ek02 failed root is cause? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

when my phone told me there was an update waiting for me I told it to go ahead and restart, I put it in my pocket and went on with my life... like half an hour later I took it out and there was an android with a yellow triangle in the screen, I waited 10 minutes but it was still there, so I pulled the battery, it restarted and it was still on eg30... could it have failed because it was rooted? how do I update?

Bricked phone

I turn my phone on and all I get is the Samsung logo, then pitch black... nothing else.
I'm not sure exactly what happened. Everything was working fine, before I had the problem I flashed the Clockwork Recovery Image, but I had some problems with getting permissions.
So I waited a little while, then flashed again without a problem, then I proceeded to download a ROM, after installing it, I flashed it via Rom Manager. My phone shut off and continued to stay out... so I pulled the battery and tried to turn it back on and got nothing...
I try to charge it to see if it will respond, and the battery icon comes on for a second then the phone goes back to pitch black. I tried to get it into recovery mode, but all I get is the Samsung screen, then pitch black
----- Never mind I got it into ODIN MODE!!!!
Glad you got it. From what you described it wasnt a brick but that can still be scary.

Bricked?! [UPDATED]

I tried searching, but I couldn't find anyone with the same problem as me and I don't know what to do.. I'm kind of freaking out. The last update I installed was darkside beta02, and I was really liking it minus a few connection and call issues. Anyways, I was in my car earlier today and picked out a song on play music. The phone instantly turned off, and it appeared that it was about to reboot so I didn't think much about it. Nope. When it starts to turn on it rarely makes it past the samsung screens that pops up right when you start the phone, but it has made it as far as the swirling samsung s splash screen thing. It just acts like it is rebooting from that part and it's like a never ending cycle until I remove the battery. I can get the phone into download mode by plugging it into the computer, but it only stays on for a few seconds and then goes back to it's never ending reboot. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, I really can't afford to have bricked this phone
UPDATE: I managed to restore the phone to stock, and I proceeded to root and put darkside beta 7.1 on it. Everything was running fine... For a few hours. It began to do the same rebooting described above, but now instead of looking like it's going to boot normally it goes straight to a screen that says "Firmware encountered an issue. Please sleect recovery mode in Kies and try again." with the phone model, "Custom Binary Download: No" and "Current Binary: Samsung Official" up top. It only stays at this screen for a few seconds before it starts back into it endless half-reboot. Any suggestions? This is frustrating me A LOT.
uh, have you tried charging it? Honestly at first blush it sounds like a dead battery.

Yes I've charged it overnight... And it does the same thing when it's on the charger without the battery in.
Can you get into recovery? My wife's phone did something similar out of no where. I had to restore a nandroid.

He said he can't get into recovery.
Do you have insurance? Might want to take it to a store.

Oops sorry about that. I would reset your flash counts and try and take it back to the store if possible... seems like your only option if you can't get into recovery. Or reflash stock. Then root again then clear cache and then factory defaults
If you can get it to stay on long enough-- in Odin

Wouldn't they just tell me I'm out of luck because my phone is clearly rooted and whatnot?

The problem is that I can't do anything but watch the phone start up for about 10 seconds, or be in download mode for about 10 seconds. Not much time to do anything.
That is why you reset flash counts before you go in... Google is your friend and try to unroot somehow--
You are quick! Lol I edited my post just after you replied to it

I had this exact thing happen to me today!! For the last week or so, I would get a random reboot up to four times a day. This started happening after I flashed Whitehawkx UVLDE zip. What I did was left the battery in the phone let the constant reboot run until the battery died. Then I would try to get into download mode, but then it would reboot before Odin recognized it. I left the usb plug in the phone and took the battery out, the phone would still do the rebooting vibration. I just stayed with trying to get the phone to stay on long enough to get recognized by Odin. Leave the drained battery out of the phone for a while (your choice of how long, I left it for about forty minutes) and replace it, hopefully it stays on long enough to get recognized. Finally it stayed on long enough and I re-flashed ULKL1. Now I'm back to running TDJ's DARKSIDE. EVOLUTION.2 [BETA 3] and I haven't had any reboots where as before it would reboot within fifteen minutes.

Thank you! And when you say replace the battery, do you mean get a whole new one or put in the dead one?
Just put the dead one in.
My advice is similar to his, but without killing the battery. Open odin on your computer, and input what your going to input into pda and have everything ready to go, so all you have to do is press start and its off. Now, start with the phone turned off, hold both volume buttons and plug in the usb cable from the computer quickly! Have your hand ready on the mouse and ready to click start. Soon as odin recognizes click that start button! Hopefully everything happened so quick, that the phone will take the flash. However, if it doesn't, then I'm afraid the only answer you would have left is to use a jig to reset the counter and take it in to be replaced.

If you cant get it to Odin, and if you cant get it to download mode, and if you cant get it to turn on, neither can TMo. Take it in.

The thing is, it starts to start up, and you can clearly see that it's rooted. I feel like they won't honor my warranty.

QHUSB_Dload

Alright, so I had an interesting problem with my phone yesterday. I had deodexed my rom and was trying a few things with it. I attempted to re odex my rom, "ICS". Well when attempting to run the script that I had found, "I will post link later", I had a very bad experience.
I shut down my phone and attempted to boot, and had no such luck. it kept booting past sony into CWM and would freeze after a few moments and my screen would go red and then reboot again, Repeatedly.
I thought I could try some hardware key combos, " power + vol up/down/camera... different variations of them.
My screen went back with just the back light showing with no logo or OS, I had the error of QHUSB_Dload pop up on my computer after plugging in and attempting to recover through SEUS/PCC/or flashtool. "QHUSB_Dload drivers can be found by googling them, I think I found them in Xperia S forums.
After talking with sony support, they had informed of letting the phone battery die and try charging it, well support said it would take 4-6 hours, battery was @ 79% when starting, it took 14 hours to finally die "no joke".
Once battery was dead and screen was no longer backlit, i plugged it in using my wall charger and did not touch it for about four hours, i then decided that i will not tempt fate and power on, " might have booted, might not have", I ran flashtool and reflashed ICS. from there phone booted back to the way i had it and have not had any issues. thought it would be a heads up if anyone runs into this issue again.
So do I. I got the same problem...
Just charge if for 14 hours will be ok?
Yes let it die completely then 're charge to 60% about 5-6 hrs then reflash ics Rom.

Boot loop????

So last night I turn off my phone and don't plug the charger in I awake in the a..m. send turn on my phone and it's stuck on the samsung screen after the sprint animation. I pull the battery for a few secs put it back in power up and the same thing. I just went into recovery and flashed back. No problems booting up, that was weird though I did let the phone sit atleast a minute both times. That was the first time I turned the phone off since I got it two weeks ago....One other thing. I noticed yesterday when I got to work at 9a.m. I seen the time on my clock said 4: 27 a.m. and I had to restart my phone to fix it

Is my 360 bricked?

Ok, so here's the deal. Bought the watch and charged it to 100% before turning it on. Fired it up, synched with android wear fine and it wanted to update. I ran the update but it kept getting to the end and complaining about how there was an error and to try again. I threw it back on the charger and it had dropped all the way down to 64%!
I charged it back up and did the update. I was stuck on the android icon for about 10 min then it rebooted and was stuck at "Just a minute" for a good 15 min or so. I did a hard reboot. Since then I have performed a hard reboot multiple times. For awhile there it was giving me the option to reset, which I tried 3 times. I kept getting stuck on "just a minute" when trying to sync.
Now, after the last reset, I can't get past the big motorola logo when it boots. Usually it shows the logo and then has the gears moving through the logo. But now, it just shuts off and comes back on to that logo.

sounds like a boot loop, which sucks because i don't think there's a known way to get into recovery or if the watch even has one. i'd email motorola if i were you.
Ok, I left it off for about 30 minutes and finally got it to power back on so I could reset it again. Once again, it reset and wants to download an update. It downloads, reboots, installs, reboots and then just sits at "just a minute..."
This thing is a serious pain to get up and running. Any ideas? I don't know what else to try. Ive tried pairing it with a HTC One and a Galaxy Note 3.
*EDIT*
Ok, after 2 more tries I finally got it to the point where I saw a new boot screen. I figured that was good news. Now its been sitting on the Android boot screen. By that I mean the green, blue, red and yellow orbs have been flying around for 10 minutes.

It looks like if I press and hold the power to shut down, then press and hold for a good 10 sec or so when booting back up it will boot me to a screen that shows:
"Bootloader version: 940
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 2
Battery OK
Connect USB Cable"
Thats about as far as I can get now. It refuses to go past the android screen now.
*EDIT*
OMG... so I decided to fire it up and start trying to power it down immediately. I did that 3 times in a row and it booted up to the Android Wear pairing screen. I paired it and... its trying to download something again. I can't win. I may have to take this thing back and wait for the next LG watch. I can't figure this out.

Is possible you got a dud.
So this morning I made s trip back to best buy and luckily they had 2 left in stock. I wasn't that aggravated because my last 360 had a dead pixel anyway.
With the replacement I did everything the same as I did last time and this time around it updated and did its thing flawlessly. So yea, sounds like I just have bad luck and got a dud.

Ok maybe I acted too quick but I forced it off then put it on the charger for several minutes and automagically it booted up and seems to be working.
