I can't connect to my university's wifi network (eduroam, PAE). Although I use the exact same settings and certificates as my notebook and also compared it to other android users, there is just no way to connect sucessfully: "Authentification failed"
Has anyone managed to do so?

I have no problems connecting to eduroam network. I use TTLS on the first step and PAP on the second verification step. Don't know if every eduroam network is the same though, but in the Netherlands, it works.
Hmm, thank you. Do you also have the strange behaviour that the 2nd pass authentification is reseted when reentering the network configuration?
I read that there was such a strange behaviour back with gingerbread and some accesspoints, but that should already have been fixed in anroid 4?

Hey guys, I just recently got my Softbank and upgraded to WM6 this morning. All is good except for my WiFi. The phone is able to connect to my router but when I try to go to sites with IE it gives me this error:
"THe page cannot be displayed or downloaded because connection was lost. Check the connection and try again"
Sites show up fine with EDGE, but IE does not show sites via WiFi. Router even shwos the phone connected to it and that an IP is assigned.
Excuse my ignorance, I am new and any help and advice is greatly appreciated.
Try this ...

make sure your ieee 802.11b/g compatible wi-fi Ad....is connecting you to "The Internet" and not "Work." Cheers
Thanks for the reply. I verified that, checked it and double checked, but I'm still getting the same error. Are there other settings I need to change or look at?
Check these as well...

start>settings>connections>wi-fi:
1. Click on your wirless SSID which should say connected.
2. Make sure it says connected to the internet.
3. Select the "This is a hidden network."
4. Make sure all of your keys/passwords are correct.
start>settings>connections>wireless LAN:
1. Make sure it is connected with good strength.
2. Verify It gave you an ip on the Advanced Tab.
3. Turn the Power Mode all the way up to Best Performance.
In your router verify you are not blocking or mac address filtering this connection. You might want to reserve the IP address for you device MAC.

Worked for myself and others... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=300887&page=5
(post #44)
I tried the settings and still no go. I'm using a Linksys router and I have it set up to where the router assigns the phone a specific IP. According to the router, the phone is connected and according to the phone, the phone is connected. Should the GPRS(EDGE) be active and connected at the same time? Cause it is, how do I manually disable it? I feel really stupid if this is why.
prodigalfish: Is that cab only for use with cingular network? I'm on tmobile network, so I'm not sure if I could use that cab. I will do a hard reset though, haven't tried that yet.
Yes It does matter....

TURN IT OFF!!!
Inside of activesync you must tell it allow wireless / data connection. If you press and hold the hangup red button the GRPS connection will drop. You can also turn it off in the comm manager.
Did you ever solve this problem as I am having exactly the same the one.
1. Wifi works fine, can transfer files over the network, Skype connects etc
2. Only PIE (PIEPlus) does not connect to web pages.
I have done everything mentioned here. Hmm

My guess is that the version of PIE you are using (or PIEPlus) has a hard-coded proxy address that your device cannot reach. I use Opera myself, works much better than PIE (IMHO).
John
Have you tried changing the authentication to Shared instead of Open?
This worked for me.
I have the same problem with these newest roms, just after set up 3G connection(Softbank by using ConnSBM).
It worked fine with roms before 5/15th.
Hey guys, I've activated the Froyo Sense wifi hotspot feature, and while my XP laptop can easily see the network and connect, it can't actually receive any data. I've checked the HSPDA on the phone and it's fine; but trying to view a website on my laptop in Firefox when connected just does work, it just keeps saying 'looking for', e.g. 'looking for google.co.uk'. I'm on T-mobile UK in case that's relevant.
Does anyone else have any issues?
Make sure that you have DHCP enabled and also automatic DNS detection. For me (Vista laptop, phone on Vodafone NL) it works fine.
And it may also be that T-Mob is somehow detecting what you are trying & then blocking it...
In the end I ran Windowx Xp network diag repair and that finally seemed to fix it. Weird, never had any issues with any other hotspots I've tried using! Very strange, although I did notice the IP address Froyo gave my laptop was exactly the same that my normal router serves up, maybe this was the issue and Windows just got a bit confused, poor thing...
Hy. I bought my defy one week ago and I have noticed some inconsistencies with the WiFi function. I got it tot work on a public network in a restaurant on the first try. At home however everything seems so random : I got it to connect to WiFi 5-6 times eventhough I don't have a router but most of the times I get the : "connection detected" notification but no internet access ( when i select the network in the wifi settings it says the signal is excellent ).
My modem is a Huawei EchoLife HG520s, I am running windows 7 x32, my phone was not rooted and i didn't make a blur account.. that doesn't work either.
I would really appreciate your help.

You are getting wifi signal at home but do not have a router? You mean a wifi router? If that's the case maybe you are picking up wifi signals from someone else's router and you cannot connect because you need to sign on? If you are having trouble getting on your own router, could you tell us what it is etc.?
You didn't set up a Blur account? Or you did and it doesn't work? Where are you located? If you tried to set it up and couldn't it may be because some markets (I hear) do not support Blur. For instance, there are some models of Defy that do not have Blur and that's probably why.
Sorry i should have made it clearer: i have not bought any kind of router but the modem i use could have a wifi router incorporate(i don't know if it does i lost its documentation).
I live in a house with no nearby sources of wifi and both networks (the one i use to connect to the internet from my pc and the wifi i find if i scan wth my phone have the same name)
I live in Romania and everytime i try to set up a Blur account and click the start button it cancels.

Is there any way you can temporarily disable your modem's wifi security just so you can get on to see if that works? Make sure to turn it back on after, this is just to see if that's the cause of the trouble.
Also about setting up a Blur account - did you try that at home, or at an open Wifi area (eg. the restaurant)? If it doesn't work at home then I guess it's worth trying it at the restaurant or any other place where you can get the connection to work.
Well the network i get here at home is 'open' and i get a connection everytime.. just no internet access on my phone and the computer doesn't seem to recognise the connection (happen exactly he same even on the times i had internet access)

exactly what happened to me. is not a router's problem but a DNSes problem.
you must enter the router and disable the "automatic DHCP". enter in the settings of the phone, wifi, advanced DNS settings automatically if not found. and it work.
P.S. after this if you have problems with your computer, right click the connection, and then do "problem solving". good luck ...

the only problem is that I can't seem to find a router in my devices.. i have a internet modem that might have a wi-fi router incorporated
How does the computer connect to the modem if it uses USB i'm not too sure what you can do but if it uses ethernet what I recommend you do is click on start, and type in "cmd" when this loads type "ipconfig /all" this will then bring up all the details of your connection. What you are looking for is the default gateway, this will be the address of your router. With this add "http" and the default gateway number into a browser, you should then be able to get into the routers config and then you can follows powertony84's guide.
Well i'm pretty sure the network I connect to with my phone is mine because i just changed its security level to WEP using bobdigby advice. But I got lost afterward.
I have attached a prinscr of the DHCP setting i can fiddle with and i really appreciate your help so far
Any idea what channel i should use? i got a tip to chage the channel but i don't know into which one
I don't use any router but I turn my laptop, which supports wifi, into a wifi hotspot so that my defy can use wifi within my apartment. It's wonderful!

I think you got the wifi problem
Solution 1:
Switching Off your Bluetooth while your WAP is enabled will give a change in frequency on how the both wifi and Bluetooth interacts.
Turning your Bluetooth and WIFI by turning your Bluetooth on, or turn off Bluetooth and wifi off then turn your wifi on .
Tweaking it will Solve Authentication Error
Solution 2:
A next problem causing the Authentication Error is the router/modem .
WIFI IP Address Conflicts , most computers and mobile devices connected to the same network may be sharing same IP addresses.
In most scenario where pc’s and mac’s are assign to their unique custom IP Address.
Smartphones such as our Samsung Galaxy will likely to interfere with other existing Devices to cause the Authentication Error.
Solution 3:
Is the password correct?

I tried it but I still got the error.
This is the first phone I've ever owned that I've had an issue connecting to this type of WiFi network. I configured all of the settings correctly when adding the network (including telling it not to verify the certificate, since I don't have one installed): PEAP, MSCHAPv2, don't verify cert, identity, anon identity, and password. I am certain the password is correct, because the RADIUS server is responding with an ACCEPT message. However, the phone just immediately disconnects. After a few tries, it just shows "saved" under the SSID name, and doesn't try again. It never gets to the "obtaining IP address" stage of the connection.
Has anyone else had this issue? It will connect to a PSK SSID just fine. My Galaxy S7 Edge, as well as every other Android phone I've owned back to the HTC Evo will connect to this same SSID just fine.
yes i do, i have that issue at work

Have you read any other threads about it? Is there a fix? I know that there is a verizon build that supposedly improves WiFi connectivity, but I really don't want to install that on my (google store) Pixel XL. I didn't read anything about it specifically fixing this issue, anyway.

I'm having problems with 5ghz connections. 2.4ghz works fine. It connects fine but on 5ghz I get slow downloads and connection interruptions. $800.00 phone should connect to everything.
No issues here connecting to my work WPA2 enterprise wifi
I connect to my office WPA2 Enterprise but it is slow as could be on my Pixel XL. My N6 it's super fast so something is going on.

Just as an update... I sideloaded the OTA - NDE63P and it did not fix my slowness issue running on my office WPA2 network.
In case anyone was curious about the OTA and sideloading - https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Mine works, but our office network requires an identity and password. No server certs or anon Ident. So far, I have not had an issue.
