Rooted, and keeps wanting me to update?? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hi, I have a epic 4g touch and I rooted it successfully using odin about a month ago. Now It wants me to system update, I hit cancel because I dont want to brick my phone, so i keep hitting cancel, but ten mins later it comes up again? Im new at this, and im not sure what to do? Any advice would be good thank you for reading and your time.

Common issue. Do you have EG30 or EG31? Settings >> About Phone (if you didn't know)

i have the same issue. I flashed the EK13 modem ad now i see there is a update. Has the EK13 OTA started to roll out im on Blazer rom and would rather stay on this then go to a stock build.

It's easy enough Original Thread
Just flash the zip for EK02 thru CWM
If your nervous QBKing77 has a video

Blazer was just updated to EL13. Beta but you're in luck the issue seems to be you have to flash blazer 2.0 first.

That was at davimack, I'm in the same boat. Kinda wanna try flashing from calks version, I've got a nand backup of it but I really like the look and feel of tnz blends I just wanna get rid of update notification
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium

I just hit restart and install from the update notification and it tried to install but couldn't. It went to the caution triangle with the Android guy screen. Then I hold the power button until recovery booted, cleared cache and reboot. Never seen the update notification again even after reboots. Make sure you freeze the update checker from titanium backup our you would have to go through this again

Yeah I posted a link for best bet. This is a STOCK, pre-rooted EK02 ROM. I do have to warn you this is a full ROM. So a full wipe is recommended. You can try to just wipe cache and dalvik. Titanium backup all your stuff to be safe

Guys team vennum has a script that prevents updates in Development and I believe there is an apk called FOTA.apk that you put in your system/app folder and prevents updates

If he is flashing ICS via the Odin tar he should NOT need to wipe anything. The tar could be bad (maybe a bad download) or something. The screen he saw though is normal on first reboot as I've seen it also but it reboots within a minute (or less)

The 1 clicks are not bad to flash. I do have a EG30 tar but it's to big to put anywhere without breaking it down into smaller parts. But using the 1 click flash able tars should do the trick regardless.

after unplugging the phone from usb with that screen this is what reads on that screen.
E:failed to mount /data (unknown error 0)
update logfile does not exist
then it did a data wipe and something else.
it rebooted and after the boot screen it went kernel panic upload mode.
any ideas now?

ok that's odd. I've honestly never seen it do that with mine but I have seen the Android guy a few times (mostly with the ICS builds) Maybe someone with a bit more experience could chime in on the matter and maybe have a few ideas as to what you could do. Someone like sfhub or one of the devs maybe.
Edit
If I had to take a guess however it almost sounds like something is corrupt however. Maybe I'm wrong like I said just taking a guess on it.

go for it im willing to try anything and id appreciate it alot if it saves me the hassle of dealing with the idiots at sprint. If it doesnt work ill just take it to them say it was a bad ota update and order a new one. I went in today and I told the guy I rooted it just because Im an idiot, He said it was good because it still had the samsung official binary, not saying anything about my custom binary counter which is somewhere above 30

The files are being uploaded now. Once all 3 are done I'll pm you the mediafire links to download them. The rar has a recovery record so if something happens (by chance) you should be able to recovery it (incase of a bad download)
Here is the thing this is a STOCK EG30 no root nothing. I use sfhubs auto root package to regain root on the device when I use this (which is often lol) I hope this does work however.
I'll pm you in a few once it's all done uploading.
edit.
Pit goes in the PIT option for Odin. Put the TAR in PDA.
I wouldn't mind having those files too if you could pm me.If not it's all good.

[Q] cant update to ics

i am having a problem updating to ics , now i have done every step on qb77's youtube video to the T but when i start to update the little bar starts to go and then stops and i go into the triangle with the ! mark in the middle and the android guy and it stays there untill pull the battery , and yes i have made sure that the update file is on the sd card and not the phones internal storage so im wandering if it just my phone or what but any help would be great thanks
oh and no im not rooted im on stock
I'm pretty sure you have to be rooted. I think the only one you don't have to be rooted for is the latest leak (FD30?), I think that one can be flashed through stock recovery without root. I could be wrong.

Worked like a charm, and im able to update to 2.3.6 thanks a lot man
You have to let it load, don't be in such a hurry.. first boot always takes time to reinstall all bloatware and such.. give it about 30 mins if you have not had progress then you might have to clear all your cache, dalvik cache, and data before this might work. I don't use Odin unless I have to, love my cwmr touch 6.0.0.1

Need urgent help !
Sorry to ask, but reading numerous forums has made me absolutely clueless as to what to do.
Long story short, My AT&T i927 is not rooted and i updated to official ICS via kies air and have been having multiple bugs, like the famous keyboard backlight issue (for which ive read the fix but was unable to implement it) and also, the pinch zoom gestures being of almost no use cuz they are THAT slow in response and the hd games on it have become extra laggy, the camera quality has become terrible.
I want to go back to gingerbread but dont know how so PLEASE, i request you to take few minutes out of your precious time and help me with one single post containing the step by step method and links to whatever it is that i need to download. I seriously appreciate this and would make sure this post is popular enough to not to be repeated again.
Eagerly awaiting your reply.
THANKS.

2 options.
1. Use a nandroid backup if you made 1 before upgrading.
2. Go to Sammy firmware "http://www.sammobile.com/firmware"and download the ROM you would like to install with Gingerbread and flash via ODIN. You will have to register with them and using Odin is straight forward see on this forum how to use it.
Much appreciated.
Thank you so much kind sir ! One last ridiculous question, in order to opt for your above mentioned option 2....would it require me to root my phone ?
Nope just have to have it recognized when in download mode. Boot into download mode and star Odin then plug cable to computer and see if it sees you're phone. If not you may wish to install kies. This is the app from Samsung and it installs all necessary drivers for you computer to recognize you're phone. Via Odin or kies.

[Solved] Rooting 4.4.2 official

I know there's plenty of posts on this already. ..
But I seem to be running into a problem....come on guys don't flame me lol I've been around the block with all the S phones and rarely have I asked such a question. And yes I've been searching for 3 days constantly while home and at work all day and night trying to figure this out.
I've got a note 2 at&t on official 4.4.2 that I want to unlock to tmobile but my issue is rooting it.
I've read towel doesn't work so I went to cf auto root and that seems to be where my issue is.....
I flash it thru odin and it passes goes thru with the whole updated rooted recovery....reboots and then SuperSU says "Unfortunately SuperSU has stopped working"
SuperSU is installed as a system app as its supposed too but I'm not rooted.
The market does not give the option to update. ...only open.
I sure could use a helping hand...thanks in advance
Also when I go back into recovery I'm back to the stock recovery....I've tried multiple times flashing cf but the end result is the same....nowhere

Good question from the looks of the information found in the link its still 4.4.2 just with some security updates. From a view doesn't seem like it but also wouldn't hurt to see it offers some improvements.
Android version: 4.4.2
Baseband version: APQ8064/MDM9x15M
Software Version: E98020h
Kernel version: 3.4.0
Build number: KOT49I.E98020h
If your own E98020g then the update is just only 5mb
E98020g -> E98020h: 5.15 MB (Wi-Fi not required)
Then again after the stunt AT&T pulled graying out the APN in the last update its pretty much at your own risk at this point.
Alright, I went ahead and let the update download and install. Upon the phone rebooting, it is now stuck in CWM recovery. I can't seem to get out of it. I guess the update is not friendly with custom recoveries.
Anybody have suggestions on what to do? I found similar posts on the LG G2 forums, but they talk about connecting the phone to adb while still in CWM. Every time I try that, I get "device offline" and can't send any commands.
This sounds the same as last update three months ago.

As far as I've ever known you always need to have stock recovery with a update like that.... You probably have to use lg flash tools to get back to stock ... IMO

Just updated this morning, I was VERY unhappy with the last update, it really bogged down the phone and I experienced some other small issues...after updating this morning, I have double the amount of free RAM as before and phone feels much more snappier again!
Just updated... i rooted with towel root, installed busy box, supersu, and 6.0.4.4. Cwm No problems yet...

I used this method with this image the last time I went back stock.
I may just pass on this update as it is too big of a PITA to go back stock and then re-customize everything.
Saved my life!

I want to thank you very much!
The only reason I even created a profile on this forum is o thank you! Yes, clicked the thank you button!
Worked like a charm! I never heard of towelroot until now, and it took about 3 seconds to download and another 3 to install.
Worked like a charm no issues sir.
THANK YOU AGAIN!
That is the easiest root I have ever done in my life!

Sounds like you're in the same boat i was. Sucks.
I ended up using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44983841, but i needed to do it slightly differently. It gave me a lot of grief last night, but I ended up getting it to work if i pulled the usb in and out of the phone when the lgflashtool showed that it was "ready". I can't fully remember the exact combination that worked, but i finally got the kitkat tot to flash and then update and towel root. If you have any more questions, let me know and I'll try to step through it when i make it to my laptop.

For what it's worth I am stock rooted and was able to do the update with no problems. I would suggest if your not sure of what your doing to look through the forums and find a safe way to unroot, go back to factory rom and then do the update. It will save you hours of trouble. Good luck
Lol I must have hit the button while sleeping ..... Buddy called me and I remember hitting the notification area ...boom stuck recovery loop... Its all good now I got it all figured out and restored my stock kk. Pain in the ass lol. Is that update even worth it ... What all is in it ? Nothing major I'm guessing
