI forums. I never tried them though but they're there. Make sure the theme you're looking at is for ICS versions of MIUI otherwise it may/may not work.
That's all I've got for now, I hope this helped. MIUI is truly a great ROM, just a bit hard to get down straight >_>
