Hi!
I've been looking for a new keyboard for my Desire Z for quite some time, but can't seem to find anyone who can supply just this part or even just the pcb membrane (that's the part that's broken).
Does anyone knows were I can get one?
I attached a picture of what i need...
Thanks
Not sure about where one would source just the part but would buying a unit with a broken screen of eBay work?
I've been tryin to look for a unit with a broken screen, but all of them come out pretty expensive since the mainboard is still working... most people sell it for repairing...
Thanks anyway...

Is this what you're looking for at all? Not sure what you mean by pcb membrane.

I'm fairly certain he means the soft platic piece between the keys and the actual mainboard that when depressed makes contact and registers the keystroke.
found this website that sells g2 replacement parts. It seems like a legit website check it out.

Yup that's what I figured, might have to look outside your comfort zone to find that. I'm thinking Chinese website or something lol. I'm sure it isn't a commonly replaced part. Those membranes rarely fail. the only thing they usually need is a cleaning. Have you tried that? Or is it actually torn/broken? If so how'd that happen?
Might have to find a cheap parts desire a on Ebay....
I had the problem when i replaced the lcd screen... damaged the connecting ribbon when reassembling the phone my bad, i know.
i have been trying to find everywhere but no luck, the picture i show is from a Chinese site but they only sell the full body, not that piece in particular.
thanks anyway... if you stumble upon something, please let me know.

Taking it apart is no problem, I've already done that. What I miss is the replacement screen... :?
2 screws on the sides, 4 under the battery. Remove cover, remove the keyboard connector on the side and the screws that hold the PCB. Slide screen up, lift the PCB carefully and dicsonnect the 2 flat cable connectors.
Then remove 4 screws on the screen part, 2 at the top and 2 under holes at the bottom.
Any idea where to find the screen?

Hi all,
I just recently got hold of a XDA Orbit which the previous owner had dropped off a roof (don't ask! ) The screen broke when it hit the floor and it has cracked and just appears white when you turn it on.
I know the system is still running because I can hear the sound effects when turning the volume up/down so I think it's still working ok....
So what I'd like to do is buy a replacement screen off eBay and fit myself. Does anyone know how hard it is to do this? I've got the Artemis-Inside PDF and although it's a great help in seeing how to get inside the thing, it doesn't really show how to replace the screen....
I'm assuming I can just disconnect the ribbon cable and pull the old screen out and then just put the new screen back in??
I hope it's that easy anyway! If anyone knows then it'd be a great help to me,
Thanks for any replies!
Jon.
Sounds difficult according to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=312382&highlight=screen
Hmm that's not quite the same problem as I have.... that poster was just trying to replace the "touch" part of the screen whereas I'm going to try and replace the whole LCD + "touch"
This is what I'm hoping to buy: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Genuine-O...5QQihZ002QQcategoryZ10364QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and by the looks of the picture on the auction and the picture in that other post, the screen is the same as the original Orbit screen....
Artemis screen repair
I've change my broken screen with an ebay screen (lcd+touch) in less 1 hour.
No big difficult...

This is for 'touch' part only wich is very difficult, because the lcd and touch are the same part... i've try the same (because of price) with no result because the connector was not the same and i can't detach the lcd part of the 'touch' part, so i manage change the all without difficult.

Thanks again!
(If I remember, I will post back and let you all know how it goes.. )
Yep, got it all swapped out with the new screen but the PDF I'd downloaded didn't help in the slightlest!
Maybe the UK model has been slightly re-designed? I don't know but I did take some shots which I'll put into a PDF at some point. Who knows, it might help someone else out.

Hi Jonathan,
Can you put those shots into a pdf please and also send me instructions. My screen just cracked, I've ordered a replacement and needed instrustions much appreciated.

I've posted the instructions I followed on another forum.

Hope it helps, and it was fairly straight forward to replace the screen unit.
Matt
ok so I managed to crack the screen..nice big shatter mark under the screen and now the entire screen went black...insurance is a pain and from what I understand getting Asurion to replace my vibrant will be $130 and buying an AMOLED screen itself is cheaper.
The rest of the phone is still in working condition as before my screen went totally black after it broke some of it was still functional.
Any idea on where I can get the screen? I have not had luck on ebay as of yet, and was hoping someone here could recco a reputable vendor...
Aliexpress? aliexpress DOTcom/product-fm/342627474-Touch-Digitizer-LCD-Display-AMOLED-Screen-origianl-i9000-for-T-Mobile-Samsung-Vibrant-t959-Wholesale-wholesalers.html
Etech? etech DOTcom/cell-phones-lcd-screens--c1144_1156?page=3&m_id=12&sort=20a
www.cnn.cn maybe? it about $70 +sh
Wow wish I would had found this post sooner...
I dropped my vibrant from my and it was in the case.. it landed flat on the screen..glass did not break but AMOLED screen enploded.. I didnt know until i got to my car and tried to make a call. Crap...I dish out the $130.00 bucks ...bummed out about that..
oh man ...
Still great site and price. Thanks
Thanks I'll try cnn.cn. I see some decent reviews about them.
Is there a tutorial on how to replace this? Or would you have to get someone to do it?

I cracked my screen also. I found that site after I put in the claim. So I figured what the hell and started taking it apart, for next time.
It isn't easy! I'm pretty nerdy and good with my hands. Be very careful and very patient. There are small parts and wires that can very easily break.

Have you had any luck with this?I own an Orange San Francisco and cracked the amoled, unfortunately orange or any other site/company offers any repair AFAIK. I'm looking into repairing it myself, are amoled connectors compatible from one phone to another or are they manufacturer specific if you are aware of? I know this is a long shot but it doesn't hurt asking.

it would most likely have to be the same part
because the Galaxy S series are the only ones with that size AMOLED screen.
been there done that
i got a vibrant off of something awful for pretty cheap with a broken screen
first off you literally have to pry the screen off of the phone
and the bottom four buttons? there is a very thin ribbon cable that is glued to the screen
there are a few things youll need
1.really small screw driver (i got a glasses repair kit from the dollar store. worked great)
2.something to pry the screen off (used a screw driver from said kit)
3.balls. that ribbon cable is very very easy to break
first off you have to take apart the phone completely
i would even take off the one board that the screen connects to
then you need to pry off the screen very carefully
if your amold or whatever part is broken you're going to have to peel it off
it really sucks and makes you look like a bad 70s disco
after that it gets pretty simple
make sure you have something to hold the top and bottom part to the phone
mine isnt flush due to me being a jackass and not getting the right glue stuff to hold it down
after that it should work perfect like before
if anyone wants to trade me a new screen for the i9000 screen or buy me a screen (lol) i would make a very detailed video (not happy with the way the first attempt turned out)
post itt or pm me if you have any questions
So you are saying it should work, but what about the software part, won't there be any problems?

did you see (Minimum order): 2

I really need help. I got my phone apart w/ the board for speaker and camera off and the front speaker off. I did not remove the haptic feedback motor yet. how the hell do you actually pry the screen off. i just don't see a way.
will the international galaxy s screen work for vibrant they hace same shape compared to captivate. And I9000s screen is cheaper than T959 screen (based on ebay price)
So, I had my phone sitting on my work truck and I watched as it slid and flipped over and smacked the concrete. I have a good case and have dropped it before with no repercussions but this time it just shattered the screen. No big deal, hopped on Amazon and ordered a new one for about $24.
Got here today and I eagerly took my phone apart. Followed a video and had no troubles until I got to the step of actually taking out the screen. My evo had quite a bit of adhesive and being that the screen was already shattered, I had a hell of a time getting it out. Well, I seen the LCD was all bent and messed up too but I still put the new screen in and sure enough, half my screen doesn't work.
So...if I order a LCD, take it back apart and put it in along with the new screen everything should work fine again, correct? Also, do I need to order those glue strips or is there something else I can use to hold it all in place. Sorry if this seems stupid but I'm just a little irritated that I ordered one piece when I really needed another as well and I'm just at the point where I feel like buying a new one off Craigslist will be easier. Thanks in advance
Sometimes buying a new one can be better/easier but if you're capable of replacing it yourself why not lol. Just make sure you order the right part for your particular evo......

first, it's hell to get the digitizer (the part you actually touch) attached back on to the rest of the screen. it would be better and easier to buy the whole lcd/digitizer front for the phone.
BUT MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE RIGHT LCD SCREEN: theres two different kinds, narrow strip, and long strip.

Hello,
i have broken the amoled on my phone, its just the amoled. the touch and gorilla glass are just fine, i can answer call or make call sometime ( without seeing ).
i searched ebay and found digitalizer but amoled.
please tell me what i need and where can i get them. i like to have genuine Samsung's products.
looking forward to your immediate response.
Thanks
To my knowledge the digitizer and LCD are fused together meaning you have to replace both

i wish i could, the phone did't come with warranty
pretty sure the digitizer and lcd are a one piece, u might just have to get the lcd or else if ur confident open it up and have a look see if u can see any obvious problems
Is that meaning that NO warranty for the LCD??? curious about it
If you want to replace it yourself then you're going to need to buy a whole new screen unit. Even then it will be risky and fiddly replacing it. Unless you're an electrician you don't stand a chance replacing individual units. Replacing a digitizer on its own requires soldering anyway, a sure fire way to kill your phone if you don't know exactly what you are doing.
