Hi guys!
So, I have 3 problems with my new Xperia Arc smartphone :
1. When I turn on USB Tethering on phone, the internet disappears from my PC but I still can't use it on phone. When I try to use Browser it says that there is no internet connection (I did exactly everything what's mentioned on SE website).
BTW, with other phones (HTC Desire S, Desire HD, Sensation) everything worked perfectly.
2. When I turn on WiFi in my phone and try to link my google acc with Xperia Arc, for Market using, it starts loading, but every single time I get error, and it says that my access information is wrong or there's something wrong with settings (advices me to do the Factory Reset or use warranty fixing.
3. When I use default Browser with WiFi and I'm trying to download any apk app or game Browser crashes and I only can Force Close it
Any ideas or advices?
P.S. I don't have WiFi router ant home, so I need to use USB Tethering
P.P.S. Phone is rooted
P.P.P.S. Hope YOU will understand what I said here and Huge Apology for my bad english - Sorry
1. Your english is good.
2. Have you modified your phone in any way? Is it a standard rom, no scripts/build prop edits etc.
3. Any carrier issues re tethering?

Sorry but I don't know how
Ok. Simple things first, have you changed the connection settings on your pc to identify a 3g modem(arc)?
Regarding the market, make sure time&date are correct

didin't changed anything on pc but time and date was correct
Sorry, bit too much whisky last night...
first, check your internet connection on your pc/laptop and ensure it's using the arc as a 3g modem. If no then change settings, if yes then the next step should resolve it;
Your phone is rooted but the bootloader is locked, yes? Flash .42 firmware, using flashtool (If you use pc companion you may flash .58/.62/.69, which can't be rooted yet). Boot phone and retry

Hello guys!
I have been 'playing' around with my bro's xperia play phone, and it is (what I think) now bricked.
First of all it had android 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 on it & it's a R800i bought in Denmark.
Here's what I did:
1 - Downloaded & installed "sony pc companion".
2 - Plugged in the phone & got the drivers
3 - Downloaded & extracted "DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su"
4- Put the phone in USB debug thing & allow unknown sources
5 - Ran "DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su" from the file "runme.bat"
6 - It got rooted succesfully
7 - Downloaded and installed "CWM_Installer-v5.apk" [LINK: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840]
8 - Replaced the recovery.tar file with the one posted in #557 [LINK: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840&page=56]
The file is located in system/bin or something.
9 - Installed CWM through the application
10 - Downloaded the rom "XperiaPlay Ice Cream Pureness.ver.2.1" and placed the .zip into a folder (created myself) called ROM.
(DL: http://www.4shared.com/zip/QNPYzoYm/XperiaPlay_Ice_Cream_Purenessv.html
THREAD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822118)
11 - Rebooted into recovery mode through the application (CWM_Installer-v5.apk).
12 - Did this:
1.Factory reset in cwm
2.wipe cache partition
3.wipe dalvik cache
4.Format /system (in mounts and storage)
5.Format /cache
6.Format /Data
7.Install XperiaPlay Ice Cream Pureness.ver.1.zip
8.Reboot now and you are done !

12 - It rebooted and showed the samsung logo, but then just went black with a slight brightness..
Can't do anything with it now.. I tried removing the battery then placing it in again. The only thing that happened was that I could turn it on again, get a quick vibration with the samsung logo. But then the black screen again..
Hope anyone can help me fix this, as I really don't want to return the phone to my bro as bricked & ****.
ALSO: I'm new at this forum (& really anything to do with rooting/flashing/roms), so please if I have done anything wrong inform me! I would gladly post more info if you need it - but I don't know if I'm missing anything.
Your phone is not bricked. Try to find Sony Update Service software somewhere on the internet (Its no longer on the Sony website). You will promped to switch off your phone, hold the back key when you are ready to reinstall the stock software. Just follow the procedures properly and you should be fine.

Try using Sony PC Companion, if that does not work try to flash one of the R800i files from this link using the flash tool, again in the same method as I told you about the Sony Update Service.

THANKS A LOT !

For future references, how would you recommend me rooting this mobile? And installing the CWM thingy.
Hope you can link me to a guide or something - I seem only to find outdated/fake guides.
(The phone have android 2.3.3 now)

Oh, haha... I didn't realise that..
It's because I have a galaxy s3 myself. I tend to confuse the two.
Hello, I've searched for days and can't seem to find anyone with a similar problem to mine, so I'll make this thread.
A couple weeks ago I recieved Jelly Bean (4.1.1) on my HTC One X, and it looks like USB-devices should work, because under settings -> storage (I have norwegian language, so I don't know if it translates to storage in english, but I think it does) it has "USB-storage" at the bottom. I have connected a USB-stick (FAT32) to the phone via an OTG-cable (or so I am told it is, I'm just getting started with these things).
I read somewhere, probably here that some people got it working after they got Jelly Bean, so I'm wondering; why doesn't it work for me?
I rather not root the phone or install custom ROMs, but if it's the only option, I will consider it.
Sorry if I overlooked something obvious in my desperate search, please help me.
Pretty sure the only option is to root it mate.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong !!
But you need a way to mount the device, with either an app or kernel that supports it.
Such as StickMount, but you need root.
Goodluck.

Ok, so i had stock ICS, and upgrade to stock JB, never rooted, and OTG is working just fine! First you need cable with OTG suport or adapter (i use micro to female usb OTG adapter (see picture) so i can directly plug my usb (16 GB FAT32) without any cables), and second you need file manager with OTG support , i tray Astro file manager an he can find all files on usb stick! I have used several other file manager without luck, maybe now they work with updates or somethig, but im not sure!
Hi everyone, first post here, I only just discovered the whole rooting thing, despite normally being up on all this hacking and modding stuff.
I have a Sony Ericson Xperia Play R800i, Android Version Gingerbread 2.3.4, Build Number 4.0.2.A.0.42, no carrier.
After trying Flashtool and noting that ZergRush no longer works, I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240285&highlight=root
It seemed to work, installed Superuser, and Titanium worked for a few minutes until I decided to reboot my phone.
After that, Superuser doesn't seem to work at all. It fails to load when an app is asking for access, and it also fails to update when requestiong root access. Sometimes it will say 'fail', and other times it will simply stop working.
Anyone have any idea how to get it to work again? I've tried to regular stuff, clearing data, reinstalling the apps, unrooting and rerooting through the same app.
I'm stumped.
EDIT:
After a little playing around, I managed to get root access again. At least until I took out my USB cable.
As soon as I removed the cable, SuperUser started acting up and it's exactly as it was before.
Could this be an issue with my phone, or am I doing something wrong?
EDIT 2:
I've found that I can only retain root while my USB cable is plugged in and Debugging is enabled. Is there a way to ensure I have permanent root, seeing as I don't seem to be able to keep it?
Flash your xperia using 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware. I think your kernel is not rootable. Flash it to a rootable kernel before rooting. Ask Mr. Google where to download those firmwares
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240285
Hey guys,
I got it to stick! I just need to leave USB Debugging turned on, I think.
Eh, who knows, at least it's working.
@lucasmoney10 That's the same app I used, I think you even used the same link that I posted... Cheers anyway.
Thanks for the advice and ideas guys, turns out I'm just a bit new to this whole deal.

Hello. I would like to know if it's possible to repair my Xperia S, which has broken recovery and usb port. Problem is that now it has android without google services, so it's almost useless as adroid phone. USB port broke long time ago and I needed to flash new system. It didn't go well and I ended up without recovery and google services. I haven't used it about 2 years and don't really remember thigs about all this developement as I have xperia z with stock firmware. Don't know if it's possible but I somewhere heard about adb push via Wi-Fi. Also when I still were searching, on other models it was possible to install recovery from phone but not on Xperia S, maybe it's possible now? Haven't searched for new rooting software. Thank you for any help!

Some people suggested Rashr app for this. Check if it works for You. This app requires root though.
You can use the TWRP Manager to install recovery. This requires root.
